Really solid burger. Good size with 2 patties. The fries are delicious as well. Really cool spot i could see it being hard to get a table when they're busy. Between the play on words to describe the food and the decor, really fun and chill spot. I am definitely coming back to try the other burgers on the menu.

Google
Our first visit to this restaurant. The staff was friendly. The service was a bit slow. We ordered the happy hour burger, and it was not that good. The meat had good flavor, but the bun was too big and cold. We also ordered the happy hour hot dog, and it was the BEST hot dog I have eaten in a long time. The fries were excellent! I noticed a charge for asshole but I didn't order this. We will be back for the hot dogs.

We tend to make a pit stop in San Antonio when traveling to and from the Hill Country and beyond…San Antonio already has a great burger culture and is now made even greater by the addition of Pumpers! Classic, well constructed burgers served alongside beef fat fries (just like the good ol’ days). There are also delicious cocktails and beverages available! You ever have a White Russian with your burger? No? I think you’re ready, get down to Pumpers and let them “love you to the max!”

Google
This is my favorite burger spot in all of San Antonio. Food is delicious. Staff is friendly and helpful. Parking can be a pain since it’s right off Broadway. But the food here is amazing. Every burger comes with 2 patties. The bun is just right, not too soft and sturdy enough to handle the burger. Fries are amazing. They’re cooked in beef fat which is how they should be done. Pumpers sets the bar high and you won’t be disappointed coming here. Also they’re open late which is very convenient.

Google
Been wandering San Antonio like a gluten-free nomad and finally found salvation in the form of Pumpers. That #2 combo? Smacked harder than childhood trauma. The meat was juicy, the bun held together like it had trust issues, and the toppings were basically a flavor orgy in my mouth. Fries came overloaded, as advertised. One bite and I felt like I got punched by a flavor clown. The “magic assholes” (aka sweet jalapeños) were… an experience. Somewhere between spicy and emotional damage. I be back

Google
Dare I say best burger in San Antonio! Pumpers did not disappoint. Service was excellent and truly was the best burger I’ve had in town. I got the pumper and it came with this special sauce that was outstanding. The vibe and atmosphere in there was really cool.

Google
First time here. It is a cute small establishment that plays amazing goth/new wave music. The employees are all nice and make sure their customers are enjoying themselves. The pumper: my husband said it was extremely delicious packed with tons of flavor. Charles JR: for me this cheeseburger was amazing. The meat is really tender and packs delicious flavors. The candied bacon cooked to perfection. The fried onion rings are crispy and a chef's kiss. Fries: my hubby liked them. They did have enough salt and are crispy. For me, they were okay. Overall the food is amazing and I suggest you give it a try if you're wondering you should. They do have a bar as well. I like that the soda are tall neck glass bottles. Definitely will try one of their hot dogs next time. Total: $48

Google
Came here after a concert and wasn't disappointed. Came in about 11:15 and was greeted warmly even though they close at midnight. Got a margarita and my fiance got a boozy rootbeer float. We both got the culo burger with fries to share. The margarita was a bit too sweet for my liking and my fiance didn't care for the RB float.. Even though that's probably about preference. The burgers were awesome and the fries were even better than McDonald's fries. The atmosphere and the service was equally amazing. Will definitely come back when we visit this side of town

Yelp
Ever wanted to pay for overpriced bland burgers served by the rudest staff since Dick's was popular? Gotcha ;p Tell my Yelp Manager I want my check mark because I'm finally back on Yelp. Savio introduced me to this quaint and fun hole in the wall where the jokes require thick skin but the food is delectable and juicy. The signs on the wall will make you feel like you just entered a comedy club as each one of the staff have their own unique personality. Michelle (Mad Dog) is interestingly funny, and oh yea.. the food. I ordered the chicken and pork and whatever else burger with the secret sauce and... I must say, I think Gordon Ramsey would mutter "not bad." Come by and try it yourself

Yelp
The place was smaller than I expected. Clean but small, and I personally do not the patience to wait when I am hungry. Although when we went, there was no wait. The bar area sits around 5 people. And then there are a couple two seater tables and I think 2 four seater tables. Not good for groups. Parking is on the street or paid parking a couple of blocks up. The food was good. I was concerned about it being a double Patty since I never order doubles but I finished all of it. They do need better quality napkins if the burgers are going to be messy. Overall it was ok.

