Came here last night with a small group. Nice mid-size restaurant with cool murals on the wall, overall nice atmosphere. We ordered a few drinks - the raspberry and blackberry margaritas were pretty flat in my opinion, the cucumber one however was delicious. The food was also very just okay. We had the smith fries, the burrito (MASSIVE portion) the napoli salad, the fajitas elote and the durados tacos. Personally I’ve had better Mexican food with more flavor so not sure that I would return.

My enchiladas were spectacular and my partner's fajitas were delicious. Good chips and excellent salsa too. It's rare to find a noteworthy salsa

**3.5 Stars** We came here for a quick snack before ending our day. We picked this Mexican spot because we were craving nachos and this place got some really good reviews. Upon arrival, the restaurant was mostly empty. There was one big group sitting outside drinking. We decided to sit indoors and asked if they had AC. The bartender who was also the only person there decided to put on the AC because it was really hot indoors. The restaurant had nice eclectic decor and ample seating. My friends decided that they wanted to have a few drinks. We asked if they had any happy hour specials and we were told no. One group came in and immediately left when they found out that there weren't any happy hour specials. Charsu got a Blackberry margarita ($14) and Farabe got a regular one ($12). They were disappointed that they used a cheap house tequila and that the taste didn't match the price. I ordered a Mexican coke which was cold and refreshing. Each table gets one free basket of chips and salsa. The chips were fresh and tasty. It had a nice salty crisp to it. I thought the salsa was also very tasty and fresh. I ordered a plate of chicken nachos ($13) and it was so delicious and filling. The chicken was cooked well and was flavorful. I liked that every chip got some kind of topping or sauce. Farabe ordered steak enchiladas Roja ($14.50). When their order arrived, the server bought out the wrong dish. He said that's what we ordered but, we insisted that he got it wrong. He took Farabe's order back and bought out the correct one. Farabe thought the dish was delicious (but, needed a bit more sauce) and the steak was tender. Overall, the food was delicious and filling but, the drinks and service were lackluster.

Really solid Mexican food, in the opinion of someone who has never been to Mexico. Everything was fresh and had lots of flavor. Can't wait to order again!

Purepecha is a Brooklyn neighborhood gem. After having tried authentic Mexican cuisine all over the globe, this place rate amongst the best. The quesadillas camarones are filled with large succulent shrimp and the tacos are of freshest ingredients with spices that make your tongue dance. The shredded chicken is tender with a consistent bite and flavorful burst of chipotle.

Got some carnitas tacos and a margarita here. It's a hip place. Good margs, good tacos, good service. Nice music. Nothing blew me away but I will probably return seeing as it's in my neighborhood.

Food: The food is delicious here! The Shrimp Fajitas and the Crispy Bowl Salad were both excellent. The shrimp in the salad was a bit dry but the salad itself, dressing, and cheese were perfect. The bottom of the crispy bowl does get soggy from the salad and other ingredients, and the crispy bowl itself is overall just okay. Service: Service is wonderful. Staff is attentive and came back to check on us occasionally to see if we needed anything. Ambiance: Good for both small and large groups. Restaurant is small and cozy. Overall, I would recommend this place!

Wonderful food at a low price. I had the enchiladas placeras, which are basically like enchiladas but fried in salsa instead of baked. It's not a very common menu item, so it was nice to see it here. The salsa was flavourful and the filling was rich. I also split the molcajete guacamole with some friends - the portion was a bit small for four, but the flavor was good. I'll have to come back sometime to try some of the other options.

Such a cute whole in the wall restaurant in Brooklyn with great food at affordable prices. Came here for a late lunch and it did not miss! My boyfriend got the al pastor tacos and thoroughly enjoyed himself. I got the enchiladas suizas with cheese and loved it! I also appreciated the hearty serving of rice and beans with my enchiladas. Overall, this is a great place to stop by for some authentic (and affordable!) mexican food if in the area :)

Came here on a Saturday night around 945 and we were seated immediately. The BEST tacos I've had in a while, and incredible margaritas (surprisingly strong while still tasting delicious!) Our waitresses and the bartender were incredibly nice. Will definitely be back here asap!!!!

Had the vegan burrito and vegetarian burrito as bowls along with Modelo and Modelo Negro. The bar looked super chill from the outside and we prefer that over packed ones. The nopales and the corn were great and very filling. You can easily get two meals out of one burrito if you're not coming off a fast. Came with chips and salsa, which I totally overlooked when I ordered the fries. The fries were good though. Overall it was a nice joint. Loved the lit liquor shelf...it was lit.

