This was a fancy Mexican chain based in Southern California. The interior was simply beautiful with pretty lighting, lush greenery, lovely marble tables. There was a classy, modern feel to the place.
Of course I ordered a Horchata and really wanted the frozen one with organic cream, but was just given the regular one. This was quite good... Icy, frothy, full of cinnamon.
My friend ordered Chicharrons, which are typically fried pork cracklings made with pork belly. However, there were served as fried, sizzling chips with some spices and lime with no pork in sight. They were pretty tasty with bold flavor, but not what was expected.
I was able to redeem a free taco, which I was thankful about because only 1 taco cost $10-17! I selected the Fried Fish taco, served on a blue corn tortilla, with shredded cabbage, guacamole, crema, as well as salsa. The Fish was beer battered, satisfyingly crunchy, light and flaky. The cabbage added a nice fresh element, and the sauces tied all the flavors together.
For the main course, my friend and I shared the Steak Arrachera ($39), which consisted of marinated skirt steak, grilled onions, chiles, cilantro, along with a side of tortillas and crispy melted cheese. The steak was cut up in bite sized pieces with onions and colorful peppers. Steak was tender with perfect char marks, delightfully well seasoned, while the veggies were cooked beautifully and tasty. The blue corn tortillas came with irresistibly melty cheese with plenty of pull. The meal was also served with herb lime rice, which was just okay.
Service was solid. Our food came out in a timely manner and we were well taken care of throughout our time. Pricing was high, and this is coming from someone who lives in New York City, one of the most expensive cities in the world! I would most likely not return, though the Short Rib Quesabirria / Filet Mignon / Carnitas Tacos and the Pumpkin Spiced Chocoflan sound good.
