It's a very cute and intimate spot, it's also great for small groups. We really enjoyed the live band! The service was great considering how busy they were. The food and drinks were good. We had the gnocchi and the cheese steak egg roll. I would definitely go back again!

Our experience throwing our baby shower/ baby party at Prohibition was nothing less than exceptional. Both of us working in the hospitality industry most of our lives, we both have incredibly high standards of service and the Prohibition team not only met them but went above and beyond to make sure our day was special and went off without a hitch. Kayly the party manager was great to work with I emailed her a ton with my vision and wants and needs food wise etc and not only did she execute with her team, everything looked and tasted perfect. From the moment my guests walked in with the staff coat checking to every bartender interaction people felt warm and welcomed and it was so nice. I feel like this event space is a hidden GEM of the upper west side amazing for any event because they transformed the place just for us. I could not recommend this venue more highly if I tried and like I said we are New York Hospitality vets who are hard to please. Truly thank you so much for making our day as beautiful and seamless as it was and can't wait to host something else here. Alex & Josh

As the name suggests, this bar-restaurant is modeled after a 1920’s prohibition era speakeasy, with an actual speakeasy. So nice for a refreshing Sunday evening drink. Also got so see great love performance by musician Arthur Latin and Tommy. Nestled in the back is also a cozy speakeasy- didn’t get to go inside but seems really nice.

Great steak and truffle fries. The drink selection was also very nice. We loved the live music and cozy vibes, overall I definitely feel like reccomending this place!

We had an excellent evening and it is an address that we keep in mind for future visits to NY as well as a recommendation for our friends. The musicians were very talented creating a great ambience. The service was perfect thanks to the polite, smiling personnel who was regularly checking if all was good for us.

We came here specifically for jazz music but were disappointed.. It was super noisy and acoustic was not good. I'd say the singer was not great either. Food and drinks were good. Good place if you want to hangout as it's near the central park

Great place to eat AND enjoy live music. Food is okay, but the music is better. Would not come back for just the food :( Hostesses are all nice and friendly, servers were very stiff like it was everyone’s first time working at a restaurant. We got the NYC restaurant week, generous amount of salad, not homemade pasta and the shrimp was bit fishy :( Homemade brownie was cold and crunchy which was a big disappointment. The band was nice, they took requests and played for a long time before a break. Might go back for a drink and the music, but probably skip the food.

This place is a must go to. They not only have really good food, but great drinks and live music most nights! I would always walk by this place and always seems crowded and lively. You can hear the live music from the outside and we were so pleased when we finally were able to go! We went here for restaurant week, and sometimes I feel like restaurant week is not a good representation of a restaurant, but here the food was so good. I had some of the best salmon I've ever had. My favorite appetizer we tried was the spicy Cesar salad. It was one of those menus were you just want to order every appetizer. I was torn between the salmon and the vegetarian option, pesto gnocchi. I don't think you could go wrong. The staff was lovely, very attentive and personable. We were there on a nice day and sat outside on the patio near the sidewalk, but on a colder or rainy day the inside also has a fun feel to it. We will be back!

Everything from the super attentive service, delicious food and awesome live band was A++ . Which made for an unforgettable night out with my wife and our friends on Valentines day! It was our first time and we'll definitely be back!

We came during happy hour only to leave upset that we didn't get a happy hour menu. The egg roll starter was super tiny and $15. Then the burrata was $20 and only came with two pieces of bread. We got charged another $5 for extra toasted bread. I can see why this place is called prohibition. I plan to live up to its name and not come back. I should've skipped going there to begin with. There are way too many other places around with true happy hours.

Went here for the music on Saturday. Great band. Very crowded, but that's because it's a fun place with a good band and fun vibe. We sat at bar seats for first half hour and ordered our wine and beer. Just before band starts, they move the bar seats. So ok, we stand for the rest. Fun music made all worthwhile!

Came here on a Saturday night for the bar part so can't comment on the food. There's a $10 cover charge that you can pay by card. They had live music with a band. There are hooks under the bar you can hang your coat. Nice for a casual night out. Nice vibes, definitely an older crowd for sure though.

