The 10 Best Tiki Bars In LA - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Purple Orchid in sleepy El Segundo feels less like a tiki bar and more like a neighborhood watering hole with a bunch of tiki design choices. And we don’t mean that in a bad way. At Purple Orchid, you aren’t just drinking navy grogs under a thatched roof, you’re drinking navy grogs while watching the Dodgers and keeping pace at darts with an older gentleman in bermuda shorts who keeps saying, “Deep sea fishing ain't what it used to be.” Weekends get crowded, but our favorite time to visit is for their weekday happy hour from 3-7pm with $10 mai tais." - brant cox

Chill little spot. Intimate and comfortable. The vibe is that everyone knows everyone here but no one's a stranger. Quite welcoming. Cocktails were solid, pours were perfect and not too strong or sweet. Flavorful. I'll be back again.

Recommend to place this spot on your list of to do's.. Good / live crowd for a Monday. Will visit on the weekend again! Good drinks and some of the best prices that I have seen so far.

Cool tiki dive bar with specialty cocktails. Two pool tables, and plenty of seating/tables. Friendly crowd and yummy drinks! Great spot for a date as well!

Purple Orchid advertises itself as a tiki bar and there were certainly opportunities for some island fever-esque drinks to be had. My friend and I went ahead and ordered their Scorpion Bowl ($30) which you'd think we be done with as grown adults in our 30s. But of course, Bruins go hard so we had to enjoy one during happy hour times. Our drink was stiff, had the tiki umbrellas to boot, and was fun all around. The one drink that didn't really meet our expectations was the Singapore Sling. It wasn't red nor had much sweetness, so they either forgot the grenadine for ours or they chose to not use it for their version. So a hit for the bowl, a miss for the other drinks, but still a good spot to come to if you're in Downtown El Segundo and want to chill out with friends over a drink or two.

Super chill spot. My bestie and I shared the funky monkey volcano drink. The lighting is dark but I liked it. Friendly people. The place is not too big but cozy. The decor is cool. A few pool tables towards the back. Pass the pool tables to the restroom. We had lots of fun!

It’s a very fun tiki bar. You gotta try their volcano drinks 🍹 Strong, eye-catching, well-themed, and super delicious!! The vibe is here is the best part of my experience. People are so happy and friendly here! Come check it out :)

Google
If your looking for a real tiki bar that serves flavorful tiki drinks this place may not be up to par. I consider myself a tiki bar enthusiast and have traveled to most of California's tiki bars as well as locations in Vegas so I entered here with high expectations. The drinks fell short. They lacked flavor and had absolutely no tiki flair. As a formal bartender my pet peeve was definitely having witness my drink being made but put on hold to help others and make other drinks as it was watered down from sitting with ice before being resumed. That's a big no no in my books. However my lack of love for the drinks this place is definitely a great little dive bar. I would personally call this place a dive with tiki decor vs. An actual tiki bar. The people were very friendly and as a first time visitor were very welcoming. They were running with one person in the bar on a busy day and I have to say she always had a smile, acknowledged me each time I approached the bar, was very friendly and polite. Despite my not enjoying my "tiki inspired" drinks I definitely will be back to sit back relax and enjoy the vibes. I do love they are Ada and wheelchair accessible so I was able to comfortably enjoy myself. My advice stick to regular drinks if you plan on visiting vs their so called tiki drinks.

I always remember coming here but rarely remember leaving. Must be the punch bowls, I should get more friends so I don't have to use all four straws!