Yelp
Burgers are my absolute favorite thing to eat, so I tend to be tough on burger joints. Pumpers has been on my "to visit" list for quite some time, and finally made it yesterday! Overall, it was okay. A couple of things I noticed right away: the place is tiny... I would not go at "peak time". I was there yesterday at 2 PM... With only a handful of other patrons. Second, I wonder how this place is ADA compliant... With the steps it takes to get into the restaurant. I even walked around the back of the building after my meal to see if there was another ADA friendly way to enter. There did not appear to be. It was my first time here, and the gentleman behind the counter taking my order was nice and friendly. He was knowledgeable about the burgers and the menu in general. They didn't have Topo Chico, though, which was a downer. I ate the Charles Junior burger and fries. The burger was large, so I felt the price point was in the right range. I momentarily wondered whether it would be unmanageable. It turned out to be the right combination of messy... Without being unmanageable and falling apart! Although I recommend you cut the burger in half... The fries were fantastic! Right out of the fryer perfectly golden... Fresh. My last two cons: napkins, and service. If you're gonna serve burgers like this, please upgrade your napkins. The napkins are very thin, and cheap feeling. I literally found myself reaching for a new napkin after every bite because the napkins practically disintegrate after just one use. Lastly, although service started strong with the gentleman behind the counter, I was only checked on once during my meal, even though I was sitting at the bar. Overall: wouldn't mind going back to try something else.

Yelp
We came here on a Tuesday for a late lunch. There is a small parking lot on the north side of the building and street parking all around the area. You order at the counter right where you walk in and they bring your food to your table. The music was a little loud, but not too bad. The restaurant was small and I bet is a madhouse on weekends. We both got the lunch specials which were burgers, fries, and a drink. I got The Pumper and my wife got the #1. The food came out quick. We loved our food, but could easily have split one meal since the burgers were so large.
google avatar

Alexis R.

Yelp
The theme of this place is absolutely hilarious, it is very hip and trendy, and definitely has loads of individuality. But when it comes to the burgers, they are amazing. Coming from someone who treats herself to a juicy burger every week on the weekends, please do yourself a favor, check this place out yourself. You will not be disappointed. I've never had such a juicy flavorful burger, and the fries were absolutely amazing. All the staff were incredibly nice and welcoming, I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Happened into Pumpers and ordered to go burgers. They were ok. Nothing to write home about. And when I asked if the fries were enough for two I was told ye but it was just a single serving. I'm glad to know it's open late because sometimes you just need some grub after drinking. But for the cost I'll head to Whataburger.

Yelp
I am a burger girl and the burgers here at Pumpers are gonna PUMP YOU UP! You will be super satisfied with service, price, amount of food, freshness, and the flexibility to chill in some cushiony booths or right up at the bar. I saw a couple of tables outside too for those late nights of coming in and hanging with friends for some great food and even a nightcap. Menu is super creative and easy to read. I love the branding behind Pumpers so much because it gives late-night reliable spot with no complaints or notes from me. My sister and I sat at the bar and service was quick. Just a heads up that you will want to front load/order all you want up front as they will go ticket by ticket or basically make you pay for your order before they put in the bill first. All good - this just made me get all the things that catch my eye when viewing their menu. In a large group and/or a rush order from the take-out side that has plenty of registers to take on each one in your group and customize each order. I would highly suggest getting the extra things that catch your appetite like their add on's like an extra patty, candied bacon, or even cheese sauce. You won't regret it. This will definitely be the forefront of winners I would select for late-night eating in SA even a spot to fill up and pre-game for any night out with friends or hanging.

