Authentic Chamorro cuisine served family-style in a lively outdoor setting
"The South Korean horror takes place at the onset of a zombie outbreak, and follows a father and daughter who must journey to the safe zone or risk becoming snacks for the undead. Train to Busan also happens to be the best zombie film ever, and will leave you a snotty, tear-stained emotional wreck. If you want to balance those gut-wrenching emotions with highly positive ones, order from Prubechu. The Guamanian restaurant in the Mission makes some phenomenal dry-fried wings that are served with a tangy, lemony ’fina-denne sauce, and you should get them with the tinaktak, coconut braised beef with handmade egg noodles." - lani conway
"The Guamanian restaurant in the Mission serves sweet rolls, beef empanadas, handmade egg noodles and coconut beef, and other excellent Chamorro dishes, the indigenous foods of Guam and the Marianas Islands. But a visit here isn't complete without the ko’ko wings. They’re tender and juicy, spiced with a secret house blend, and taste even better dipped in their tangy lemon fina’denne' sauce. Expect to dream about these at least once a quarter." - lani conway, julia chen 1, patrick wong
"Prubechu is one of the few SF restaurants that can make a parking lot feel like a party. The Chamorro spot in the Mission (the only one in the city) transformed a plot of asphalt into a bumping patio with picnic-style seating, sangria, and live music. Focus on the shareable dishes, like crisp-edged ko’ko’ wings with tangy fina’denne’ and coconut-braised beef so good we’d enjoy it even in a stalled BART car. And keep an eye on their Instagram for the next whole pig roast, a full-blown production that revolves around crackly pork with more live entertainment." - julia chen 1, lani conway, patrick wong
"Prubechu is San Francisco’s island party. Twinkle lights, big-leaf plants, colorful tablecloths, and loud reggae music could encourage you to quit your day job to become a full-time island hopper. This always-packed outdoor-only Mission spot is also the only Guamanian restaurant in town—and one that serves knockout Chamorro dishes packed with flavors this city has never tasted before at a restaurant. You’ll have fall-off-the-bone tender BBQ pork ribs coated in sweet, sticky sauce, egg noodles with coconut braised beef that are the comfort equivalent of Bob Ross’s voice, and the plumpest chicken wings served with sides of tangy lemon-vinegar fina’denne’ sauce. Add the occasional pig roast, and fizzy sake highballs and punch-colored wine-based refreshers, and you have a spot that’s a go-to for birthdays, “come as you are” dinners, and nights when you just want to gobble down phenomenal food and soak in positive energy." - julia chen 1, lani conway, patrick wong, ricky rodriguez
"The order: Bunelos aga banana donuts Even after an absolutely knockout Guamanian meal of fried chicken wings and BBQ at Prubechu in the Mission, make sure no one is “too full” for dessert. Their banana donuts are the Keanu of sweets—a.k.a. perfection. The fluffy, steamy, cloud-like bites are dusted with powdered sugar and come with a side of ridiculously smooth roasted banana whipped cream." - julia chen 1, lani conway, ricky rodriguez, patrick wong
