I had a lovely dinner here on a Friday night with some colleagues, and can't believe I hadn't been to Provision before now. I've driven by the Ironworks so many times, but didn't realize there was such an amazing restaurant tucked around the back. Provision is on the second floor, up a flight of metal stairs, but they do have an elevator nearby as well.
We were seated at a great table, next to the window, and, while we were warned by a number of other colleagues that the noise level can make conversation challenging at times, we found the noise level was not a problem at all even though they were definitely full. The atmosphere is modern and upscale.
The cocktails all looked amazing. I decided on the Sage Advice, and it was excellent. They are using high quality spirits and other ingredients in even the more moderately priced selections in the $15 range. They do have pricier cocktails as well along with some incredibly high-end wines, but, again have some really nice options in the $15/glass range.
We had a basket of assorted bread to start off along with salads. I really enjoyed the beet salad. The flavors of all the ingredients went so well together and I loved that they included both red and golden beets. I had the scallops for my entree and it was delicious. I never would have thought to pair gnocchi and scallops, but the textures and flavors went really nicely together. The raisins added a touch of sweetness and really worked with the dish - again, I never would have thought to add raisins to scallops and gnocchi, but it was all so good together.
Service was excellent, and courses were timed nicely so that we had time to enjoy our cocktails and wine along with each bite of food, and conversation. We weren't rushed at all. Our server was also a bartender here and knew the menus very well.
Yes, this is a restaurant with a price range that makes it a special treat outing, but it is worth it! And...there are plenty of excellent choices on the menu that are comparable in price to other nice places around town. If you're looking to not completely ruin your budget, move past the beverage and food menu items that make you gasp a bit and find the numerous more moderately priced options. Plus, this is a Cunningham restaurant so if you have a VIP card it basically ends up being 10% off eventually.
Parking is behind the building as is the entrance to Provision. If you're headed west on 86th, turn left at the light just past Keystone. The entrance is well marked.
