Kick Off Memorial Day Weekend With a Chardonnay at These 15 Atlanta-Area Spots | Eater

"Not many restaurants sell treats for you to take home to Fido — but Public House 28 does! Of course, you’re there for the human food, and that’s also delicious with pub grub on deck like big, soft pretzels, burgers, and wings, with a crisp glass of Harken to wash it down."

Google
Delicious food and very cool atmosphere. Chef Jodie does an amazing job with the menu delivering fresh and tasty entrees quickly. We grabbed brunch on a Saturday with chicken +waffles and were not disappointed. Definitely recommended!!

Google
A great selection of burgers and sandwiches on the menu, including an amazing caprese burger. One of the best burgers I’ve had in quite a while. Customer service was strong and prices are very reasonable. Great place to have a meal or drinks to meet with friends or watch a game.

Google
I ordered the tomato basil chicken and wow. It came with Brussel sprouts. Exceptional taste. I do not like Brussel sprouts. The waitress asked if Brussel sprouts would be ok as the side. I asked how are those cooked. She told me and I said I would try them. I am sooo glad I did. I now like Brussel sprouts ( there ). Ha. I met the chef and he is great and a great chef at that. Waitress was awesome and very helpful. I will be back again. Thank you Public House 28.

Google
This place is a hidden gem in the city!🤫🤌🏾 I highly recommend the chicken skewers and Black and Bleu Burger. Staff is amazing and they will make your visit worth it every time.

Google
Great place to eat and reasonably priced food. The steak was cooked perfectly, and the "clucker" was awesome. We went at 2:30 pm and they weren't busy, so the food came out fast. The service was friendly, and the chef even came out to see how our meal was

Google
I ordered the hickory chicken sandwhich and asked for no onions.. they didnt give me onions but they also forgot the bbq sauce and added lettuce and tomato which i dont like because it made my bottom bun soggy. The tator tots were also soggy due to how they were packaged. The chicken sandwich was good but a little too thick and it needed the bbq sauce.

Google
Perfect neighborhood place for good food, drinks, comfortable CLEAN atmosphere and easy, free no fricken APP or QR code parking....as LIFE SHOULD BE. Was there for the 3rd time under this management on Monday. Burger was made to order and not dry, sweet potato fries fresh and crispy, service was prompt, nice and attentive even though it was the big guy on charge. He's very nice and down to earth. Each time I've been makes up for how trifling and slow the previous named place this was YEARS ago. Now we have a real neighborhood Pub! I should go now to the patio. 🍔🍻🍹

Google
We came in. It took us 30 minutes to have our order taken. Then, had to wait another hour for our food and they weren' that busy. When the food came out they forgot one of our meals. The chicken tenders came out so burnt, they were almost inedible. The tater tots were cold and so undercooked they were inedible. The toddler who loves chicken kept spitting out his chicken so his mom tasted it and it was so salty you could not eat it and the burgers didn't have all of their toppings on them. The owner was behind the bar drinking and socializing the whole time. He and another employee ordered, received, and sat to eat their food all while we were still waiting for ours. The poor waitress seemed to be the only one doing anything and was being run ragged doing all the cleaning and waiting in the whole restaurant while others sat around. This has to be the worst restaurant experience I have had in a long time.

Yelp
Everything I've had here, so far, is delicious. The service is always very quick and friendly. The atmosphere is unbeatable. A good relaxed atmosphere to watch the game, or unwind at lunch or after work. Great beer selection.

Yelp
I gotta be so real with ya'll about this spot. So, listen and listen good. My sis and I were searching for a bar and grill to spend time with one another so she chose this spot but didn't know it had been 'gentrified '. Now, when we drove into the parking lot, I admit, I was shocked to see our yt counterparts seated outside. Native Atlantans, I am talking about Bolton Road! We walked in while, what seemed, lto be Bingo and Halloween fun a little hesitant to be seated. We sat down and greeted by Matosha. SHe was great and nice. I ordered the deviled eggs. I couldn't handle the strong zesty taste of mustard and barbecue sauce drizzled across powdered with a chili pour. Next, the Mushroom and Swiss burger was absolutely amazing! Juicy and all with a side of ranch to dip. Now, the salad could have had more ingredients for its $9 cost. I washed it down with the Mango Lemonade Boozy. My sis had the Ribeye and Brussel Sprouts. Omg! That was the best steak ever with crispy edges. I started to order one to go. The place was calm. Now, don't go messing things up. This is a hotspot for the locals. So, if you are going to go...they are kind and they are important. Check this spot out and ask for Matosha

