Puebla Mexican Food

steak tacos were super dry, hard to swallow. $11 for two small tacos is also outrageous. corn tortillas were good though, but other than that very mid and wouldn’t go again.

I was sure hoping this place was going to be at least above average, because the Mexican food in New York City is so hit and miss and for me this Asada taco was a miss, an airball from the free throw line. I would give it less than three stars but the ambiance the people were very friendly, and maybe I caught them on a bad day but this steak was dryer then a cracker with little to no flavor. The sauce is the only reason I was able to eat half of one taco the rest I'm sorry went into the trash. I was very skeptical when I saw them heating up my steak in a frying pan which told me that this was prepared well in advance.

How can a place like this survive? Bad food bad service. I’ve never had a worse burrito in my life.

I got the peccadillo enchiladas on recommendation, and even went for the full experience of the hot sauce (I can’t say I wasn’t warned). Tasted good but have to be honest that my stomach was NOT thanking me for this meal in the hours that followed.

Ordered a Mexican salad with chicken and avocado as an add on, which is on their MENU! The worst mistake ever!!! I received a small very basic romaine, 6 pieces of small chop tomato, 4 pieces of green pepper and my add ons. Chicken was shredded and very very bland! (Looked like my dogs chicken) No flavor at all, i regret not taking a picture bc it was my first time ever buying something like this. Never ever buying anything from here! And they need to take that salad off their menu!

The tacos didn’t taste authentic, food was very bland. Even though it’s seems to be made fresh it tasted like an uncultured person attempted to make the cuisine it felt very Americanized. The chicken seemed to be boiled with minimal seasoning. With iceberg lettuce and a few tomato’s and cheese. I wouldn’t return again honestly it was just enough not to starve.

Honestly, this Mexican restaurant doesn’t do the cuisine justice. The tacos were among the saddest I’ve ever encountered, with boiled chicken that just didn’t taste right. The quesadillas were overly greasy, leaving much to be desired. To top it off, the lemonade was the worst I’ve ever tasted—far from refreshing. While the staff were friendly, the kitchen could really benefit from a chef who knows how to cook Mexican food with care and authenticity.

My husband and I grab Puebla almost every Saturday morning, and are sad when we don’t. Our go-tos are the chilaquiles with scrambled eggs, tacos de raja con papa, picadillo burrito with spinach, and breakfast tacos. Recommend calling your order in ahead of time since it’s made to order (typically takes 15-20 minutes). We love this family-run stall in Essex Market ❤️

The staffs are friendly, this is located in Essex Street Market and there's seating upstairs. Ordered a chicken burrito and a steak quesadilla it comes with sour cream and hot sauce. The chicken burrito is better in terms of portion, they raised the price of the steak quesadilla which doesn't reflect from menu. Would come here if we are in the area. Service is kind and expedient. I'm always on the search for molé and I loveee the chorizo mole enchiladas and honestly it's a pretty good bang for your buck even with recent price increases. I come here everytime I'm at Essex Market it's so good! Definitely recommend!

Located inside Essex St Market, this amazing Mexican spot is on the main floor. I ordered the shrimp quesadilla and it hit the spot. The service was fairly quick too and they make everything fresh. I will definitely be back! Loved the hot sauce too.

The only good thing about my order was the delivery time. I am actually surprised at how bad the food was. The chips were too crispy or stale but definitely not good. I ordered a burrito with chips,salsa and guacamole on the side. The burrito was filled with rice very little meat and plenty of beans, and no cheese as mentioned on the menu. Overall the food had no flavor at all, the salsa especially. I am extremely disappointed with the overall lack of taste. Definitely wont be ordering from here again.

I got a chicken quesadilla with rice and beans. I feel like I should have gone with a burrito which is what I saw other people order. The quesadilla needed more cheese in my opinion. But overall the food here is really fresh and tasty. The rice and beans were so good I ate it all!

I'll start by saying I've been here about 5 times. I wanted to continue to support a family owned business and continue to give them a chance thinking maybe it was an off day. It just became painfully hard to pay over $45 for the worst Mexican breakfasts I've had. The chilaquiles are beyond soggy and almost inedible. Breakfast burritos are just as bad. They're the tiniest burritos I've had that consist of mostly beans. I looked at the reviews and someone stated they had the largest burritos they've ever had, so obviously they've downsized exponentially, probably due to inflation. However, $9 for these ain't it. The chorizo isn't chorizo and resemble hot dogs. The bacon was almost non-existent, pre cooked, and again, soggy. To say it isn't worth the money and wait is an understatement. Disappointed.