Yelp
After blindly recommending this place to several friends we finally made it! I would never recommend a place we hadn't yet been to, but knowing this was a Stefan Bower's restaurant is all I needed in assurance. Hubby got the Culo Melt, looked yummy! I got the 'Last exit to pumpers' with 1 patty. It was exactly the way I would have made it if I were in the back. The mayo and mustard and cheese oozed out of the sides! The meat was crispy and so well seasoned, seriously the best burger I've had in years! The fries are very, very addicting, fried and that beef fat does wonders! Glad I finally made it in. Will definitely keep sending people and look forward to Bower's next restaurant!!! *Update- hubby reminded me I DID have this about 5 years ago when it was a food truck!! Forgot because I was probably drunk on St. Mary's... ;)~

Yelp
Pumpers is a maximalist burger experience. I ordered the #2 and didn't subtract anything because I wanted to trust the kitchen. Good call. The sauce, cheese, and pickles create overlapping waves of stimulation, while the burger patties are undeniably rich and crispy. A Pumpers burger is one of the best in town -- just pick a set of toppings to suit your mood. The fries are worth seeking out for the beef tallow richness and crispness. The staff served them piping hot and fresh. The interior is modestly sized but is already accumulating a quirky patina. Weather permitting, the outside tables offer an entertaining vista of River North sidewalk humanity.

Yelp
While out one evening when Hot Joy was closed, I stumbled upon Pumpers and was thoroughly impressed. **Pros:** - The service was incredible, fun, and friendly. - The menu was creative yet simple. - The food was unbelievable; we tried two different burgers and loved both of them. - The quality of the ingredients seemed very high. **Cons:** - The space is small and might become an issue as they grow, but it's a good problem to have. - I'd love to see a couple more mixed drinks on the menu. This place is a hidden gem and will likely become your favorite burger spot. I almost don't want too many people to discover it because it's so great!

Yelp
Found this place on Yelp and it was just amazing !! Service was great and the food was so delicious!! Got the hotdog and would definitely recommend. I will come back when I'm back in town from Houston .

Yelp
Cool new burger place in town with fantastic burgers, homemade pickles, and cool fry options. The burgers are smash burgers which are the best type of burger. The service is good. Atmosphere was very loud when I dined in. This is my second favorite burger in town!
google avatar

Yelp
Tried this place for the first time. I ordered the cheese burger which comes with 2 patties. And I had to try the French fries because they are fried in beef fat. The burger is char grilled and buns toasted. The burger was well seasoned and had great flavor. You can taste the char grilled flavor as soon as you bite into it. I would rank this burger in the top 2 of my favorite burgers in san antonio. Next I tried the French fries and they had amazing flavor. I think frying them in beef fat really made a difference. Service was fast and friendly. And the atmosphere had a cool vibe, especially the music. Definitely recommend and I'll definitely be back
google avatar

Jessica P.

Yelp
I was a little skeptical about the place since they didn't have many options but I was pleasantly surprised once I got to try the food. The meat is full of flavor and burgers are loaded. The fries have amazing flavor and def a must! I was not able to finish my meal since the portion was large. It's a great spot for lunch!

Yelp
If you haven't been to Pumpers Burgers yet, you're seriously missing out on one of the better burger experiences around! This place doesn't just serve food; they serve flavor-packed masterpieces that will leave you craving more with every bite. The Charles Jr. Burger is an absolute must-try--juicy, perfectly seasoned, and stacked high with fresh toppings that take it to the next level. But let's talk about their candied bacon--this isn't just bacon, it's a revelation. Sweet, crispy, and perfectly balanced, it adds a whole new dimension to their already incredible burgers. It comes on the Charles Jr but can be added to any. There's the Pumper Burger, which is pure indulgence, bursting with bold, smoky & sour flavors and just the right amount of messy goodness. And if you love loaded fries, their overloaded fries are next-level, piled high with toppings that make every bite better than the last. The candied a$$holes are a one-of-a-kind treat that somehow manage to be addictively delicious and come on the overloaded fries. Pumpers Burgers isn't just a meal--it's an experience. If you love big flavors, bold creations, and food that pushes the limits of deliciousness, get yourself to Pumpers ASAP! I don't normally include a picture of a restroom but the wallpaper cracked me up and was perfect.

Yelp
Went on a mini food tour in the area. Split the culo melt. It was spicy and a little sweet.Everything down to the bun was great.Homemade even.We sat at the bar and they took our order.they have happy hour every day 2-6 food and drinks.after 9 pm it's 21 and up. I remember this place when it was still in a trailer. It's nice to see how much it's grown. It definitely is an adult hamburger joint, down to what's playing on Tv. So don't get upset they warned you!
google avatar

Carree W.

