Prost! West Seattle Review - West Seattle - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Tucked into a sleepy stretch of California Ave is Prost!—a Bavarian-style bar that’s remarkably subdued despite the exclamation. It may not be the spot to have a rager, but it’s easy to wile away an hour or two while sipping some of their malty European drafts, particularly during Oktoberfest. If the weather’s nice, grab a bretzel (nicely toasted and buttery on the outside with a pillowy soft middle) and grab a seat on the back patio. Or just watch whatever game is playing and pretend you’re at a pub in Leavenworth, except without all the annoying tourists." - Gabe Guarente

We can't believe we have never been here before! It is incredibly cozy, the food was delicious, and the bartender was an absolute sweetheart! Despite being all alone and extremely busy, he was still attentive and took the time to explain German beer, which I admittedly knew very little about. Needless to say, we left very impressed! Having never noticed this place before, my husband was kicking himself. We'll be back! Thanks, Brendan! 😋

Google
We waited 45 minutes for our food and the food was not even that good. It wasn’t even crowded at all and our food tasted stale. They dropped my food on the ground though the woman apologized and said she would re make it. It took 20 minutes to remake half of the order I got and by the end I thought they had forgotten about it. I forgive her about dropping the food but the fact that we had to wait such a long time for just half of it to get here is not okay. I’m younger than 21 so I wasn’t at the bar I was in the restaurant part with my family for dinner. The people there seemed nice and for people going to the bar I think you’ll like it. But for someone who’s going there to go to the restaurant part I highly don’t recommend it.

Google
What can I say, Prost! never disappoints. Excellent beer, excellent staff, excellent vibe. I also really like the back patio with some cover and heaters. It’s a wonderful spot. I’m happy my friends live a block away so it’s easy to visit when I’m in the area.

Google
I just really love everything about this beer hall. It’s cozy like a little pub in Europe, dark and moody but always friendly atmosphere. The Bitsburger Pils is my favorite. And the food is perfect. Pretzels? Brats? Mustard? Sauerkraut? Yum!

Google
“Where everybody knows your name,” Prost offers a warm and friendly atmosphere that caters to the community. German beer reigns supreme in this small, but big personality, watering hole — so don’t expect your everyday basic beers! Due to the amazing staff, drinks, food, service, and atmosphere, we have become regulars. Thanks, PROST!

Google
Great German beer selection & the German potato salad was good! The staff were also very friendly and welcoming.

Google
Great atmosphere when you first walki in! The decore is vibrant and gives off a warm feeling! The duck NACHOS were delicious and not short of duck in any means! We also got the duck entree.

Google
Cozy place with a great selection of German beers and delicious bites to go with them. They make a solid pretzel that's perfect when I'm quaffing a few half-liters of lager. Oktoberfest is a great time to visit, but if you can get a seat at the bar when there's a game on TV, anytime can be a good time.

Yelp
If you're in West Seattle Prost is a must stop in for proper pint and a pretzel with beer cheese!

John F.

Yelp
Best place to chill and have a drink and catch a game!! Good place to find German beers where you can't get anywhere in West Seattle

Matt F.

Yelp
Had great drinks, good conversations with the bartender, and a great atmosphere! I definitely will be back whenever I'm in West Seattle.

Yelp
Great place to bring your little ones lol it's true my cuz and I lived around the corner and it was always with screaming babies leave em in the car Thank you Everyone else

Mr. Rainbow C.

Yelp
Unfortunately like the rest of basic Seattle, for being a "German" pub it does not hold up to the culture. They won't even play sound for a US Womens World cup game. Then they ask why Womens soccer players get payed less. Sadly nobody here cares. Had to drive up to George and Dragon to listen to a game. This is just another basic bar with german beer.
google avatar

Yelp
Do not got here if you took the bus. they just don't care when you want to close out. They bring you the check whenever they want.l!! They dgaf what you got going on!!!!!!! Good beer though.

