The Best Restaurants In Avalon, Stone Harbor & Sea Isle

"Lately, finding real buck-a-shuck oysters is as rare as finding a free patch of sand after 10am on Fourth of July weekend. But they’re on the menu at Quahog’s, daily from 5-6pm at the bar. That’s far from the only reason to hit the Stone Harbor seafood shack, though—there’s also the shrimp ceviche, crispy fish bites with saffron aioli dip, and the BBQ Pacu Pacu fish ribs that Guy Fieri loved on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Plus, there’s a full bar, with mezcal flights, micheladas, and sangria. And there’s the fact that it’s laid-back, kid-friendly, and really fun." - regan stephens, sydney mcelwee, candis mclean

After many years, finally got to have diner here. It did not disappoint! I don’t eat shellfish but there are many other options to enjoy. The food is delicious. The atmosphere is wonderful. Seems like you are on vacation even if you live locally. Complimentary chick pea salad while you read the menu trying to decide from many choices as well as daily specials. A fantastic experience!

We recently dined at Quahog’s and overall, it was a pleasant experience. The hostesses were incredibly pleasant and accommodating, making us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. However, our server could definitely use a new personality, as her demeanor was less than enthusiastic. We were seated in a very loud bar area, which made conversation difficult. Despite the noise, the decor was fantastic and added to the ambiance. Next time we visit, we will definitely request the back room, which we found to be much better suited for a more relaxed dining experience. The highlight of our visit was undoubtedly the food, which was really, really good. Each dish was delicious and well-prepared. We look forward to returning and enjoying another meal in a more comfortable setting.

Google
Excellent fish tacos! Our corn was not as hot as I'd like but the server was quick, friendly, and had good suggestions for a member of the group who could not eat shellfish. The people who had lobster rolls raved!

Google
Lucas and team know how to run a good restaurant. I have admired how he established and grew this business over the years. Experience - the reception is always good and the atmosphere is nice, especially the bar room. Service - the service is always good. Food - The food is excellent. Hidden secret - they serve great wings at the bar during happy hour. Overall, given the quality experience and considering it has become somewhat expensive, the value is good. Feedback The 2025 menu, IMHO, is long on seafood and short on meat. Please bring back the Carne Asada!

Google
One of the better seafood restaurants in Stone Harbor area. Gets super crowded around dinner time, better to make reservation ahead of time. The restaurant has mostly indoor sitting only, with few tables outside of shed, under open space. The menu items and drinks are written with chalks in boards hanging on walls, but they hand out paper menus too. This place lots of interesting sea food dishes. They start you off with complementary chickpeas. The appetizer and entrees do take some time to come out, during rush hours. We really like their clamps, mussels, blackened fish (very well seasoned), and the Moqueca stew. Unfortunately, the margaritas were little disappointing. Out of the three margaritas we ordered, only Passion Fruit had some taste of the fruit, for Mango and Blood Orange, we couldn’t find any presence of fruit, just tasted alcohol. The kids pasta with marinara also very blend. As the restaurant is mostly under a shed, it gets really loud, as people are talking and having a good time. So, we also had to talk really loud among selves. Food taste - 4/5 Food prep time - 3/5 Price - $$$$ Service - 4/5 Items Tasted: Clams, Mussels, Oyster - 4/5 Grilled catch of the day Tuna - 4/5 Blackened Grilled Fish - 5/5 Moqueca Stew - 4/5

Google
I would not recommend this place to anyone. We were recommended this place from a family friend. First time in Stone Harbor and the restaurant had a great atmosphere. The food however was awful and we spent over 450$ on one dinner. The lobster was inedible, the crabcakes were burnt, and the overall food was very mediocre compared to the price. The staff was fantastic but we will not be returning due to the food being some of the worst we've had since arriving to Stone Harbor

Dwight

Google
Get there at 4:20 if you want $1 oysters and wings at the bar, which were perfectly prepared. Appetizers were not hot. Shortrib overcooked and lobster oily. It seemed expensive for 4pp with no table cloth, most everything was served in a basket. Good bar service then at table didn't see the server after entrées.

