"New to this stretch of Olympic is Qi Steam Kitchen, a Chinese concept specializing in steamed foods. The restaurant’s signature dishes include steamed lamb chops and steamed asparagus with sesame seeds." - Cathy Chaplin

I loved it. The dessert sesame paste filled buns are amazzzzing. I would only suggest they ask you first if you want ice in your drink, because its brought with ice by default (like anywhere else here 🙄) and it would be nice to remind you that they could make it withouht it.

Google
The strong suite of the place are certainly the dumplings. The Crystal Dumpling - the prawn dumpling on the menu was excellent 👍 The beef noodle lacked a bit of flavor, although the beef was tender.

Google
Delicious food, feels really homely. I recommend the mapo tofu bowl. Clean restaurant and nice atmosphere. Thoughtful service, as the server noticed we only ordered vegetarian food and didn’t serve the sauce with the dumplings because it contained seafood and instead recommended the soy sauce. Convenient parking.

Google
Grateful and impressed! We arrived at 11:05 and they weren’t quite open because the owners were caught in traffic. Despite this they let us in and got us water and menus right away. The menu is great because it has attractive and honest pictures for my grandma to see what she would get. The food was out in 20 minutes or less and hot. You may want to order online in advance because within 10 minutes after opening they were packed with online pickup customers and that made getting extra sauce and desert take a little longer. Otherwise everything was tasty clean and pleasant.

Google
The food was great and I really enjoyed it all. It’s nice to see a place that has a special, like free red bean buns for dessert or a 13oz Thai tea. I really enjoyed it. The Singapore noodles were really good, and the pork xiao long was amazing as well. Scallion pancakes were alright but I would get again. Def coming back. Staff was very friendly.

Google
Only ordered three things from this place, siu mai, popcorn shrimp, and cucumber salad. We thought we ordered Dan Dan noodles but it never came. First of, the interior of the restaurant is actually nice, albeit the condiment section on the table was a little dirty. Second, the service is just average. Nothing to write home about. Third, the flavors of the dishes were underwhelming. Now I've had many siu mai from around the world and I have to say this is the blandest one I've ever had in my life. Even the cucumber salad, which I always order if I see it on a Chinese restaurant menu, was meh. The popcorn shrimp tasted life it was store-bought (the texture of the breading was off, like it was undercooked). The Chinese tea served is cheap and an affront to Chinese tea culture. I do think this restaurant has a lot of potential, seeing as it's mother company is a famous restaurant chain in China. I think, the flavors were toned down for the intended market in the area.

Google
Got the pork belly steam buns and the pork bao. The steam buns could have been good if they weren’t so dry and sauceless, and if the portion of filling per bun wasn’t so meager that it felt mostly like eating just a bun. The bao were not like bao I have had before, where it’s kinda fluffy. They just seemed like regular boiled dumplings to me, though I understand there are regional differences so maybe it’s that? They were ok, but at 15 dollars for 8 one-biters, I won’t be buying them again. I tried this place cause it’s near my house and was hoping to like it. Sad to say I probably won’t return.

Google
Pretty solid dumpling joint but nothing amazing. For me, the spicing is a bit bland across all items I've tried (dipping sauces included). Parking can be a bit tight, they have a few table outside for dining 'in'. Worth a try if in area and you have a craving.

Yelp
The moment I walked in the door I was greeted and attended. I liked the quick service and cleanliness. I ordered the pork belly Buns and the beef & vegetable dumplings they were really tasty and made to order. I will definitely come back to try more dishes.

Jason L.

Yelp
We found this nice dumping place while apartment shopping. There is a small parking lot out front and I was lucky to get the last spot directly in front. We ordered the soup dumplings, pot stickers, and pork rice bowl. And washed it down with a Thai ice tea. They bring a water bottle and cups to the table which is a nice touch like you see at Korean restaurants but more rare at Chinese or Taiwaneae food. The food really hit the spot. I really wasn't sure what to expect. The restaurant was clean and the server was nice. The best part are the photos on the menu. Yes, I could figure out what each item is based on the description but I always like to see what I am ordering without having to pull out my phone to check Yelp. I know I am a weirdo. The food was reasonable priced and a great casual lunch spot.

