This is a family owned small restaurant. Don’t be fooled by their business name: “bread food”. They don’t bake any bread. They serve house made noodles, dumplings, and a variety of meat filled streamed buns. They also sell frozen dumplings and plain buns (mantau). They close at 8pm, be there before 7:15 pm or the chef will come out and show his attitude. The young waitress is polite. The house made noodles are fresh and dente. Very food. The dumplings come with dip sauce made out with fresh ground garlic, very spicy. Will return and try other items.

Dumplings are so good here. My favroite is pork+chive+shrimp. Although severs cannot speak English. You can order with your finger. Highly recommend.

I'm so grateful this place is still open. This is the authentic taste of Northern China. For more than 10 years this place has offering great food to east LA. What's beyond the food is the striving spirit this tiny restaurant has showed us. Really sweet dumpling spot, we loved the vegetable dumplings and steamed beef bao buns. Service was fast and efficient. Garlic sauce was excellent, my boyfriend didn't love the chilli sauce though.

Small family owned, they have been around for many years, survived the pandemic. Love their baozi and dumplings. Dishes are good too!

Noodle with pork and bean sauce (zha jiang mian) was legit and as good as my grandma's. Lamb dumpling was good but a little overcooked -- the skin was soggy and some already broke. The garlic dipping sauce has quite a bite with the minced garlic in it. I liked it but may not be everyone's cup of tea. The Napa cabbage and pork steam buns were huge and the filling was good. The bread part was thick and dry, unfortunately, so not my favorite. The place is homey and the food is pretty good. And the take credit cards now so no need to go to the ATM first for cash.

15 years ago, I mistakenly found this place when I was walking down Garfield Avenue. At that time there were no English menus, the staff was Mandarin Speaking, and I had to order by pointing at pictures on yelp. The thing is this: The dumplings I had here from fifteen years ago were some of the best that I've ever had. I came back today to see if they were still good. Hint: they were! The thing is that people still don't know about this place! In the past year, for example, there has only been a handful of Yelp reviews for this spot! Qing Dao Bread Food sounds like a poor Google Translation; however, they're known for their dumplings and what I highly recommend are their "pan-fried pork and leek buns". Underline that for emphasis. The bottom of the bao are crispy, yet the skins are thick and chewy, and the filling is full of fresh scallions. The dish is served with an addictive soy-garlic sauce, and this is a flavor bomb. This is a literal hidden gem. You should absolutely check this spot out for this dish. The drawbacks are what I highlighted above: They don't have English speaking staff, the menu can be daunting for the American palate, and this spot is small and CASH ONLY. Definitely come here for the pan fried buns and dumplings. They're large, filling, delicious, and worth it!

Excellent and authentic Shandong and Qingdao style north Chinese cuisine! Carb lovers delight! Soup and dumplings were all excellent, steamed and pan fried alike! Their cold dishes were a surprise highlight, especially the garlicky cucumber dishes and seaweed salad. Home style deliciousness! This is a bistro style venue, so come in and eat and jet! Great takeaway and frozen dumplings options too, all handmade goodness!

In a world today where every restaurant is trying to stand out from others via either gimmicks, price tricks, or some other type of marketing, Qing Dao stays true and original to what a restaurant truly should be focused on- food quality and taste. There are no big fancy signs, no expansive menus, and no combos or lunch specials. What you get is dumplings, noodles and wontons that is served in the most organic, and original way, with taste that is reminiscent of my childhood, when I would go to a communal owned food dining hall after school and get a plate of traditional northern dumplings and wontons. As you are eating them, you take note of the ladies that is actually hand making them, from the dumpling wrap to the fillings, while conversing lively about their lives. Nothing is commercialized here, just good people, making good dumplings, buns, and noodles. This is what eating dumpling is all about imo- original, traditional, and communal. If you ever find yourself craving for some northern dumplings, and find your self in Monterey park, please come and experience what a truly, authentic and original northern dumpling shop is like at Qing Dao. Price is very reasonable.

