Why Toronto is Not Just All Business

"At this Bib Gourmand Mexican kitchen, the move is the wera tostada followed by the classic carlota." - Michael He

"Puerto Bravo is a quaint little spot on a busy street. The menu is also compact, leaning heavily on seafood while spotlighting regional cooking from Tampico on the Gulf of Mexico.Their itty bitty kitchen is the little engine that could, doling out bold flavors and phenomenal bites made with quality ingredients and executed with care. Salsa macha is made in-house. One dish worth ordering is the wera tostada, a riot of colors and textures. The crispy corn tostada is layered with mashed avocado and thin slices of octopus and shrimp tossed in a spicy macha mayo for a vibrant meal. Finish with something sweet, perhaps the classic carlota. Made with soft Marie biscuits layered with lime, condensed milk and cream cheese, it's a refreshing finale." - Michelin Inspector

This little gem in Gerrad is everything we had hoped for! The staff is friendly and the place neat and clean however tiny. We got the chips & Guac and corn starters and the papas con chorizo (vegan) and the Dorados de pescados for mains. All the dishes were deciduous! No questions! The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because it has only 1 main dish that’s vegetarian and has zero chicken options. Most options were fish, shrimp and octopus. However this is definitely a MUST visit place in Toronto! Fun fact: This restaurant that has Bib Gourmand restaurant by the Michelin Guide at Toronto's 2022 Michelin Guide ceremony, and has retained this recognition each year since!!

Puerto Bravo absolutely delivers. The flavors are bold, the kind that punch you in the face in the best possible way. We had the guacamole, carne asada taco, ceviche, aguachile tostada, and dorados de pescado (fav of the night). everything was packed with freshness and spice, perfectly balanced and full of character. Hot sauce so good bought a bottle of it The cocktails were strong and really well made, a great match for the food. The space itself is small and cozy, which adds to the charm. Definitely one of the best spots in the city for vibrant, flavorful Mexican seafood.

It's well worth the trip to the east end of Toronto to pay a visit to Puerto Bravo. What's especially unique about this Michelin Guide restaurant is the seafood focused menu. The ceviche and aguachile is made up of ultra fresh seafood, which is often hard to come by at other Mexican restaurants in Toronto.

The best Mexican food I’ve had! The seafood birria (instead of a regular beef birria) was phenomenal. Punchy flavours that are complex and perfectly balanced. Hokkaido scallop tiradito was fresh, sweet, and perfect mix of textures. 100% would recommend.

2025 July 4.5★ Carne Asada $8.50 One Beef taco. Grilled Beef, Asadero Cheese Onions, Cabbage, Radish, Avocado salsa, Red Salsa. Not bad, pretty good. Though nothing that I wouldn't expect. Birria marisco $28.00 Slow Cooked Seafood Biria (Fish, Shrimp, Octopus) Asadero Cheese Avocado Salsa, Pickled Onions Leche de Tigre. The leche de tigre is a lime juice base. The tacos are fried and so this combination lightens up the plate. Very good and would recommend. Wera $16.00 A creamy tostada. Octopus, Shrimp, Macha Mayonnaise, Pico-de Gallo, Guacamole. Pretty good. Good portions. A small restaurant with seating for about 16+12 patio. Overall, a bit more expensive, though it's not your typical Mexican dishes. Worth coming. Would come again.

Puerto Bravo is a great spot if you love flavorful small dishes, especially tacos. The menu offers a nice variety, and each dish feels fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The tacos are definitely the highlight—well-seasoned, with delicious fillings and fresh toppings. The atmosphere is casual and lively, making it a fun place to share plates for couples. I’ll definitely be coming back to try more dishes.

Went here recently for dinner with a few Mexican friends. We know our Mexican food. I'm generally a bit picky with seafood, unless it's super fresh. This place served super fresh, delicious Mexican seafood. I can see why this place is Michelin rated. Also, not sure where the negative reviews regarding the service are coming from. We found the service was excellent. 10/10, A++, would highly recommend.