Yelp
It's tough to find decent Chinese food west of SGV, but Qi Steam Kitchen isn't bad! It definitely gets the job done when you need it. I've been a few times, and some of my go-to dishes are the TAIWANESE POPCORN CHICKEN, DAN DAN NOODLES, BEEF NOODLE SOUP, and for dessert the GOLDEN FRIED BUNS. ENJOY! PS: There is a parking lot, and you don't have to pay!!!

Christina W.

Yelp
Decent xiao long bao. A little too big to eat properly in the spoon... but still very tasty. Also ordered the fried rice which was nice. Very small inside , nice service. Thank you for having us.

Vu N.

Yelp
This review is based on take out only. We ordered a few items, including Dan Dan noddles, scallion pancakes, spicy shrimp and pork dumplings and some other forgettable items. The Dan Dan noodles were pretty bad - just noodles and liquid peanut sauce. The worse was the fried scallion pancakes. It looked like burnt dough. And we are still looking for the scallions from the pancakes....

Mike A.

Yelp
Enjoyed the food at Steam Kitchen a lot! The Dan Dan Noodles are a hit. They can get busy around lunchtime so I'd recommend placing your order ahead of time. The location is conveniently located off of Olympic and San Vicente. You can park in the lot or find public street parking. Service was friendly and quick, but one downside is that they do not have a robust staff to take orders and simultaneously maintain the cleanliness of the dining areas. Our table wasn't cleaned and on arrival we noticed trash left behind from a previous guest at another table. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, a properly cleaned establishment goes a long way in enhancing a guest's dining in experience. Would go back and try other menu items but might opt to take it to go instead of dining in.

Yelp
I have my order deliverEd and it's piping hot and delicious. I ordered the Crystal Shrimp Dumplings with Garlic Vinegar Sauce. scrumptious! The Cucumber Salad was crisp and delicious. Vegetable Potstickers with Chili Oil Sauce was really good. And the Vegetable Chow main was so good. I was delighted with my order and I have enough for tonight and lunch tomorrow!

Letty H.

Yelp
I am posting on here because I ordered takeout from this restaurant. I ordered: chicken wonton soup and spinach baos. I ate 3 wontons. Then I ripped one because I wanted to dip it sauce and I noticed the inside was slightly pink. I opened the other ones and they were all pink. It is raw! I would be be more than happy to admit that I am wrong but this looks raw.

Jason K.

Yelp
The food was good. The place needs a Heavy Cleaning. I visited the restaurant on a Sunday at around 12:15pm. The place looked liked it was open for 24 hours. The sauce tray was stained with soy sauce and vinegar sauce. The condiment bottles were filthy, almost empty. The two large Trash Can's by the entrance doors were dirty and dusty. It seems like no one cares about the cleanliness of the place. My impression is, if the areas that a customer can see is not clean, I can't imagine how clean the kitchen is.

Adamaris C.

Yelp
Food 10/10, Thai tea 10/10 ! Service was fast and very kind! Ambiance was quiet and pleasant! First time here and loved it!

Genie L.

Yelp
Small spot, not a lot of seating, not a lot of parking, but delicious dumplings! Ordered a bunch of items, since it was our first time, and we wanted to try as much as possible. Way too much food for 2 people so we had plenty of leftovers to take with us. Sesame balls- yum, sauce not needed DanDan noodles, meh Chicken karage, yum Soup dumplings, yum Crystal shrimp dumplings, yum Cucumber salad, refreshing

Zach H.

Yelp
Qi steam was great! The dan dan noodles got better the more I ate them. They should be served in a bigger bowl tho not much room to stir lol. Wasn't really busy seems more of a takeout place but they do have seating. Get the dan Dan if you can't figure it out.

Tim Y.

Yelp
Solid dim sum! We ordered a few dishes for take out a few months back but finally had the chance to write this review. Really loved their crystal shrimp dumpling! It was like a traditional shrimp har gow but on steroids and almost 50% bigger. This was freshly steamed with a thin skin but tons of shrimp inside! I definitely recommend ordering this! The pork sui mai's were also much larger than what you get at a normal dim sum restaurant. The meat filling was busting out of the wrapper! Potstickers are meant to be eaten fresh in the restaurant but because we ordered togo the crispy bottom was a little soggy from the condensation. They were still very flavorful and contained a generous amount of filling. The chicken fried rice was prepared well too with a good wok flavor. The restaurant was very clean and is located at the corner of a small strip mall next to Papa John's pizza. Parking can be a bit tight during dinner time.

