The 17 Best Caribbean Restaurants In Philly

"There’s a ton of great Caribbean food in West Philly, and Quality Taste is up there among the best. The counter-only spot is tiny, but it’s a great place to grab some quick take-out or jerk coconut shrimp after work. Our favorites here are the curry goat and braised oxtail, but you can pick a bunch of different things and get them all served over heaps of steamy, spicy rice. " - candis mclean

Google
Fast paced in and out kinda deal! Love the food it’s fantastic. Jerk chicken cabbage and sweet potato is my go to! Prices have gone up a bit but that’s just fine because portions are great! Staff is fast food is delicious!

Google
The food here is very good. I’ve never had Jamaican food before so this was a very good introduction to it. I felt the value for the food was good as well. My only issue with it is that if you eat a lot of it at once, the saltiness becomes very overpowering. That being said, the food still tasted good as leftovers the next day. The person working that day was very patient as I had no idea what to order.

Google
Yoooo! I came to Philly for my son’s AAU tournament. I needed some great food to eat and I jumped on google to see what was around. This spot came up so I pulled up. Got here, line out the door at both spots! I was like shiid I’m about to see what krackin! Order the small white meat jerk chicken plate. When I saw dad walk there and start chopping up the jerk….I KNEW RIGHT THEN… this might be the spot. I got back to the Telly and popped my plate open! Blessed the food and when I saw the Flavor the Taste the portions EVERYTHING WAS GOOOD AF!!!!! GREATEST JERK CHICKEN DISH I EVER HAD….. so much so after the tournament today I pulled back up for the Large Plate! Will be grabbing one more before I jet back to ATL!!! & when I pull up in the city May 9th - 11th I’m pulling back up everyday I’m here for this BLESSING!!!

Google
Never been in store, only ordered on DoorDash. Very quick delivery. Food is really good, I’m from NY & it’s been hard to find real good Caribbean food. 2 stars is for finding hair in my food no bullshit on 4 different occasions, today being the 5th time. Now I know I’m the dumb one that keeps going back but I would give them another chance, that order hits the spot, order one more time & boom, a strand!

Google
I can't rate the restaurant on service and atmosphere because I've never been there but my best friend loves the place. However, I can rate the food. My best friend who is Jamaican, hooked me up with food from Quality Taste Jamaican Restaurant and let me tell you, the food was devine; the cabbage was flavorful, the goat meat was savory and tender and the rice & peas were delicious!!! As I said, I haven't been to the restaurant, but this will be my go-to spot for Jamaican food from here on out.

Google
Fantastic discovery of jerk chicken for the Frenchy that I am! Staff is nice, food is great, sauce is spicy, but not too spicy, and the dish comes with lots of vegetables options (I chose sweet potatoes + rice & beans). There are also other options than chicken like fish, but I haven’t tried it. Overall a small order is really a lot of food, that may last 2 standard meals (or 3 small ones) depending on your appetite (eating the whole thing in one time is also possible 😋) It has inspired me to try it at home, since jerk chicken is unfortunately not really a thing in France (at least not yet? 😉)

Google
Had the jerk chicken and cabbage, both were amazing. Loved that the sauce came on the side, it was delicious as well. Staff was really friendly, and the whole place had a great vibe. Definitely coming back.

Google
I found this restaurant through Google reviews. Boy! It lives its reputation!! I had curry goat, and I ordered jerk chicken and oxtail for my family. They loved it. I had to come back to buy curry chicken, curry goat, and chicken foot soup to bring back to Rochester. I couldn't wait until Rochester to eat chicken foot soup. I thought I was dead because I found myself in heaven. I haven't tasted this good soup for decades! With two visits, I had a fantastic customer service. I wasn't disappointed at all. I'm so mad at myself for not taking pictures of food. STRONGLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Yelp
I think I might of had the best Jamaican food of all time. The quality and portion size are undefeated compared to other Jamaican spots that I've been to. They're open late and their pricing is more than fair. $25 will get you a large platter which will easily feed 2 to 3 people. I also for the first time had vegetarian patties, typically I always order beef or chicken. I can honestly say I think the vegetarian ones are better than any others I've had. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
I arrived in Philadelphia early this morning from Atlanta, and I haven't had really good Jamaican food so I decided to search the closest one to downtown W. When I say, I ran to yelp to leave this review. As you will see from my pictures, I ordered the small Curry chicken along with a small fried chicken because as a Jamaican, I like to have curry gravy with my fried chicken. what I've discovered : The food absolutely delicious , it tasted as if a Jamaican was actually cooking the food. And apparently quality taste Jamaican restaurant small in Philadelphia is a large in other places, because I got so much food I can't even finish it, but I am not complaining . Needless to say, I didn't finish it, but I plan to if I can find a microwave around here because this food is way too good to waste.

