Downtown’s coal‑fired oven turns out blistered pies with local touches—the clam pizza is a favorite. Profiled by Pizza Today and praised by travelers, it offers a distinct, smoky counterpoint to the city’s wood and grilled traditions.

A very nice atmosphere of service and great food. One of the few pizzerias that is solely dedicated to serving pizzas. The dough is handmade and tossed. What I like about their pizzas is that they don't overload it with cheese and put the right amount on it to coincide with the other toppings on it. Delicious pizza. Plan to go again.

Google
Cool atmosphere. Nice server staff, good selection of appetizers and the pizzas are huge 👍🏼 The bruschetta was fantastic. The pizza was pretty good, the crust didn’t have inch flavor but overall it was cooked nicely and fast!

Google
Pretty good place with good pizza however the center slice was pretty floppy and wet. The edge pieces were far better. Overall a nice place though and got seating quickly.

Google
Pizza. Great equalizer. Rich people love pizza. Poor people love pizza. This place has great pizza. Perfect amount of coal fired without having a burnt flavor. Great to order in bulk for The Office nearby. quick staff. Only complaint is that the time I went and dined in there was someone kept making chicken noises and one of the people I was to lunch with kept eating my pizza instead of their own. It was just that good.

Google
Hands down THE best pizza I have had! From the delicious crust to their sauce and toppings, all are spot on.

Google
A WOW lunch! Can't stop thinking about food. The BEST pizza ever! Meatball & a pepperoni. Crust - toppings were awesome! Wings were not the norm but beyond great, super flavors! Young server was terrific with recommendations. The local beer was even outstanding.

I wanted to share a wonderful experience I had coordinating a large group dinner while in town for USA gymnastics! Sadie was on top of the coordination when I contacted the restaurant online about a party of 30. I was able to pre order and made everything good smoothly! From one organized person to another Sadie was a dream!!! You have an amazing team with her in charge! Food was excellent-everyone loved pizza wings and salads! Plus beer:)

Google
Still one of my favorite pizza places in Providence. Had two recent trips. Fantastic both times. Had a pepperoni and their standard meat lovers most recently. Previously had them make me my own version of a meat lovers, (sausage, pepperoni and bacon) and its delicious. Great Wings and cold beer. Doesn't get much better than this. Place is fantastic. Great service and an extremely busy place at times. 8.5 of 10 atleast.

Yelp
I have never had a bad meal here...the pizzas are delicious but my favorite are their signature chicken wings....they are big, nicely marinated and grilled to perfection. This last time I had a glass of their Sauvignon Blanc and it was delicious and smooth. A great place with great food and great service.

Yelp
Ok burnt really bland soggy pizza; after asking about it, they replaced it after seeing the bottom was blackened as well; Parm dip also really bland and not really dip-able, but loved the fresh (bland) flatbread! Best thing was the pickles! Really stuffy, humid, hot restaurant on a breezy day. Would have loved to have sat outside instead. Really helpful server!

Yelp
My toughest challenge as a native Rhode Islander is finding a great pizza spot. PVD Coal Fire has a rustic and upscale charm to it, making them a going-out spot rather than a "order out and eat the whole box on the couch in sweats" type restaurant to me. I mean that in a good way because everyone needs a go-to spot for date nights. This downtown Providence location is perfect before a PPAC show and for fueling your cheesy cravings. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE coal-fired pizza - definitely take your preferences into account if you're not a charred crust fan. We've tried a good amount of their specialty pizzas, like the Taco, Meat Lovers, BBQ Chicken, the Conrad and Four Cheese. I would rather eat those five pizzas in one sitting than answer which one was my favorite. If I HAD to choose... ... It would be the Taco pizza! I strongly gravitate towards fun and out-of-the-box options, making this specialty a winner in my books. If a beef chili base, Monterey Jack cheese, cumin sour cream, Frito's and scallion combo doesn't scare you, it might become your favorite too. As far as appetizers go, the bruschetta pomodoro was awesome and the house pesto packed tons of flavor. The coal-fired wings were okay. Unfortunately, the charred chicken tasted too dry to me. However, I did like the roasted onions sprinkled on top. Overall, I recommend bookmarking PVD Coal Fire for your next meal.