Google
Nice place to visit with a group. Relaxing and casual. The menu has an item for all ages. Make sure that you make reservations...it can get busy. The crab cakes were delicious. We would have preferred a little less spice on the ribs, but they were large and tender. Plenty of food in your order. You won't leave hungry. Make sure that you order a cocktail. The Machomeno and Pinata were tasty.

Yelp
My family and I go here every year at the shore. Prices are shore prices here. We always leave thinking it could be better. The menu looks great, but sometimes they fail to deliver. Seasoning is often off. Sometimes way too salty. Sometimes not enough. There's cilantro lurking in alot of the dishes, I hate cilantro. Skip the oysters, they are usually served tepid and tasting a day or so too old. Drinks are spotty too. Sometimes on point, but usually too strong or off balance. Service always starts off strong then falls off a cliff about 2/3 of the way in. There is plenty of staff, they just don't seem to care. Tips abound and their service doesn't affect their income. Its worth a visit. Once a year.

Yelp
Solid spot in Stone Harbor for dinner! It gets busy as it's quite popular, and while the food does leave a bit to be desired (miss me with the soggy corn on the cob) there's still a lot of highlights and reasons to enjoy. 1) Our server was really fun - there was a bachelorette the night we were there so it's a party on the patio kind of vibe 2) My margarita was amazing 3) They have great seafood specials and my fish tacos really were excellent. Prices are high for what you get. We had a reservation that couldn't be honored at the appropriate time (but shout out to restaurant for warning us in advance) and the staff here seems generally overwhelmed by the volume. Not a place I'm in a rush to return to but a fine option for drinks or dining while vacationing.

Yelp
I wish I liked it better than I did. My daughter had the land & sea,It was shrimp skewers and ribs. In her words, I wish the skewers were available alone, because they were good and ribs weren't. The breaded scallops were good The calamari was fine. The fried plantains in the dish were probably the best part of that app The crab puppies were a skip for me. They were pretty bland and just there. Baja tacos were fine. The clam bake was fine. The clams were cooked well but once you discarded the shells there wasn't much to it. One potato and a small piece of corn. As said before the clam chowder is thin and

Yelp
Quahog's always delivers. Great food. Service is on point and with a great vibe. This is one of our "go to " places in stone harbor.

Yelp
Absolutely floored by the service at Quahogs. Went back and gave them another shot and the bartender treated me like royalty. Their specialty cocktails are absolutely exquisite. I recommend the tequila espresso-martini type drink that is a special this week (6/24-6/28). $12 for 12 oysters on the half shell is absolutely absurd, and the freshness was second to none. I cannot recommend this place enough. I was thoroughly impressed with the crunchiness, meatiness and the sauce that they brought along with their wings. The stag was embracing, friendly and accommodating to any and all requests. Ambiance of the bar is unmatched. Ask for Daniel at the bar, you will not be disappointed I can promise you that. Heard to Quahogs like it's a flash sale at the local boutique shop

John C.

Yelp
This place is quite possibly one of the worse restaurants I've ever been to. It's almost like the chef was experimenting on flavor combinations like a five year old. I mean, BBQ sauce on calamari??? BBQ sauce on plantain??? Pesto with watered down clam chowder??? Oh and the real doozie, leaving the tail on in the shrimp dumpling. Anyone who thinks the food here is edible, I guess to each their own. But man, food here sucks Hoover vacuum cleaner!!!

Yelp
Don't get your hopes too high and you can really enjoy this place. Wowed me: - Oyster Shooters!!! - Chickpea Salad - Gin Cocktail - Amount of food in the lobster bake - Great, friendly service Less Impressive: - Chewy octopus - Movie theater butter - Flavorless, shriveled corn The ambiance is pretty loud, which is nice and festive but can be hard to talk. My cocktail was made with fresh citrus and off the hook delicious. The platter was huge and we enjoyed dipping bread in the broth it came in. It's not the tenderest lobster and clams you'll find but it's a ton of food for just $50, we enjoyed ourselves and thought it was a fun experience. Good service made it even better. -

Yelp
I like the outdoor atmosphere but was really disappointed in my crab cake dinner this week. They were extremely fishy tasting. I mean I know their crab which is fish but yuck! And it was $30 I believe and I couldn't eat it. What a waste. I've had good crab cakes that don't taste like that i tried lemon to cut the fishiness but didn't work. My daughter's Mac n cheese was just okay. I will say the short rib tacos my mom had were very yummy and flavorful and the best of the three meals. So the consistency at Quahogs unfortunately is very different. One meal can be great and others awful. My margarita was also just okay. I've had better drinks at other places this week.