Puebla is a tiny kitchen that can be found among the market stands inside Essex Market. If you're looking for "somewhat authentic" Mexican food while at this market, this is your only option. Menu options include burritos, tacos, quesadillas - virtually all the classic menu options you'd find at a Chipotle chain but with a more "home-made" vibe to it. However, I do find Puebla's prices to be steep when considering portion size and overall food quality. I ordered their Milanesa Torta (the classic Mexican breaded chicken sandwich with all the fixings), hoping it would transport me to the delicious ones you'd find south of the border. Unfortunately, it lacked seasoning and was a very small sandwich.

Located inside of Essex Street Market. I had an order of steak tacos as part of the Taco Tuesday special: two tacos and a drink for $8. The tacos were excellent. It was evident from the taste that the steak was marinated and seasoned marvelously. They used green salsa for the steak tacos, which are typically served with red salsa, but it worked. The salsa was spicy but not too hot and the tacos were wonderfully flavorful. I also had a chicken tamale. They, unfortunately, do not put the spicy sauce inside of the tamale, instead they put it on the side for people that are spice averse. The result is the tamale is dry. The white meat chicken inside was flavorful, and the masa (corn filling) is good, but without putting the sauce into the tamale it is dry.

Bad customer service. I asked them to mix the ingredients of my burrito and the man said "do you want me to feed it to you to?" Didn't think it was that big of an ask, not the way to talk to a customer. The burrito was dry and you could tell the rice had been sitting out for a while.

Puebla you are truly incredible, I had a wonderful experience here yesterday. The ambience of this place is outstanding and so welcoming! They got a lovely menu as well. The team is really a highlight of this place because they are always fast, polite, and provide service with a smile! I can come here every day.

Visited the Essex Market yesterday and decided to try this place out. I ordered nachos and a chicken quesadilla and my boyfriend got a steak sandwich. Nachos- black beans, cheese, guacamole & jalapeños. the chips came out of a bag which was less than impressive because freshly cooked ones are always so much better. the nachos were so so, nothing to rave about. Chicken quesadilla- chicken & cheese with hot sauce and sour cream on top. I asked for no sour cream but received it. I ate it anyway though. The quesadilla was packed with chicken but the chicken lacked flavor. The hot sauce on top gave it a nice spice but that's about it. It was surrounded by lettuce and tomato which i thought was odd. There was no guacamole or pico de gallo to dip it with. Steak sandwich- not much steak and nothing to rave about. also lacked flavor. Wouldn't return...

Could be better! My sandwhich was poorly built. I would have loved it if their breaded chicken was thicker and added more of the ingredients. The taste was alright.

BEWARE! I got an order of tamales there last Friday and the woman swiped my card three times. She said their internet was down. I now have three charges for 1 order on my account. I called them the next day and got voicemail. I left a message with my number, but they did not call back. I am now disputing the charges with my credit card company. Oh, and my tamales were super bland and dry.

This place has no flavor. I tried two kinda of tacos and they were bland as bleep. The chicken was boiled and tasted like nothing. Mexican chicken has flavor and this had none. Second I tried the shrimp and all I can say is they need salt cilantro something. The little line did nothing to bring flavor out because there was none. They seriously need to work their recipes. I also asked for medium and the tacos had no heat at all.

Good food but not a great experience in the new Essex Market. They seem totally overwhelmed, and yet they keep answering the phone and taking phone orders and online orders while not even acknowledging the people that have been standing around in person wanting to place an order or simply to be acknowledged!

What the what? I paid 7 bucks for a burrito served to me by a very enthusiastic I 6 year old. Ire curved and thought it was quite small. Based on other reviewers I thought I'd try the chicken breakfast burrito. Keeping my expects real low, because Mexican food in Nyc is such a let down when it sucks, I took my first bite. Delicious! I def recommend you give it a try. It was warm, soft and chewy. I asked for hot sauce and it was right j the middle of spicy..... For someone who enjoys hot things. I'll be coming back and updating my review . Check this place out.

This place is in the Essex market building so it's like a food court-tables upstairs. The chicken tacos were pretty good! I wasn't a fan of the guacamole and chips-they give the guac in a very small portion. Quick and good service

Interesting little taco stand. I had a steak torta, it was huge.... the flavor was good. I just wished it had more mayo. They are very generous with the meat. My fiance got some tacos. He liked them but felt that they were over priced. It was like $3 per taco.

The food is very good. I order and recommend the meals which come with rice and beans. I do not think of this spot as a fast food casual a la Taco Bell so I do not suggest ordering nachos and such. Try their tamales which are "home made" and delicious. I also recommend the tostadas, which are better here than in most other Mexican restaurants I visit. An added plus is the owner: he is friendly, accommodating and knows his regular customers. I have been going to this place since the days it was on First Avenue, and recommend it.