Yelp
Definitely not medium, and extremely dry old steak. Who sells old steaks? Makes me wonder about the other shortcuts being taken. This was a place I visited a lot, but the quality has went downhill. There's only two people working the entire restaurant, and it shows. After recording subpar food, my waitress never came back as if she knew the steak was not right. I've been sitting at the bar with my door in front of me for 40 minutes and not one visit to all how is my meal. Very disappointing

Yelp
Solid neighborhoods pub. Plenty of parking outside. Food and drinks were really and affordable! Can't wait to come back for brunch and watch a game on the weekends. Maybe music bingo. The owner Don was so nice and friendly.
google avatar

Rayandra S.

Yelp
This is a great spot! The food was delicious and plentiful, the service was top notch (thanks, Emily!), and the prices were very reasonable. The deviled eggs were outstanding! We will be back! (And, they are dog friendly!)
google avatar

Doug L.

Yelp
The three stars is generous. The bean burger was not flavorful at all. The bean had zero spice on them. Boring. Flavorless. I ordered it with bleu cheese on it and it came with some creamy stuff that didn't taste like bleu cheese at all. And with slices of avocado which is pretty bland too. The bun was excellent. The tots were a bit mushy. The presentation as you see was nice. A friend went here and told me how great it is. Today, it was not. 2.7 rating.
google avatar

Scott M.

Yelp
Great friendly atmosphere with a menu that will pleasantly surprise you! As I tell new people when they come in and I am there, "never had anything on the menu that was not great"! Note, I hear the Brussel sprouts are to die for but, I never met a Brussel sprout ever liked! Also, ask for the amazing ice creams made by Fulton Street Dairy!!

Yelp
The african american server with blonde hair needs training. She repeated my order back to me but didn't write it down and yup you guessed it! It came out wrong! I wanted blackened chicken not fried chicken. The fried chicken sandwich had so much grease and wasn't good at all. They remade my order which took another 15 mins, the other person I was with finished eating by the time my food came just for the food to taste horrible! The blackened chicken sandwich came out sooooooo bland this was the worst unseasoned chicken sandwich I have ever had in my 30+ years of living. Ranch wasn't good. My soda kept coming out flat the guy behind the bar was like i'll take the drinks off, why are you taking my other parties drink off instead of discounting or taking my food off when my order was the one that was messed up? A waste of $18 dollars and over an hour of my time. I have no clue how they're still in business. Worst service and food. I will never be back.

Carla T.

Yelp
Local place with good food and great service. Definitely recommend the salads since they make dressing in house! But lots of other options too!

Ragan R.

Yelp
Food was okay. My husband said I was being generous with three stars. We wouldn't come back but it was alright.
google avatar

Tim M.

Yelp
Stopped into Public House for brunch and was pleasantly surprised. I probably shouldn't have been since the food has been good every time I've been here. The steak and eggs were great. The eggs toast and bacon were right on point. I topped it off with a mimosa. Everything was A1. I was ready for a nap after. The service was great as always. Public House 28 is consistently great!

Yelp
My wife and I tried this place again after many months and boy are we glad we did! Great friendly service with some amazing food, our new go to neighborhood spot The salmon southwest salad is off the charts!
google avatar

Tashombe H.

Yelp
Enjoyable food and drinks. Friendly server and bartender. Only had wings but will definitely go back to try other items.
google avatar

Linda A.

Yelp
Always a smiling face and kind word from the owner! Love supporting a small local business that cares! Then you add on great drinks and food it's a win for all!
google avatar

Cissy W.

Yelp
Ordered a take out order last Saturday, 7 sandwiches/burgers & sides. Staff was really great to work with, both on the phone and at time of pickup. All items in order correctly received. In our group there was a variety of items ordered and everyone was pleased. I got the Acapulco Burger and it was great! The Angus Beef used in the burgers has great flavor. Avocados were perfect, ripe enough but not over done and mushy. Fries were crispy, which was perfect. Seems like the kind of place that could be a great neighborhood spot, especially in post pandemic times.