Yelp
I like the Purple Orchid. It's a great spot to hang with friends and have a few drinks. I haven't tried any tiki drinks, but the beer is cold (and good!) Service is fine, can't think of anything either remarkable or objectionable - it's fine. I'll be back... 4 stars

Yelp
My friends and I went to this place after some time at the beach. Service- That's why this review is being written. All of the bartenders seemed to have an attitude. When I simply asked for waters with umbrellas, yes quirky but oh well, bartender smirked and tossed them in the cup. At the end of the night, my phone was about to die and I had an hour drive home. I saw a charger behind the bar and asked the bartender if I could charge my phone at least a bit to get me home; she said no and I "better figure it out" because they are closing however she was still making drinks and people were still at the bar. In Customer Service customers are going to ask for things even if they're unusual. It's part of the job. A requirement should be when this happens to be approachable, nice and help out the customer, which these bartenders were and did not, especially if the customer bought drinks and tipped all night. Ambiance- tiki look and They play music on the juke box which is cute vibe Food- didn't have but saw people bring food in

Yelp
Perhaps I'm spoiled from regularly traveling to places with great tiki bars, particularly San Diego, other parts of LA, and even Orlando. However, I also put great effort into making legit tiki drinks at home, so I both appreciate the effort when it's there, and will criticize when it isn't there. I'm not opposed to paying for proper tiki, but I also understand it's a difficult business model; doesn't mean you can't have the fake tiki for the cost conscious consumer, and good ones at a different price point. If you're used to high end tiki drinks, that are faithful to the originals, this is not that. Purple Orchid seems to be a dive bar that serves drinks that loosely resemble tiki drinks, and share the name. It has random tiki decorations, and bamboo, along with a stage (plus tv tuned to ESPN....), pool tables, etc. So, my experience was a sticky counter, served a drink in a sticky glass, bartenders exchanging stories about guests who got belligerent and required eviction, and certainly nothing resembling tiki escapism. If you want legit tiki, just take the longer ride share and hit up Bamboo Club or Tiki Ti. I gave two starts because the staff were nice, prices include tax so your bill is easy to calculate and a nice round number, and the cool tiki memorabilia on the mens bathroom wall. Learned there used to be a tiki theme motel in my home town a few decades ago.

Yelp
It's a Wednesday. Great spot! I almost chaulked this place up as disappointing after that Mai Tai. I usually gauge a Tiki Bar off the Mai Tai... Forget that, get the Vic's Grog. Boozy deliciousness. I'd come back for this all day. Service is solid. Good vibes and safe seeming scene. No sketch on this night, good vibes. Solid Tiki with a hipper juke box anything goes play pool vibe.

Yelp
Obsessed! Loved the bartender & playing pool on a Random Sunday. Drinks were great too! Also the bathroom is super clean lol

Yelp
Great vibe, decor and drinks. Friendly staff. I love a good tiki bar! We had a great time, the drinks were tasty. It's got a lot of neat little hidden decorations.

Yelp
What a find! Went there on a double date. My friend suggested stopping in for a drink before seeing Bride of Frankenstein at the nearby Old Town Music Hall for our Halloween themed outing. It was a great idea. I must say that Purple Orchid is the tiki-est bar I've ever been to. Yes, it was divey but it had a cool decor, interesting mood lighting, and I liked my Mai Tai. It was fun seeing the other couple sharing their giant volcano bowl drink with the flame in the center. Luckily, no eyebrows were singed in the process! I look forward to going back again when I'm in town.

Yelp
I didn't want to go in here......This place is trash. Never ever have I had such a trash ass experience anywhere. No service was given to my group. Bartenders and bar back did not acknowledge our presence. A patron said good luck getting a drink as we sat at the bar wondering what was happening in this moment. We were not wanted in this place. I have to conclude it was based on our Black skin. Damn Shame!!!!!!!!!! Never again.

Yelp
I had the best day of my life, Lindsey is the best bartender I've ever had in her shirt took me to the next level of happiness!!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Lindsay was an amazing tender of the bar. We had both beautiful and delicious Tiki drinks. Priced right and ready to crush!!!!! Us Texans were so stoked Cali!!!

Yelp
Super fun place! One of the cutest tiki bars & their drinks are cheap & good. But they are very strong lol, beware of that.

