Never had a bad experience here. Great food. Great portions and value. Service is top-notch. Ownership and management have got it down. I suggest the Queso Chicken Enchillada. My brother got steak tacos. Will be back sooner than later!

My wife suggested this place. Since this place was her go to date place before we were married, I figured, why not try the food and give it a terrible review, right?? It's a small place, which I love. Decor is nice, gives off the vibe of a family owned restaurant. Immediately upon being seated, our waiter greeted us with chips and salsa. He was very friendly. The salsa was very good. Very spicy, which I love. We ordered Margaritas and 2 lunch specials. Food came out pretty quickly. Everything looked decent. My wife's dish was good. Chicken was slightly dry and under seasoned but overall was good. My shrimp was also slightly over cooked and underseasoned but delicious overall. My Margarita was huge and good. While I feel the food was a 3 out of 5 stars, the service, atmosphere and prices made the overall experience a 4 out for 5. With a tip, our 2 meals and a huge drink was only $40. When I'm in the area or out on a date without the wife, I'll be back!!

Google
The food was interesting… I was disappointed actually because it was lacking in meat in my he meals. The chips seemed stale or maybe they are just the kind that taste that way. I would like to come back and try something different and maybe I would be happy with my meal. Would I recommend? Yes if you’re wanting friendly & interesting food that may be different than Mexican you had in other states. 👍

Google
We stopped at this restaurant on the way from Montana to Massachusetts. The food was fantastic, very tasty, the guac was outstanding, the food presentations, and the service were second to none. If we lived close to one of these restaurants it would be our to go place. Sadly, they don't have one in Naples, FL, but maybe they open one soon. If we're ever back in Mitchel, SD (or Sturgis), we will definitely stop by to eat!!

Came here again, the food is still amazing my mouth has been SERVED. The staff are super kind and while the waitress forgot to take my order she was very very kind about it and our food came out so freaking fast it’s unbelievable so i appreciate you puerto vallarta because from first glance you think a restaurant parking lot being empty at 5PM means it’s poor quality but this is the best restaurant place in SOUTH DAKOTA!!! Five big booms from me! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! Chase

My best friend, my kid and I had Puerto Vallarta on 3/12/2023 and it was the best Mexican food we had in Sioux Falls. My friend had a bowl, my kid and I had burritos. The burritos are huge, the portions are a lot for the price. The food is high quality and you can taste the love they put into their business.

Yelp
Service is good and the food is standard Mexican. The thing I don't like about Puerto Vallarta is only offers Pepsi products for their soda fountain drinks (you can buy Coke products in a can but it's not the same ). They also add a fee for using a credit card. It's not that restaurants and other businesses just started paying a credit card fee, they have been paying it for years and, I assume including it in the cost they charged for their products and services. This just seems as a way to increase there prices by masking it as passing it along as a credit card fee. Additionally Sioux Falls saw a significant growth in jobs when banks brought their credit card operations to Sioux Falls. So think this additional fee is disrespectful to the customers who work or worked in the credit card industry.

Yelp
Very good food and very accommodating we called ahead and asked if we could get served because they were listed as closing in 30 min. The manager said no problem. Great burritos with fantastic guacamole on top. Standard hot sauce and excellent super hot sauce. Plenty of food and well priced not too expensive. Will definitely come back

Yelp
Food was decent and service was very fast. Was a little overpriced compared to places with better quality food

Yelp
Every time my family and I come here, the food is always great and the customer service has always been fantastic. Love their fajitas and pina coladas!

Yelp
This is the first time here for me. Being from Texas I was missing my Tex-Mex flavors and so I came here. Started with some free table side tortilla chips and hot sauce. Nice touch. Salsa was okay; not great. Good enough. Chips ok. I tried the Mole Enchilada plate with shredded chicken in it. Chicken not quite shredded but in small enough pieces. Mole sauce was way too light and not enough coverage. Dollop of sour cream was on top of Enchiladas along with refried beans and some Spanish Rice. Chicken needed a bit more flavor; more mole sauce would've helped. If it had been thicker would've made a tremendous difference. Rice had a good flavor. Refried beans were good but could've had a bit more flavor and thickness to them. A bit runny for my taste. I ate them all, though. I asked about amount of mole sauce and was told that I could have more. Maybe next time. The Enchiladas looked like a thin chocolatey sauce had been spread over them but appearance had a streak and did not have a full coverage as the plate should've had. That was the missing flavor. No, did not experience the missing Tex Mex flavors I came in for. Will be back and give them another try. Service was excellent. Daniel was my waiter.

