"An unsung restaurant tucked into a nondescript Lawndale strip mall, this completely ordinary-looking place might actually have some of the best Indian food in the South Bay. The butter chicken, palak paneer, dal makhani, and specialty fish curry with coconut milk and lemongrass are all very good to excellent, best paired with the fluffy steamed basmati rice or garlic naan. Most people will want to take the food to go as the dining room is more functional than actually pleasant. But there are a smattering of tables who want their Indian food as fresh as possible." - Matthew Kang

"This unassuming strip mall in Lawndale could be the best Indian food in the South Bay. Preorder online for the smoothest service, where the kitchen will prepare intensely spiced dal makhani, complex channa masala with plump garbanzo beans and some of the most immediately delicious butter chicken in LA. The palak paneer is another winner, with nicely sized paneer cubes settled into a thick paste of cooked spinach." - Virali_Dave, Eater Staff

"I’ve been on the hunt for the area’s best Indian food, and I think after six-plus years of searching in the South Bay (and eating through a dozen spots), I’ve found my favorite. Quality of Bombay lives in a sleepy Lawndale strip mall along bustling Hawthorne Boulevard, lost among fast-food restaurants and some very good pho shops. Quality of Bombay looks unremarkable, but the flavors coming from its pots are anything but." - Eater Staff

Been to this restaurant 2X already. Love the food here. If you are looking for authentic Indian food I would recommend going to this restaurant. A Nepali family runs this restaurant and they were really nice. Great customer service. Their portion of food was very good. I would recommend trying out their chicken momos and get it spicy. Absolutely delicious. We would definitely go there again.

Google
Great food. Bold flavors. Never had a bad meal. Recommend the butter chicken. They use real ghee (I think) gives it a wonderful flavor and extremely tender tandoori style chicken. Don’t skimp the side if rice they give you a lot. Their vegetable samosa is wonderfully flaky with some homemade chutneys.

We usually eat in we call it the Bombay but during these times of changes that we have to adapt to and everything getting so in tensely expensive for delivery we do pick up our self order from home bring it out and display it so we can share the wonderful food and Photos at the Bombay so fresh delicious not too hot just enough flavor and really a great portion! Back to the delivery companies that are handling the drop offs they are absolutely fantastic hard-working people who are just getting by like everybody else but there is a point where you have to make different decisions regarding outdoor food brought to your house everybody is on a tight budget but I certainly am glad there are wonderful people out there taking on this intense job of bringing food from one point to the other I think them for that! I can tell you Bombay is one of the first places that I would go when I’ve got that taste for international cuisine as well as trying to help them stay in business I thank the owners for keeping their door open for us they are magnificent people and great friends to everybody. Thank you many times quality of Bombay we hope to sit in and dine with you soon we love your food from the kids to the grown-ups there’s always something great to eat. And just the friendship and the friendliness of the whole staff everybody are so wonderful nobody is better than nobody else! I would recommend this place over and over and over again! I would even go out of my way to drive long distance to pick up food or eat in which I really like there is a very peaceful and loving atmosphere and that’s without anybody speaking. Give it a try you don’t have to eat there every day but if you want a great place to eat I guarantee you this is one that you will never forget. Thank you Bombay for the excellent service and food and kindness.

Google
My food was super tasty. I ordered the Lamb seekh kabab, naan( huge btw ), and veg samosas the whole meal came out to $30.63. I was disappointed that the kabab dish just came on a bed of onions and no sides for the price i think it should at least include at least a couple of small sides. The man who took my order was polite and helpful. Over all the only reason I gave 4 stars is for the lack of included sides with the kabab I think for $18 some sides should be included. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu.

Google
This place was amazing. The food was great and the service - even better. I highly recommend it if you are serious about your Indian food taste.

