Though I've never been to the place-- or Salt Lake City for that matter-- these fine java-obsessed folks know what they're doing. The company is proud of its business, its name (their site details and defines "Publik" as being Dutch for community) and its product. And well they should be. Great stuff.
Received a bag of the Beekeeper roast as a gift. Once I figured out a way to get the whole lot of the whole beans ground up at once, it was ready to be brewed and savoured. Man is it outstanding and delicioso, with sweetness from elements of berry, tangerine and maple according to the taste profile on the bag. Doesn't take much, just a scoop or two to perc (get it? get it?) up the rest of the daily carafe I make. Put paper filter in, one scoop of Beekeeper first, then six plus scoops of whatever de-caff I have on hand, close the door and let the machine do its thing. If it is this good in just a percentage of my coffee grounds blend, I can only imagine how incredible it would taste, if I ventured to throw my caffeine-ation caution to the wind. Mind. Blown. You can tell I live dangerously.
As per my usual preference, I wish it came in de-caffeinated. Their site does offer one de-caff variety "Marmalade", so I might just order that some day. From the looks of all the photos here, the industrial chic place where they've set up shop is a full-on coffee house hang-out offering tea and light brekfust. It's likely rather noisy and echo-y in there, as warehouses are, so you might not want to stay long at all. But still, I know where I'd get my fix if I ever visit SLC. Count me in as a solid fan of Publik Coffee Roasters.