A def SGV MPK classic mom and pop shop, yummy dumplings and buns and marinated meats, the garlic sauce is the best paired with some vinegar or soy sauce, owners are mandarin speaking and hardworking small business.

Cozy space with big kitchen and ample seating, Cash and mandarin-language preferred. Menu is translated into English and you just mark what you want (like dim sum places without carts). Shared plaza parking lot that was easy on a Sunday afternoon. I tried the boiled lamb dumplings and pan fried baos with pork, leek, and shrimp. The lamb is a little gamey, juicy, and full of chives in a thickish dumpling skin (almost like linguine?). Pan fried baos had a nice ratio of filling to bao and the crispy bottom and skirt was a real treat. I wish there was more pork and a bit of salt; the shrimp seemed more like crayfish/prawn in texture/color. Both were great with the potent (raw) garlic sauce, chili oil, and vinegars on the table. I'd come back again to try other things.

This is a cash only small restaurant. Owners and staff only speak Mandarin, but they are very friendly. The size of the dumplings is quite large. They are not just large in size but are very fresh and juicy. Most important, we fell in love with their special garlic sauce ( the taste is quite strong in terms of spiciness, so it may not fit everybody). We also ordered pork spare rib noodle soup and pork tongue. Both are delicious. Give it a try if you wanted to try Chinese ShangDong food!

Comfort food done right! I thought the bowl of noodles would be too big but end up devouring them with ease. The dumplings wtih the garlic sauce were amazing. I know where to go next time I need to load up on frozen dumplings. They don't really speak much English, but the menus have english and ordering was simple and quick.

I love the dumplings! So obviously made from scratch and cooked to order. My favorite is fish with parsley either steamed or fried. The pickled garlic sauce is heaven. I wonder if they sell it? It's a tiny place and nobody speaks English. Luckily you can check off what you want on a sheet that has both English and Chinese. Forget ordering by phone- unless one of their kids is around , they get freaked out and hang up. They now have an online ordering service. Sequence of events of what literally just happened right now: I called. The lady picked up and said hello, ni hao. I asked to order for pick up. I hear the phone receiver click. She hung up on me!! I don't even know if it's worth trying anymore. I saw this place down the street near where I live and was wondering if it's worth giving it a chance, but at this point, I'll go make my dumplings myself. That was incredibly rude and I had low expectations. I'm used to the rude servers at other establishments like this. But she couldn't even ask like to repeat it or try? I speak Chinese

Lamb dumplings too salty. Skin also too thick. I purchased the bag of frozen dumplings to make at home. Steamed it. The meat filling was too salty. The juice is fine though.

This place is hole in the wall! It is easy to miss this place when you driving by but their food is really good. We came across this place on 100 places to eat in SGV and I had to give it a shot! We got pork with leak and shrimp dumplings, pie with leeks, eggs, and dried shrimp, and Marinated beef tendon with garlic. All the dishes were cooked to its perfect and flavors were excellent! Their service was quick and they were great at hospitality. As mentioned in other review - language could be a barrier but I was able to point it out what we wanted and no problem with ordering food. It seems to be family run business and I like to support such businesses. Definitely recommend this place if you are looking for food similar to Qing Dao region of China!

Based purely on food (although employee that answered our call was pretty rude too). Lamb dumplings - absolutely flavorless, way overcooked, dumpling skin was mushy and ruptured on majority of the dumplings. Pork intestines (usually my favorite thing to eat) - not cooked properly to render the interior fat so there was just huge blobs of fat in every piece. Texture was terrible (I love intestines in all forms usually). Jellyfish - what jellyfish?! The entire dish was mainly cabbage. Also flavorless. Marinated beef shank - what marinade? It tasted like boiled beef. Millet porridge had clumps of dough. I really had high hopes for this place.