Yelp
Our first time and I enjoyed the burger and fries! I'm not a big burger person, but my daughter loves burgers so we had to try this spot and I actually finished it! Service was good - no complaints! Cute little shop but we took our order to go. Overall, we enjoyed it and will be back.
google avatar

Larissa C.

Yelp
I was amazed how much I liked the food here! Plus the staff was super friendly. I work near by and my co-worker suggested we eat here. So we walked the 4 blocks and worked up an appetite. I got the Culo Melt combo and Ohhhh Maaaaah God! It was THD most tastiest burger I have EVER had! The aioli was sooo yummy I was scooping the dripping off my plate with my fries! Word of caution.. this burger WILL get all over the place. But that's the beauty of it. If it doesn't get all over the place, it doesn't belong in your face. I am definitely coming back to have my family try it!
google avatar

Victoria N.

Yelp
I am a bartender here in town at a hotel & I recommend this restaurant to everyone who asks me "where should I get a burger". This is the best burger joint in SATX no doubt! The inside is quaint and has a vibe like you're sitting inside of a bobs burgers tv set.
google avatar

Melody M.

Yelp
The food is delicious and totally "sharing" size if you're on ozempic or wutevs. The #2 with a LoneStar Super fun location, too
google avatar

R B.

Yelp
I've eaten lunch here 3 or 4 times now. The burgers are incredible. The beef fat fries are salty and sweet at the same time, adding just the right touch to the juicy burgers. The sour sauce is drinkable. The buns are as soft as pillows and the beef is seasoned to perfection. Wash it all down with a Mexican coke and what more could you ask for from a great little downtown lunch spot.
google avatar

Dontal J.

Yelp
Best burger in the world! I came for army training and I read online this place had the best burger in the city. I can vouch that it is AMAZING! I brought my army buddies and they agreed that the burgers here are top notch. I made my wife jealous with my pictures. It was so good I came back three days in a row and I am NOT ASHAMED!
google avatar

Yelp
I saw a review for this place on TikTok and wanted to try it. Decided to come by after work. After looking at the menu online I was excited to try the Charles' jr burger, but when I got there they only were offering a very limited menu (plain double cheeseburger, plain hotdog, and fries with add your own toppings). Apparently it wasn't officially open yet. The music was extremely loud to the point staff had to use a megaphone to call out the orders. The burger was still pretty good. I'd be interested in going back after it's officially open to try the real burgers.

Yelp
This place is like if your backyard grill had a baby with a five-star diner and raised it on a steady diet of ballpark meat missiles, flavor frisbees and were babysat by the "Chili Queens" of the 1800's! First off, to me, the star of this establishment are the Hot Dogs! I ordered the chili cheese dog and the first bite was nostalgic. The chili tasted as if it came off Charles Goodnight's personal chuck wagon! It was absolutely delicious! Ordering one is not doing it justice, do yourself a favor and order three of those bad boys. Now let's talk hamburgers--Pumpers doesn't just make burgers, they manifest them. These beefy beauties are grilled to perfection, stacked like a dream, and somehow manage to be both nostalgic and gourmet at the same time. You'll be halfway through your first bite before you realize you've moaned out loud in public. I thought my son dropped his burger before I realized he woofed it down faster than a jackrabbit on espresso! I don't know what these kids nowadays would call the vibe there but it was friendly and inviting. It's a nice place to hangout especially if you live in the area. Final verdict: Pumpers doesn't just serve food--they serve flavor nostalgia.
google avatar

Jonny C.

Yelp
I got the culo melter and it was great. A little messy but well worth it. It has a double patty with candied jalapeños and a secret sauce that reminded me of in and outs. Thousand island dressing esque. It had a diner kinda vibe on the inside with an alt or punk rock twist there is also pet friendly outdoor seating too!
google avatar

Jen A.

Yelp
Must try the chilli cheese and crispy dog! Full of flavors!!! Burgers slap too!! Please get the fries . Thin and crispy with side of cheese dip!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Buttery buns gave me fanny flutters. Epic atmosphere, great service! 8/10 burger will be coming here again

Got the BBQ burger and felt it was missing something but still goo will update with other burgers but got for a burger with lettecue !!! trust !! and the fries are to die for. SO SALTY I LUV !!
google avatar

Citgo G.