Yelp
Come here for a great taste of Germany! They serve food, beer and cocktails. The place has a lot of seating, from chairs and tables , to high chairs and a couple outside seating as well. I won't be able to review their food, cause my group only had drinks here. -- And for the drinks, they have good choices of German beer on tap, my husband's cousin who is a regular have tried all of them and loves it! I ordered a cocktail not on the menu, "The Penicllin", and the bartender - Brian whipped it up effortlessly for the first time and it was amazing!!! Service was great! Brian was so friendly, and accommodating. They have a punch card system , if you live local, it's an amazing deal and a great excuse to drink lol. Every time you buy a beer, they punch your card, and every card you finish you get a cool prize!

Yelp
This is quickly becoming our go to German bar. Wish it was closer to home, but love the beer options they have and the feel of a small hangout. Pros? Typically some seats available even during Covid Friendly servers Knowledgeable about german style beers Simple but tasty food All german style beers... which are some of our favorite Nice patio area with some hot (and some not so hot) heaters Fun decorations to observe inside Tips? Try some of the bottle options... they're worth it! The sweet mustard that comes with the pretzel (and the pretzel) are *chefs kiss*

Yelp
Stop 1 in my Seattle trip. I came here for some beer after my flight with a friend who lived close by. This place is what I imagine a German Pub to look like in Germany. Beer: 5 Stars***** To be honest, I don't remember the names of the beer that I tried because they were all in German. I do remember Oktoberfest! All 3 beers that I tried were all very good. If I lived in the area, I could definitely see myself being a regular here. Food: 4 Stars **** Pretzel was delicious and it went well with the two types of mustard that was provided. I came here after 10 so the kitchen was closed, so I couldn't Try anything else except the pretzel. Service: 5 stars***** They're so friendly here! I was offered a free beer and he gave us a tasting of one of his favorite beers because I wasn't sure which one I should order for my next round.

Yelp
Was hoping this would be our new neighborhood spot, but, come on, entitled mothers with their screaming babies? They don't even step outside, just force you to listen to what they've chosen to listen to 24/7. I guess this is the culture that the owners want, but when I want a beer and a pretzel, I don't want to go to a nursery.

Yelp
Absolutely terrible service. Literally, we get in and the server asks for our id's, normal. She took forever to check mine, I know I look young but I don't look that young. She even held it under the light and made a comment about it not working. She acted like it was fake. Finally, she takes a look at my friends. We weren't ready to order yet, so she moved on. The bartender then comes to ask us what we want and then checks our id's as well. This is the first time since I've moved to West Seattle that this has happened. This is actually the first time in my life that I have ever been id'd twice. My friend ordered the beet salad and I the pretzel. The bartender came back to check that my friend has ordered the beet salad and not cucumber. The cucumber salad came out. My friend told them her order was wrong and they said they would make a new one. Typically, when a place gets your order wrong they take it away or tell you its comped. Since no one took it away, she figured she'd just eat it. The beet salad came and my friend said it was good. The pretzel was okay. We ask for the bill and they had charged her for both salads. When she told the server about it, the sever literally said, "the bartender came to check the salad order" with this tone that was very reminiscent of 'you're wrong.' Then she added, "well you ate it." My friend didn't bother fighting the bill because it honestly wasn't worth it. But never have I felt such disrespect or terrible customer service in my life. This establishment will never receive my or any of my friends' patronage. To be honest, the attitude of the server leads me to believe they probably don't care anyways.
google avatar

Yelp
If you're not drinking beer, don't bother. Food is sub-par at best. Ordered the pretzel with 3 cheeses and "pork". What we got was a clearly microwaved conglomeration of Costco frozen pretzel, ham from a local grocery, and greasy cheese slices. The "marinated beet" salad came with an unpleasant side of fruit flies! To top it off the service was barely passable. Server couldn't give any more info or recommendations beyond what we could read on the menu. Pick yourself up a decent 6-pack, some pretzels and stone ground mustard at the store and save yourself the trip.

Yelp
This place used to be my place to go in West Seattle. After a year or so since my last visit I decided to go back, and I was very disappointed. The staff was not friendly, but whatever the beer was great. The two stars come from the food... I can take some unfriendly staff, but not bad food. We ordered the cheese and meat plate, and don't get me wrong I have been to the other locations in Greenwood, Roosevelt, and downtown, so I know what cheese and meat platter should look like. What I got was literally the same cheese platter you get from QFC plus some apple slices and mustard. In addition, my husband ordered the bratwurst plate, this one was clearly microwaved, where the inside was super hot. Definitely this place is not holding up the quality as the other 3 locations.