Google
It's a mom and pop kind of spot, due to current times most of their business traffic is ordering to-go, but I still came in to dine-in.... Samosas - we're good and tasty with spicy and sweet tasting sauces. Chicken curry - fresh and tender chicken, it melted in my mouth and the curry tasted fresh made from scratch Lamb Biryani - good tasting rice with lots of herbs and yummy tasting lamb chuncks Garlic naan- tasted great and fresh Everything was made to order, expect to wait, and tasted like it was made from scratch.....so gooooood

Google
Their butter chicken and garlic naan is very delicious and amazing. Very authentic Indian food. Great service

Yelp
Nothing less than 5 stars for this place. I order from this restaurant frequently and it hits every time. This is the only Indian restaurant in the South Bay I will eat at because the food is actually really good and tastes home made. The food comes pretty mild if you'd like, but they can also make it spicy if you ask. My favorites here Samosa chaat Chicken biryani Aloo gobi Aloo palak

Yelp
We had take away for lunch. Ordered - lamb vindaloo (spicy) - lamb korma (spicy) - naan - roti - rice Meat was well cooked. And had no bones, which was a big positive. Some places put nothing but bone in the lamb orders. Spicy was not very spicy. Flavors were great. Each curry was in the common small take out liquids container. Not a big portion. Will consider dining in if we return to see if portions are different.

Ramzi L.

Yelp
Ambiance 7 tables very like a street side restaurant. No tuxedos here. Probably more take out and delivery. I'm doing takeaway. Chicken Vindaloo medium white rice and plain Naan, $20 Flavour is good. Different from Other vindaloos I have had. Spicy medium but more on the mild side. Service was by the cashier and probably cook. No complaints. Would I go back? Maybe to try a different dish. But it was hot and the rilxe was very good.

Yelp
Omg the food is so good here. I got the Samosa and Mamos for starters. Then we got a curry each. The flavors were on point. Maybe even better than what I ever had in Delhi! Must come back soon.

Yelp
We love this place. After a thoroughly satisfying Friday night visit, we were eagerly looking forward to coming back as soon as possible. We were tempted to order takeout during the week, but ended up returning the next Friday night. For an added twist, I did a blind taste test with the family by ordering chicken tikka masala, butter chicken (chicken korma from Al Noor), garlic naan, and rice from both Quality of Bombay and Al Noor. I picked up the orders, so nobody at home knew which dish came from which restaurant. See my review of Al Noor for the other perspective. I'm no expert on Indian food as I've never had chicken tikka masala in London, but we did find that the richness and Quality of Bombay's dishes far outshined Al Noor. I've been to Al Noor several times over the years, but was never impressed. The chicken tikka masala was creamy and thick with a nice level of spiciness. There were generous pieces of chicken that were nicely marinated and had a nice color to it. The butter chicken had a similar color and consistency to the tikka masala, but does have a slightly richer flavor. Garlic naan was less bready and puffy than Al Noor's. The order of rice was very generously sized. Portion sizes for takeout seems to be more generous than eating in overall.

Kimberly K.

Yelp
I got the chicken tiki marsala and my friend got the lamb mandala. Both were delicious, but I preferred the lamb. Naan was yummy, but next time I'll get the garlic Naan. Only takeaway was the ambience. Not suitable to enjoy a meal. Get your food to go and you'll be happy.

Shakalohana A.

Yelp
Soooooooooooo good! Food was fresh and hot, service with a smile. Excellent prices. Home style excellent yum!

Mai Y.

Yelp
Food was extremely delicious and flavorful! We decided to dine here to ensure we had food that was hot and directly from the kitchen (which is our favorite way to eat Indian food!). The staff was friendly as well. Definitely looks like a hole in the wall place but we loved how simple, easy, and fast our dining experience was. We ordered the butter garlic chicken, saag aloo, garlic naan, and veggie rice (biryani). So hard to pick what my favorite was because I loved it all! Highly recommend if you're looking to venture past the usual tikki masala. OMG and get the mango drink! It was our first time ever having it and we were hooked!

