20 Los Angeles Area Bars Supporting Joshua Tree | Eater

"It has been said that everything, including time, moves a little slower in the desert. It’s fitting, then, that this Mission Viejo gastropub takes its time with its Barrel-Aged Caro Kahn: It’s made with Westward Whiskey, amaro, and cherry liquor, then aged for a month. The wait adds complexity to the drink, with extra notes of oak and vanilla. Pair it with a burger or fish and chips for a proper pub meal." - Vox Creative

Dog friendly and great food! Stopped here for a late lunch and really enjoyed my spare rib grilled cheese with the potato leak soup. Our server was super friendly to both us and our dog.

Google
This is such a great spot and it offers every dining experience you could want with seating options on the patio, bar, high tops, or a more formal area for dinner. Under new ownership they have really stepped up their service standards! Very friendly and engaging staff. Great beer selection and great menu overall! We were very disappointed to find out that the lobster roll had been removed, which was our go to lunch and probably the best lobster roll in OC. Hope they add this back on soon! We know we aren’t the only regulars who will be missing this meal.

Google
Pretty good place. We went with a somewhat big party of 10 and our specific server seemed to be in a bit of a mood when it came to taking drink and food orders and wasn't particularly attentive or interested in our questions about the food, but the food was decent and one of the other guys working there was super nice when helping clean up. Maybe they cater more to regulars as the bar seemed lively. Food was pretty good and drinks were strong though!

Google
We've been to this restaurant several times and enjoyed the food very much. But there seems to be an inconsistency is some dishes. The first time we went we enjoyed a wonderful bread pudding but the next time we ordered it it was not even close to the original. Today we went for brunch. I was looking forward to the lobster eggs Benedict. The first time I had it the hollandais was some of the best ever. Today it had so much cayenne it was almost inedible. So disappointed!

Google
Pub Thirty Two is very close to my house and a great bar to stop in for a drink after work or on the weekends. They have a full bar, whiskey tasting, and multiple beers on draft or tap. From all the times I have been it's a hybrid of younger adults as well as older couples and families that attend so good for many occasions. My favorite go to food option is the short rib & mash with a couple prankster beers on tap. One recommendation I have is to ask about an item before you order if if you are unsure about it. I ordered "Portobello Fries" thinking they were fries and got fried mushrooms and was "SOL" according to my waiter. That was my only bad experience in a handful of good experiences. I went in again recently for lunch and dinner. Lobster Bisque with a grilled cheese hits different on a rainy day for lunch, and their short rib n mash is great for dinner. Pics attached.

Google
What a great place! First of all it is dog friendly!!!! The patio outside is super nice. The menu is great, I had the pork belly and scallops, it was very tasty. I had the Putting with short ribs, the egg on top just make it amazing. Couldn’t finish, lots o food. The beer was cold and refreshing. Will come back and will bring my wife. I want to try the breakfast and the beef. Jen was very nice and knowledgeable!

Google
First time here and very impressed with the bar service! We ordered a few things. Fish and chips are good, avocado bruschetta was yummy too. Hubby and I disagreed on sausage rolls, I thought they were too "doughy" (like undercooked dough) but he liked them! Otherwise, the food would be 5 stars.

Google
Service was great even on a busy night! Live music was also a plus. Overall great spot!

Yelp
So we got the kid's Mac and Cheese, the Pub Burger, and the Shepherd's Pie. Everything was delicious! Really top notch food with a genuine Irish pub feel. My only negative is that they brought out my husband and daughter's food and completely forgot to put my order in, so I had to wait an extra 15 minutes or so while they ate. They were really apologetic though so all good. Definitely come here if you have kids too. Kids eat free after 4 pm Thursdays and Sundays!

Yelp
A great gastropub serving some good pub fare, British and otherwise. I absolutely loved my bangers & mash even if again the dish has a wild ratio of potatoes to meat in it. I could've done with more sausage, but that's everywhere that serves the dish so I can't fault this joint for the inequity. I also had a chance to try the wings, the short rib poutine, and the house fries. They were all great. I'll have to come back to try some more of the menu. I especially was eying the lobster roll as I'm a complete sucker for a good lobster roll. The service was great. Our primary server was super diligent and helpful. And everyone that pitched in was as professional as could be. The space was great as was needed for our company get together. I don't know when I'll be back, but I won't be the least disappointed if the next function is held here.