The food was average. The server asked me fried or soft but never mentioned it was about the taco shells. My overall experience wasn't good and unfortunately it was bad enough I'll never try them again.

The nachos were the absolute star of the show! Writing this is making me crave it so bad. Anyway our main dish arrived and it was good but we couldn't stop talking abt those nachos!

My partner and I came for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The service was friendly and good (but not rushed!). We first ordered the queso fundido and our drinks. The queso was a delicious blend of cheeses made in a skillet, and I really enjoyed my spicy margarita. It had more kick to it than I thought! We then ordered the Mar Y Tierra platter and Smith St fries. We ordered the fries with the refried beans on the side (I'm typically not a huge fan), but I will say the refried beans here were actually really good- they had a very smoky onion-y flavor! The Mar Y Tierra platter was a very generous portion for $20 and we enjoyed both the steak and the shrimp. They also give you free salsa and chips with your meal! They served this to us at the same time as our queso and we liked the queso a lot more than the salsa, so we just used the chips for the queso (though the tortillas they gave with it were also good!). Would definitely recommend each menu item we got.

I went back and tried the Enchiladas Placeras Platter and now I can see much more why people love this place. This dish consisting of, "3 red semi-fried tortillas in our grandmas red special sauce, filled with tinga or refried beans, topped with lettuce, tomato sauce and Cotija cheese," is outstanding and very much worth it for $13. The Tinga Tostadas are also good. Was also a fan of the Mezcalita. I guess when inside a Michoacán restaurant, order Michoacán food (who would have thought.) Will be back again likely to try the tacos Michoacán as I haven't had a good version in a while.

We came here around 7:30pm on a Sunday night and were seated immediately. The place was pretty empty which was quite shocking given the food was incredible. They give you free chips & salsa to start which is rare for most places. The chicken tinga tacos were perfectly flavored, so filling & satisfying. The fajitas also were solid with all the fillings for the tortillas and extra sauces they brought us. We were both so full at the end. The waiters were so attentive but not rushing in any way. Overall the energy was nice and relaxed. Definitely will be going back to try other things there or get the chicken tinga tacos again because they were so good!!

Food is authentic Mexican Food! I ordered the chips , queso & Elote for starters . The queso Purepecha makes is what queso is supposed to taste like & the chips are real corn tortillas... so delicious! The elote was remarkable, not too much cojita or chili pepper . For entrees I got the Bandera Mexicana burrito , it will definitely satisfy your burrito craving ( it's smothered in sauce fyi) . My friend ordered the steak & fajita tacos , he loved them . The service was Amazing to say the least . We were well taken care of . The decor of the place was cozy and cute . Low lighting . Overall love this place and will be ordering from here again !

I went on a quiet Thursday afternoon. I was the only person there and the server/bartender/do it all woman was welcoming and friendly. The food came super fast, was a great portion and tasty! I also enjoyed the margarita!

So glad we stumbled upon this place for last minute dinner plans! It's going to be our go-to spot for when we're craving some well priced classic, simple Mexican fare. We got the bandera mexicana burrito and enchilada suizas - both were so flavorful and hit the spot. The refried beans were some of the best I've had, which was a nice surprise as I typically don't notice a lot of variation. They also give free homemade chips and salsa, which is always a nice bonus and they were equally delicious/fresh!

Wandered in one random Tuesday night for some post climbing food with M.Y., N.S, S.R, and T.H.. We ordered a smattering of dishes, chorizo tacos, fish tacos, al pastor nachos, and a burrito for good measure. The tortillas were handmade and the chips were made from the same stock. The fish was crispy and accompanied by a quick slaw which maybe could have used more lime but was still a good fish taco. The al pastor nachos were warm and delicious but didn't come with much in the way of vegetables. They did allow me to add on some extra lettuce which added some freshness and crunch. So why 4 stars? Good straight up tex-mex all around. I wished for brighter flavors but maybe my taste buds were just too cold from the walk over?

I take out here regularly as it is a solid Mexican place near me. In terms of price it is decent as I can always have enough for two meals! I have only tried the tierra y mar as I am a sucker for a good surf and turf. Also perk if you dine in is that you get free chips and salsa!

Was craving some Mexican and wanted to try out somewhere I haven't been. Me and a friend walked by Purepecha and decided to give it a try and I'm so glad we did. We felt welcomed by the staff as soon as we walked in. The ambiance is very cute and they have a pretty large menu. We both got margaritas - I got the classic and my friend got the raspberry cadillac margarita which she said was really good. First order of chips and salsa was free and they were really good. I ordered the chicken quesadilla which came with guac and pico de gallo. My friend ordered the shrimp fajitas which were a pretty big portion. We both loved our meals and the service was great. Might be hard to miss with the scaffolding outside but definitely worth a try. I will be returning for sure in the future.