A quick, affordable, and no frills dumpling spot in the SGV - how much better can it get? A humble storefront tucked in a Monterey Park plaza, QDBF is a hidden gem. We arrived at around 3pm on a Sunday. After finding free parking in the back lot, we were the only patrons in the ~5 table restaurant. Upon receiving a dim-sum style write-in-your-quantity menu, we ordered pork, leek, and shrimp pan fried dumplings; pork and cabbage bread dumplings; and beef noodle soup. All three were fantastic. Both dumpling dishes came with 12 pieces, had wonderfully crispy "skirts," and each ran about $14. They also paired well with QDBF's signature, very garlicky garlic sauce (think Mediterranean garlic toum but chunkier). The soup came with plenty of thin noodles and a few pieces of tender beef. All in all, our total was $46. We'll be back soon!

Revisited this place for the first time in a few years and is really delicious and among the best dumplings in the SGV. The boiled pork/leek and pan fried pork/cabbage dumplings are both delicious and also their style of pan fried buns were unlike anything I've had before. Also, what really puts it all over the top is their signature garlic dipping sauce which is VERY garlicky in the best way possible. It is a bit of a dive and just has a few tables inside. Service is friendly and quick. They bring you a paper menu to fill in and order from, and bring out food as it comes. Definitely a must visit for dumpling fans.

Qingdao Bread Food is my family's go-to in the San Gabriel Valley. My family is originally from Qingdao and this delicious hole in the wall restaurant gives us a taste for back home. We usually order the pork and chives lu bao and shrimp dumplings and most recently the pork lip with cucumbers. Very nostalgic home cooking and plus good service at lunch! We also make sure to take extras with us when we go back home. Frozen dumplings are also a huge plus!

Shandong style food, I'm told. So I tried the Lamb Noodle soup, then the pan fried pork dumplings, and both were delicious! Ambiance is small, clean & quiet! Certainly easy to find at 301 Garfield Ave... I don't speak Mandarin but I just pointed, and enjoyed the food! I'll be Going back to try the variety of dumplings, noodle dishes, and pork buns.

Decent spot but nothing special that stood out for me. The restaurant is pretty small so it feels crammed. We got their wonton soup, pan fried dumplings and cold apps. The apps were meh - the beef was really dry and chewy but the seaweed salad was good. The dumplings were okay - nothing special. However, I did love their dank ass garlic sauce.

Delicious handmade dumplings ever! The beef steamed dumplings are the best to ones to try out. Only thing is it's hard to order here since there isn't an English speaker to help out. Sometimes I don't get a chance to order at all so I'd leave but when one person that helps out in there is there I take my chance to order with them.

I've really come to rely on this place as a convenient/comfort food place! The quality of the dumplings is consistently good, the service is quick and no-nonsense. I also regularly get the frozen 50 dumplings for $20 for a quick weekday meal at home. I'm from Qingdao, China, and I really enjoy how authentic this place it. The chefs/servers speak in my dialect and details down to the raw garlic/vinegar dip that accompanies the dumplings are all very authentic. Since switching to a pescatarian / vegetarian diet, I've been sticking with the vegetarian dumplings that are pan fried. The crunchy base goes really well with the doughy, yet not too thick skin of the dumplings. The vegetarian dumplings are filled with mushrooms, leek, and other vegetables I can't identify, but it's super soupy. Comparable to Xiaolongbaos or soup dumplings. I usually bite a small opening to let the steam run, and then dip the dumpling in the garlic vinegar dip. It's super delicious! The garlic dip is strong though and not for everyone. Raw garlic is pungent and stinging. But I won't have it any other way! I haven't tried any of the side dishes, since that is not really the focus of the store. But if you're in the mood for really good quality dumplings, you can't go wrong with this place! Don't forget to get a bunch of frozen ones for a quick bite at home - beats instant ramen and takes about the same amount of prep time!