Yelp
I got a lobster roll to go. The price is reasonable but the brioche was stale and the lobster roll had huge chunks of celery that I found unnecessary. The side Caesar was a good amount but they don't disclose that bacon is included, which was frustrating as I don't eat pork. It was decent but I wouldn't order again.

Yelp
We have been going many years to Pub 32 and it never disappoints! Best Fries in town, I can honestly say I have never had a bad meal! I can't wait to go again! We've held a birthday party on the patio which was great! Can't recommend enough Pub32! Everyone is so friendly but honestly you can't beat the quality food, some of our favorites fish and chips, the burger, and the rib eye = phenomenal!

Yelp
First time visiting - I've always seen how busy it gets. I figured it's a great spot! Servers were nice and helpful and very efficient! There were two outdoor areas. One at back with a fire pit but it's also smoking section. Then another at front with heaters above. Then there's the lounge/bar area and the restaurant section at the back. We were in the restaurant so you can't see the musician or bar but you can hear. Dinner was delicious. Portions are good, I barely got through half of the chicken club. We thought $23 for the veggie-only pasta was a bit steep. Went over to sit at the bar tables to check out musician after dinner and he was really good. Servers very attentive. I'll definitely be back!

Mark K.

Yelp
Just enjoyed a lovely chipotle salad at the bar. The salad was light and refreshing with a nice spice. Mags provided friendly, prompt service with a smile. This will be a regular spot for a nice working lunch.

Yelp
Wow! Ownership has changed. We loved the old owner (a tip of the hat to Daimond) but we are fans of the new menu and changes we can see coming. I had the vegan (yes vegan!) irish stew and it was spectacular. Just what I needed on a cold overcast day. My husband had the house salad with grilled salmon and loved it. Our waitress, Jessica (we love her and Jennifer as well - we often refer to them as the Jessifers) was as usual fantastic and makes a great martini. Highly recomment Pub Thirty Two. A great local hangout!
google avatar

Amber F.

Yelp
Went because I heard about a change of ownership and I was also craving a burger. It was a really great burger. It's been weeks and we're still thinking about it. Walked in on a Sunday and it was pretty busy due to brunch. They had lots of reserved tables but they were able to accommodate us. Lots of great stuff on the menu. Can't wait to try everything else.

Yelp
I've driven by this place for many years without stopping by, until tonight. My wife and I thought the restaurant looked nice and our waiter was friendly, but we weren't fans of our meals. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't very tasty. My Irish Whiskey Burger looked great, but the meat really needed salt and seasoning. The fries also lacked salt and flavor. I was expecting better for the $19 meal. My wife was excited to see Boxty Potatoes on the menu (reminds her of her time in Ireland), but she said they needed to be a bit crispier. Not sure if our experience was an outlier, but I don't think we'll make the effort to stop by again. There is a sign outside that says there has been or will be a change in ownership. I wish them the best of luck.

Yelp
We had a great evening out with the family in Pub Thirty Two, the staff were excellent, and the food was amazing, we shared a bunch of appetizers, the reuben croquettes, tomato avocado bruschetta were the hits, the little one had the mac and cheese, two thumbs up, then there was the Irish Breakfast, was a taste of home with real bread and a pint, followed by the bread and butter pudding. The place was busy, but we somehow managed to get a nice table outside. Looking forward to next time!

Yelp
Though you'd think any great story wouldn't start with, "So, I was having this salad and..." but somehow my wife said, "If it did, it would be this salad." From the more traditionally Irish side of the menu, I had the Poutine. The humble layering of fries, gravy, beef, and an egg never tasted so good. The beef shredded easily with just a fork and the Guinness gravy would bring Darby O'Gill himself to tears. SO good. Almost passed on adding a pint of the black stuff but so glad I caved to my better judgement. The perfect pairing. Every employee seemed truly glad to be there, which always improves the experience. The servers and manager, Jeff, were stellar. Irvine needs a place like this but until hell freezes over, we'll be returning - and likely Friday or Saturday for the live music to round it all out.

Yelp
100% a neighborhood bar type atmosphere. Menu has all the pub staples and a few surprises. I tried the French dip with added cheese (they said it was Gruyère). I really enjoyed it even though I didn't really use my au jus. My bf got the house burger. The only downside was they didn't have pickles. Other than that he said it was good.