Great neighborhood Gem on Gerrard St. East. Food very good: shrimp tostada; scallops; seafood birria tacos (with excellent broth - our favorite); beef tacos. Quick friendly service, thank you! 💎 🌹 💎 🌹 💎

Yelp
Absolutely amazing taco place - one of my favourites in the city! The tacos were fresh and tasty, and boy were they full! I tried the beef (carne asada), shrimp, and octopus/chicken - all phenomenal! Service was also fast and friendly. It's a very casual place, so don't expect fancy - but still really clean and nice. My only criticism - fairly limited selection of cocktails and beers, but they have some. Highly recommended!

Yelp
This was on the Michelin recommended guide, and they were not wrong!! This meal was delicious. Located in India town, this cozy restaurant had a quaint Mexican restaurant vibe - something you'd never expect! I ordered the Toradito de Scallops and it was fantastic...I highly recommend getting this. I also got the fish tacos which were good too. I loved how they included chips with their dip! It was a bit spicy but had a real kick to it. Overall, a great restaurant with good service. A hidden gem in Toronto!

Yelp
If you like seafood and Mexican food, then make sure you go to Puerto Bravo! There aren't too many spots in the city with this specific specialty and it reminded us of some great meals we've had on our trips to Mexico. Quick, friendly service and spectacular flavours and textures make this a solid pick.

Yelp
When a restaurant is recommended by the Michelin guide and Suresh Doss, you make your way over there post haste. And so it was that we showed up at around lunchtime on a recent Saturday. It's a small restaurant with just a few tables, but we were early enough that we snagged a table near the back. Everything on the menu sounded completely delicious, but we decided to share a few things: Guacamole ("Avocado, Lime, Cilantro, Jalapeño, Chips"): The simplest of dishes, this guacamole actually fares better than most others. The avocado flavor is really highlighted here and the homemade tortilla chips are the perfect complement. It's a generous helping that we wolfed down over the course of the meal. Wera Tostada ("Octopus, Shrimp, Macha Mayonnaise, Pico de Gallo, Avocado, Salsa Macha"): This was recommended in the Michelin write-up so obviously we had to try it. And it's absolutely incredible. All the flavors work so well together, and the octopus is cooked shockingly well. (There's nothing rubbery or tough about this octopus, that's for sure.) I loved this dish so, so much. Carne Asada Taco ("Grilled Beef, Asadero Cheese, Onions, Cabbage, Radish, Avocado Salsa, Red Salsa"): This is a pretty standard taco order that's elevated considerably by its superior ingredients. I've eaten plenty of carne asada tacos over the years and this ranks right up there with the best. I can't say enough good things about my meal at Puerto Bravo. I'll definitely be returning.

Yelp
Note: This review is for delivery, so likely wasn't as good as dining-in. Thought Puerto Bravo was pretty good though not special. Got three things: dorados de pescado, pulpo al carbon, and street corn. The pulpo was exquisite - tender and tasty. The dorados de pescado was on the blander side - would've wanted more flavour without having to resort to the dipping sauce. And the streetcorn was pretty good - lots of cheese which I appreciated. Overall pretty good. Given the praise I hear about this place, suggest dining-in versus delivery.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious - I see the reason this Mexican spot received a Michelin BIB listing! Had the octopus and shrimp tacos which were amazing (2 others in our group had the shrimp and they agreed it was the best). 2 got beef and they thought it was a bit dry but my tacos were moist, saucy, flavourful! Highly recommend.

Yelp
Awesome tacos. Service was quick and friendly. The set up is very casual. Hard to believe it's a Michelin restaurant.

Yelp
Delicious! We ate the shrimp taco, octopus taco, shrimp tostada and Dorado. Everything was amazing! The hot sauce is to die for. My favorite mexican spot in Toronto.