Yelp
Go for buck a shuck oyster but go early because they are only available at the bar for one hour. Bartender was Mr. Boring so you won't be entertained but then again when will you get $1 oysters. $9 Margaritas but weak booze. Nice laid-back atmosphere. Started off very back...Had the clam chowder. Sent it back, it was that bad. No clams, no potatoes and no good. All cream and very overdone with sherry. Please redo your recipe. It's a wild mess and if you don't know it go back to elementary cooking class. Next, had the shrimp ceviche in leche de tigre. Very good. Fresh. Plenty of shrimp. But served in a soup bowl. Not very elegant but whatever. Lobster roll, very good. Good amount of lobster and reasonably priced considering we paid more for the same in Maine. Recommend.

Yelp
Booked a table for 9 and a baby for a Sunday night birthday dinner. I had the whole lobster and it was a beauty- may have been the best lobster I had! We ordered oyster shooters and Quahogs variation was unique and tasty. Service was very good and every request satisfied quickly. Will definitely return.

Yelp
Opens at 5 PM, we had a reservation for party of 4 at 5 PM. At 5:15 PM we were still waiting to be seated. I over heard the hostess tell the staff to push to tables together for a party of 11. When I questioned her about why we were not seated, she rudely told me that she didn't want to over burden the wait staff with too many tables. This made me see red! There are too many better restaurants in Stone Harbor and Avalon to put up with rude people! I'm here all summer long and will not be visiting Quahog's anytime soon!

Dan D.

Yelp
Horrible! Don't go here. $38 crabcake, zero lump crab meat, way too much scallions. 6 rings of calamari for $15, and they would not give us marinara sauce, even though it's in the kitchen. The waitress told us it was on the other side of the kitchen and cooks do not like changing things. The wait staff obviously has no training. I would have given it a zero if there was an option.

Jeffrey C.

Yelp
Great lobster rolls 50% mayo with lots of warm mayo spread over the top. Basically inedible. A second alcohol drink was delivered to the table after the entre came. I won't come back, neither should you.
google avatar

Yelp
Awesome atmosphere and a gem place. You get a chickpea salad to start with (instead of bread). I love getting the mussels or calms to start. They always have great specials so make sure to check those out. The fish tacos are to die for and I have dreams about them. Service and drinks are always great too! Sangria I really enjoy. Previous summers, it seemed like they overbooked themselves and even if you had reservations you'd have to wait but so far this summer you haven't. Couldn't ask for a better place

Yelp
I saw this place on a Food Network show many years ago, always had it on the list of NJ restaurants "to try," and kind of stumbled upon it on a recent trip to the Cape May area. I tried their famous seafood stew, Moqueca (reminiscent of a Thai, green, coconut fish curry), which was great, and my dinner partner tried the clam bake, which was...well, not so great. Maybe we're simply not fans of the clam bake in general, but this one seemed more like a "clam boil" bathing in a broth of salted vinegar water. My dinner partner has a talent for ordering the worst dish off of generally good menus, so we chalked it up to this. We also ordered the Watermelon Mojito, which looked like it would taste like watermelon (because it was red enough), but which tasted like a regular mojito. We finished our meal with a slice of fairly decent key lime pie, but the slice was a bit skimpier than normal. And not the most diverse crowd -- definitely got some stares from patrons that apparently had never seen brown people before (or who were amazed people like us could afford this place) -- but I might return when I'm in the area again. Moqueca: 4/5 Clam Bake: 1/5 Watermelon Mojito: 2/5 Oysters (Raw Bar): 4/5 Key Lime Pie: 3/5

Madeline W.

Yelp
The young hostess was extremely rude upon our arrival. Not to mention the food was almost inedible. Save your $38 and skip the crab cakes-- there was no actual crabmeat. Also would not recommend the fish tacos. The only decent thing during our meal were the drinks.

Kelsey N.