It's a cool place on the UWS and they have live cover bands, which are usually quite good. The main seating area can get a bit loud with music and patrons talking, the back speak easy space is much calmer and feels nice and cozy. The cocktails are great, plenty of food options and usually a good time. But if you want a quite and intimate conversation, this spot would be a bit too loud. Can sit at the bar or a table, service is very efficient and fast. Can always grab a few cocktails on your way to a party. :)

This is my favorite bar in New York. INCREDIBLE cocktail menu!! My favorite drink is the Bearcat. But also the Frozen Cosmo. Sooooo good!! We also had dinner. Great menu selections, and so much flavor. They had music, which was a fun vibe to hang out to. The staff were terrific. Special shout-out to Ryan, our fun server who took incredible care of us. We put in a special request with our reservation, which was granted and re-confirmed before we sat down. Loved the care that was provided to our group!

Definitely a great vibe! Everyone was so nice and friendly and the live band was great! The band had excellent energy and the whole room was dancing! I would absolutely go back!

We reached out to host our wedding after party at Prohibition and David was incredibly responsive and accommodating, despite it being a last-minute plan and a very busy Saturday night in the city. And it turned out to be EXACTLY what we needed -- the live music was an absolute blast for our guests to dance to and went until very late, and the bartenders were friendly and mixed amazing drinks. The speakeasy area in the back has very comfortable couches which were welcome after a night of dancing! Absolutely amazing space and vibe, can't wait to be back!

Service was exceptional! Waterboy filled our drinks extremely often, we never had empty glasses. We tried the burgers from the menu and they were very tasty! Not dry at all, but the mustard on the burger was a little overwhelming for me. We sat outside and the street was very quiet, a live singer provided lovely background melodies and even took requests. Would return, just expect the items on the menu to be a little more pricey for their portion sizes

ABSOLUTELY PERFECT FOR A PRIVATE EVENT! We had to switch our daughter's one-year-old birthday party and baby naming ceremony indoors at truly the last minute due to bad weather. Michael, the owner, got back to my email within minutes. From then on, he was responsive, involved, reassuring, helpful, creative...and super funny, too! Kayly was also incredible at every turn (including always checking up on me and bringing me coffee during the event...thanks, Kayly)! Michael was able to help us create a brunch/lunch buffet that pleased both the kids and adults attending. There were also amazing cookies for dessert. Everyone raved about the food. Even more raved about were the drinks...quickly and expertly made by the friendly and involved bartending staff! Along with the bar selection, there was wonderful soda, tea, and coffee, including lattes, which was appreciated! The area looked incredible on its own but with decorations we brought in, it was perfect. There was ample space for all guests to sit and eat, and lots of room for the kids to roam and do the little crafts we set up. The music was on theme and enhanced the vibes. The staff even let us hang around after the event to watch a basketball game with family while the kids kept playing, which was a blast for all and much appreciated. Also, having the stage and microphone set up and ready to go made it so easy to have the baby naming ceremony and speeches so everyone could hear well. We didn't have that for our first daughter's ceremony and it made a huge difference on a special day. Don't hesitate to book an event here. We keep hearing from everyone who came that it was so much fun and so special! The place really made the day easy to plan and the staff's helpful, cheerful, lovely personalities shone through all day long. Michael is the best to work with and you can tell how much he cares and wants to give you a fair price while still dazzling guests. We'll certainly be back again ASAP!

Found this place on Yelp and came here for drinks with the boys. Had an amazing time. The bartender Jess was very welcoming and friendly. She made really good recommendations and great cocktails. The speakeasy in the back is the place to be!

We went to Prohibition for the first time last night to see a band we like. We made a reservation for 9 so we could eat and have a few drinks before the band went on at 10. We were seated at a high top with a great view of the stage so couldn't be happier there. We started with the cheese steak egg rolls, the tuna poke bites and the bacon dish. All were great. Loved that the egg roll was not greasy and the filling was well seasoned. The poke came on delicious crisps that stayed crunchy until you put them in your mouth. The bacon is a memorable dish, not only is the bacon perfectly cooked, crisp on the outside with just the right chew, but the mustard sauce is the perfect complement, would give the restaurant 5 stars for this dish alone! The drink list has so much to choose from, that we kept ordering different things and were o. Our third round and eating our entrees when the band went on. I had the pork shank which is incredible, crisp skin on the outside with tender meat throughout. The gravy underneath the perfect dip for every bite. I think special mention is warranted about hospitality and the details that the team at Prohibition looks after. David, the manager checked in with us after each round to ensure we were enjoying things. The staff also made sure that the crowd at the bar did not stand in the way of the tables to block our view of the show. If you like live music, good cocktails and good food I can't recommend this place more highly!!! And oh yeah, don't sleep on the chocolate cake either, a sweet end to a great evening!