Yelp
Bombay restaurant is a small Indian eatery tucked away in a corner strip mall in Lawndale Ca. With a group of 7 hungry diners, we tried an array of classic dishes like lamb biryani, chicken biryani, onion naan, fish curry, chicken curry and potato curry. For appetizers, the momos and fried shrimp were standouts. The flavors across the board were above average, with the fish curry and chicken biryani being particularly exceptional. With just 4 tables max, the intimate setting is better suited for takeout.

Andrea V.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite Indian restaurants in the area. It is mind-blowingly delicious. We always do the chicken tikka masala, as all white people do lol. It's one of the best over ever had. We love their samosas as well. Also the guy behind the counter is always very friendly. Their staff are quite lovely. This spot is a new staple for us and I'm so grateful I found it!!

Jessica S.

Yelp
Service was good and great amount of food for the price. No choice of spice level when ordering online, so food was a bit bland. Chicken tikka masala a bit too rich/creamy (tastes more like butter chicken). Rice and naan were great. Raita not good (I substituted with Trader Joe's tzatziki).

Jay L.

Yelp
Really good Indian food. Had the chicken, tiki masala and the butter chicken with an order of rice and an order of the samosas. All good.

Liz C.

Yelp
Great fresh food , great people and great service Coconut rice garlic bread is a must try.

Dave G.

Yelp
Al Noor was closed tonight, and having a strong hankerin' for some Indian style vittles (you like the contrast there between Indian and southern?) I decided to try this place out based on its good Yelp review. I got the Chicken Tikka Masala and Palak Paneer and some garlic naan. I have to say that it was "decent" but not great, and certainly nowhere near as good as Al Noor is. The service was good, no issues. And the prices are certainly very good. But it's all about the food and I was not impressed. So I guess in this regard it is Pakistan 1, India 0.

Isabel R.

Yelp
Best Indian food I've had...food is fresh, creamy, and delicious. I've ordered takeout a few times and the food never disappoints. Portions are generous and the food is ready quickly.

Jennifer O.

Yelp
The food was so amazing, this was my first time trying Indian food and I have definitely decided to make this place the top on my list. Their Lassi was actually the best drink i've ever had in my life I could drink one every day. I love the service, Anjum served me and she's so kind and amazing and made sure I was okay. I also love the ambiance of the place it's really amazing because it's small and you feel comfortable being there.

Frank E.

Yelp
This is easily my best-ever Indian restaurant, although it's really set up mostly for takeout and delivery (and a few small tables for dining in). Prices are mostly under $20/person for a full meal; they also offer catering, which works out to be a bit more economical. New Host Ram (for a couple of years since ownership changed) is warm and inviting. Also, Chef Bijay keeps whipping up outstanding dishes one after another, and I've rarely been left waiting more than about 6-8 minutes for my meals here. Other reviews note the chicken dishes as excellent. While I have had chicken here, it was when they still had a buffet--which the pandemic unfortunately put an end to. I've vowed to try more menu items, but I'm so fond of my usual order that Chef Bijay sees me and asks, "The usual?" and I'm known to go with what I know will be superb. Ram & staff have kept up the deliciousness of the LAMB SAAG (which even days later from the fridge is still amazingly flavorful and smooth), my #1 go-to Indian meal. With basmati rice, it's just under $20 (and worth every cent). I also recommend the chicken tikka masala (covered in the traditional thick red cooking paste). Moist and tasty--hot from the tandoori oven. Not only is the staff here kind and friendly, they know how to make DELICIOUS INDIAN DISHES with very-consistently-high quality. My highest recommendation: Five Stars!

Juliana W.