Yelp
This was a very underwhelming meal. We started off with the specialty cocktail. It tasted like a strawberry margarita you could buy premade in the grocery store. They were pretty picturesque though! We got steamed mussels to start and half of them were cold. They were served over a bed of canned tomatoes. Not very good. For meals, I ordered the fish tacos which were doused with some sort of crema and cheese. The fish wasn't proportional. It also didn't really seem fresh. Again, the food was lukewarm at best. My companion ordered the coconut shrimp po-boy. He was also underwhelmed with the blandness and had to pour ketchup all over it. This was lukewarm as well. The ambiance and service were great! Overall, we felt we overpaid and under-received.
google avatar

Lee H.

Yelp
Food was average, calamari was chewy, complementary chick pea salad was bland, crab cakes tasted good but had consistency of croquettes and could have used some lumps of crab for $36. Tartar sauce was very good. Service was excellent. We were seated promptly and our food was delivered more quickly than expected. Server was attentive. Ambiance was disappointing. We were seated at a small top table in the bar area where the tables were too close together. The music was so loud it was difficult to have a conversation without speaking loudly to our dinner companions. Our ears are still ringing 1/2 hour after leaving the restaurant. If we were to try Quahog's again we would request an outdoor table in the back room because it was quieter and more civilized.

Yelp
The food here is delicious. We try to make it here for takeout every time we're in Stone Harbor. Due to its popularity sometimes the wait times are long or you may have to wait longer than the time they quote you when you place your order. It's super small inside so you have to wait outside on the sidewalk or bench. The pricing is a bit on the high side, but it is fresh seafood in one of the shore towns that tends to draw a wealthier crowd so I get it. Plus they're trying to make enough money in 3 months to get them through the rest of the year. But might be tough to swing a large family order if on a budget. My husband and I ordered a bunch of food when we visited last summer and brought it home and had a feast! Pictured: burrito, empanadas, shrimp ceviche and a few other things (I think one was the seafood stew). The portions aren't enormous but are reasonable. I think it was around $100 for our order and it was definitely too much for 2 people, but we had leftovers the next day!

Nick S.

Yelp
Some of the best food I have had in the area. Loved the dive bar decor and vibe. Limited wine list but solid. Definitely not a "fancy" place, but there is a lot of care given to the food. Even for a Monday night, they knocked it out of the park!
google avatar

Rebekah M.

Yelp
My husband and I picked this for our dating anniversary. What a special meal this was. Everything from the service to the cocktails and especially the food was beyond fantastic. It feels like they know you when you come here and just want you to feel at home and have a great time. I definitely see us returning again just cause we enjoyed every aspect of the meal.
google avatar

Tarra M.

Yelp
The service was good the food was bland. This is coming from someone who likes blander food. I had the crab balls and they were filled with bacon and the server insisted they were not made with bacon even though I pulled a huge chunk out.. the clam linguine tasted like water. Others in my party had fish tacos said they were pretty good ! The coconut seafood stew was creamy and I wish I ordered that instead even though that could have been better. Clam chowder was good but weird. Had a strange spice in it plus more bacon which I don't like. My son loves all chowders and wouldn't eat it. Not worth the $300 bill I had to pay. We won't be back.

Dora G.

Yelp
Great food, service and drinks! Love the lobster roll! Make sure you make a reservation. Very popular.
google avatar

Alexis R.

Yelp
Service wasn't great, food was pretty good but not a lot of seafood options-definitely not a seafood shack, more upscale. I was hoping to was like mikes seafood or the lobster house . Adorable atmosphere .
google avatar

Raj S.

Yelp
Good food, we got takeout to eat at our house at the beach. The food was good, a little pricey but that's to be expected here.

Lynne L.

Yelp
Food inconsistent. Shrimp in shrimp cocktail were mushy. Seafood stew very good - lots of tasty seafood. Clam chowder all cream liquid - no clams/seafood and no taste/seasoning. Shrimp taquitos acceptable but overpriced. Coffee served was cold. No sugar available, only Splenda. First visit and last.
google avatar

Andrew R.

Yelp
I'm willing to suggest this is one of, if not the, best restaurants in Stone Harbor. If you have kids...be sure to order the shark bite Shirley Temples.

Tim T.

Yelp
Food was great But No working restrooms ! Many people told the hostess yet nothing was done
google avatar

James T.

Yelp
We loved the ambiance. The drinks were great. Beef empanadas were outstanding. The ceviche and steamed clams weren't our favorite, but we'd definitely go back

Andrew V.