Yelp
Had another great experience I think whoever was the bartender just had an off day and just wanted to go home. Still recommend 10/10

Yelp
Service and cocktails were on point. I think I remember pool table and juke box. Juke box did not work for last 2-3days and they were playing 90'd crap Bring on the Denny Martin, Les Baxter, Herb Alpert please even Elvis The "King Kahuna " ?
google avatar

Yelp
Lindsey was the shit ! So nice and really was on her A game ! Definitely will go back. She made such good drinks

Yelp
Stopped by for a great mai tai! This is a nice dive bar with great decorations to fit the Mai tai theme and drinks. It's cozy and lively. The service was great and the drinks even better. They also have some TVs and a couple of pool tables to pass the time. Great place to meet up with some friends for drinks!
google avatar

Yelp
If you're looking for a divey, semi-tiki themed bar with strong cocktails in the town of El Segundo, this is your place! I tried the Vic's Grog ($14) because it was noted as winning best cocktail in the Tiki Oasis contest. It was described as having fruitier notes of passion fruit and pineapple, but all I could really taste was rum hahaha. I like the unique cocktails though and got to try one of my friends', which was even banana flavored. Overall, seems like a fun place to go to, especially if you wanna split some tiki bowls!
google avatar

Darylynn D.

Yelp
Such a cool low key tiki bar. There's plenty of seating and two billiard tables in the back for $1/game. The service here is great as well.

Yelp
Came here for drinks on a Friday night with a couple friends. It was quite crowded, and it took us a minute to get the bartender's attention to order drinks at the bar. The bartender was quite busy and didn't seem particularly engaged in answering our questions about the drinks. We wanted a drink that had an umbrella in it and the bartender told us, "any of the drinks can come with a tiki umbrella". So we realized that we needed to just order a drink quickly and go. I ended up getting a Singapore Sling. It was decent -- decently strong, decently sweet, decently good. Got decentluy buzzed after that. I do wish that it was slightly less crowded and loud, and a bit more lowkey, but it's a Friday night, so I'm glad for them that it's hopping on a Friday night, but maybe just keep that in mind based on the ambiance that you're seeking.
google avatar

Tery L.

Yelp
As a tiki enthusiast, I'm stunned! I finally tried Purple Orchid, and wow--this place has been on my list forever, but I never made it out until now. We started the night with some tiki drinks before a concert at the Kia Forum, also while catching the Dodgers World Series Game one. The atmosphere was awesome, and the drinks were on point. Happy hour until 7 PM meant we scored Mai Tais for just $10 each--totally solid! Purple Orchid is definitely a new go-to for a fun pregame or even pre-flight spot.

Yelp
Still trying to figure out if this is a swingers bar? Not swingers like the Vince Vaughan movie from 98, but like people in the life style and pineapples, sharing is caring type vibes. I love their Bi Curious George bowl. One of my favorite drinks to get in el Segundo. The service is always top notch, the vibes feel like you stumbled into adult Disneyland tiki room. Love that they have a pool table, and sometimes even live music. Come to the sacred tiki.

Daniel D.

Yelp
Smoking indoors in 2025??? Hard pass. But yeah without the constant cigarette smoking the vibe was cool, service was good, drinks were decent. But wow how do you let people smoke indoors
google avatar

J C C.

Yelp
The decor is not quite full on Tiki bar but I've enjoyed my visits every time. The atmosphere is chill, the drinks are good and you can bring in food from next door. I even enjoy the pool table, which is not typical for a tiki bar but still enjoyable.

Justin M.

Yelp
Love this place always to busy but the bartender is always on it I love sharing my bday here had a blast.
google avatar

Andy R.

Yelp
Note: This review is based on the premise that the place was a tiki bar. We came into the Purple Orchid last night after a dinner nearby to have a tiki drink before calling it a night. To say we were disappointed would be an understatement. But there are some caveats. If you are looking for good cocktails, this is not the place. If you're looking for a dive sports bar, this is it. The tiki decor is really well done and the bar itself is nice. However, clues were abound that this place wasn't a true tiki joint. (Music. It was standard bar classic rock playing from a jukebox. TV. Games were on. Games. A couple big pool tables in the middle of the bar.). There's an attempt at tiki cocktails, but you're better off w a shot of Jack and a PBR here. The bartenders were super nice and attentive. But the tiki drinks were sub par. Coyingly sweet and just wrong. A Navy Grog is a standard tiki drink that a good bar should be able to make. They had that here. But whatever I got, wasn't up to spec - Just sweet fruit juice w rum. All this said, people inside were having fun. It wasn't very crowded at 8:30 on a Saturday night, so if you want a fun dive bar experience, this could be your place. But if you're looking for a good tiki bar w good tiki drinks , this is not the place. (Again, kudos to the friendly bartenders.). This just wasn't the place we were hoping it was.