Yelp
Today is my birthday and my husband wanted to take me to lunch for anything I wanted to eat. Lobster bisque was what I was craving so we came to Pub Thirty Two since it's pretty close. Pub Thirty Two is in a strip mall with lots of stores, restaurants, and services, so for lunch in a Friday there was plenty of parking. We arrived just before 12 and were waited on immediately. Our server was also the bartender. She gave good service and was pleasant. We ordered a Diet Coke and lemonade, I ordered a bowl of lobster bisque, and he ordered a cup of lobster bisque with half grilled cheese sandwich. We both agreed the bisque was just meh. It kinda tasted like it had bits of concentrated soup that hadn't quite melted yet (like from a can) and had chunks of langostino tales (not lobster) in it. My husband said the grilled cheese was pretty good. We probably won't come back. There's plenty of other local places we've enjoyed so much more.

Yelp
Stopped by after playing at Lake Forest Golf. The review by someone saying the Rueben Sandwich was the best got us there. Hubby got the Rueben and I got the lunch special 1/2 lobster bisque and grilled tuna melt. Both were outstanding! The most lobster in a bisque I've ever had. Sat at the bar and had a lovely bartender (name escapes me but she was from Alaska) with lots of locals. Will definitely be back soon!

Yelp
Came to see friends play on Sunday afternoon. This place is now under new management. Our table was close to the stage, the food was really good. Spending an afternoon with friends is always a good way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Casual ambiance, with a cozy Irish pub feel. Bangers and mash were very good!! As was the Lobster Mac and Cheese - this is more of a side size even though. Sausage wrap appetizer is wonderful!!

Yelp
This is a favorite for a afternoon brew and burger. They offer so much more after looking at their menu! . Their burgers are absolutely delicious. Good variety of beer on tap and interesting cocktails. They also have offer a lovely spot for dinner which we look forward to enjoying very soon! a I really don't think you can go wrong at pub 32. Their service has always been excellent along w the food w an environment that is small yet very comfortable. Don't understand why people aren't lining up. Please support , let's not lose another great restaurant/pub!!!

Yelp
Great place, warm feeling. Great service that goes above and beyond. Food is excellent, Chef Dean does an outstanding job. Jessica, Carri, Kasie, Jennie & Mark in the bar staff are true customer service professionals. I say these things cause after working in the biz for 30 years you know the good ones.
google avatar

Sherree B.

Yelp
The food and service were outstanding! This is my new go to for good Irish food. The ambience was nice too. It had a warm fireplace going on a very chilly day.
google avatar

Yelp
We hadn't tried this place in years, and we were glad we gave it another shot. The clam chowder was really nice. We went on an odd night in the week so it wasn't too busy. Our waitress was kind of off her game so the service wasn't as good as we would have liked. However, the owner helped to fill in where she lacked. Nevertheless, the food was pretty good and we think we would like to come back on a busier night and sit in the bar as I think that would be pretty lively and fun to hang out. The menu seem to have quite a few things that I would like to try so we will be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped for lunch last week and what a great lil spot with ice cold beer, cocktails and a good menu. I had the burger and fries and enjoyed every morsel. They also have entertainment and special events. The service was good good and the place seems to be a popular local bar and dining spot. Nothing fancy. Come as you are. Highly recommended

Yelp
Pub Thirty Two is wonderful! Went on a Saturday evening and there was live music that wasn't too loud and the musician was great. Sat in the bar area and was pleased with how much space there was. There were plenty of people in the bar area and it wasn't crowded. The interior was appropriately dim and sat at a comfortable corner table. The service from the time I walked in to the time I left was attentive and quick. The server was knowledge and on top of his game. The food was sooo good! The old fashioned burger was perfectly dressed and cooked. I ate the whole thing and most of the fries. The fries were excellent! I had been wanting to check this place out for a while and I'm glad I finally went. Can't wait to go back. If you're in the area and haven't tried them out definitely make the stop for a meal, they won't disappoint!