Yelp
Our experience started off poorly with Quahog's not honoring our reservation. We arrived on time and had to wait over 30 minutes for our table. When we asked about the length of the wait we were given a rude response. Once we were seated, the quality of the food was subpar. The crab cakes tasted like chicken nuggets and the pasta sauce resembled bathwater. We've dined at Quahog's for over 10 years and have never had such a poor experience. We would think twice before returning.

WendyJo V.

Yelp
Absolutely terrible. To understand my background here - I've been coming to Stone Harbor since I was a child. I have three family members who have now lived on the island for over 20 years. My husband and I popped into this restaurant tonight, and one dish was worse than the next. The seafood bisque is some weird tomato-based soup. I would never call it a bisque. My crab puppies were lukewarm, and served with a cold tomato sauce, which made them taste very cold. The crabcakes are overly fried, and with no flavor. My husband's steamed clams also had no flavor. I see no reason to ever go back here. The only thing this Restaurant has is location, as it is on a very affluent island. Please find another place to eat. Please don't support a business, serving mediocre, overpriced food, to tourists. I always say, in my reviews, would I go back here? Hell no.

C M.

Yelp
Old menu was better. Hostile service by the angry bartender. He was so nasty to the customers. Rude! Used to recommend but it's gone downhill. Plenty of other places to eat. Better service and better food.

Chris J.

Yelp
Service absolutely spectacular as Always!!! Portions are large! You will NEVER leave hungry!!!

Yelp
My basic impression was: Overrated. Nothing bad to say about the food or service or setting, but nothing outstanding either. Server was very courteous. Oysters and mac/cheese were quite adequate. Jambalaya was more of a paella, and most likely an "empty the cupboard" preparation, using up all the leftover seafood & other ingredients. Ditto the tuna quesadilla, which appeared to have been made with either canned tuna or leftover tuna cooked into submission and smothered in mayonnaise and cheese. The famous Fish Ribs were not available. Expensive, for an informal place that gets you in and out rapidly (we were out in 50 minutes flat). Again, I don't really have anything bad to say -- it's just that after all the "Top 30" publicity, Guy Fieri visit, etc, etc, they seem to be coasting. Make a reservation, or get there very early. Parking is a challenge.

Yelp
Amazing atmosphere!!!!!!!!! Watermelon mojitos were awesome. Staff was super friendly & fun. Calamari appetizer was amazing. Chick pea salad was superb. Portions were generous. A must visit when near, it is a staple going forward for me when I visit the Jersey Shore.

Jessica R.

Yelp
Went to Quahog's last Saturday. Started with the crab taquitos special, guac, and tuna "tartar". (I) taquitos were factually tacos & shell was over fried and greasy. Crab filling was eh. (ii) guac was highlight of entire meal. (iii) tuna "tartar" was really a ceviche which we had ordered specifically instead of the 2 "ceviches" enumerated on menu. Complete ruination of sushi grade tuna. Inedible. Also had an oyster shooter - apparently they do not clean the keepsake shot glass for you and had to wipe it out myself. I ordered the special paella. Actually the worst dish I have had come out in a restaurant in 5+ years. The stench of fishiness pervaded but perhaps the worst offender was the mussel that texture-wise resembled a hardened rubber band. Actually uncuttable with a knife. Sent it back and asked for salmon catch of day, which was surprisingly edible, although the choice to serve a fish fillet with a cheesy gratin was interesting. Notably, while they took the paella off the bill, they did not comp the replacement entree which was surprising to me given the inedibility of the paella. Honestly, they clearly print money at this place and the apparent lack of pride/care in food preparation is apparent. No need to care that much about mediocrity at best when you are turning tables every 45 minutes in a packed house. That said, our waiter Logan was excellent and should be commended. He is in a tough spot and was great at customer service. Could leave the haughty hostesses behind though.

Curt R.

Yelp
Saw this joint on triple D awhile Back. Lives up to the show for sure. All of our meals were nicely prepared fresh and were plentiful. It was pricey for sure but it is a resort town so it is to be expected. Would definitely go back!

