My fellow reviewers made me laugh reading the reviews for Puebla. It seems to be either they hate it because of silly incidentals like charging a gazillion dollars for a side of whatever or the waitress taking forever to bring the check, or they love it because it's one of the last bastions of rock-around-the-clock eating in a gentrifying neighborhood.
Every time I go to Logan's Square on a Friday or Saturday night, it seems no one cooks--the restaurants are filled and bustling with activity...long waits, iffy service and pricey dining (yes, Lula's, that would be you). So whenever one of my Logan's Square friends dangles the "let's go to my fave funky dive restaurant and have dinner" carrot in front of me to beckon me from my downtown igloo, I usually say, "um...no. I'm doing my hair...I know, I'm boring." I'll then go out to one of the downtown/Mich Ave chain restaurants and eat my boring food but not complain because I'm waiting with nicely mannered Iowan tourists rather than gaggles of 30 year-olds living in a gentrifying neighborhood.
But...this Sunday morning I decided to show Mother Nature that I am intrepid even in 4-inch snow, met my friend at Puebla, and was treated to a nice, pleasant chimichanga meal with a side Taco. Served within 5 minutes, hot, yummy and not too expensive. Remember, I'm from downtown which means I'm used to jacked up prices and being charged a gazillion dollars for sides. Our waitress was nice, the menu extensive and I appreciated that the 5-6 families in there were all Latino.
