Prost! is German inspired and has a menu full of fantastic German beer. Unfortunately, when I went there, the menu didn't quite match the actual selection. Granted, the place had only been open a few days, so I'll cut them some slack on that.
The so-called traditional German cuisine, however, was unforgivably poor.
I'm a big fan of German food, which I'd call the comfort food of Europe, and nothing beats a big, perfectly done Curry Wurst, served in a Berlin dive at three in the morning. Crispy and snappy on the outside, juicy and delicious on the inside, topped with curry ketchup and steak fries. I've traveled all over Germany and eaten everywhere from truck stops and in-the-boonies family restaurants to four star hotels. The food at Prost! is downright sad by comparison to anything, I've had in Germany.
Take aforementioned Curry Wurst, substitute the fries for two slices of store-bought, pre-sliced bread. Straight from the bag. And the sausage? Good quality, but soggy to the point, where I could not even finish eating it. It had never seen a pan, just hot water. In other words: Disgusting.
My friend ordered something else, but I'll spare you the details on that, except to say that we're in the same ball park.
Which reminds me: why is there a flat-screen tv over the bar, showing American football games? How is that traditionally German?
I'm giving them two stars for the decor (very cozy, apart from the tv), the service (not too fast, but nice and friendly) and the quality of what beer they did have. All in all: Not authentic, bad food, good beer and not completely without charm. But there are better places to go in West Seattle.