Yelp
This is our favorite Mexican place in Sioux Falls. The food is great, the staff is friendly and they've even put up barriers between booths. We probably eat here too much!

Yelp
We have ordered carry out a bunch of times during quarantine. The food always gets prepared in a timely manner, and they always remember the chips and salsa to go with our dinners. My husband likes the queso diablo and I usually order the chicken queso enchiladas. They are okay with substitutes--one of us doesn't like refried beans. :)

Yelp
Puerto Vallarta is the best near authentic Mexican restaurant in Sioux Falls. The East 10th Street is mine and my family's favorite of the two locations. It is in an old Wendy's building but the atmosphere is all Mexican. The staff is very friendly and cheerful. The complimentary chips and salsa are served fresh and will hold you over until your food comes out, if they don't fill you up. When I come here I usually have the Beef Taco Salad, but I have also tried the Enchiladas and Taco's,. The sides and portions are big, you will not leave hungry. If you go here on your birthday, the staff will give you a free dessert and a sombrero to wear while you are in the restaurant. The Fried Ice cream taste store bought, but that doesn't mean it's not delicious. If you want more authentic Mexican food than the Bell or John's, go to Puerto Vallarta.

Yelp
We stopped here for lunch at 1:30 so we were the only two people in the entire restaurant. It took us about two minutes to be even greeted when we walked in the door. We were seated and chips and salsa were brought over right away which was a nice touch but no drinks or server ever came back for another 15 minutes! Once a waiter did come over and asked if we would like something to drink (well duh, we've been eating chips and salsa.....yes please!) we said we'd also like to place our order and he said he'd have to get the drinks first. Apparently we couldn't interrupt his process!!! Once we received our drinks, my water and my husband's soda that apparently was a complicated drink order because it took another 3 minutes came we were able to order! I ordered the special, Chicken con Pollo and my husband and one of the burritos. The food for the most part was ok. My chicken was a little on the dry, tough side, thank goodness there was sauce to choke it down with! The coleslaw that came with it was watery, and I asked for no rice so I can't rate that, and the beans were fair. My husband said his burrito was fine. I asked which burrito he got, and he said "I don't know, not that good to remember?" So whatever that means. The waiter never came back to fill our empty water or soda or to ask how the food was even!!! The only time he can back was to bring the bill! That was the first and last time visiting this restaurant!!!!

Yelp
I was a frequent customer for take out but I will no longer be dining there as they do not understand the importance of preparing food how it was ordered by the customer. If you order a dish with any modifications do not expect to get what you ordered. The wait staff will repeat your order back to you correctly and then the cook staff does not follow the order. I have received the incorrect order so many times and have wasted so much money here because they just don't care to do what is right by what the customer orders.

Dave S.

Yelp
So sad I wanted this place to be good as it is close to where I reside. Very disappointed. The food has no flavor and is over salted to make up for it. Service was good. Drinks were warm and the only thing that made them cool was the ice. Don't waste your time and certainly not your money.

Yelp
This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Sioux Falls and surrounding areas! So so good.

Yelp
Wow. This is the best Mexican restaurant that I have been in since I left California. Servings are huge and fantastic. Family owned and they know how to cook. Service is fantastic with smiling helpful staff Most items are around $10.95. Jumbo margaritas are $6.

Yelp
The food was awful. I'm originally from Puerto Vallarta Jalisco mx. And I ordered the chicken enchiladas and my chicken was not shredded I got chunks of chicken I also ordered Mexican queso fresco and they said they don't have any. All I got was American cheddar cheese that's not Mexican at all. My friend ordered luis fav. Burrito and the presentation wasn't even decent. Will not recommend and will not return they have a lot to learn about Mexican food. Ps. The only thing good was the chips and salsa and Yes the coffee.

Yelp
I eat here a couple times a month minimum. It is hands down my favorite Mexican place in Sioux Falls. The salsa is always good, the enchilada plate is delicious, the service is fast, and the staff is friendly. There is a difference between this location and the one on Louise, this one (on 10th) has always been superior in my opinion.
google avatar

Krista J.

Yelp
Love the food but it takes 10 minutes for someone to take our drink order every time we come here. Frustrating because salsa is spicy and I just need something to drink! Food is great though, the reason we keep coming back!
google avatar

Sean M.

Yelp
Food is always fantastic, the workers keep your cup full and chips that just keep coming. Never had a bad experience here once.