They take credit card now! The dumplings here are delicious. You can get them either steamed or pan fried. The pan fried versions are interesting because they put them in a pan with a bit of corn starch slurry in the bottom which crisps up and results in a bit of a dumping star; all the dumplings are stuck together by a delightfully crispy bottom crust. My wife and I are pescatarian so we generally only get the vegetable dumplings and the sole with leeks dumplings. They are very tasty! All the dumplings are served with a saucer of garlic for topping. Let me warn you that this garlic is raw and POTENT. Seriously, if you take too much of the garlic you can get what feels like a chemical burn on your tongue. Not to mention the garlic breath! You can also get bags of frozen dumplings here which are great by themselves and also great to throw in some instant ramen! The employees are friendly, but their English might be a bit limited. The menu is in English and you mark off what you would like, though, so the communication might not be too much of an issue. The interior of the place is also nothing to write home about, but it does not detract from the food! There is a parking lot in the back which is usually not super busy.

Yumm! Absolutely great dumplings - LA never disappoints with Chinese food! This place is cash only, and the owner doesn't speak a lot of English. However, it's pretty easy to order if you don't speak Chinese. The food comes out quickly and steaming hot! They're also well known for their garlic sauce - delicious. These are definitely big dumplings and very filling. Would highly recommend!

Haven't been to this little hole-in-the-wall in years but boy is this now my new favorite dumpling and noodle restaurant! The place was empty (love it already) and the food came quickly (double love!) We had complimentary hot tea. An order of beef dumplings. And we had two soup noodles: one lamb soup (clear broth) and the other beef. The dumplings were large and numerous (12 for $9.99). The lamb noodle soup tasted authentic and came with a huge portion of lamb! The beef noodle soup was perfect and also came with a good amount of beef, and we even requested vegetables (A). And the portions!! Just look. Seriously.

This place has that dumpling house dive/hole in the wall feel you see all over China and much of SGV, but it's even more minimalist now with the Quarantimes! Whereas there was at least a table or two inside to dine in uncomfortably before, now you can't eat inside and you have to pantomime your order if you can't speak any Chinese. If you can overcome these barriers, this place is a dependable option for Northern-style Chinese dumplings. One side of my family's ancestral roots are in Shandong Province, where the owners of Qingdao Bread Food originally hail from, so I'm used to the taciturn, stoic demeanors of Shandong people... like Tennessee, the Volunteer State, Shandong is known for bangers and brawlers. Don't be put off by the gruff folks that operate this place; they're like that no matter who you are and whether or not you speak Mandarin. It's been a while since I've been here but I stopped by as I drove through the area because the Bibigo and Ling Ling dumplings you get at Costco just aren't doing it for me right now. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of interrupting the old uncle manning the place as he was reading his newspaper, so his terse response probably should have been expected. The following conversation happened in Mandarin: "Hello, what are your most popular dumplings?" He scowls, "They're all good. They all sell well." I peer at the menu, "You mean to say that everything here sells well?" He scrunches up his face even more, "I make these dumplings all day. I wouldn't make them if they didn't sell." Okay then. I decided to order a bag of frozen cabbage and pork dumplings (classic) and call it a day. Dumplings and noodles are hearty foods and there's perhaps no place that does it better than Shandong, I'm big on thick dumpling skins and the skins here are THICC, with some slight chew... good dough work. The cabbage and pork filling is juicy and flavorful, although they might pop out if you don't keep your eye on them as they cook. Whether as potstickers or boiled, the dumplings here are quality goods for home cooking. At about 40 dumplings for $22, it's a decent price too: word to the wise, if you're paying more than fifty cents a pop for frozen dumplings, they better have premium fillings or you sir/ma'am are getting bamboozled! Some reviews say they take credit card now, but apparently not today: BRING CASH. If you're a veteran dumpling fiend and live out of the area, make sure you bring a cooler or other temperature insulated solution; they give you the frozen dumplings in a Ziploc bag and then wrap the bag in a bundle of Chinese newspapers... as far as I know newspaper doesn't have special insulating properties, even if it's in Chinese, so if you're driving from afar plan accordingly.

The "pork with string bean bun" (四季豆肉包) baozi are my favorite, but all four varieties are tasty and inexpensive. Place is nice and quiet.