Yelp
Was craving butter chicken, but didn't feel like making it myself. This place was the closest to offer butter chicken. Ordered through the yelp app, and the timing for the wait was spot on. Not too long. Since I make butter chicken myself, I knew it was a safe bet for my husband, who didn't know what to order. The service was fast. The portions were generous- my husband and I shared the butter chicken, 2 kema samosas, garlic naan, and vegetable pakoras. The chicken was HOT and had a wonderful flavor; lots of chicken pieces. The kema samosas were nice and crunchy, with a tender middle, and FULL. The vegetables were crunchy, and flavorful. The rice was perfect - and you get a lot for so low price. Same with the garlic naan - soft, warm, and chock full of garlicky goodness. I was completely satisfied. New favorite spot. Want to try more.

Sian D.

Yelp
The food is all freshly made, you can see them working on your order in the kitchen. Very friendly service and I will definitely come again when we are in the area. I would have taken photos of our food, but it was so good we ate it all.

Wendy Sue N.

Yelp
Overall, I was disappointed with my first try of the quality Bombay Indian cuisine. I am an Indian food lover, and was excited that there's a place close to my home to get Indian food. I ordered just two entrées, and with the naan and the rice as extra charges, the bill was $40!! My favorite Indian dish, chicken tikka masala, was bland and the chicken was very dry and cubed. Felt like it was a frozen chicken as opposed to fresh. Their Navaratna Korma was delicious though! Also, they did not add any chutney or ask me if I wanted any. Not as another side order, just a little on the side.

Sarah A.

Yelp
My goodness! This is where it is at! I was in Indian Food heaven. I didn't want it to come to an end as I savored every bite of my meal. The Butter Chicken is packed and loaded w so much flavor. I asked for "medium" spice and I'm glad that I did because my husband's "extra spicy " was very hot, but still delicious, and the garlic bread and rice binds everything together so beautifully. I cannot wait to eat this lovely cuisine again. I highly recommend it. I also want to give a big thank you to RUM for his noble service and the great energy he provided. He is such a lovely man. The chef is also kind and knows a thing or two about the kitchen. The location is tiny but mighty. I will be back. Thanks a million!

N S.

Yelp
This is authentic Indian food - It's difficult to find good Indian food in the South Bay. Look no further , excellent food, great portions and super friendly service. They remember what I order every time, that is above and beyond to me. The naan is to die for. Don't pass on it!

Logan R.

Yelp
Hidden gem with the best Indian food I've ever had, hands down. This place deserves a Michelin star. Just wow. Blown away. I got takeout and I will *definitely* be back soon. The portion sizes were also generous. All around incredible experience.

Deanelle A.

Yelp
So good, I didn't even get a chance to take a photo of my food! This is a wonderful little hole in the wall, friendly staff and delicious food. Portions are plentiful. We love to order chicken tikka masala & saag paneer are staples. The vegetable korma is delicious and eaten with garlic naan to scoop up all the sauce left behind. The samosa choke chat gives you, sweet, sour, spicy, savory! So good, must try!

Angelica S.

Yelp
Hidden gem, one of the better options in the South Bay. Not a ton of space to eat inside but an excellent option for take out.

Olly K.

Yelp
Great food. Very authentic. Good portions and prices. Highly recommend. Tikka masala is the best. Don't forget the garlic naan! Staff super friendly and fast.

Karl G.

Yelp
Wonderful, small Indian restaurants. One of the few that serve matar paneer - delish! Everything I've tried is quite tasty including chicken masala, butter, and vindaloo.

Vanessa H.

Yelp
Our go to for Indian food in LA. We generally order tikka masala and nan, both very delicious!

A. M.

Yelp
It's not a pretty space, but the food is outstanding...the best Indian I've had in the South Bay.

Ingrid X W.

Yelp
I am from South Asia and find the curry's to be so delicious. Very good portions and friendly timely customer service. I only get to go as the ambiance is lacking.

Sharon P.