Yelp
The burgers here are amazing! The flavor you get from the flame grill is great. Think of a super gourmet and wayyy better Burger King. Seasoned to perfection and the buns they use are godly, soft and buttery goodness that melts in your mouth. They have a lot of cool toppings you can add also. My friends enjoy the candied jalapeños (magic assholes). Fries and fries in beef tallow and you can taste the difference. Perfect crunch and have good flavor with little to no seasoning. The rainbow sprinkle sugar cookies is bomb. They serve warmed up for desert. It tastes like a birthday cake. It's really good. I've only had the waffle one time, I wouldn't order it again. It was really dense almost like a biscuit. I was expecting it to be light and airy like a desert but it was almost hard to bite. I'd recommend anyone to come here and try the burger and fries. Cannot go wrong and your taste buds deserve to enjoy this at least once!

Yelp
Pumpers is delicious. I have been quite a few times since they opened and continue to tel friends to go. They make hearty burgers at a reasonable price. Most of their burgers come with 2 Pattie's you can always tell them you want one. The fries are addicting, let me tell you they are fried in beef fat and will have you gobbling them down like it's the last fry on earth. They look very simple but the flavor is good. The hotdogs there are so good. They are fried in beef fat as well and they have the perfect snap with the blend of condiments they have on them. Yum yum. A months ago they had the a chili cheese special for the fries, hotdogs, and burger...phenomenal. That chili was a banger I can't wait till they bring it back again. The Charles Jr burger is so good. It's an exact replica of Carls Jr Western Bacon Cheeseburger. Get the Charles Jr you won't be disappointed. Be aware there is not much seating in the restaurant but please don't let that stop you from going. Get it to go. Staff is nice and restaurant is very clean. Go check this place out. Pay for parking due what you got to do to get here. Is goooood!

Yelp
This place was small, but mighty! The place maybe only sits 20 people between 7 tables and a bar top. We sat at the bar and it was nice. Because it was so small, we got impeccable service! The first bite we took was of our "Ripper". It is described as a grilled Akaushi Beef Hotdog that is fried in beef fat. We got the El Pantera Ripper- which was topped with cheese sauce, charred cumin-honey mustard and candied jalapeños (which they call "magic assholes"...great name!). It was really good! However, we felt the hot dog was a little overdone and more tough than we would have liked. A dog that had a snap to it would have been preferable. The toppings however were a wonderful mix of flavors, with the sweet and spicy magic assholes as the finishing touch. Next up was the burger- we saved the best for last as it was freaking delicious!!! All their burgers are two 3.2oz patties made with brisket and chuck. Our burger was called the Charles Jr. Ot was topped with American cheese, candied bacon, fried onions, and a charred cumin bbq sauce. It was incredibly delicious. Again the flavor profiles that you experience in the single bite made each bite an experience leaving you wanting another bite...and another. The fried onions and the candied bacon were such unique flavors and textures on a patties that had a nice crust, with a tender pink center. Finally a nice tick pickle on the bottom which added a cold snap to the end of the bite that finished it off nicely. Wonderful dining experience!

Yelp
Pumpers gave me the vibe of a local burger spot that has been around for decades. Between the curated decor, the amazing customer service and the primo food I will definitely be back. What impressed me was the care of them brining out a water bowl for my dog. Thank you Pumpers!!
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
Burgers were very good fries were crispy and service was good. Kind of hard to find but once you find it the space isn't too big inside but a cool vibe.
google avatar

Eva R.

Yelp
You must visit Pumpers Burgers. Their Pumper burger and Culo Melt are super good!! The place is small, but definitely a vibe and good time! They do have some outdoor seating, perfect for this coming weather in Spring!
google avatar

Dayna D.

Yelp
These are the best hamburgers I've had and as long as I can remember, what makes them stand apart is their delicious sauces. The fries were also delicious. I would recommend one order of fries per person, not splitting one basket between two people because you'll want all of them. The place was so much fun to look at everything was designed so amazingly we loved it and will be back again.
google avatar

Brittany B.

Yelp
Loved everything about this place. Seen it on tik tok and decided to give it a try. Service is amazing and staff is friendly. Inside is fairly small but food and atmosphere make up for it. Definitely will be returning. 5 stars all the way
google avatar

Lindsay B.