Leah J.

Yelp
Crystal shrimp dumplings are amazing and on POINT! Just happened to be passing by and made a u turn was soon as I saw the windows. I will be coming back again and again. Delicious!!! Super nice gentleman that took my order as well.

Lilly C.

Yelp
Have to add a shoutout for the shrimp fried rice - firm flavorful rice with a nice smoke from the wok cooking and fresh shrimp. The proprietors are very nice too.

Mimi H.

Yelp
I had the Dan dan noodles. Was pretty good. My favorite part of the toppings was the peanuts. The meat was ok but not my favorite. I'm planning on going back to try more things.

Yelp
On a recent trip to Long Beach, the fiancee, Amy T., and I were at one of the museums nearby and got hungry from the walking around. We saw this nearby spot that was pretty decently rated. We walked in, and it was a small spot that only had a few tables, but we sat down and ordered Singaporean noodles, chicken xiao long bao, and crystal shrimp dumplings along with Thai Tea to drink. Although a little more pricey than what we imagined a fast-food style lunch dim sum spot to be, everything was nice and hot, and the dumplings were really good! Pretty packed with filling, no tearing of the outside, and good flavor. I think the XLB could have used a little more soup, and we didn't get a spoon with it, so the soup that was in there ended up mostly on the plate. There was a small mistake with the Singaporean noodles, but the staff was kind enough to bring out another with the right ingredients from the menu, which we really appreciated! The Thai tea was fantastic as well - perfect balance of sweetness, creaminess, and tea! Overall, a solid place, and I'd go again to try some of the other things on their menu!

Anne R.

Yelp
Went to Dunkin Donut for coffee and stumbled upon this place. I only ordered the crystal shrimp for takeout. It cost $16.37 for 8 pieces. Would I go back? No. Sure it was good but it was too expensive for what it was.

Maryann E.

Yelp
The food was amazing. Service was great. Ambiance could be better. The top two are what really count for me. We all really enjoyed my meal.

Elvis A.

Yelp
One of my favorite go to spots! Food is always fresh and great! I would recommend anyone to put them on your go to list.

Jo R.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. It's always clean and smells great. The food is so tasty. I get the spicy wontons rice and anything else that looks good. Costumer since 2023. The girl who takes orders is expecting a boy. She is so happy. Congratulations

Doreen M.

Yelp
Ordered delivery from here 1x for the first time & really liked the food. Got radish/tofu soup, cuke salad, and Singapore rice noodles. Will def order again.

Sophia C.

Yelp
We walked here after visiting La Brea Tar Pits (0.5 mi walk thru a residential street). You order at the counter and they bring the food out to you. The menu was pretty decent - lots of comfort foods like scallion pancakes , fried buns , Lion head meatballs, beef noodle soup , and lots and lots of dumplings. We ordered beef noodle soups and and the pork xiao long baos. Both were solid - portions were decent and the dumplings were so so good. I loved that the broth for the beef noodle soup wasn't too salty (which seems to be a problem at a lot of restaurants). Very tasty and we will definitely be back to try the rest of the goodies :)

Tranee N.

Yelp
I love the sesame baos. Food is good and located in a central location. Parking can be tight in the lot, but I believe there is street parking near by. It's a busy intersection

Al M.

Yelp
Food was good , but they are understaffed . Only 4 tables for seating so a bit of a wait if you want to dine in.

B_honest F.

Yelp
This restaurant level of rudeness and lack of professionalism displayed during my parents interaction was unacceptable. From the moment my reached out for assistance, they were met with disdain and condescension from the representative unhelpful, but they also seemed to go out of their way to make them feel unwelcome as a customer. Despite waiting for an extended period to be acknowledged, it took an unreasonable amount of time for a server to approach their table for water or to take our orders. The lack of attentiveness and basic courtesy greatly impacted the overall dining experience." as the In conclusion, I would strongly advise against engaging with Qi steam Kitchen if you value respectful and professional customer service. My experience left me feeling frustrated and disrespected, and I will be taking my business elsewhere in the future

Frank R.