Yelp
Fluffy and puffy garlic naan, so soft you'll swap your My Pillow for it. Really good naan, but be careful because if you eat too much of it, you'll ruin your appetite. I ordered via Yelp for a 6pm pickup and like clockwork my order was ready. Easy in and out of the parking lot and swift and friendly service made the transaction super efficient. I'd much rather dine in, but this little joint isn't set up for a crowd and since the stay at home order hasn't been lifted, takeout or delivery is it. Let's get this state going again! Everything I ordered was good, fresh, nicely spiced all as expected. We of course could have gone much more spicy hot, but that doesn't change the rating. The food is good, but I did notice some of the portions were smaller than some other places. The basmati and lamb biryani portions were decent, but the amount of lamb was minimal, I recall seeing just one chunk of lamb. Raita was a good amount...and though two of us were nicely filled, had the 3rd joined us (and we controlled ourselves and not over indulged on garlic naan) we typically have about leftovers for 2-3 more meals. Not critical, just an observation. The chicken in the Chicken 65 and Tikka masala seemed dry to me, but the sauce made up for that. The sauce in the Lamb Bhuna was a new one for me, lovely ginger and garlic and yummy with the rice. Lamb was tender. The onion bhaji was tasty, but didn't travel well as it was soggy...which is often the case with dishes fried with chickpea flour. Thumbs up on the mint and tamarind chutneys, I could eat the chutneys by themselves, so delish. The food is decent and the location is super easy to navigate. With so many Indian options around we would likely try them before giving this little place another try, but I am not ruling it out. Everything was good, albeit a tad bit pricey ($103 including a 20% tip)0 for the portions, but maybe that's just me...and I need to get out more. We all do.

Nikita S.

Yelp
The food was subpar for indian food but it was fast! Food was ready in 15 minutes. It was mostly sweet, not spicy, and underseasoned.

Carol Anne M.

Yelp
Super yummy. I came for lunch. I wanted a combination and they made one for me. The Tikki chicken masala was to die for. Also had the spinach, cauliflower and potatoes. Fresh garlic naan and gulab jamun. So hot. So fresh. Place didn't seem much like a dine-in restaurant. I took to go. I ate it so fast that I didn't get to take a picture. Was enough for 2 people. I have leftovers.

Rachel P.

Yelp
GREATTTTT food!! The lamb sagg, chicken vindaloo and veggie korma are absolutely fantastic!!

Jay D.

Yelp
Do not recommend dining in. The service is slow and wait staff is unwelcoming - and sadly the food wasn't tasty enough to make up for it..

Damien R.

Yelp
If you are looking for authentic, flavorful, home style cooked Indian food - please do yourself a favor and come here. I come here about once a month and have been trying different items and it's always a hit. Great service and priced well. They also make their hot sauce in house. 5+ stars

Alejandra F.

Yelp
My first time trying Indian food and so happy it was at this place ! The service is great and everything we ordered was so delicious ! Looking forward to coming back and trying different items.

CaLyn D.

Yelp
Randomly stopped by while driving around for work. Got a plate with palaak paneer, dal, chicken tikki masala, rice and naan. It was amazing! The flavor of each item was on point. Havent had that good of indian food in a long time. Definitely recommend Just note, this place is for takeout only

Brian C.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I ate in and greatly enjoyed the food and the service. It's a small place but we weren't looking for a large fancy restaurant. The staff was very friendly and we look forward to going back.

R V.

Yelp
What can I say... Garlic Naan is my favorite, and they always make these huge peices. All the food I ordered was nice and hot still even after picking it up and bringing it home for dinner. Always friendly when I call to place my orders. I recommend this place!!

Mihiri H.

Yelp
My family and I love this place. We came here when they first opened. It was so yummy that we continue to have it whenever we want Indian food. This place is the only place that makes our food spicy enough. The place is quaint and small so dine in is tough but still doable. Food Carries well so take out is a good option. Their rices are so good. We're majority vegetarian so our options are good! Please check this place out. You won't regret it!!!!

David P.

Yelp
Best Indian food I've had thus far, very polite and genuine staff, a pleasure to have found and dined with Raum the host , must try

Juan Carlos H.