Yelp
I was wandering around near Rusty and thought that in Providence I could find two of my favorite things, shellfish and pizza being as hell. This is both a Port city and has a big Italian community. So I went on yelp and put an "clam pizza," and was surprised that it actually was a category. This restaurant was the first to come up and it was only half a mile from where I was so we wandered over. Everything was fantastic. The pizza was great! Crispy tasty great ingredients. Arugula salad was terrific also. The vibe is old lofty like and the service was spot on. We got lucky and I suggest you do the same.

Yelp
The pizza is out of this world good. I had the shrimp pizza on one side and the clam on the other. They were both equally amazing. Go!!

Yelp
You have to eat here! First of all, the service is first-rate. We were greeted and seated right away. Our server really knew both the drink and food menus, paced the drink, appetizers, and entrees perfectly, and really spoiled us. The dining space is clean and modern, with cool respect paid to the downtown beaux arts building location, and a clear view into the coal-fired pizza oven. But the food puts this place over the top! The garden salad was fresh, with just the right amount of dressing. The pizzas were the best we've had. Hubby had the pepperoni and I had the Rocket. The pepperoni was curled up and spicy, with just the right amount of cheese, and a sauce that your Nonna would make. The arugula on the rocket was so fresh and peppery, I didn't need red peppers, with same delicious sauce. Thank you for a wonderful evening!

Yelp
The pizza here was really good, I would definitely come back. Parking in the area is difficult.

Yelp
Ok so I am a Neapolitan pizza guy, NYC style. But this wasn't bad at all. Nice flavor and very tasty crust. Staff was very friendly., sat at the bar and enjoyed a great convo with the bar tender who originally hailed from NY. Atmospheric was inviting, place was very bright! No issue reading the menu for this guy! Good solid meal. Had half clams and half meatlovers. Maybe a little too much potato on the clam side but overall a nice pizza. Be advised you Neo peeps. It's not cut in triangles like we are used to. Ha ha ha Two thumbs up here!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Happy to have walked into this little gem of a pizza place. The menu had a lot of great options to choose from. Staff was friendly and service was good (but we were sad our waitress forgot to tell us about the Thanksgiving dinner seasonal pizza!). Food reviews: -picked vegetables: too spicy! Maybe that's what Chicago style means? -beet & goat cheese salad: excellent!! -clam pizza: also excellent! Crust wasn't too thin and it wasn't too clammy. Wish we would have known you could do half and half because we would have loved to try another (maybe add that to the menu for future?) Also had two tasty drinks that I forget the names of. Would recommend for a good pizza stop in downtown Providence!

Yelp
My rating is 8.8 on the Pizza!!!! Definitely delicious pizza worth every bit of the wait! Great Great atmosphere, very loud when packed, which it was packed on a Thursday night, line out the door and its fairly large place. Great service from staff, Great bartenders and speed of food was Fast!! I recommend trying the apps too we ate a bunch all were good!
google avatar

Greg G.

Yelp
The wings are great here! Always served piping hot. I brought some pizza "experts" here tonight and they loved the pies. We shared the Conrad, Meatball, 4 Cheese and Margherita pizzas. My favorites are the Conrad and 4C. Service was great. We sat at the bar tonight. NCAA games on the tvs, do we had great conversations and great fun watching the games. The place is a bit loud. Maybe this location is better with a bigger crowd, while the North Kingstown location is better for a cozy date night! Don't forget to finish with the cannoli, mousse or butterscotch pudding!

Yelp
Pizza was delicious; we got a pepperoni pizza and The Conrad Pizza which had onions, sausage, roasted peppers, rosemary, mozzarella and pecorino.
google avatar

Elena D.

Yelp
Omg.. best clam pizza of my life. A perfect blend of flavors and who doesn't love potatoes on pizza! Honorable mention to the meatball pizza which was also very tasty. Service was quick from a take out order standpoint and ambiance appeared cosy. 10/10 recommend

Yelp
Delicious food, cool vibes, spacious place, fun for groups, great area to walk around.