Yelp
This very unassuming restaurant delivered! Wow. The drinks were spot on and so reasonably priced. I had the Strawberry Farms cocktail. It was so delicious; the mint was so refreshing on a hot summer night. The food was so fast and so good. Not your regular bar food. Totally elevated. I was shocked at how good the dishes were. I had the garlic glazed salmon and my friend had the vegetarian pasta of the day, it was a caper lemon sauce with penne, green beans and red peppers. It was fantastic. We sat on the patio and Jeremy was our server. He was fantastic. Super attentive, got the dog water, and even correct a small error with the kitchen quickly. He really went above and beyond beyond and offered us sweet treats, such wonderful service. 10/10 will be here again. Lovely!

Jenny T.

Yelp
A pretty chill place with decent drinks. I've only ever had items off the lunch menu and they were all pretty good except for the fried banger. The sausage itself I can tell had been frozen for a while, as when I cut into it, it was soggy and the texture was terrible. No flavor and color looked depressing. The service is just okay, I'm assuming there's no real cook till dinner time (a different more extensive and delicious looking menu), so things take a while to come out.
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
Came for Sunday brunch. Live music with plenty of TVs to watch NFL. Great service and they pour a perfect Guinness. The owner is from Dublin Ireland. I loved my steak and eggs.

Corley M.

Yelp
Delicious food Excellent service. Arrived at 230pm to see out of friend. The early crowd left about that time. Early dinner people (mostly over 65) filled the restaurant at about 530pm
google avatar

Bob A.

Yelp
This place used to have the best fish n chips in town. Not anymore. It's not bad, but not particularly good. The lobster roll was well priced, at least until the first bite and then I realized it was actually a little over priced. Too much salad in the lobster salad and the lobster was clearly from a can. Would definitely not order again. That said, the service was friendly and the atmosphere was fine.
google avatar

Kathy L.

Yelp
Amazing menu here! Traditional Irish faves and so much more. Looking forward to going back!
google avatar

Kate C.

Yelp
Bummed. We by for lunch and the signed said closed. Doors were locked but I saw the TV on. Says it opens at 11:30. It's 11:40
google avatar

Ambrish P.

Yelp
Went for lunch today Service was Terrible Food was Horrible Waitress if you don't like your job QUIT
google avatar

Katrina E.

Yelp
The service and ambience or or OK, but since they were sold and remodeled, the food quality has gone down. The fish was greasy and heavily breaded late on my stomach like a brick. The burger used to be grilled and very tasty. It is now no taste at all with soggy bread. Either the cooks changed or something changed in the kitchen. The drinks were also beyond the past. Management should look into these changes and try for improvement.
google avatar

Yelp
Very fun spot for dinner. I came here with my friends after gym and we had a great time. Food was delicious, I will definitely return here!
google avatar

Evelyn B.

Yelp
We have dined here a few times recently. The beet salad and soup are delicious. On Sunday and Monday they have a corned beef dinner that is traditional and but elevated. Worth a stop and don't miss the broad pudding. Can be busy but staff is kind and helpful. Great vibe for dinner or just drink and apps.

Dennis C.

Yelp
The lobster bisque was delicious. The wife loved the crab cakes and Brussels sprouts. Great value on the steak and chips, cooked perfectly.
google avatar

Brittany B.

Yelp
Very disappointed. Went to the "restaurant week vip party" & was unable to even try anything from their booth due to the slow service and long lines. This evening we decided to travel to this location to give it a try. I would not recommend. As soon as we arrived the place smelt of pee. The service was slow & the food was delivered at different times. Having half the table waiting for their food while others could have finished their food before ours even showed up. Our food was pretty generic. Over all not worth it. To top it off as we paid to leave a huge roach ran across dinning area. Don't worry my husband killed it.

Alice E.

Yelp
This is a fabulous restaurant. Our food was incredible and the Irish bread is to die for. Our server was great and very attentive. The only downside was the hostess. She was rude and sullen. We will go back because the positives outweigh the one negative. We tried to be friendly to her, but she just glared at us. We eat out quite a bit and have never encountered this before. Oh well perhaps she was having a bad day?

Jacqueline F.

Yelp
Just wow! Amazing breakfast, both the lobster hollandaise and the P23 were exceptional. Then we watched the cocktails being crafted and had to try one - highly recommend the blood orange margarita and the spicy Bloody Mary. They have a brunch that looked incredible too - you'll need a rez for that. Plenty of room on the patio if they're booked. Cheers!

Yelp
We are from out of town. We stopped in after a swimming meet at the Mission Viejo aquatic center. The food was excellent. The service was fabulous. We were able to sit outside on a gorgeous March 2 day. Very happy with our experience.

