BREADED FRIED PICKLES
round breaded pickles in corn meal
served with ranch dressing
OH. MY. GOSH. I devoured an entire order of fried pickles dipped in ranch dressing and I'm still reeling from the experience. I've had my fair share of addictive appetizers, but this? This is on a other level.
First of all, the fried pickles themselves are a revelation. Crispy, crunchy, and simultaneously chewy and fluffy, they're the perfect vessel for ranch dressing's creamy, tangy goodness. And let's not even get started on the flavor - it's like a party in your mouth! The sweetness of the pickles balances out the savory of the ranch, creating this incredible, familiar, and exciting new harmony.
But here's the thing: I couldn't stop eating them. I know I should've stopped after one or two, but NOPE. I just kept going back for more and more and MORE. Before I knew it, the basket was empty and I craved more.
I mean, what's going on here? Is it the magic of the fried pickles themselves? Ranch dressing is addictive? The sheer genius of combining the two? Whatever it is, I'm hooked.
If you haven't tried these yet, do yourself a favor and get to Public School ASAP. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you.
PRETZEL BITES
pretzel bites served with house-made beer cheese & BBQ mustard
They had some positive qualities but ultimately fell short for me. The crunch on the outside was delicious - I love crunchin my pretzels! But, unfortunately, they were too salty for my taste. I mean, I like salt, but these were overpowering. It made it hard to appreciate the pretzel flavor. The house-made beer cheese and BBQ mustard were nice touches, but even they couldn't save the pretzels from their salty fate. If you're sensitive to salt, you might want to steer clear of these. But if you don't mind strong salt flavors, you might enjoy them.
THE PUBLIC SCHOOL BURGER
LTO, pickle, american cheese, spicy ketchup, mustard bbq, brioche bun
A burger that promised much, but ultimately fell flat. The beef patty, unfortunately, was dry and lacked the juiciness one would hope for from a burger. And to make matters worse, the brioche bun was overcooked, losing its softness and becoming stale and crumbly. The toppings, which included lettuce, pickle, American cheese, spicy ketchup, and mustard BBQ sauce, did their best to elevate the dish, but ultimately couldn't compensate for the poor execution of the burger itself. The spicy ketchup and BBQ sauce added a tangy kick, but it was a small consolation for the overall disappointment. Despite its promising ingredients, the Public School Burger was a letdown that left this reviewer craving something more.
And our waitress was a bright spot in an otherwise disappointing meal. She was friendly and attentive, refilling our drinks and checking in on us regularly without being intrusive. Her warm smile and cheerful demeanor made us feel welcome and valued, making us almost forget about the subpar burger.
If only the food had lived up to the promise of the atmosphere and service, the BREADED FRIED PICKLES might have been a real winner. As it stands, it's a reminder that even the best restaurants can have an off day.