Yelp
The pizza tasted delicious as everything tasted fresh. My holiday cocktail was a perfect spin for Valentine's Day. Ambiance was a good typical pizza joint that's family friendly. If you're lucky enough to get seats in front of the pizza cooks - it is a nice little 'show' One star down: As for service, we went on a Saturday (day after valentine's) and it was already packed at 12:30pm when they had opened at 12pm. My bf and I got lucky for two seats at the bar. The bartender/server was friendly and got us our drinks right away. But the downside of how busy it was, we waited an hour to finally get our pizza. We were on a time crunch as we had other plans as well. As soon as the pizza came, we asked for the check at the same time - we ate it quickly since we were super hungry and paid so we can leave as soon as we could. I would go again, but trying to avoid the busy days.

Yelp
Never in my life would I have thought I needed to ask if there was sauce on a pizza. That's what I get for assuming. I got a pizza with no sauce. Otherwise known as the Conrad. The description sounded delightful, "onions, sausage, roasted peppers, rosemary, mozzarella and pecorino." Other pizzas had tomato listed under the toppings, but apparently that is the code for sauce. All of the individual components were good. The crust was perfect, both chewy and crispy. But it didn't come together. If you got a bite, and there were plenty, without the sausage or peppers, it was bland city. I should have just stuck with the tried and true pepperoni. This was my first meal in Providence, and it was a letdown. I believe that overall the restaurant probably deserves more than two stars but I can only really judge by the bummer of a pizza I got

Yelp
Fresh baked pizza. Thin crust. Some charring from the coal fired oven. If that piques your interesting, well here's a place you'd like. All pizzas are one size - 16", priced between $17-$28. As you'd expect, the lower price band has pizzas styles like cheese or margherita, while the higher band has lots of meats, and more interestingly seafood. If you want some variety, you can split the pizza style half and half. Pick 2 varieties, and you'll be charged whatever the more expensive style is. I mix-and-matched my way to the Clam Pizza ($22 / full pizza) and Pesto Shrimp ($22 / full pizza). Both were savory, briny, salty, vibrant, and aromatic. The clam pizza had copious amounts of garlic and rosemary, while the pesto shrimp had cherry tomatoes to brighten up the pesto.

Yelp
We ordered a pepperoni pizza which did not disappoint. There was plenty of pepperonis and the sauce was delicious. I especially liked the coal-fired char. I also, ordered the caprese salad which was also delicious. The only thing I would have changed is the amount of arugula (it was too much).

Yelp
Food and atmosphere are average, but the brunette waitress there on Wednesdays is so rude I'll never go back. Ignored me the whole time and then made horrible comments. Insane to spend your money there when there are places with staff that actually like their job. If you hate people maybe don't work in service.

Yelp
Came here for a graduation party and was extremely impressed with the service, the food, and the ambiance. We took up about 4 tables around the entrance of the dining room and we had a couple little kiddos and ample "moving around" as the various parties chatted with one another. A couple different staff members came around and checked in to see if we needed more drinks and/or wanted to order anything. I felt that it was the exact appropriate amount of "checking-in". The barbeque pizza, the wings, the mozzarella sticks (with the sauce), the Aperol-spritz-like drinks, cannoli's, and anything/everything else we tried were scrumptious. A few of us espresso martini shots for a night cap and everyone left fat and happy. Thank you so much!

Yelp
The pizza at this place is out of this world ordering ahead on a Friday night in a pinch was well worth it easy pick up friendly staff

Yelp
This place was absolutely popping on a Saturday night. Every table was full, and this is a big place! My partner and I managed to score the last two seats at the bar, from which we observed that tables became available relatively quickly. If you come on a busy night, my guess is you won't have to wait too long to be seated. With cold glasses of locally brewed craft beer in hand, we studied the pizza menu before deciding on a classic pepperoni pie. It didn't take long for our beautiful order to arrive, an oblong disc with square cuts, affording everyone their choice of edge-to-middle ratio. The pizza was great! I liked the crispy crust and the cuppy pepperoni. Robust sauce and quality mozz. I would have loved to try more topping combinations but that will have to wait for next time.

Yelp
The pizza here was great, as was the service. I didn't personally have the wings, but my friends said they were great.