Always a fantastic experience at Prohibition on the UWS. The food is phenomenal, Chef Alberto and his team create the most amazing appetizers and the main dishes especially the pork shank are out of this world delicious. The manager David and his team are supper attentive and the live music adds to the awesome experience everytime. PS the cocktails are outrageously delicious. Old Sport is a favorite!!!

Prohibition is a must-go, neighborhood gem! We had brunch there last Sunday, and the food is delicious. I loved the Tuna Tartare and the gnocchi. My son loved his Sea Bass. Everything is fresh and delish! The service is great; the staff is friendly and so attentive. The Bloody Marys are spicy and beautifully garnished. They have mocktails, too. The bar scene is lively and the live music is a rare treat these days, especially in this neighborhood. GREAT place!

I threw a 50th birthday party for my husband last Saturday night. We booked the speakeasy room in the back and had the most amazing party! The bartenders, Gabe and Cam were incredible, turning out delicious cocktails so quickly. My guests couldn't stop talking about how great the food was. The lamb chops were a stand out - soooo good! Honestly, I wouldn't hesitate to throw another party at Prohibition. The staff, the food, the drinks and the ease of booking made it the best party ever!!

It was a great find on a random hangout night. Live music, reasonably priced drinks with friendly service made an impromptu evening fun.

If I lived in New York, I would make routine evening visits to Prohibition a staple of my life... Just before Thanksgiving, I had the pleasure of dining with a friend under the care of Prohibition's manager, Dylan, who was very knowledgeable of his offerings. Our server, Emma was delightfully insightful regarding recommendations for food and beverage... I love a good espresso martini, and the Cat's Meow was exactly what I was looking for. We shared the Mac n cheese pops and the salmon was phenomenal for a main course. I only wish I could eat more--good thing I already have a return trip to NYC planned for January! I will definitely return. I follow Prohibition's instagram and I can see that the entertainment that books evenings there provides a great variety and promises to be a vibe for any taste. We had the pleasure of enjoying Kacie Sky's music that evening--she was wonderful. Really love this place. I know you will, too.

The La ultima palabra was fantastic. The owner came up and started chatting with us, gave us his card, super personable. Not your average NYC experience!

I was really anxious that night . He suggested I get out the house and get some fresh air, grab a bite to eat or something . So we decided to drive around the neighborhood and see what was in the area . I was reminded of how terrible the service at a neighboring business was and walked in Prohibition with skepticism . We walked in on a night with live music , the gentleman with the guitar already started his set , but that saxophone player got to me, he was jammin ! Very talented indeed - I decided to sit at the bar and I quickly ordered a Manhattan (my go to when I'm having a troubled moment) he ordered his usual Don julio and a splash of juice . My drink was GREAT . Listen, alot of places just DONT KNOW HOW to make a Manhattan or old fashioned . We were delighted with our drinks and decided to order some food . I ordered these tuna poke starters , DELISH! I wanted to order another portion but decided against it . We also ordered some risotto (yummy) and he ordered salmon . He said the salmon was alittle salty but my risotto was divine & I will go back there to order this to go on any day . Our bartenders were friendly and attentive; the music was a vibe and food and drinks were on point ! I can finally give an establishment a 5 star rating in the city ! I feel somewhat accomplished.

I've been hearing that this place has some good cocktails so I wanted to give it a try. They were closed for a whole during the pandemic but had opened again a few months ago. It's a pretty spacious spot and they do a good job with their uniforms to make it seem like you are eating/dining/drinking during the prohibition era. A few of us had arrived promptly at 4:30 pm, right when they opened. There was no one else in the restaurant. There are a few bar style tables (taller than the average in the restaurant) right when you walk in to the right. We asked the gentleman helping us if we could have the las table by the wall. He responded that he normally has a regular come in that loves to sit there. Okay. We took the middle table then, although he seemed he really wanted us to sit at the table right next to the door. We ordered some bearcat cocktails, along with some small bites. The cocktails were super tasty. The food was good, too. We had some more people joined our party and we began to run out of room at our table. One friend was sitting on the end of the table and this seemed to irk the same gentleman that didn't want us to sit at the last table near the wall. Oh, and it's been almost 2 hours now and his "regular" was not sitting there. Why not let us have the table then? He continuously told my friend that he needs to move his chair out of the way. He kindly responded that he would when people are sat at the tables near us. No one was ever sat at the smaller tables so we didn't move the chair. This guy really looked annoyed now. For what reason? We were eating, drinking and spending money? I wish he would have chilled out more. You could feel his annoyance emanating into the air. Overall this place is good, but perhaps expect to get a glare if you try and pick the "wrong" table to sit at. I do want to give this place another try. Everyone else was very nice. Maybe he was having a bad day. Oh, and thank you to the woman who would constantly fill up our water. Her service, along with our server, was amazing.