Yelp
So much fun with my beautiful girls!!! staff was super nice to us and made a few new friends! Good times here!
google avatar

Rose P.

Yelp
All 5 of these stars are for the bartender and the crazy strong tiki drinks. If you're thinking this is going to be a tiki bar with smoking cocktails or cute tiki glasses -- it's not. It's cheap boozy "tiki style drinks" with friendly bartenders and cool regulars. It's dark. It's divey. It's a dive bar with tiki drinks.
google avatar

Gabby P.

Yelp
Nice dive bar but definitely not a fancy cocktail place. If you're looking for cheaper drinks and in a darker atmosphere, go check this place out. I appreciated the quick bar service and the pool tables were a fun touch!
google avatar

Adam N.

Yelp
Cool tiki environment with super friendly bartenders. Gin and tonic was solid. Met lots of cool locals.

Yelp
I like this place. I've only been here once and I remembered to write a review since I just recently went to the new tiki bar in Torrance. Drinks were strong so it's definitely good. The only thing I didn't like about this place was it felt too cramped. I remember sitting at the bar and people just walked behind me almost pushing me to the bar. It made me uncomfortable. Bartender was really nice. I remember my husband got curious on one of the weird looking bottles. He explained what kind of liquor it was and even said he doesn't recommend it. He grabbed a shot glass and poured some of the drink, gave it to my husband to try. He was right! Husband thought it was awful. Hahaha! Maybe we came on a day that it was very busy, so I'll be happy to come and try this place again.

Yelp
Looked up cool bars to checkout around Hawthorne and this popped up. The town/neighborhood is really cute and was looking forward to trying this place but we weren't feeling it. The decor is tiki themed but the vibe is laid back college sports bar. There wasn't old Hawaiian music playing in the background, just sports. There are 2 pool tables available and the space is pretty decent sized but it was really busy and crowded when we went on Friday night. I ordered the Coconut Kiss cocktail because the watermelon one wasn't in season and I thought it was mid. It's a blended rum drink but nothing to write home about and it barely got me buzzed. There were 2 bartenders but only one girl was working and it took her a while to get to us at the end of the bar and she was having a night. We said to close the tab at first but then changed our minds shortly after and she was visibly irritated by that one request. She was serving angry Tiki face the rest of the night. Try to find street parking or there's a public lot at the end of the street, but you may find yourself circling around until someone leaves. Anyway, there's not that many tiki bars left in So. Cal so give this place a shot if you're in the area.

Yelp
Dive bar. Tiki bar. Purple Orchid Call it what you like. It's a cool place to unwind, with a cocktail, or ten; solo or with friends. No food - snacks (chips) available. Don't know if they're keen on bringing outside food. Ask. See pics. Signature tiki themed drinks. Delicious. Tasty. Didn't order the fishbowl size ($26). Maybe one day. Service is awesome. Didn't ask her name. But she was friendly and made some mean drinks. Not too sweet nor too boozy. Balanced. Pool table. Pinball machine. Didn't see other activities but didn't really look. I was there to drink. Saw a TV. I remember the TV. Playing Harry Potter in the Tiki bar. Mention this because it's probably a cool spot to watch sports. Been here twice now. Will definitely be back.

James A.

Yelp
Sara is VERY PROFESSIONAL and super attentive. Definitely coming back here. Good vibe and good times

Yelp
Alcohol was alcohol at least, the people that regular there are worse than the dudes in the line up at Porto, waited 3 hours with quarters on table and got skipped till I dipped Won't be back
google avatar

Lorena S.