People are super nice but decor is meh. I only had salad, chips and salsa so Dont know how cooked foods are but what I had was good but not great

Love this place! I really appreciate how they are open pretty late even on weekdays. If I want to have a fun night out with out of town visitors, we usually stop at Congress bar for a few rounds of cocktails and then hit up this place for yummy tacos and burritos. Added bonus is they have an extensive margarita menu, and pitcher options! First time I was here I was recommended by the server (when asked what he would eat after work here), the birria tacos. They were so good. I didn't even get the extra cost consumme on the side. Personally, I don't really like the dipping sauce anyways so I didn't feel like opting out of it changed how great the dish was. They also have varying spice levels of salsa you can ask on the side. Careful with the red one, it was spicier than I thought. My friends gravitate toward the brooklyn burritos and they are massive! It's a good sign when all of them ate them in entirety, they really enjoyed them. I also liked the refreshing cucumber margarita, but it unfortunately doesn't come in the pitcher format. Overall, solid place to get delicious mexican food especially late night. I will continue to stop by for date nights or when I have visitors around!

Hidden gem! We got these veggie tacos with avocados and huevos and also a veggie tostada to share. There are a lot more veggie options than I expected which was great, and the service here was so amazing. The waiter was so attentive to us and gave us thoughtful recommendations for food and drinks. Definitely want to come back again!

So glad this place opened in the neighborhood, as we've been in need of some good Mexican. I have to admit that when this place opened I wasn't rushing to try it out, in no small part due the plethora of subpar eateries that have opened in the neighborhood that have folded after short, unsuccessful stints...and also due to becoming attached to businesses I really like, only to find them closing shop (probably due to exorbitant rent prices). It really is a tricky time for restaurants/bars in the Boerum Hill/Cobble Hill area, but I digress...anyhow, I came to this place after the glowing review from Robert Sietsema in Eater mag, and have to say I agree with him. For those who have been to the old Broccolino which used to occupy the space, you'll notice it's pretty much the same layout, with the bar at the front with seating at the back. Walking in, first thing that hit me was the wonderful smell of warm tortillas. Was welcomed to a table in the back and offered a lunch special menu. Lunch menu looked good, but the prices were so affordable on the regular menu, just went ahead and ordered from there. The meal started with a pleasant surprise with complimentary salsa and chips (seems commonplace in Mexican restaurants outside of NYC, but more rare here). I got the carnitas Mihoacan and my dining partner got the enchiladas placeras. The carnitas tacos were some of the best tacos I have had in a while - wonderfully seasoned shredded pork, oozing in its own grease, just the right amount of salt, with richness that coats every part of your mouth each bite. The creamy salsa verde that comes on the side is the perfect complement. My partner seemed to like the enchiladas as well, although I did not get a chance to taste. The prices are so ridiculously affordable too. For those looking for some quality Mexican food to add to your regular rotation in the neighborhood, highly recommend this place. I wish Purepecha well, and hope they will have success for years to come - I know I'll be doing my part by coming back as much as possible!

My friend and I were craving Mexican food and when we came across perpetua it was the only choice. Anywhere themselves red enchiladas that look that good, I'm gonna visit. We ended up going as a trio and being quickly seated in our seat of choice in the front of the restaurant. The guy was nice enough to charm on the air, it was kind of a hot day. We asked if there was happy hour and sadly it was not. Drinks were somewhere between $8 and $16, margaritas $12 and up. For the neighborhood and time of day, we thought was a bit steep, but, hey live it up. We ordered nacos and steak enchiladas rojas. The server brought out a basket of tasty chips and salsa. I wonder if that is in place to offset the drink prices? Hmmm. The margaritas came out quickly and the were in rocks glasses! Like the ones for happy hour well drinks are in and I was peeved. I asked the type of tequila and it was some random house liquor! What?$12 for a tiny, cheaply made margarita? Absolutely not. My friend had the blackberry margarita and she said it was just OK. Note to self.... no drinks here. The food came and my enchiladas were green? Then the guy told me I wanted suiza.... we all heard my order. He politely took it back and had it remade. Once it came, everything was pretty good, the beef was so tender and delicious. I wish there was more enchilada sauce, but I know for the next time.

This place is fantastic! I ordered the nachos today and I am so happy I did. This may be the best nachos I have ever had! Chips taste great, wonderful crunch. I like that I was able to choose the beans, the black beans have great flavor. The cheese was beautifully melted. The carnitas...wow...great seasoning and generous amount. I appreciate that they give you the pico de gallo, sour cream, guacamole and salsa verde on the side, avoids nachos from becoming a soggy mess. Looking forward to trying out the rest of the menu!