Steph J.

Yelp
Beer: good Service: average Came here on a beautiful Saturday afternoon and they would not let us sit on the patio because it was "closed". Huge bummer since there are few nice days in Seattle? I'd recommend calling ahead as that was the only reason we stopped here. Maybe next time!
google avatar

Gary W.

Yelp
I'm kind of a commuter now and there was a few days where I needed to wait in West Seattle for a ride and camped out at Prost! It's really a taste of Germany in Seattle that has a following of locals that make this place very inviting. The bartenders treat you as a regular even when your not and the bar food is a taste of Germany and I really enjoyed everything I've ordered. The beer comes in an appropriate mug to match the beer that's kind of cool. If you're tired of the hipster IPA scene, here's you a place to go European.

Yelp
Prost has a really cool ambiance. On the smaller size for a bar but has lots of beer german options i tried 2 and they are very good. They have a stamp card for prizes as well. Fun idea to get people to come back! I also tried their plate of pate with bread slices and apple. Their pate is very good and HUGE chunk! Pretzel is nice and toasty kinda on the smaller size and their beer cup can be gigantic depending how much you order
google avatar

Yelp
With at least 5" of snow on the ground, you: 1) shovel the steps and the sidewalk 2) take the dogs to the off leash area to play 3) find a place within walking distance for a beer and maybe food. For us that would be the new Prost! in West Seattle. They normally open at 3pm on weekdays. Not today. Today they opened early. Smart. Very smart for a new business. It was warm inside and very busy. There was one guy working and he is easily the best "server" I've seen in a very long time. Very cool under pressure. We had two pretzels, a plate of sausage and two Franziskaners. All very tasty and satisfying. When we left, he was in the weeds...with a smile on his face, a wave and a thank you. Ja gut!
google avatar

Yelp
Home base. Prost! is SO cozy and we love the staff. They are all so welcoming and friendly. Go for a couple of beers and leave having made new friends. We have met so many lovely people while bellied-up at the bar. On tap, you can expect to find a wide range of rotating traditional German beers served up in a variety of sizes to whet your whistle. If you join the Stein Club, you can receive rewards for getting your card punched each time you drink a half liter of beer... as if we needed an incentive. We've already gotten Stein Club t-shirts, patches and my husband just received his Prost! West Seattle hat. Prost! also hosts a bunch of community events. We've never been the type to participate, but joined in for the Beer Olympics and had more fun that we should have. Too much fun. The food menu has a good selection of traditional German snacks. Oddly enough, we surprisingly haven't eaten here enough that I could make any solid recommendations. Snacks are good so you can drink more beer ;) If you haven't been yet, just GO already!

Yelp
Das is Goode! I have been to their Lake Union location Feierabend and love taking friends there that want to do something a little different. Prost West is like it's baby brother in comparison but when you really look at it, this location has a lot of pro's that are overlooked. The smaller size leads to more socializing with new friends, hey this is how the set up was when I went to Germany and lets face it after a the large stein full of bier everyone's a lot more interesting. My only concern was that the food selection wasn't as good, but what they do have (mostly brawts) is really really good. This is one of those places that any neighborhood would be lucky to have. A perfectly authentic old world European pub where the biers are strong and the friends are plenty.

Yelp
Alright Yelpers...I have been waiting 5 months to write this review. Prost! was the first bar I frequented after moving to West Seattle in Feb...and its still my favorite. The beers are great and all served in their proper glassware. A 0.5L is around $5 and a 1L is usually about $9.50. They even have 2L "Boots" available. They require a credit card in case you break it ($50) - and the house rule is you cannot set the boot down once your party has started drinking it. The food is also good if you are looking for a quick bite. I recommend the pork loin or Tyler's Reuben...all less than $10 They have a couple of outdoor tables in the front (dog friendly) and 2 picnic-like tables in the back. Be sure to join the Stein Club - your first punch card gets you a t-shirt. After 5, you get your own plaque on the wall. Big shout out to the great Bartenders: Kristi, Dan, Tom, Kate, Tyler, etc!