Yelp
There are two Puerto Vallarta restaurants in Sioux Falls. They are both intended to be consistent, like you would expect from a chain of restaurants. However, E 10th St. location is far superior to the West Side location. I have eaten at this Puerto Vallarta several times for lunch and dinner. They offer great lunch specials and are super quick so that you can be in, fed and back to work on time. The food is very tasty and traditional. This east side restaurant is small inside with a traditional Mexican restaurant feel. I have had several different meals here, but I think the enchiladas are some of my favorite. Very tasty food at reasonable prices.
google avatar

Jeff S.

Yelp
Refried beans were runny, and even for a midwestern city that has a strange propensity for bland food, this was BEYOND bland... The chicken in the burrito tasted like it was fresh out of a sink of chlorinated cold water! Chips and salsa were good though, but not paying for a full meal just to get good chips and salsa! :-(
google avatar

Laura W.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place! The food is so flavorful. The homemade enchilada sauce is great. I always have a margarita here and it is mixed perfectly. But the best part is the warm tortilla chips and salsa.
google avatar

Dewey B.

Yelp
Great food! Large portions at a reasonable price. their chips and salsa are awesome. I have never left this place hungry!
google avatar

Bill S.

Yelp
I like this place, I have eaten there several times and always gone away full. The chips and salsa are always good too. I noticed the comment that it was expensive, have you eaten at Taco Johns in last couple of years?
google avatar

Amy E.

Yelp
Great food and service always! The staff is friendly and are flexible about asking for adjustments to the order (my boyfriend gets Diablo sauce on everything). Love the chimis and enchiladas!
google avatar

Kristyn A.

Yelp
Customer service was friendly, prices agreeable, and the salsa was quite authentic! I grew up in Texas and hardly ever find salsa I like in this part of the country. This salsa had kick and fresh ingredients which means it passed my first level of judgement for all Mexican restaurants. The two dishes we ordered included fajita steak and fajita chicken - both were tasty.
google avatar

Marc J.

Yelp
I have ate at this Restaurant twice now. The first time it was pretty good. The second time it was just ok. My first trip I had the carne asada and it was good as were the chips and salsa. The second time I had steak fajitas. They were just ok. I only got three small flour tortillas on the side and that was not enough. Our chips were not good the second time. they were almost a burnt color and tasted burnt. My Girlfriend said that her strawberry daiquiri tasted like it had no alcohol in it. The waiter we had acted as if it might of been his first night. He was shy and very soft spoken and not sure what he was saying. after we got our food, he never refilled our drinks or checked on us to see how we were doing.
google avatar

Kevin K.

Yelp
Slow service, they forgot our tortillas, wine delivered in a cracked plastic glass. Atmosphere was ruined by unsupervised toddlers I think belonged to the staff having foot races in the aisles. Food was good, not real good. I will probably not return. A definite 2 cent tip.

Colby B.

Yelp
Not sure how this place has 4 stars. Service was fine, but probably the worst fajitas I have ever had. Was mostly onions and the flavor was just not good.
google avatar

Troy S.

Yelp
Only reason it's four stars is they didn't have pork chili for the burrito. Very good food other then that not Americanized Mexican food
google avatar

Cheryl T.

Yelp
Server was friendly and accommodating! Salsa was very watery, i was not a big fan...but they made up for it with their guacamole. I ordered the lunch fajitas, the portion and price was great! Didn't really care for their seasoning on the chicken but overall i was happy and full after my lunch from there!
google avatar

Nicole L.

Yelp
I like puerto Vallarta. They have good food and decent prices. They are good for casual meals or even dates. I prefer the one on 10th street and like the people who work there.
google avatar

Liz O.

Yelp
It's okay. The staff is very friendly so that is a definite plus. The chips and salsa are okay but nothing great. The food is hit or miss. Sometimes it's really good and sometimes it's not--skip the nachos, yuck. I'll go again but I'll try somewhere else first.
google avatar

Kristi B.

Yelp
Really good authentic Mexican cuisine. The staff is always helpful if you ask for descriptions on certain entrées. The owner is running just as hard as the staff to give the best service. Only thing that keeps us away is the cold weather - 10th st location is freezing in the winter, especially in the entry.
google avatar

Yvonne R.

Yelp
Good Mexican sit down restaurant. So far the best I've had in the Sioux Falls area since we've moved here. Service was fast. Food was hot and very large portions served. Reasonably priced! Will be returning.
google avatar

Grant G.