Two words " TRY THEM". Try the al pastor Tacos, Blackberry Margarita and the Queso dip w/chorizo! They never, evaaaaaaa disappoint. The al pastor tacos, they are always rich in flavor, fresh and flavorful. Whether you order to-go or have them there, they are just as delish! My favorite, in Cobble Hill/Carroll Garden area. We are repeat offenders of the Al pastor tacos here #Guilty‍ The service here is amazing, I never had any issues and we've been coming here since they opened. Would highly recommend.

unfortunately thanks to Cuomo, you have to order food with your drinks. But if you're reading this in the future when that is no longer the law, ORDER THE TAMARINDO MARGARITA. it is the perfect balance of salty and sweet and just YUM. every time I come to Purepecha I get at least three. woooooo. I also got the nachos with carnitas and honestly have no complaints. they loaded on the meat and layered the toppings like a pro. NO UNTOPPED CHIPS! v important in my book. service was a little slow but it was busy and there were only two people working so no big deal! all in all great dining experience. will definitely come back again for those tamarindo margaritas!

This place is good. Not the best ever, especially in an area that's increasing with the Mexican and Latin American fare, but they do hold their own. As for price, they are in the middle. Not as pricey as Leyenda and not as cheap as Buddy's, but I do think those two places are better in taste. Regardless, with a record number of businesses folding, this place still has a packed area (at least on Friday nights) for outdoor dining and I do wish them well to emerge out fine on the other side of this pandemic!

They offer covered outdoor seating with the tables properly spaced apart. We ordered mojitos, the street corn and shrimp tacos. I had a regular mojito and a passion fruit one. The regular one was definitely better. The passion fruit tasted more like OJ. The corn was good. The shrimp tacos were very basic. Lettuce, tomato and grilled shrimp. There May have been some type of sauce on it, but it was very light and I could barely taste it. I tasted the grilled shrimp more than anything. Not a bad experience. It was nice to get out after work but the tacos (that I've been craving all quarantine) could've been better.

Purepecha is the latest one I've tried, and they are probably my favorite of the bunch. Ordered for pickup, and they were right on time (snuck in right before closing too). I got the fish burrito with refried beans. It was SO GOOD. The fish is fresh and crispy. It's loaded with rice and veggies. The salsa verde that came with it was actually amazing. The red sauce was good too. And the best surprise - it came with a side of chips and salsa! The salsa was watery but serviceable, but there were a ton of chips! I wish they would do half/half meat, but that's a very minuscule complaint.

This place is still very delicious! I haven't came since before the beginning of COVID. Purepecha has quite a few tables out for outdoor seating. We came for brunch on Saturday and was able to get seats right away (around 12:30/1pm). I ordered the bandera burrito with al pastor. The burrito is quite large. The al pastor inside was perfectly seasoned! It was juicy and so flavorful. The sauces on top of the burritos were equally delicious. We requested hot sauce and the server provided us a green sauce and an orange/red sauce. The orange/red hot sauce was, in my opinion, not too spicy, but had just the right amount of heat. I'm so glad we came here again!

What an excellent place! I haven't tried this place yet because their are so many KNOWN Mexican Restaurants on smith Street. But I went tonight (Tuesday night) and just about every table was taken. They have HAPPY HOUR 4-10pm which is too large of a window I'd say from a business point of view, but also very limited menu for happy hour drinks. I'd suggest more drinks on your slower days (Monday-Wednesday) to get more people coming in. The food was AUTHENTIC MEXICAN CUISINE. food was fresh, hot, and clearly everything was homemade. Even the tortillas. GREAT FRIENDLY STAFF too! Daniela was so kind and the other gentleman working. Overall great place to go. Although food is A+ and speaks for itself, They need to figure out how to stand out on smith street a little more in order to make a name for themselves. Maybe some live music to reel people in? Fancy large drink in a bowl for two people? Prefix menu Monday-Thursday? Try some new things to get some regulars flowing in

Takeout review, Apocalypse 2020. So... we have been consistently ordering out from a variety of local establishments over the last several months. Whoopee... I can hardly contain my joy. Enter the quarantine... where every day is Taco Tuesday! Anyway, this Cobble Hill Mexican restaurant was on my radar after Eater gave this spot a rave review circa Winter 2019. We've ordered everything from the delicious fajitas (shrimp & steak), to the chips and salsa, guacamole, and burritos (including their signature oversized califas style burrito). Without further ado, here's a quick rundown of our dining experience. Ambiance (apartment) - not great, could use improvement. Would benefit from variety. Food - mostly great, guacamole could use improvement. The homemade chips are fantastic. Re: the guacamole, the default choice is ready-made (yuck). It cost extra for freshly-made, which defeats the purpose and is not worth it in my opinion. I do highly recommend the fajitas. The portion sizes are generous and the food travels surprisingly well by delivery. The burritos are also an excellent choice and I'm partial to the skirt steak (+$5 add-on) done califas style (+$3 add-on). Bottom line - if you're looking for a good option for Mexican takeout in a neighborhood devoid of quality Mexican offerings, I strongly recommend Purepecha.