Yelp
Last year around the same time I visited West Seattle and fell in love with this place. Coming back and stopping by again this year because it was so memorable for me. Great vibes, outstanding beer, food pairs well with the beer. It's the best, I love to stop by any time I can.
google avatar

Juliana H.

Yelp
Prost, a small German beer and food bar brings all of the comforts of beer and bratwurst one can desire. Pretzels, sauerkraut, beets, cucumber salad, and sandwiches round out a small but tasty food menu while the drink menu features many beers on tap, more in cans, wine and a full bar. Great for a cold one on a warm summer day.
google avatar

Linh T.

Yelp
Love Prost!!! We went there when they were just opened. They got decent selection of beers , my fave is franziskaner, so smooth and carries fruity flavor. I also like Lager. They have a full bar so you don't have to limit yourself to just beer. We always order a side or two of landjaeger with hot mustard. They always have some games on so I gave me a vibe of sport bar, though this place is too small for one. It's always crowded, so sometimes you have to stand around until someone leaves. Staff is nice.
google avatar

Anthony S.

Yelp
Its a cool concept to have a Teutonic brew pub in micro brew central. Nice change of pace. But their selection of German beers is somewhat tired - stuff thats been around a long time. Need to get some depth in the list. How about a Berliner Weiss! Food - hard to get excited about sausage and more sausage. Again, nothing special - just go to a yuppie grocery store and you have this places beer and grub.
google avatar

Glenn P.

Yelp
We tried Prost! this afternoon for lunch. Great selection of beers, and plenty of food options (Salads / Sandwiches) - it's a bar people! There was one girl running the place. We were right in at 1pm - and in less than 20 minutes, there were 15 people in the bar! They really could use another hand when it gets this busy! This is why I took away one star. They appear to be one of a four location German Pub/Bar chain around Seattle. I look forward to trying the other locations.
google avatar

Jason F.

Yelp
Oh Prost! I stopped in here again recently, it's been a while since I last visited. It's really a great place. They immediately get your order for one of many many nice European beers. The folks at the bar are always nice and the food is fast and good. This visit I noticed that it's a preferred place to watch a Seattle Sounders soccer game, but not without some controversy with the local football crowd. Be well my friend Prost, be well.

Richard D.

Yelp
Great place, fun beers. Service can get slow if it's busy but not too bad. The bartenders are knowledgeable about the beers so use them to help you, as most you've never heard of. The food is fun and authentic. Oh, and the night I went had 3x as many women as men and the place was packed. A superb ratio.
google avatar

Rachel M.

Yelp
I'm never in a rush when I'm here, so the slow service doesn't bother me... it's pretty charming. The vibe is super chill and I really like that. They have a ton of beers to choose from and a punch card! They don't have a full kitchen, but do little bites like Braunschweiger, pretzels, and sausages. Yummy snacks to have with beer and easy to share with friends. Minus one star because they leave *a lot* of foam on the beer and that's really annoying. I've had pours where only like 3/4 of the glass is beer. :( Cute spot in the neighborhood to drink a few with your pals- perfect!
google avatar

Natalie G.

Yelp
It's ok.. Their menu isn't very big and most of the choices are sausage on a roll or sausage on a plate with sauerkraut. The pretzel was the highlight of my husband's meal. But $4? Ouch The negative is that they don't offer fries. Curry ketchup and fries are the best! Big selection of German beers. Slow service since it seemed there was only 2 people working one behind the bar and one serving tables. All and all I won't be back. Long drive for so so food.

Jordan L.

Yelp
We just moved to West Seattle Island and came across this great little German beer tap room and sausage-a-torium. Beers were fresh and well poured and the food really good as well. Nice front porch to dine on during COVID. Chandler was super welcoming. We will be back as regulars.

Mikle D.

Yelp
Great bar with great beer. It's local bar but it's clean and owners do their best to treat customers well. This place mostly acts as bar but some German food options are available.
google avatar

Erin R.