Yelp
I love Puerto Vallarta. I have a good friend from San Diego that says it's the best Mexican food in Sioux Falls and I completely agree. It is a locally owned family restaurant. Mexican food made by Mexicans who can really cook. The salsa and chips are great, the food comes very quickly and it's all priced very well. Great for a casual date or even a quick business lunch Puerto Vallarta has great foods. Check out their combo menu, it's very long, and you'll win. I haven't been there at least a dozen times and will undoubtedly be there very soon.

Daniel H.

Yelp
This is a wonderful restaurant! My family goes here often, about 1-2 times a month. The service is always wonderful and the food is fantastic.

Jocelyn L.

Yelp
Came in on a Tuesday at 2 with 4 adults and 2 babies. We were a bit crowded in the booth. No slings for baby carriers. We were seated right away. I believe the owner was our server. He was wonderful and patient and friendly. He was also super careful with the hot plates around the babies. Fresh chips and wonderful salsa. We all enjoyed our food and had a great time! Big portions and good prices.
google avatar

Yelp
Slow service combined with so-so food drops this place off of my places to eat list. The last time I visited, it was 15 minutes before anyone came to ask us what we would like to drink. 10 minutes after that, someone (not our original order taker) came and just plopped down our sodas without even asking us which one of us had ordered the diet soda (we had to find out by tasting them) Our dish arrived and we were not impressed. We only had a few bites as it was not flavorful. A man that apparently was the manager (he never did say who he was, asked me if we were enjoying our meal, when I told him that we weren't he wanted to know why. I was engaged in conversation with my guest and didn't want to to talk to him. He insisted and I told him to please leave us alone. He moved away from our table in a huff. We will never return to this so called restaurant again.

Tiffany J.

Yelp
Overview: Mediocre American style Mexican food. Our waiter seemed frustrated with us for taking our time to order. A very pleasant busser brought chips, salsa and a vinegar-based coleslaw served as a condiment to start the meal. The salsa was too mild for our taste, but the coleslaw was really good. The Entrees: I got Camarones a la Diablo which had a ton of sauce that was more of an Italian cocktail sauce in flavor. Too much sauce. My husband got spinach enchiladas that were filled and covered with cheese & sour cream. Too much toppings on both dishes. Beans tasted canned and would have liked less junk on my rice as well. Sadly I don't think we hit a place we'll return to.

Amanda S.

Yelp
I had a chicken burrito~I asked them to HOLD the cheese, sour cream, guacamole, rice, AND the sauce that came on top.... Pretty much held everything besides the beans and chicken. I then asked for lettuce. They charged me extra for the lettuce! Really?! We went with another couple, no one was impressed with service or food. Margarita was good.

Yelp
Came in tonite for an early dinner w my parents. Service was alright, nothing too exciting. Our server, Daniel was knowledgable and straightforward. My father had the Tacos & enchiladas dish, my mother had the garlic shrimp & mushroom fajitas, and I had the shrimp tacos. My parents seemed to enjoy their food & both gave it an 4/5. My shrimp tacos were mediocre. One legitimate complaint is that they were absolutely drenched in cheddar cheese. Like an entire melted layer drowning my poor lil tacos. This was a problem since I'm lactose intolerant and definitely had trouble moving all the stringy cheese to the side of the plate. To drink we had horchata... which was horrible. Honestly, it tastes like the store bought ready to mix powder horchata. You could taste the preservatives anyway... due to the mediocre food & disgusting horchata, 4 stars. Has potential... They simply need to change their horchata recipe and consider adjusting some of the dishes.

Nichole S.

Yelp
Ate here while my family was in town for the weekend. Their chips and salsa were AMAZING!! But I'd have to say I've had better Mexican food. Still not my top spot. It is very inexpensive and overall tasted good. I would recommend this restaurant.

Nick E.

Yelp
Best Mexican in town, make sure you go to the 10th street one however. Always good food no matter what you try, and it's authentic Mexican food, not Americanized like most restaurants

Jen G.

Yelp
Love the food, service and staff! They are so friendly and the food is amazing! If you want a great place to eat with amazing staff go here you won't regret it.

Jacque O.

Yelp
Food is wonderful and the staff is always welcoming and very nice!

Yelp
I found Puerto Vallarta on the east side of Sioux Falls when I first moved here 12 years ago. I have been enjoying it ever since. When they moved another one to the west side of town I was overjoyed. The food has always been good and they have the best refried beans I have ever tasted. The portions are very generous to the point of being stuffed if you decide to try to eat it all. We have never been disapointed and try to get there 5-6 times a year.