There are not many great tacos places in Brooklyn Heights / cobble hill / carrol gardens, so this place is easily the best taco spot we have found so far. We got the carnitas, which is really good, on par with other great taco places. The shrimp tacos were also really good. The biria tacos were just ok, I would not get them again (it could be that you need to eat them right away and we got them for takeout). There are some others I want to try again, but in general this is a great spot, reasonably priced as well. Just wish you could order individual tacos - instead of the 3 per order.

I've ordered from Purepecha a few times now and I can honestly say they have some of the best tacos I've had in the area. I've tried their carnitas tacos, the fish tacos, and the carne asada tacos, and they are all delicious. I moved here from San Diego and it's been hard to find good Mexican food out here which is why I'm soooo happy I finally found this spot. They also have really delicious salsa! The only thing I will say is that the food can be a liiiiittle salty sometimes. The flavors are on point but if you have high blood pressure or are trying to avoid salt for any reason then this may not be the spot for you, but other than that the food is truly delicious! I will definitely be a repeat customer

A new place on Smith Street with a beautiful interior, really attentive staff, and amazing food. A MUST for something delicious but also great for a quick date night (although the good amount of food might put you to sleep in a great way). Coming into the place at night, it has a moderate noise level and dim ambient lighting that makes it great for conversation with your partner or a GNO. There is nothing I like more than being able to talk and hear people in a restaurant! Upon looking at the menu, there was a good variety of dishes and appetizers that may catch your eye. We immediately wanted to grab an appetizer and some drinks to start off, and the nachos are probably the best I've ever had at ANY establishment. Where most places have greasy tortilla chips and semi-warmed toppings, these nachos were crisp, flavorful, and since we got steak, hearty. We scrapped up everything. My bf got a platter, while I got a vegan burrito with nopales (cactus). Everything was excellent. The nopales were grilled with a smoky charcoal flavor, and each of the ingredients were perfectly seasoned! Not gonna lie, I would just eat their rice & beans alone. Overall, had a great experience and would most definitely come back! 10/10, would recommend.

Very relaxed setting and delicious food. I got the nachos with steak and couldn't wait for my main entrée. I also got the steak fajitas and they were delicious too! When I'm back in Brooklyn I will come back here!

Great quick meal. Enchiladas are the bomb and the Spicy Margaritas are tame but tasty. Not bad at all.

The restaurant is in a nice location and the atmosphere is nice. My husband ordered a margarita but they then realized they were out of ice so they sent a worker to go buy more. So he waited about 20 minutes for his drink but they very friendly and apologetic about it. They serve you one basket of free chips and salsa and the chips were obviously old. We both got burritos with grilled chicken. They were decent in my opinion but not as good as I was hoping for. Overall, this is a decent place to grab a bite to eat.

Ordered online when they appeared as a new listing for tacos in my area. A little less expensive than other spots nearby but also with fewer frills and smaller portion size so I guess everything's proportional. The al pastor tacos were a little lacking on the pineapple but otherwise pretty tasty. Delivery came in half an hour, under their estimated 40-60 minute window. Simple, delicious, what else could you ask for?

Solid authentic restaurant. I was by the area visiting friends and I stumbled upon this restaurant for dinner. I order the steak quesadilla along with the guac and chips. Steak quesadilla was juiced and full of flavor. They are generous with the guac and chips. I would recommend and come back when I'm craving Mexican food again

Walked in at 6:30 with my family of 4. Restaurant was at 30% capacity. Yet they couldn't figure out a table for 4 that was not at the bar or outside (chilly evening). Showed absolutely no interest in keeping customers or knowledge in running a restaurant.

Ordered for pickup and Im so glad I came across this place. Pretty picky with my latin food. The chicken fajitas were fire. Not so big on corn tortilla but even that tasted good.

This place serves amazing food & margaritas the owner makes is so good lol The owner is super nice and he said he wants to make sure he serves food like he does for his family and I'm glad he opened this place and decided to share his love.