Yelp
Better than Din Tai Fung. Service super friendly. Honestly great deals with prices. We got some bao, dumplings and the popcorn chicken. Best part is they didnt ask for tips on the iPad cos we got takeout.

Catherine B.

Yelp
Inexpensive, fresh and fast Asian takeout! Favorite dish was the Dan Dan noodles! Available in a spicy version that was absolutely Delish! Choose this restaurant over nearby Chinese alternative!

glen s.

Yelp
Straightforward and freshly prepared food. Stick with dumplings. Clean, simple restaurant.

Anika B.

Yelp
I have never eaten here in person, only ordered online. If I ever do go in person i will edit my review with my experience. So far the best Dim sum I've had in LA. Better than din tai in my opinion. I've tried a few dishes, the only one that I think is better at din tai is the pork xlb. Their pork xlb is good though. Great Thai tea. Their cucumber salad is insane. I could eat buckets of it. Bok choy is good, always cooked perfectly. Their spinach and mushroom baos are so good. It's hard to find good vegetarian bao and these are great. The vegetarian dumplings are also very flavorful. I loved the crystal shrimp dumplings, super juicy. It's definitely my go-to for dim sum cravings right now.

Joy A.

Yelp
I had a much better experience this time around! Instead of ordering from an app for pickup, I went straight to the restaurant to place an order. The order took about 14 minutes. It made a bit difference as I was there to bring home my food right after it was being made. I normally take note on the reviews I previously made but i am glad gave the soup dumplings another chance. This time there was flavorful soup in each dumpling. The casing is a thick but still very good. My order comes with garlic vinegar and soy sauce and although some people add some in the large spoon and take it in one bite, i would sip out the soup and put the vinegar and soy sauce in the dumpling. The crystal shrimp dumplings are delicious! I think they are like har gao. The Beijing beef burrito is very flavorful! I am used to pan fried with a slight crisp but this location seems to deep fry it. One order would fill you up so if you are like me and would like to have different things to eat, this would be perfect for sharing. Sesame seed dessert balls are smaller than what you normally get at the bakery, but I like how they make it this size. Three of these would equal to one and it is very filling. With the smaller size, it's perfect to share! I am definitely coming back to try more dishes!

Amy T.

Yelp
Came here for lunch after visiting the museum. The restaurant was small, indoor seating only, but very clean. They only had one waitress, but she was doing a terrific job bussing all the tables. 1. Singaporean noodles - not sure if you call this Singaporean, more like rice noodles. - did not have curry, which is my definition of Singaporean noodles. - good vegetarian option. 2. shrimp dumpling - delicious, one of the best ones I've had - there was a lot for one order - it was also pretty packed with filling, and it didn't fall apart with one bite which was the case for many Dim Sum places. My partner had their dim sum dishes (XLB) which was pretty good.

Jessica G.

Yelp
I'm from the San Gabriel Valley which is known for its authentic Chinese/Taiwanese cuisine and Qi Steam Kitchen is the closest place I've found in all of LA proper that tastes as good. I keep trying other places and they don't measure up. The people who work there are also always super nice and welcoming.

Scarlett H.

Yelp
Ordered 5 items : 2 great, 1 average and 2 were barely average. First, the shrimp siu mai -- "Looks like frozen food.... taste like frozen food", quoting my daughter here. Second, the scallion pan cake - sorry, I'm a scallion pan cake connoisseur... so theirs just didn't meet the expectations. The pork wontons were average. Now, the pan fried pork boas were excellent and the Napa cabbage salad was fantastic. Highly recommend these two items.

Che T.

Yelp
Have been a few times, authentic Chinese fast food. Good service and quality. Worth a visit.

Anh N.

Yelp
This place is a quick service restaurant where you order at a counter and pay before you get your food. This should temper your expectations of this "dim sum" restaurant. I really wanted dumplings, and I'm only familiar with two types of places that serve dim sum: white tablecloths + stamps + carts or steam trays + sneeze guard. This place was neither. The dumplings were good enough. I got veggie dumplings (filled with mushrooms and glass noodles), siu mai (always good), pork xlb (skin was a little thick, but good), another shrimp and pork dumpling. The only thing I would not recommend is the mapo tofu. I got a bowl for my mom, and like some other reviewer noted, it was heavy on the rice. It was also a bit too bland for my taste. I'd come here if I wanted some quick dumplings, but I would hesitate to recommend this place to anyone looking for a dim sum experience.