Yelp
I absolutely LOVE this place. The bartenders are amazing super amazing vibe. There's pool tables and a juke box so you can play your own music.
google avatar

Erika A.

Yelp
I came here after Topgolf and will be returning soon! The drinks were delicious and music is good. It's not too crowded so it's a good place to go on a date or with friends.

Yelp
Purple Orchid is a block off of Main St in El Segundo and is a fun place to grab drinks if in the area or coming in from LAX. We got the Vic's Grog which was a fruity delight. It has passion fruit and pineapple flavors. It won "Best Cocktail" at Tiki Oasis 13! Hot tip: You can get any of their tiki drinks in a volcano bowl for $33 for a fun pyro experience, but if you want more volume and less experience I'd stick with their regular option. Yelp
Not exactly an authentic tiki bar, though they could be, but ALWAYS a great time, with solid drinks. Purple Orchid will always be a special place for me and my friends.

Yelp
Went there for drinks on a busy night Natalie helped us out though she was swamped at the bar. Great dark and stormy's! Talk about a multi talented when multi tasked bar staff. "I'll be back"*arnold shwartzenagger voice*

Yelp
Classic fun dive bar, lovely strong tiki drinks. Great atmosphere, good music. Broad spectrum of people at this neighborhood bar. Busy but not too loud, great fast and highly competent bar tenders. We had a whale of a time all the way to closing. Has pool tables but plenty of seating.

Shane K.

Yelp
This place is so much fun. Great Tiki reminds me of Franks in Las Vegas. But will a pool table in the back for the South Bay crowd. Most people were drinking craft beers but the Tiki drinks were on point and well made. No skimp on the booze. Was there a while and my friends and I still had to take an Uber home after only 2 drinks that I swear did not taste as strong as they were. Loved it and have been back with different Tiki loving friends several times this summer. Good tiki is hard to find and usually never nearby this is so close and easy to get to from just about anywhere in the South Bay.
google avatar

Wendy O.

Yelp
This is my favorite after work hang out spot. The bartender is so friendly. The drinks are fun! You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Always love me a good Navy Grog volcano!
google avatar

Amy T.

Yelp
Definitely more of a dive bar than a tiki bar. Very busy with a pretty young crowd on a Friday night. The wait for drinks was not bad. We had a mai tai bowl which was amazing. We also had the scorpion bowl which was much stronger and a bit tart but delicious.
google avatar

Anita M.

Yelp
Great bar, loved the location. There was zero waiting time to be seated. We went on a Saturday afternoon, it was not crowded. I really like that there was good music playing but we were able to carry on a conversation. All the drinks we tried were good. I had a few of the Funky Monkey cocktails. Our bartender was really friendly, she welcomed us right away and helped us out by making recommendations. Very happy we stopped by this place and we'll definitely bring back friends. Big bonus: the restrooms are clean and very nice. Big plus for when you're drinking.
google avatar

Aneisha H.

Yelp
My first tiki bar experience and I was indeed impressed. Really great drinks and service. They only served snacks but they are open to you bringing in outside food which could be a huge plus or a deal breaker. Parking was limited but convenient. Drinks were super cool and gave you the full tiki vibe. Prices were decent but not sure if they have an happy hour. I would go back and recommend you check out this hidden gem. I hope they still offer this great service but not sure

Lauran N.

Yelp
We only had one requirement: something needed to be on fire and the Purple Orchid did not disappoint. Excellent service, super prices, great tiki ambiance, and fire, what more could you want? I don't understand why there are so many highly complementary 4-star reviews, this bar was incredible. 5/5, maybe even 6/5.
google avatar

Yelp
Awful service- rude staff do yourself a favor go to the tavern or standard. Awful experience

Sandra B.

Yelp
Good if u only drink beer, people r cool but cocktails are super sugary and taste funny. Service is good.

Yelp
Purple orchid is a great local watering hole. Good pours on the well drinks, tiki theme and two pool tables make this a great place to stop in for a drink.