Yelp
Food Was So Delicious My Hats Off To Chef Jodie I Have The Chicken And Waffles And Let Me Tell You It Didn't Disappoint And What I Love He Came Around And Ask The Customers Was Everything OK And That's What I Love The Food And Customer Service Hats Off To Chef Jodie I Will Be Back!!!

Colleen J.

Yelp
Tried this restaurant for the first time tonight and glad we did! Service was quick and our server was super friendly and knowledgeable. We had the pretzel, wings, and chicken sandwich and all the food was very well prepared and delicious! This place will definitely be on our rotating list!
google avatar

David J.

Yelp
This spot is right around the corner from me and everyone from the managers to the bartenders and waitresses have been great. Really like the food too mainly the wings and they have a great beer selection with decent pricing. Highly recommend!!!

Genesis M.

Yelp
Great food! Love the chicken wings! I mixed the Honey Chipotle and Lemon Pepper Wings. Jodie the chef was very welcoming and nice.

Yelp
My fiancé stumbled across this place last year and usually the customer service and food is amazing but unfortunately tonight I received neither. I ordered the vegetarian nachos and the klucker chicken sandwich with fries. To my surprise the fries were cold as well and the chips were stale. I called and spoke with the manager Don and once I was finish telling him what happened it was a awkward silence and then he says I mean I agree with you (I'm guessing he was tasting it and that's the reason for the silence) I'll comp the meal. I paused and said no I didn't want that because I still needed to eat, but I was cut off and he stated that he didn't want a bad experience so he'll comp it. Not wanting to argue I said okay, he said okay and bye like I was the problem. I was left stunned and hungry. Not a apology or better yet let me remake it. My fiancé loved his sandwich as usual but I was left hungry for the night. I hate this happened because we were going at least once maybe twice a week.

Yelp
This is one of our favorite local neighborhood eateries. You're always greeted by a smiling staff member, and they always try to get to know the members of the community. The food far exceeds what you would think of as "pub food" - high quality ingredients with great flavor. Don't go here and not try the salmon entree or salmon BLT.

Gb9170 B.

Yelp
Food is good. Atmosphere is fun. And, everyone is super friendly. We are lucky to have it as our neighborhood pub.

Gloria W.

Yelp
This restaurant was in a nice location. It had an amazing atmosphere and staff. The food was delicious with prompt service.

Ryan M.

Yelp
Public House 28 is so awesome! I came here tonight for EssBee's show and the atmosphere wouldn't let me leave! From good music, to good food, to good drinks, Pub 28 has it all.
google avatar

Taylor W.

Yelp
We needed a quick lunch so we stopped at Public House. Immediately after we sat outside, a waiter came to take our drink orders and brought out a dog bowl for water. We chose to buy dog treats because what dog doesn't want a snack too when his people are out for lunch?! They were organic carrot and blueberry. He loved them and he's a decently picky eater. Of note, they do need to be refrigerated. I had the pesto salmon over Brussels sprouts and I loved it. My boyfriend had the steak sandwich with a nice hunk of Mozzarella. Lastly, my aunt who joined us had the black bean cakes with Brussels and there was a good amount of avocado!!!
google avatar

Annetta B.

Yelp
I went to this location for the first time with my sons and the food, service and drinks were on point! The ambiance was cool, it was still light outside so it worked. I just moved in the area so I intend to visit more.
google avatar

Gina B.

Yelp
Come check out Don the owner and his amazing restaurant! Cheers vibe, great food and reasonable prices!

Hunter L.

Yelp
I usually enjoy my food here but this last time i did not. I found a big dead bug in my to-go container with my food. It was unfortunate that i saw the bug at the end of my meal. Ugh! I was disgusted and felt sick afterwards. Please take time with the to-go orders as well. I wasted my money.
google avatar

Candyce V.

Yelp
Had no idea this restaurant was in the area, but I'm glad I know now. We stopped by late on a Saturday night and it was pretty empty. The staff was very friendly as soon as we walked in. And our server was kind and attentive the entire time. I wasn't super hungry, so I got the Chicken Caesar Salad. I was expecting something smaller for the price ($9, I think) but it was a huge entree sized serving. The chicken was delicious and tender. I'll be sure to return and check out other menu items.