Very disappointing. For a place that bills themselves as "authentic", they serve, cheese lettuce and tomato on their tacos, ala american style. Aside from that the chicken on the taco was so dry and flavorless. Nothing had flavor inside this taco. It was a disaster. Also ordered "chips". Typical corn tortilla chips that you might get in bulk from Costco. Also ordered black beans - no flavor. Asked for hot sauce on the taco, it came on the side, again, typical store bought bulk hot sauce. Had to unwrap the taco to apply it. Several reviewers here called out the bland food, take heed. Some reviewers liked the food. They probably usually order from "yummy taco" or something. Also waited a really long time for the food, even thought not many people in front of me. They put higher priority on take out orders. Dear owners of Pueblo - you are situated in one of the most important Hispanic cultural markets in the city. Please serve up quality authentic food.

If it wasn't for the long wait, I would've given this spot 5 stars. The food was amazing. At first glance I couldn't understand what was about to happen when I packed my corn tortilla and experienced heaven in a bite! I mostly ate the meal with the tortillas since I love tacos and my Gf ate it normal with utensils. We both loved it, with no words to explain. The small order was around $9 and large portion only a couple dollars extra (wish I would of gotten the large. It was that good) rice and beans were cooked to perfection, had flavor and wasn't bland at all. The pork was flavorful and very tender. Since it was my first time trying the platters, I went with the mild red chili sauce. It wasn't spicy at all, which was perfect for my gf seeing that she hates spice. I'll be going for the green chili next time. Either way the red chili sauce was great nonetheless. Now the only reason I didn't give this location 5 stars even though there food is worth the trip alone to Essex market is, the wait is a bit on the long side. There was only a small 4 person group being seen too, so I didn't expect them to be so busy. After eating the food, it was worth the wait in my opinion. Some people might not want to wait so long being surrounded by other amazing food vendors. That's the only complaint I can think of. This place is amazing and I'll most definitely be back to try everything else

Been ordering Mole Burritos from here for years and not disappointed. It's rare to find a good Mole burrito, so give it a shot here. So good.

Breakfast tacos are hard to find in NYC. Puebla has them and they are excellent. No frills, straight up, home cooked, simple and delicious. I can't speak to other stuff on the menu, but the crew behind the kitchen looks to have their heart in the food. Support homegrown places so they don't go extinct. Or at least enjoy them before they do.

Tacos are good but avoid the nachos. Cheese are not melted, I got the steak and it was dry and poor quality meat, no sour cream, bad chips. Probably the worst nachos I've had in a long time.

Great tacos (spicy sauce is killer). Super reasonable prices. The lady who made my food was super sweet and reminded me of mom. Definitely coming back Went back. Burrito also amazing

Worst tacos I've ever had in nyc. Sad but true. No flavor in the carnitas. The tacos were small and wrapped like a sandwich. No lime, scanty sauce. Stomach ache. Sad times

I'm very disappointed. Sadly enough, I should've been prepared for this because this area of NYC ( LES ) sucks when it comes to good food. They'll overcharge you for some shit that they claim is gourmet or innovative and it's literally an elaborate way of saying " fuck you pay me" I spent 8$+ on these horrible nachos. I watched in horror as she melted the cheese and chips in the microwave, meanwhile she has an oven and stove! She put bland tasteless chicken on top of it. I could've made bland microwave nachos at home! I won't be eating here again. Waste of time.

I don't know anything about this place, but I did go there with good intent this very evening. I asked the counterman what I should order, and at the end I ordered several items, totalling about $30. This may seem strange, and it was very strange to me, but he seemed to take quite an affront with me, and then I apologized for my lack of protocol, but he insisted I was treating him poorly because he was a "lazy Mexican". I attempted to assure him that nothing of the kind existed but in his perspective, but he was adamant. It was at this time that I witnessed what I think I saw was him spitting into the food that was being prepared for me. I was the only customer at the counter. Now I can guess why. At that point, I told him that I do not like or trust him and that he can keep the money (about $30) that I had paid. No need to continue preparing the food. I wished him and his staff a happy New Year. That is my story of this place. I should rather lose some money and go without food than have to deal with this horrible service and bad attitude. I shall never, ever return.

I did delivery and got the vegetarian cactus burrito. It arrived hot and the burrito itself was really well wrapped. It was simple and delicious. I also got a side of chips and salsa. The salsa was a small portion in one of those tiny plastic cups so it made dipping the chips difficult.

This is where I get my breakfast burritos in the LES. I usually go for the chicken option, but the chorizo one is also very tasty. The lady makes it fresh and if you can take a bit of heat, you should ask for extra spicy because it's amazing. It's cash only, but the prices are low, the lady is so sweet, and the fresh fruit and veggie stalls around the corner make the short wait a fun one. Since I moved to the LES a few months ago, I've stopped by almost every other weekend.

Yum breakfast! The woman that made my burrito made it exactly as I would have if I had all the ingredients and the patience to cook. Cash only, but look at the prices, who is charging less than 10 dollars to a credit card anyway?