Eric C.

Yelp
Absolutely stunning food. From the Hong Kong BBQ Bao to the pan fried potstickers to the pork and bok choy bowl to the Taiwan style chicken... every dish was perfectly prepared, and even in delivery containers, came out fresh and tasty. Highly recommended for takeout Asian food!

Sammie W.

Yelp
Yum yum yum! I live really close by so ordered take out and it did not disappoint. So good. 10/10 will be returning I ordered the Hong Kong Style BBQ Pork Baos, Vegetable Spring Rolls, and Sesame Paste Baos for dessert! So good.

Jessie B.

Yelp
We came to eat here a few days ago. The restaurant is clean and the staff is very friendly. We got xlb which were SO good! I'm used to NYC Xiao long baos, which are a bit larger than these but compared to ding tai Fung, they're a good size. The soup inside was delicious! We also got the shui Mai and bbq pork baos - both very tasty. I ordered a wonton noodle soup to go, and the menu showed egg noodles and Gai lan. However when I got home it was bok choy and lo mein noodles. Also the broth was not very good, full of seaweed with no resemblance of Cantonese wonton soup (which is what I expected). The wontons themselves were good, but I could not eat the broth. So instead I used the noodles to make cold sesame noodles.. so nothing else went to waste. I'd definitely come back here and recommend to a friend with 2 caveats.. don't order the wonton soup and it's definitely pricey for dumplings. The shui Mai was almost $14. For all 4 items we paid over $60 with tax and tip. Overall, we enjoyed our experience!

Camryn Y.

Yelp
Acceptable flavors but overall underwhelming and WAY over-priced. Chow mein with shrimp was $17 for an undersized portion of noodles with 8 of the saddest, tiniest little shrimp that were clearly either boiled or steamed. For that price, I would expect big, delicious, juicy shrimp, sautéed along with the noodles in a wok!!! Milk tea was very watered down and pretty much un-drinkable when it was delivered to us. They should pack the ice separately! Pork dumplings, scallion pancake, fried dessert puffs, and chili sauce were decent but not enough to make up for the sad chow mein. Also the tiny container of condensed milk was laughably inadequate for the 6 fried dessert dough puffs-- I swear it wasn't more than a tablespoon. It's these little things that are just so frustrating and so easily fixable! For the $70 dollars we dropped with tip, we were extremely disappointed and still hungry afterwards.

Lauren X.

Yelp
Food is good here if you want authentic! The steam dumpling is on point. The fried chicken dumpling a bit tough on sides but overall good. Has a spicy flavor to the skin which was odd since I did not want spicy. The Singapore noodle is too wet to my liking. The ingredients used does not feel like Singapore noodles. But if you want vermiculite this is good fix. Overall good place to eat.

Magaly J.

Yelp
You know that moment after eating lunner with a good friend and you're both in the car trying to figure out where you can find some quality red bean sesame balls on a Sunday night but a lot of bakeries are closed and/or are too far away to justify the drive when you're in the West LA area? Well, Qi Steam Kitchen was our savior! Not only was it open early Sunday evening, but we did not have to travel far to the usual places where one might find such a treat like the SGV, Chinatown and even Koreatown. For $8.75, we got eight red bean sesame balls with a small container of condensed milk. Their sesame balls are solid! They were warm, the exterior was crunchy, the red bean paste had just the right amount of sweetness and the ball size was ideal especially if you wanted to have just a little bit and save the rest for later. I would and will definitely return the next time I have this craving again, but I'll make sure to actually try their entrees. hahah *This review is strictly in regards to their sesame balls dessert (on their menu it's under red bean paste sesame balls). I have not tried anything else.

Garret H.

Yelp
It's a small restaurant with around 4 tables. It's a very casual spot- we went up to order and were served on styrofoam plates. We had the crystal shrimp dumplings, siu mai, and Singapore noodles. Each dish was good but not exceptional. The atmosphere is modern but sterile. It was priced slightly higher than it was worth to us. Overall not bad but not amazing.

Shannon S.