Yelp
This is my favorite place in West Settle hands down! Great beer, great staff, I even like the food even though it doesn't have a full kitchen like the one near REI. I love the meet and cheese plate, the bretzel sandwich, and the beef sandwich. I come here at least once a week!
google avatar

Eric H.

Yelp
Nice little German bar with a great selection of beers and drinks. Also good food and fun atmosphere. I would recommend the bar to anyone as you do not have to speak or understand German to drink there. The bartender was very nice and service was great!

Joe M.

Yelp
Just an update, I know this place is open post curve flattening because I can hear the groups of people who stand around a car they parked in the neighborhood talking loudly late at night for an hour. People, when you're done at the bar, get in your car and leave. You may say call the police. Yeah right. I tried it once, they don't show. And for those wondering, don't blame me for living near this environment if I don't like it. I lived here before all this development, zoning changes, and selfish, entitled people having their first beer
google avatar

Leah S.

Yelp
I think this is a great neighborhood pub with a very German flare! They have nice outdoor seating out back and in front. They are kid and dog (outside) friendly! They have a good selection of German beers (not my favorite type of beer hence the 4 stars). They have a nice food selection and good service. We were there during Oktoberfest and it was very festive! We will plan to take our family and friends when they are craving german beer or food!
google avatar

J G.

Yelp
Went here on a nice sunny Seattle day. Sat out front at one of the tables to get a few beers and food. Got the bitburger which is always great as well as a currywurst and cucumber salad. The currywurst was some sort of a cold Weiss wurst covered in curry ketchup. Fairly unappetizing and untraditional however I ate all of it. The cucumber salad however was absolutely phenomenal!!! It tasted just like German cucumber salad. Great bar inside, good service, clean taps and glasses. They also have large cans outside filled with cigarette butts next to the tables, next time I will most likely eat inside but I will definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
I didn't love my first experience here, mostly because of our bartender. My friend and I were so excited to try Prost! We came in towards the end of the night, so I get that she (the bartender) was probably tired, fair enough, but she was really unfriendly from the moment we sat down. Our drinks (beer) were good (lots of German beer options) and the space is small but cute. I would definitely try it out one more time since I want to like and support the bars in our neighborhood.
google avatar

Stacey B.

Yelp
Great selection of German beers in a great environment. The giant pretzel and beer cheese were great.
google avatar

Michael K.

Yelp
Come here for an immaculate pour - I still love the taste of German / Czech style beers, and here you can get Lagers and Pilsners on tap that taste right. I have largely resisted the Seattle push towards ales, so this place is a favorite of mine, though I do enjoy the English style stuff as well. Food is pretty good, bar fare, and keeps in the spirit of the beer. Simple snacks like the Landjaeger with mustard are particularly good.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
Pure German bar feel. Very authentic. Good German beer you won't see anywhere else. Great mix of clientele.
google avatar

Yuri R.

Yelp
This by far is my favorite place to have a beer because the beer is beyond comparison. For my friends that like the dark, heavy ales and me, who won't drink beer that isn't golden, this is "FN" fantastic! You know you're not crazy when you take friends and without solicitation always tell you the beer is awesome. The kraut, sausage and mustard selections and great taste are the bait to lure you into a world where you'll need AA to bail you out. It's great, it's great, it's great. For those of you guys who have girlfriends that have the "I don't drink beer because of the taste," this place will make them take back the comment. How do I know? My girlfriend WAS one of those people. Also, if you have friends from out of town, do the boot. Four guys can knock that out in under five minutes. I know that from experience.

Florian H.

Yelp
Good beer selection ! Food was so so but not really tasty. We sat on the terrace & despite plenty of personnel we had to order at the bar & get take out the drinks ourselves = no service !