Deja C.

Yelp
Kinda disappointed because last two times i ordered I specifically asked for a well done burger, and each time it was raw in the middle and the first time it made my fiancé sick and wasnt able to eat it the second time he bit into it and they didnt even try to fix it when i called to tell them or apologize not a great customer service experience and i eat there often and have spent good amount of money with them so idk at this point loved em but now not so much
google avatar

Julie N.

Yelp
I always order the meat balls but lately I started getting the chicken skewers ! The owner Don and the main bartender Ellen are so cool ! You need to come in if you haven't already !

Jessica R.

Yelp
I really enjoy the atmosphere of this restaurant. I sat in the patio area, which was nice & quiet. I loved the fact that this place is Dog Friendly(they actually have a spot on the menu for the Dogs!) you would definitely enjoy your dinner here. There is plenty on the menu to switch it up. The menu has a variety to be able to fill people who are vegan, vegetarian and the normal carnivores. Burger, subs, soups and salads, They also have your specialty entrees if you want to steer away from the common American dishes. They have trivia Wednesday, so get here early. Try this place, you won't be disappointed!

Walter G.

Yelp
This place have great food excellent service a place you would love to invite friends and families to drink and enjoy good food but I got an ear that a great chef that they have there is about to leave Jody Johnson we'd hate to see him leave

CJ C.

Yelp
We went here on a Friday afternoon, early evening about 4pm. It was a beautiful day. There was a medium party eating outside on the small patio. We walked in. There was one person sitting at the high-top section, and three people sitting at the bar. We were yelled at from a person tending the bar to" sit anywhere!". None of the seats seemed to be cleaned, however, we settled on a section. As you can see from the pictures we had appetizers ; half priced, Mon.-Fri. 4pm- ? (I cannot remember the time it stops) nacho trio that came with queso, guacamole, and pico, we also had deviled eggs. The queso was good, but really watered down, the pico had chunks of onion but was still tasty, and the guacamole was nothing special-just guac. The deviled eggs were good, including the sauce, we were hesitant to order because of the sauce, but we were told it was really good and we will like them- we did! My husband said the burger was good and flavorful, the tots were my favorite. My daughter chicken tenders were seasoned and cooked perfectly. The fries were cold. My ribeye (7oz steak, which IMO was over priced) was served cut, unseasoned, a top of cold, somewhat mushy, brussel sprouts. I was disappointed by the steak, but, I love brussel sprouts so I was more disappointed about them. The person that was serving us told us he was the only one there when my husband asked for another drink. I felt bad asking him for salt (very much needed for the steak) or anything else for that matter, especially to tell him my meal was not hot or good, so I did not. Also, I washed my hands before we ate, the bathroom was not clean. Oh, one more thing- he also told us that we did not need to wear our masks in the resturant, we "either had it (covid) and did not know we had it, or we were immune".

Garnet J.

Yelp
Service is extremely slow! Manager refused to compensate for an order being delivered after everyone had ate. He said that his restaurant couldn't accommodate a group of 17. We called ahead of time and was told that they could accommodate us prior to our arrival. We we walked in and there was no one in the restaurant except our group. He gave us excuses including him getting a haircut during slow hours! Avoid this place!
google avatar

Joshua H.

Yelp
This is the latest restaurant for the duo behind Big Easy Grille and Westside Pizza. It has very little competition in the neighborhood and it seems to reflect that. I started with the chip trio which was really good - the chips had a house seasoning which I thought made them unique. For an entree I had the chicken cáprese sandwich. The flavor was okay but the chicken breast was swallowed by the bread. The fries were above average though. Overall, the food was fine and the service was good. I would say the prices are a bit high for the portions.
google avatar

Di'Licia C.

Yelp
Came in for lunch the food was great large portioned salmon was cooked perfectly. The French 75 I ordered was perfectly made.
google avatar

Kathie F.

Yelp
This neighborhood spot has some tasty dishes. I had the salmon with brussel sprouts and my husband had the bean burger. Everything was tasty and delicious and the portions were generous. I will definitely be back.
google avatar

Robbin W.