Yelp
I was craving dim sum one day and ordered a bunch of dishes for take out one day. I was so excited to see some of my favorites in the menu: Crystal shrimp dumplings, sesame balls (with red bean), and scallion pancake. I also ordered the white fish dumplings and veggie dumplings. I ordered my food for delivery using the Yelp app, and it all went smoothly! No contact delivery, right on time! The food was fresh and cooked very well. I enjoyed all the dishes - although the scallion pancake was a tad oily for my liking. My favorite was the sesame balls (if you know me, then you know I cannot turn down sesame balls...EVER :)

Ashley C.

Yelp
i hate to leave bad reviews, but this place is terrible. I came here based off all the wonderful reviews, and to my surprise it was nothing what the reviews described. First, there was actually mold growth inside the bottle of Sriracha hot sauce at the table I was sitting at. The cucumber salad I ordered tasted like it was just sitting in soy sauce with a splash of vinegar. I read a review below, and someone said this place is better than din tai fung, and that is absolutely false ! I could go on, but I won't. Not sure how this place is even still in business.

Sean B.

Yelp
I went back and forth a few times between three and four stars for this place. I'm a bit torn. It really is minimally decorated and very tidy, neat and clean, which is a nice first impression. The sole server working (I think) was friendly enough, though seemed to be working hard for one person alone. They could have used a second person working the day I went. The menu was limited, which is fine. I ordered some steamed dumplings with their lunch combo, so it came with soup and a (large) salad. I enjoyed both wholly, though it was a bit funny that 75% of the food were the 'starters' and 25% of it was the entree... but again... no problematic. The food was good, the place was clean, and while the woman working there was busy, she stayed on top of things. A bit pricey for what you get, but I'm sure the rent in this neighborhood is back-breaking, so perhaps that's a non-issue as well, perhaps inevitable. I enjoyed it, not sure that it wow'ed me so that I'd become a super-regular, but I'll go back and try a few other items before making my final judgment call on this one.

Emilie W.

Yelp
Ended up visiting the museum and craving for some Chinese food on Wilshire Blvd. Yelp to Qi Steam Kitchen, it is a modern Chinese kitchen! Simplicity interior design with floor-to-ceiling large glass is full of light and let this small kitchen feels clean and spacious and elegant. Ordered 8 pieces of Shrimp & Pork Siu Mai and Crystal Shrimp Dumplings came out piping hot in a cage. ( yes authentic Chinese Dim Sum should use the bamboo cage to steam it ! ) The Siu Mai meat is tender in texture, crystal shrimp dumplings, thin wrapper and tasty inner stuffing. Must be the wrapper too thin so that some of them showing the inside stuffing like Happy smile! Peking Beef Rolls are deliciously seasoned beef and vegetables wrapped in crispy "Chinese" Britto. The portions are large and delicious. Cucumber salad as a starter, as a starter, refreshing and fresh! With his secret chili sauce on stage, those who like spicy food will definitely fall in love with it! Compared with traditional Chinese restaurants, this small kitchen is friendly and cozy! Their portions are relatively large and the prices are reasonable. Looking forward to eating other varieties next time.

David H.

Yelp
When I want a quick lunch I order the steamed pork buns. You get 3 and it just enough to fill me up. I use Yelp to place my order and the order is always waiting for me when I pick it up.

Rachel K.

Yelp
I've only ordered from here on DoorDash and got it delivered, so my review might change if I ever get a chance to dine-in. But from my experience, I think this place is a bit overrated. I got the pork XLB, the pan-fried pork bao, and the chicken dumplings. They weren't very hot when they arrived, and I've ordered dumplings for delivery from other places that aren't much farther than this place and they arrived piping hot. It could be the packaging containers they use, it could be an issue with me ordering food delivery - I don't know, but they weren't that tasty because of it. Aside from the food temperature, the XLB didn't have a rave-worthy amount of soup in them and some of them were punctured so the soup leaked out. The pan-fried baos were VERY greasy and the bao was so thick compared to the amount of filling inside - it was more bread than it was meat/pork. Also, I'm not sure if the pan-fried bao was supposed to have soup in them (other places put soup), but these were dry on the inside and the only moisture came from oil. Overall I thought the food was a bit bland compared to other places I've tried.
