When a restaurant is recommended by the Michelin guide and Suresh Doss, you make your way over there post haste.
And so it was that we showed up at around lunchtime on a recent Saturday. It's a small restaurant with just a few tables, but we were early enough that we snagged a table near the back.
Everything on the menu sounded completely delicious, but we decided to share a few things:
Guacamole ("Avocado, Lime, Cilantro, Jalapeño, Chips"): The simplest of dishes, this guacamole actually fares better than most others. The avocado flavor is really highlighted here and the homemade tortilla chips are the perfect complement. It's a generous helping that we wolfed down over the course of the meal.
Wera Tostada ("Octopus, Shrimp, Macha Mayonnaise, Pico de Gallo, Avocado, Salsa Macha"): This was recommended in the Michelin write-up so obviously we had to try it. And it's absolutely incredible. All the flavors work so well together, and the octopus is cooked shockingly well. (There's nothing rubbery or tough about this octopus, that's for sure.) I loved this dish so, so much.
Carne Asada Taco ("Grilled Beef, Asadero Cheese, Onions, Cabbage, Radish, Avocado Salsa, Red Salsa"): This is a pretty standard taco order that's elevated considerably by its superior ingredients. I've eaten plenty of carne asada tacos over the years and this ranks right up there with the best.
I can't say enough good things about my meal at Puerto Bravo. I'll definitely be returning.