Yelp
The bar tender was great but inexperienced. I had lipstick on my glass and the manager told me the same thing would happen if I used my dishwasher at home. Wrong response!!! He had an attitude for interrupting him stuffing his face. Zero stars on customer service.
google avatar

Frederick J.

Yelp
Best burger I have had in a long time. Going back tomorrow! Friendly staff. The owner greeted me. The place is much. Larger than it looks from the outside. I look forward to trying other dishes. Also, the bar is attractive and I will have to try it after hours.
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
This place is great for the Riverside neighborhood. I love the beer selection and you have to try the huge pretzel!

Mark R.

Yelp
"Pub" or "28" is a great spot! Food is consistently great while Don and staff are always the best - they'll never forget your name.
google avatar

Nick D.

Yelp
This a new place , so the crowd is slow of coming but it's a place you can definitely enjoy a nice craft beer if you into things like that. The food is good don't expect gourmet, cause it is a pub. Great little place to come
google avatar

Adelaide H.

Yelp
Just ate here for the first time. It came highly recommended and did NOT disappoint. They close the kitchen at 9 but my mom really wanted us to try it and we had JUST gotten back to town and were looking for dinner. She called and spoke to the manager/owner who said "come on by! I'll hold the grill for y'all". We show up and sure enough his kitchen crew had already left and he went back to make our dinner. He was absolutely delightful, kind, considerate, and helpful. The food was delicious. I got a chicken Cesar salad and a side of fries, my mom had the salmon BLT, my brother had the brunch burger, and my boyfriend had the wings. EVERYTHING was good and nothing on the menu is over $15. My salad was HUGE and only cost about $9 and that is including the chicken- which is good pricing for a good salad in Atlanta. I will definitely be back!!
google avatar

M F.

Yelp
Great food; bad service simply because they are grossly understaffed. The bartender waits the whole restaurant. You can sit right at the bar, order a drink and never get it. Bad service is unavoidable when you're understaffed.
google avatar

David P.

Yelp
No problem with the food, drinks, or service...but the menu is really overpriced for the neighborhood, shockingly so for a few items such as the chili (which is very good) The bar has a great location with few competitors. There is a substantial population within a short drive that desires more options. B's Cracklin bbq nearby has shown that you can succeed in that neighborhood. Hope they find their niche. But $8 for a cup of chili will not have me returning.
google avatar

Daniel T.

Yelp
Staff was not properly wearing masks. Social distancing completely unenforced for customers. We tried to sit on the patio but other customers crowded up very close to us none of them masked and completely disrespectful. We had to leave before even ordering. Do not go here
google avatar

Sarah P.

Yelp
I was excited to see chili and grilled cheese combo, no where on the menu it stated that the bread to my grilled cheese would be an inverted hamburger bun. The worse part of my meal is that it was served to us cold. The cheese had already harden and we all know chili is not enjoyable cold. The server did ask if we wanted to send it back, but we had already waited over 20mins for our meal to be served cold. The service was great, the sauce on the deviled eggs was delicious it would be great on wings. If you do decide to try this place out come for the wings, but don't hold me accountable for what flavors you choose. The server sold us on the "house" it's supposed to be a dry spices of Cajun and salt.. I'm not sure it it was tossed incorrectly, but it was a waste of an option. There was no flavoring of any sort just slightly salty. Luckily it was a well cooked wings, we don't mind plain wings just wanted to try out the flavors. The crown to the whole menu that we've tried is the habanero tequila lime flavor, it is as advertised. We've been trying new places in hopes to be able to tell our neighborhoods and friends of new gems, but this place was very underwhelming.
google avatar

Amanda F.

Yelp
The food--Acapulco Burger, fries, and Visalia onion dip--was delicious. The burger was juicy and cooked perfectly, steamed bun, crispy fries, and the dip was rich and gooey and YUM! The problem is the ambience. The place wasn't crowded and we were the only customers at one point. The interior is brand new and feels a little like someone's finished basement. There is no "pub" atmosphere, the HVAC unit was loud and drowned out the music. I hope this place makes it because I live in the neighborhood. Go check it out and maybe it'll get some nicks and dings and enough spilled drinks to give it some character!