Yelp
My mom and I were cruising West Seattle for a new place to eat, so we called up her friend for the name of the German pub she liked: Prost! When we arrived it was PACKED! I think it was due to a game on TV, ao we stood in back near the wall and waited. It was kind of sad, some people were all by themselves at these really big tables, and no one would even look at us for fear they might be obligated to let us sit with them. I guess you can't expect single guys at bars to actually be gentlemen. We finally got a table (one of the lone men was leaving), and some beers on the way! I ordered the Warsteiner Dunkel and my mom a Honig Dropf mixed drink. Mmmmm tasty beer! For whatever reason the front and back doors were wide open even though it was cold outside and causing a frightful draft. Needless to say, I wanted something warm to eat to counter the chill, so I got the daily special - a pork stew. There were lots of meaty pork chunks, potatoes, some veggies in a yummy broth that added great flavor but didn't overpower the flavors of the other ingredients. My mom's bratwurst was delicious as well, what little I got to try. :) Overall I think this is a delightful little German pub. I like that it's smaller, just remember to not go on a game night if you want to sit down! The staff were all friendly, even if a little frazzled by the large numbers of people. Sure, they don't have a huge selection, but I think it's more about creating a little pocket of community that is reminiscent of what a small town German pub might be like.

Yelp
Home for the holidays. I had a lovely dinner with a best friend at West City Kitchen next door. We decided to drop in for an evening holiday cheer. Our welcome was from a cold bitter soul....a female telling us she was just about to end her shift and the vodka + soda bevie we requested was too fancy for the bar. At the store the vodka is $19.98 a bottle...no doubt she just didn't want our joyful spirits in the bar ~ no other politeful suggestions were offered. Hoho! No merry here!
google avatar

Lanny K.

Yelp
PROST! IT'S FAMILY-FRIENDLY! a bar that allows children!? Heck yes! This just made nannying a LOT more fun! IT'S MODERATELY GERMAN! little-known fact: sandwiches just so happen to be ranked in my top three favorite foods! LESSER-KNOWN FACT: I FREAKING LOVE SAUERKRAUT! AND MUSTARD! AND PRETZELS! Their beers are FANTASTIC! I had a ridiculously great time with my bosses and their children - drinking beers, eating sausages (and sauerkraut) and pretzels... with mustard! PROST! YEAH! !!!!!!!
google avatar

Becky W.

Yelp
Small, dark, cozy pub with German food & beers with a crowd of soccer fans staring at the TV to cheer on the Sounders --Sweet! This West Seattle bar was packed - and rightly so - it's a great spot to eat and drink and take in a game. Great medium-dark brews and a sampler plate of apples, meats, cheese and pickles. And the Braunschwager was tasty and rich - served with soft bread - and way more than anyone should ever consume in one sitting. Those Germans - they put the H in Heavy. Prost is the Most.
google avatar

Vega S.

Yelp
This is a lovely, low key German pub in West Seattle. The beer selection is really great. Food is somewhere between a 3 and 3.5 stars TBH. Also a great place to watch world cup matches. There are two televisions and beer garden style picnic benches.

Yelp
Prost! is German inspired and has a menu full of fantastic German beer. Unfortunately, when I went there, the menu didn't quite match the actual selection. Granted, the place had only been open a few days, so I'll cut them some slack on that. The so-called traditional German cuisine, however, was unforgivably poor. I'm a big fan of German food, which I'd call the comfort food of Europe, and nothing beats a big, perfectly done Curry Wurst, served in a Berlin dive at three in the morning. Crispy and snappy on the outside, juicy and delicious on the inside, topped with curry ketchup and steak fries. I've traveled all over Germany and eaten everywhere from truck stops and in-the-boonies family restaurants to four star hotels. The food at Prost! is downright sad by comparison to anything, I've had in Germany. Take aforementioned Curry Wurst, substitute the fries for two slices of store-bought, pre-sliced bread. Straight from the bag. And the sausage? Good quality, but soggy to the point, where I could not even finish eating it. It had never seen a pan, just hot water. In other words: Disgusting. My friend ordered something else, but I'll spare you the details on that, except to say that we're in the same ball park. Which reminds me: why is there a flat-screen tv over the bar, showing American football games? How is that traditionally German? I'm giving them two stars for the decor (very cozy, apart from the tv), the service (not too fast, but nice and friendly) and the quality of what beer they did have. All in all: Not authentic, bad food, good beer and not completely without charm. But there are better places to go in West Seattle.

Yelp
Finally made it to the new Prost this friday. It was pretty packed but the service was still spot on. Props. Nice ambience. I just wish they had spatzle on the menu....