This place is probably the best place to get frozen wonton or dumplings to cook at home. The fillings in their dumplings and wonton is perfectly seasoned and they balanced the meat and vegetable portion well. The price is of good value. Also if you eat there, try their lamb soup. is very warming on a cold day!

despite the name of the restaurant, this place is makes very good food - especially their dumplings and baos. Bread food denotes that they are making flour based food based on the Quindao regional style. It's just a funny translation. I quite like this variation, more importantly: I love their frozen dumplings. While they might be a little more expensive than some competitors, their dumpling wraps are noticeably better (a bit more chew to it) and their filling is really good (especially the "3" pork, chives and chopped shrimp). I think it's totally worth it!

This is a very small, no frills cafe. There is no service but the dumplings are superb. We ordered the pan fried dumplings as well as the boiled dumplings. They are juicy and full of flavor. The best homemade dumplings I had here.

My friends and I arrived hungry and ended up ordered way too much food, as the serving sizes are large. My favorite item we tried were the shrimp pot stickers. The pot stickers were quite the showstopper, set out in a sort of floral array with fried...bits? (it's kind of curious now that I think about it) connecting the dumplings to one another. The chive boxes were enormous, but the peel was a bit tough. The cold vegetable dish appeared to be not made to order but rather taken out of the refrigerator, but it was still refreshing. The lamb dumplings and beef noodle soup tasted standard for good homestyle cooking. Since we had plenty of leftovers, I can also attest that the food and flavors keep well.

This place is great restaurant for fresh fried dumplings. This is the first place I have ever been to where fried dumplings are served. Very tasty! They have pork or combination fried dumplings. One order contains 8 dumplings. They are served with a garlic dipping sauce which I believe also contains a little vinegar. I particularly enjoy their pork chop soup. It is not fancy at all. There is somewhat of a language barrier but the menus are in English, which adds to the authenticity of this eatery.

How come I didn't discover this place earlier??? I love traditional authentic handmade dumplings. You sure can buy a bag of frozen dumplings from 99 ranch for 3 dollars but they don't taste the same. Boyfriend has adapted to good quality handmade dumplings now after I took him to various dumpling places in SGV. He grew a taste :) We got here a little after 2pm. Place is empty for dine in customers. We were immediately seated and offered a menu. I chose the pan-fried dumplings while mr. insist on boiled. Our order: Pork and cabbage boiled dumpling: great flavor, handmade dumpling wrap, juicy inside; solid 5 star Pork with leeks and shrimp wonton soup: favorite on the table. Skin is soft, soup has seaweed, green onion and cilantro. We love this dish! Wonton is amazing. This reminds me of the wonton soup I had when I was little. Pan-fried dumpling with three delicacy was for me. It has shrimp, leek and egg. Love the texture of the bottom part. I stuffed myself for 7 dumplings. Feel the satisfaction. During our lunch, lots lots of people came in to get frozen takeout. Because we love their wonton soup so much, we got a bag of frozen one to go, along with steam rolls. Service was quick and silent. Nothing to complain. Overall, food is 5 star and beyond. Will def come back to get more takeout.

Short but sweet cuz its been a year.. The wontons were definitely bang for the buck. I remember the noodles were super flavorful, I was very happy with whatever noodle dish I got. Parking wasn't a bitch and this place was cheap as fuck.

2 visits in 2 weeks and I love it! The specialty of their food is from the Shangdong region of China. Shandong is know for their vinegars and this places makes no exception. Order the seaweed and it it hinted with a dark vinegar that is almost wine like, very tasty. The Zhajiangmian Stewed Pork with Brown sauce is unlike any other version I've seen. the Zhajiang is freshly stirfried from pork, tofu, and fermented bean sauce mixed with fresh cucumbers. There is actually very little thick brown sauce, but is still very flavorful, which makes it unique and refreshing. and the fish dumplings... they are good.. and don't forget to try the Stuffed Buns (Lubao)... the dough is excellent.. they look funny out of the pan, almost like a tortoise shell, but I assure you they are very unique with very good dough. Eat both of these with the very potent garlic with vinegar (suan rong cu)

So good authentic dumplings. I love it here. Love the garlic sauce. Ask for their chili oil!! It's so good to mix it. So glad my coworker recommended this place.