Yelp
My husband found this place while researching options for dinner. Neither of us were aware that diners drive-in and dives had visited this place despite being fans of the show. There was a short wait for a table and we lucked out getting two seats at their small bar as a couple were leaving as we arrived. We decided to stay at the bar after looking over there somewhat small menu. Usually I like to check out a menu prior to going when it's a new place but I didn't this time. I found the menu lacking in items I would be interested in eating so we stayed at the bar and ordered appetizers. The bartender was lacking in personality and could have brushed up on his table service. I did find out in talking with the couple next to me that the bar was newly added a year ago. The shrimp tacos were very tasty and crispy. The fish ribs were amazingly good. The skin was cooked perfectly and the bbq flavor profile was delicious with an Asian twist. There were a lot of bones which isn't to my liking but fortunately they were big enough to avoid. There was only one bathroom that I could find located where you entered which was fine however it was out of paper towels which was disappointing nothing like having to dry your hands on your clothes. Food was a 4. Service a 2. Leaving me to rate this establishment a 3.

Yelp
Made a reservation on open table for 7:45 which was the next time available after a movie which ended at 6:45. I called the restaurant directly later in the day and asked if we could move our reservation up but they said that they were booked. We didn't want to hang out for an hour so we checked in at 7:00 and were seated immediately. Only about half the tables were taken. We were seated on the patio but the music inside was blaring. I don't know how it was possible to have a conversation let alone a peaceful meal. The patio was very relaxing. The restaurant was well staffed, attentive and courteous. We always look at the menu and specials which looked appealing but always get the Moqueca which is a Brazilian fish stew served over coconut rice. In addition to fish, it has shrimp, mussels, clams, and calamari served in a bowl with crusty bread. If you haven't had it you must try it. My oysters were excellent, cleaned and opened properly. It has a nice casual vibe and most nights there is a drink special. I had a half price margarita which was excellent. We have been going for years and frankly there have been some ups and downs but the place is running smoothly and the food is worth the price. I highly recommend it.

Yelp
We have loved happy hour seatings at the bar!! The oysters have been awesome, the crowd has been fun, and the bartender's and the shuckers are awesome!!!!

Yelp
Honestly my favorite seafood restaurant on the island. It's a little noisy and crowded but the service was great, and the food is awesome. There are Cajun influences to the menu, so if you're spice-averse check the menu first.

Yelp
Good food! However, the wait and seating logistics leave much to be desired. First experience great second not so much we ended up walking out after having to wait for our reserved table about 30 min after they opened just to be seated outside while it was raining with everything soaked and music blaring.

Yelp
I've been going to quahogs for many summers and I'll never go back. The food is dramatically over priced and not that great. How hard is it to grill tuna? Apparently it takes three attempts and on the final attempt it's so dry that it is inedible. Plus if you order the catch of the day they add another $4. Can someone tell me why? The servers are extremely inexperienced and it shows. Love the homemade chickpea salad. But the portion was good for maybe one person at a table of four. It took about ten minutes to get the glass of wine and the food came out so sporadically. The kitchen has no concept of timing. The table next to us. Kid gots his pasta, one adult got his lobster bake, 10-15 minutes later another adult got her salad and then the fourth person - his entree never came. They gave up. It then took about ten minutes to just get the check. Ok back to our meal. Did the server or anyone acknowledge the mess up in the kitchen? Did they offer to adjust the bill or free app? Nope. Nothing. Due to the outdoor dining and the location I know they'll have a constant crowd but if you want good food, at a reasonable price ($52 for a lobster at a clam shack?) then stay away. Definitely a major letdown this summer!

Yelp
This place is incredible. My favorite restaurant on the planet. I come here with my family multiple times every summer and we're never disappointed. Service is always good, the shrimp ceviche is amazing, and there's a big drink menu. it provides high quality food without feeling like too fancy or uppity of a restaurant, a perfect balance. I'd birth a child here, 10/10

Yelp
I wanted to order takeout - 7:56 online, wouldn't go through so I called the restaurant and they wouldn't take my order. We've gone to Quahogs a number of times, food has been good but this customer experience - thumbs down. I'm disappointed.

Yelp
Another returning Quahog's customer here, quite surprised at the current mismanagement of the restaurant. We had a 6:30 p.m. reservation on a Thursday, and we waited alongside tons of other groups who also had reservations. Finally seated at 7:15. Someone is doing it wrong.