Yelp
There is a vibrant energy of comfort upon walking in. As if it had been built around a backyard get together of friends and neighbors. Bauhaus lilts from the speakers as Taxi Driver plays silently above the bar. As you order you can't help but hear the burgers sing their sweet sizzle from the open grill; dutifully tended by their cook. The menu is straightforward. Each offering quite unique from the other yet familiar in that they are not over crafted with needless additions. I chose the Last Exit (To Pumpers) and a water. The burger was as much a treat as the environment that made it. Two hot full flavored patties dripping with the right amount of cheese topped with chilled lettuce, tomato, onion, and zesty pickle slices. That juxtaposition of sizzle and cool makes each bite as good as the first. A welcome relief from so many places that serve warm veggies on tepid meat. You will leave conflicted. Keep it a secret or spill it to all. I've made my choice. In the end a good thing is always worth the wait. Who am I to gate-keep greatness.
google avatar

Dave C.

Yelp
A good idea, but soft execution. The burgers were tasty, but a bit too sloppy. The art style they adopted is a bit amateurish and the food is likewise mid. I wanted to like it more than I did.
google avatar

Cecelia L.

Yelp
Food is amazingly delicious!!! I've been twice now within a month and it hit just as good the second time! I only ordered the chicken sandwich but have also tried their fries, which are very fresh and the Nutella Belgian waffle, it was very rich in taste but delicious! Place has limited seating inside with two outside tables and food comes out reasonably fast
google avatar

Miguel E.

Yelp
I visited with a friend and ordered the #2 with Overloaded Fries and a Culo Melt. While the food had potential, we both agreed the burgers were overhyped. Personally, I found them just okay. My burger bun was slightly burned, and the burnt edges overpowered the flavors of the sauce and other ingredients. As for the Overloaded Fries, they weren't as 'overloaded' as the name suggests. That said, the service and ambiance were excellent. This review is purely based on taste and expectations--unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to the hype for me.
google avatar

Paul F.

Yelp
The food was good The burger was off the chain. The service was amazing and quick, and the scenery was really nice.

Santiago M.

Yelp
I updated my review from 5 stars to 4 stars because I just realized you cannot actually talk to the restaurant over the phone to confirm they are serving regular menu items. If they change that, or confirm that they will never have repeat pop up/restricted menu availability day, I will upgrade my review to the otherwise much deserved 5 stars. Their food is great, just proceed with caution to avoid great disappointment.
google avatar

Jake B.

Yelp
Didn't know what to expect given the sign saying "adult burger store". My burger was so good, the non-aesthetically pleasing picture doesn't do it justice. Service was pretty good, even the cook came out to check on us. Cool vibe but limited seating. Nice joint to hit for anyone visiting San Antonio.
google avatar

Nancy R.

Yelp
Pumpers has become my favorite burger place in SA. Don't pass on the Charles Jr or the Bushwacker to understand what they have to offer aside from the specialty menus here and there. Follow them on social media and you will see special events to come as well as a home of some of the most beautiful people too. Stop by and you will find a one of a kind culinary experience from Chef Stefan Bowers! You will enjoy every last bit of morsel....

Xiomara M.

Yelp
Small place but burger were really good. Creative concept with the cones for your order number! Friendly staff

Jason R.

Yelp
Cool little place if you're just looking for a good burger. Small place, no frills but the food was good. Overall the burgers and fries were really good and service was friendly. Nothing fancy, just a good burger joint.

Hannah B.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious. Our group tried three different burgers and we loved them all. Great gluten free buns too!

Brian M.

Yelp
We tried four different burgers and the fries. They were all ok but order with less sauce as it overwhelmed each selection. The fries tasted and looked like bag fries which was disappointing. All patties were burned on the edges which made some bites taste like charcoal. An interesting downtown experience for people watching.

Alexandra P.

Yelp
These burgers are loaded with toppings, soft buns and very flavorful. The fries were a little too salty for my liking but other than that we had a good experience. The staff was great! It's a smaller place with limited seating so be prepared to wait for an open table or order to go. I love that there was outdoor seating available, which is perfect for warmer weather. Location is very popular so parking can be a headache on a busy weekend.