Michael and David and the entire crew helped me organize a birthday party event. Food was great, band was amazing and a great night overall. 5 stars !

I hosted my 30th birthday at Prohibition in the Speakeasy room and it was PERFECT!!! I had the most incredible experience with their team - every member of the staff was beyond attentive and detail-oriented. The planning process was super smooth and the day-of the team was beyond helpful. I truly cannot say enough nice things about them - they were awesome!! Shoutout to Kayly + team :) I pre-ordered passed appetizers and the food was incredible - the sliders were a huge hit with my friends! I would highly recommend this venue for private parties - they know what they are doing and made it so easy! All of my guests had an incredible time and it is a party we will never forget. Thank you!!!

I had an event in the backroom of this space in April 2024 for around 50 people. I was absolutely blown away by the service that was provided. Kayly was fantastic to work with. She checked in with me multiple times before the event, made suggestions to make the event better, and kept me updated as the event went on. The space was perfect. There is a private bar in the back with a door that can shut to the rest of the bar. There was a live band playing, which we were able to play through the speakers and adjust the volume as needed. The actual event was excellent. The passed appetizers were delicious and a hit among the guests, especially the ice cream bars! The bartenders were fabulous, friendly, and made excellent drinks. Even when the time of the event was over, the staff was courteous and let us stay in the space longer and enjoy the live music. The price was also reasonable compared to other private spaces on the UWS. I would highly recommend and will certainly be back! Thank you Kayly and all of the staff at Prohibition!

Best place ever!!! Amazing food, amazing music and the most amazing and friendly staff in NYC.

Honestly, I was extremely impressed by Prohibition. We ordered a few dishes to share because we were in a large group. I was not disappointed on any level. It has a great welcoming atmosphere that is cozy and inviting but is also very fun. It is great place for a date night or a couple of friend because they offer live music. You can tell they put a lot of thought into the decor and the acoustics. I loved all the drinks! But my favorite was the giggle water and the smash and grab. The food was by far the most impressive. The lamb lollipops was perfectly cooked and I could've ate it all night. The lobster risotto was exceptional and they were all great for sharing so we can taste more off the menu! I really loved the halibut as well because the fish was perfectly cooked and flaky! The live music was wonderful because it was not overwhelming while having dinner and it was great to see a bar still incorporate that feel. I really miss more restaurants offering live music! I would definite come back every time I am in New York!

My friend just moved to the UWS and we were looking for some local restaurant spots near her and found Prohibition. When we got there we were given the option to sit outside or inside and chose inside because of the performers (although the speakers were a bit loud)! I got the Giggle Water which was really pretty and tasty. I got the Atlantic Salmon and she got the Pesto Gnocchi and they were both delicious. We also really enjoyed the Tuna Poke Crisp appetizer - highly recommend! During our meal, we got to see Izzie and Michael Hunter perform live - they were so good! We'll definitely be back again!

We came on a fun, Saturday night. A live band was playing in the main area while we sat in the back of the bar in their "speakeasy" area. It's not a speakeasy, just a back area where you could talk a little easier without the music blasting. I got the Giggle water which was a refreshing and not too strong (could have been stronger in my opinion). The bar was definitely slated to an older crowd - if you grew up in the late 80s to early 90s, this place is your spot. The live music was a nostalgia trip of indie, rock, and alternative songs. However the music was loud! Even in the back room, it was pretty loud. I had to shout to talk to my friends. Overall, nice place, nice aesthetic, slated towards millennials, but not a great place to have a conversation (music was too loud).