Yelp
This is quickly becoming one of my go to restaurants. I'm a simple guy so I always order the chicken tikka masala. It truly makes me happy, add on top of that rice and garlic naan and it's over. The service is always excellent! Whether it's the nice lady at the register or the nice man who cooks everything, they've always gone out of their way to accommodate me. The restaurant itself is pretty small but what it lacks in size it makes up in deliciousness. Full disclosure I've only had the chicken tikka masala, but that's because it's so amazing that I can't help but order it each time I'm there. But damn, it must all be good if just the rice itself is pretty amazing. Definitely worth checking out. No worries on parking because there is plenty available.

R M.

Yelp
It's a friendly hole-in-the-wall that does a lot of take-out business and seems to have many regular customers. While we were there, several people that came in were recognized by the owner/manager. Our meal started off well with the Vegetable Mo Mo. The dumplings come with a wonderful red, garlicky sauce that was a highlight of our dinner. My son liked everything but we were a bit disappointed. The fish in the Bombay Special Fish Curry was cooked well, but we were expecting a little more of the lemongrass flavor to come out based on the description. The shrimp in the Shrimp Saag were also cooked well and we always appreciate a place that doesn't overcook the shrimp since so many places manage to do so. The flavor of the saag was different from most of the others we've tried, so we wondered if it was due to a regional difference since there are so many possible variations. The Aloo Gobi was more moist than we usually find it to be and the sauce appeared to have more tomatoes. The Navratan Korma was very creamy and had a wide selection of vegetables. The Rice Pullow was too greasy for us and overall, we wish they had had a lighter hand with the oil in their dishes. We wish we had ordered the Plain Rice instead because it also would have tasted better with the dishes we had chosen. We ordered a couple of the dishes extra spicy but neither came with that much heat, however, nothing was too bland either. We would give them a 3.5 if we could.

Ivy Jane A.

Yelp
I ordered today and it seems the man taking my orders doesn't even know what I am talking about. I was asking for Chicken Tikka Masala and ask if it comes with rice. It's like he doesn't even know the menu and I have to figure it out myself! My order ended charging me $41 for two Chicken Tikka Masala that I don't even want. Two Rice and Two Vegetable Pakoras. I am so disappointed and all he can say is sorry. As the person taking the orders for the customer. You need to be familiar of what type your customer is trying to convey. I kept on repeating if this is a combo, does this comes with rice. I want it with rice. It seems he doesn't really know or just trying to rip me off!! This was a very disappointing experience for me. We are never going back to this place again.

Meghan G.

Yelp
This place was great! So many good options and the prices are excellent. I got the Navratan Korma and it was great! One thing to know is you need to order rice or naan as the entrees don't come with it. But the prices are really great especially with inflation being absolutely awful. The staff was really nice as well. We picked up a large order for take out but they made a point to make sure we had everything and they were super friendly

Quraisha P.

Yelp
No potato and paneer in vegetable biryani..just carrot and cauliflower!! Taste also too bad

Stephanie L.

Yelp
Easily the best chicken curry and garlic naan I've had. Delicious! Will certainly be a returning customer!

Bryan C.

Yelp
Ordered take out from this place and thought it was just okay. Not great not bad just okay. We started out with an order of vegetable Somosas and they looked like they got left in the fryer and forgotten as they were almost black. Too bad because the filling had some good flavor. For the mains we ordered goat briyani, chicken tikka masala and chicken saag. The goat briyani was the best of all the dishes. The goat had good flavor and the rice was cooked well. The chicken saag was just okay. The tikka masala was a little below average. It tasted too much of tomato sauce. The chicken was tender. The garlic naan has great flavor but I can't speak to hot fluffy and crispy it was since it was takeout. Overall I thought it was just okay I don't think I would go back since there are other options but if someone wanted to go I probably wouldn't object.