Esperanza R.

Yelp
Fix everything! The staff is rude and ruined an important event, won't go back! Food is interesting on paper, eat the menu it's likely better, but probably dirty, mine was

Yelp
It had been several years since I'd been here, but a book club I'm a part of had its meeting here. I was more than excited to come back here since I knew they had Guinness on tap. I can't pass up a good Guinness, and it didn't disappoint! (And, it was a decent price for an import, too.) I also ordered the Irish beef stew, which will be rotating off the menu in the near future. I read that it was served over a potato, and I didn't really understand that part when ordering, but thought "oh, ok." Well -- it really is served on a potato. And I don't love potatoes. I think I was expecting it to be more of a stew (with beef, carrots, celery, etc.) but it was mostly beef in a broth over a potato. A unique twist on Irish stew. I'm glad I ordered it, but probably wouldn't have it again. I do look forward to coming back in the near future and trying something else... along with another proper pint! 2023: 17/100

Yelp
It's been a long time since I've dine here. My first time wasn't memorable so I thought to give it a second try. We went for dinner and noticed it wasn't busy. The atmosphere of the restaurant was quite empty inside and slow. I ordered the Fish & Chips and I was disappointed on the appearance and presentation. It was quite dark and thought to myself the fish is probably dry and overcooked; I was right. It also had this ammonia taste to it...awful. I was looking forward to eating the fries but it was so hard and stale it just ruined my appetite all together. The kind waitress was nice enough to offer other choices so I decide to just get their simple Caesar salad, which was just OK. Overall, they took these out from my bill and I am definitely not coming back. Now I remember why the first time wasn't memorable.

Taylor N.

Yelp
After Jeremy left service has gone so downhill. Waited over 15 minutes before having to go up to the bar to be acknowledged also asking for a burger and getting served a water. This used to be my go to place after work to relax and enjoy my time but now I'm going to have to find somewhere that actually cares about the customers and listens. The new owner needs to realize that updating a menu doesn't mean upping quality of service and atmosphere. Really disappointing. Cassie is the only reason to come back but unless she's working it's not worth it.
google avatar

Lindsay G.

Yelp
Great neighborhood pub :) great food and drinks, cozy. I didn't like the first time I went a year ago. Gave it another chance ..This time I loved it & I heard there's new owner.

David R.

Yelp
5 stars New staff, new menu, All of which was very refreshing. Loved the food, the service and the creamy pints (Probably the best Guinness in Orange County) Can't wait to come back. Keep up the great work.

Leia A.

Yelp
Just had my annual Christmas party here and it was incredible! We have been doing this for 10 years now and they are so accommodating and such great service from Jenny! Jenny hands down is one of the best bartenders and servers! She was on point and so attentive that exceeded our expectations. She was so kind and patient with our large group. Thank you Jenny so very much for your impeccable service.

Nelly C.

Yelp
Worse whiskey sours I've ever had. They asked me if I wanted a whiskey sour in the rocks? I know the NY style is on the rocks, but I clearly said I wanted the house whiskey sour, which the menu says has egg whites. Anyway, will never be coming again I will miss this place
google avatar

Bob F.

Yelp
Great food at a great price. Good atmosphere and appetizers. This pub was fun and it was our first time there.
google avatar

Michele D.

Yelp
We just came home after eating at Pub Thirty Two, this evening. I'm going to make this short.... Our server did great. The service was on par. However, the food was bland, no flavor. I have the short rib mash potatoes, and my man had their meatloaf. My short rib was dry and lacked flavor, bland tasting mashed potatoes. The meatloaf had a raw center. So, unfortunately it was a definite miss. The brownie dessert was so so. Don't order the short ribs or meatloaf. Our table was sticky, and this place could use an update. Sadly, we won't be returning.
google avatar

Joseph L.

Yelp
Nice pub atmosphere. Excellent food. Good service. We really enjoyed the pork belly scallop appetizer. The steak was also delicious - it was coffee crusted then sliced, served on a bed of fingerling potatoes with a spicy creamy sauce. Service was good, but could have been more attentive - drinks were empty on a few occasions, but overall a very good dining experience.

Yelp
We sat outside with the heaters and it was very pleasant on the patio Full bar, great menu very pleasant neighborhood restaurant. Family owned! Please support!!