Yelp
Amen, Thank you Jesus. Providence Coal Pizza Is FIRE. Best damn pizza in Rhode Island baby. My second time here in a long time. Our first business trip back in 2021 was awesome here. I love the Clam pizza in which i recommend. It wont cost you too much either. Meatball Pizza is another i recommend. WIth huge slices and portions, make sure you are hungry here. Nice staff and owners. Clam pizzas are fresh and not dried out. You wont be disappointed.

Yelp
Went here on a Wednesday for their half-price special of the month pizza. It was delicious! However, I would never pay full price for one of their pizzas because they're pretty small. I gave my mom two slices and ate the rest with ease. The September special is their Vineyard pizza that normally cost $25. It has grapes, roasted red onions, pancetta, fontina cheese and other ingredients. The dough was cooked perfectly with a good amount of chew without being too floppy. And the toppings were great. The bites with the grapes and red onions along with the fontina cheese were my favorite. The cheese was melted flawlessly. There was barely any pancetta on the pizza, but I expect that nowadays with pizza places barely putting any meat on their pies. Chill vibe inside, good service.

Yelp
Solid pizza, thin crust, in a classic American pizza joint atmosphere. Do note that there's no lunch specials or slices, but whole pizzas are very affordable and service is great. Of course, then you have to decide what to do with the leftovers from a whole pizza...

Yelp
Visited on 7/14/24 at approx. 5:30 PM, a party of 4. - First, the service was excellent. No complaints there :) -Food - ordered two pizzas. One containing meat and the other was a mozzarella/basil. The meat pizza was dripping with grease which caused the crust underneath to be saturated and soft. We could barely pick up the pieces of pizza without it hanging down and toppings spilling off. We couldn't really eat it because of how greasy the crust was. The mozzarella/basil pizza was fine. We didn't order appetizers or dessert. Free refills on the soda/iced tea. - Atmosphere - loud and boisterous from patrons at 5:30 PM. Kitchen is visible from the dining area. - Location - good location, some street parking. There is a paid parking lot immediately across the street. Very easy walk from the convention center and areas of downtown. - Disability access - easy access for cane/walker - no steps to enter. The front door would be able to accommodate a regular sized wheelchair but not a bariatric wheelchair from what I could tell. There are open floor tables with chairs, and raised top tables, and booths. I did not visit the restroom while at the restaurant.

Yelp
We stopped in on a Wednesday night and the place was packed! I'm assuming there was a show or something going on. Luckily we were able to be seated at the pizza counter and I'm glad we were! Was perfect for the two of us and had a front row seat of all the pizza being made. Pizza was very good and so were the drinks! We will definitely be back but next time make reservations so we can get a table.

Yelp
The service was great and food was excellent, the atmosphere is great. Kind of a sports bar atmosphere

Yelp
Enjoyed the pizza and the salad with arugula, roasted beets and cheese. Used delivery so can't comment on facility or staff

Yelp
This was a great RI experience. Great ambiance and service was great. It was nice to meet the server who spent time in my home town! The food/ pizza was OK! I would go back, but I was expecting better!

Ron H.

Yelp
These pizzas are so skimpy! You can eat three slices, and you are still hungry. The pizzas are just dough and sauce with practically no cheese. The photos of the pizzas on the website and menu are very misleading. Paying almost $30 for each pizza and still being hungry is not good. How can a pizza restaurant make a pizza with just red sauce, thin dough, and a little sprinkle of cheese? They should close up shop if this is how they intend to treat their customers. We had to get takeout on our way home because we were still hungry after eating there and paying over $100 for the bill and tip (not the waiter's fault). We will never eat there again.

Yelp
Really great pizza. It was on our list to try this place and it was really worth it. The house made sausage is really good and the roasted peppers and onions were very tasty.

Yelp
The Providence Coil Fried Pizza is located downtown, went to get dinner with high hope, very disappointed, this place needs to improve in every area,we ordered pizzas, chicken dips, none of them are good... Their restroom is unbearably dirty and the toilet flash and door knob are broken as well, I don't know what I paid for and gave tips for what's?? We will never go again and don't recommend anyone to try this Pizza place. After paid high paid parking and tips its not worth it to have dinner from other state...