Great service with a smile from the moment we walked through the door. Came all the way from BK to have dinner with my coworker from NJ. Kept it kinda simple. Ordered off the Restaurant Week menu...Caesar salad, cheeseburger & truffle fries & flourless chocolate cake. Thoroughly enjoyed everything! Couple glasses of Prosecco & great convo, live music. Overall great atmosphere. Love the pictures all over. Also, I forget how the CPW area can feel so serene in this City.

A great spot to set up with a group of friends for a while. They have a nice selection of small plates and sides including Parmesan truffle fries and chicken skewers. The hostess the night I came here was very friendly and attentive. I usually think live bands at restaurants are more a nuisance than added ambiance, but the band that played this particular night was a welcome addition.

USED to be the best spot ever hands down but that was the old regime...in with the new management ("promotions") that's been running the show for some time now and compared to what it USED to be, there's clearly a reason why all of their amazing staff has left! Even the musicians say that the vibe is not the same Agreed, the place is still beautiful but for all that think currently it is WOW, naturally, it is not possible for you to know what you missed out on The drinks are not the same, neither is the food. As with everything in business, it starts from the top and trickles down ...You can put the nicest lipstick on a pig

"The best night of my life" is what my son said. We hosted an engagement party for 100people, using both the speakeasy and the main room. From the start, at the planning stage, the Prohibition team was incredibly responsive and collaborative with all things related to space, band, song list, food... Michael helped us choose the perfect band,and Kayly, along the service team that evening, were attentive hosts. The drinks and food exceeded our expectations. The band and the vibe were absolutely perfect and exactly what the bride and groom had in mind. I would highly recommend using Prohibition if you are looking for a cool, understated venue that will provide an atmosphere conducive to fun and incredible, memorable party.

Incredible venue. Food, service, vibe - all truly superior. We had an unbelievable private event there last evening and could not have ever asked for more!!!! Our guests were blown away. The entire team running this restaurant is amazing.

I don't know how you top this experience if you're looking for a fun time with friends with live music and great food & drinks. We ordered the lobster truffle risotto and the prohibition cheeseburger and both were bomb (or bussin' as my kids say). I asked for the Bootlegger Old Fashioned but subbed out the whiskey for reposado tequila and it was great (side note: I love whiskey but it doesn't love me). The music was great, played songs everyone knows and loves, sounded tight. The service was incredible - very attentive. The whole experience was top notch. Highly recommend.

Food was very average and lukewarm. had sea bass and some of the asparagus still chilled from fridge. husband had shrimp pasta dish and shrimp tasted old. his also not hot. we mentioned it to wait staff and manager was kind enough to comp our meals.

Came here recently with old friends I hadn't seen in many years and friends of theirs in NYC for the first time. We had a great experience, wonderful food and ambience. Service was excellent as was the live music. Highly recommend.

We had my husband's 50th birthday party at Prohibition last week - I must say everything was perfect. The bar area was well-lit, spacious and gorgeous. Michael - the owner - could not have been more helpful and responsive during the planning process. The staff - bartenders/waiters/waitresses - were wonderful and friendly all night. The food was great. I cannot more highly recommend Prohibition for a party. The best party we have ever thrown.

Such an awesome spot. Staff is amazing. I always appreciate good service and each staff member went above and beyond to take fabulous care of us. Live music was also awesome! I would come every week if I lived there!

My husband & I visited 4/6/23. We had resv@8pm which we made prior to arriving in NYC. We received a text ensuring our attendance. We arrived at 7:55. We ordered drinks & dinner. The booth seating where we were seated isn't ideal & has 1 guest with their back completely to the stage. After we finished dinner I asked if I could move over to one of the unoccupied tables beside ours so that I could sit next to my husband but also enjoy a view of the live music. I was told that it was ok but they emphasized that when the next guests arrived (the tables on both sides were resv) I would need to move back over. Absolutely. Completely understandable. None of the "resv" parties for said tables ever showed. Then after ordering multiple cocktails we were told we needed to give up our table. Keep in mind, tables closer to the stage had been occupied by a group of younger guys only drinking a few beers. We had ordered expensive meals & cocktails. It was bizarre to say the least. Horrible customer service. Way too many places to choose from in NYC. Never again. Unless you are a regular or groupie of the OVERRATED band.

Incredible bar! Had so much fun, the espresso martinis are an absolute must here. David was an absolute gem, gave us the best service. Live music was incredible, will be coming back!!