Yelp
Big oven oven with smiling employees.. Ambiance is inviting ..taste is one of the best I have had .

Yelp
First time in. Was a destination before Riverdance. Excellent pizza! I was surprised how good it was. Great firm crispy underside, with a delicate light crust overall. Hit all the buttons. Delish!

Yelp
I stopped here for dinner while in my travels in Rhode Island, and just wanted to give my take on it. As a lover of pizza, I was willing to give it a shot when I saw this was close to my hotel where I was staying. I went inside and the server behind the bar, Dylon, gave me a warm greeting. He gave me a recommendation to try, and I went with his idea, The Conrad. The pizza was cooked very well, it had a nice crisp to the crust. And all the ingredients were portioned thoroughly. It reminded me a lot of New York style pizza. I was definitely happy with my experience when I was there. If you're looking for pizza around Providence, give this place a shot.

Yelp
This is our second visit to PCFP and we continue to be very happy with it. Our server was friendly and fast, the arugula salad was fantastic and big enough to share. We had the four cheese pizza and the meat lovers pizza shared between 3 hungry travelers and we ate it all. My only complaint was Open Table said there was only high top tables available at our requested time. Looked like there were plenty of other seats available but I didn't ask to change.

Yelp
Great food great service . Food is always fresh and hot . Never had it ever had a bad meal here. Also the blackberry manhattan is outstanding 10/10. Valet parking available !!

Yelp
Wow, wow, wow...simply the best, better than all the rest (in the area). Providence Coal Fired Pizza is up there with the likes of New Haven quality pizza. We tried a selection of their pies and my favorite was The Conrad with onions, sausage, roasted peppers, rosemary, mozzarella and pecorino. This pizza should be called the flavor bomb and I can't wait to go back to enjoy it again. The margarita and pepperoni pizza were equally exceptional. The atmosphere is casual and expansive with plenty of seating and room. Our server was very helpful and knowledgeable regarding offerings. If you're in the Providence area it would be a sin to miss out on this sinfully delicious pizza! If you're not in the area, it is definitely worth the drive..did someone say road trip.
google avatar

Ray E.

Yelp
Took my team here for drinks, wings and pizza and everyone had a really good time. Everyone was happy with the food and the service was good as well. The wings looked really good but I thought they were just okay. The place is about pizza and that was really good. I wasn't a big fan but others really enjoyed the clam and pesto shrimp pizzas.
google avatar

Joseph D.

Yelp
Went here the other day on a Friday with a party of 30. The food came out on time and the wait staff was excellent. A young female and an older gentlemen waited on both are tables and they were extremely polite and kind. (Considering we had 12 kids under 7) It got a little chaotic but the food was excellent and like I said the staff was great.

Piero V.

Yelp
Unfortunately it's a pretty bad pizza. I had a plain cheese pizza and it was tasteless, a bit cold and rough. Paid my tab and left most of it. The bartender's vibe was also a bit off.
google avatar

Robert K.

Yelp
Wife and I spent the weekend in Providence and wanted a pizza badly. This hit the spot. We both commented to each other at the same time on how much we loved the crust! What drove us here was the Yelp reviews and pics of the wings.
google avatar

Allison L.

Yelp
Great local pizza. Bar like setting but also good space for families. Service was on point and got two pies for family of 4.
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
Great pizza, great beer. Great location right downtown. Well there's tons of seating indoors, unfortunately, they don't have any outdoors seating. We often get pizzas to go.
google avatar

Celeste L.

Yelp
So many great items on the menu and pizza is so good. Salads, drinks, wings were all a hit.

Suzette D.

Yelp
Horrendous! Pizza was burnt. I called to complain. Said they'd send me a gift card and never did.
google avatar

Jordan M.

Yelp
I'd heard about this spot for a while so my expectations were high. They didn't disappoint but also didn't blow me away. The sauce is pretty average but those four cheeses are amazing (each and every one of 'em). Super rich and delicious. It's a bit on the expensive side (at least from ordering on door dash). I'd go again and get this and probably try the margherita as well.