Yelp
2 establishments. To the left focuses more on Jerk Chicken. To the right focuses more on stew/oxtail/fish/ etc. Service: I really like their service - fast and polite Food: good portion and price is not bad. You get two sides with your choice of platter. I wished their flavor was a bit more but nevertheless it was good.
google avatar

Taylor Y.

Yelp
My first time trying Jamaican food! We got two platters, each with two sides. We got one large platter with jerk chicken, rice and beans, and cabbage, and another with honey chicken, white rice, and lettuce. The first platter was our favorite! The rice and beans are so flavorful that I could eat an entire of that alone. This place is cash only and gets pretty busy at night. Will definitely be back!

Kelli L.

Yelp
The food is amazing, especially the jerk chicken. I would recommend this restaurant. This place is always busy, but worth the wait.

Yelp
So me and my son went here and he was begging me to come over here so we did I got a veggie patty with Mac n cheese with salmon and cabbage and sweet potatoes and it was AMAZING like this place is sooo underrated and the service was amazing this girl was so nice and the place itself was amazing so check it out.
google avatar

Jasmine S.

Yelp
Lines outside the door are generally a good sign, and quality taste did not disappoint. The flavor of the food was good and the portions of the platters were plentiful. I like that they give you the gravy on the side. You can control the amount you want on your food, and the chicken skin doesn't get soggy. During my visit I ordered the jerk chicken platter, the oxtail platter and the chicken foot soup (per my husbands request). I'm personally not a fan of chicken feet, so I skipped over it, but the flavor of the broth and other ingredients in the soup was really good. Would recommend!

Yelp
Stopped in and grabbed a few platters wanted some Jamaican food. I ordered two stewed chicken and one jerk platter. I wanted some Mac and cheese but there was a 30 minute wait for that. The food had potential although, the chicken was a little dry and not enough sauce on it for my liking. I still would like to try other options.
google avatar

Ethan T.

Yelp
Been coming here for years and they have never let me down. Hands down the best jerk chicken in Philadelphia, being so smoky and savory in the best ways and is grilled so nicely, and while the meat can be dry sometimes, their jerk sauce fixes that up perfectly. And if you order beans and rice for sides, asking for oxtail gravy over the rice is a pro move and is night and day. That being said, their oxtail is amazing, being firm tender, and so amazingly lucious and soothing. Their yams are also the perfect compliment to all their savory foods, not being too sweet while having a custard like consistency being cooked perfectly. Definitely order online through doordash or grubhub before coming for pickup or you will be waiting for at least 30 min (locals know what's up). Do yourself a favor and try their jerk chicken, and watch your life change

Yelp
It's smells delicious from the outside but the food was not flavorful as I thought it would be and I only ordered from there because they're always seemed to be crowded but maybe they weren't and it was just the people standing around outside because the food don't match the smell never again. I've had better way better.....
google avatar

Yelp
The food is excellent and the service is just as great . Love this place . The line is always log and I see why

Yelp
Great food! Service was a bit slow but I didn't know I could call ahead. So I just went in. Cash only as well. I got the jerk chicken platter and it was good and it was A LOT of food for the money so good value. The jerk chicken is great. Cooked to perfection and smells soooooooo good. Mac and cheese is extra like guac! The mac wasn't that good but probably gpt the bottom of the barrel so I would try it again.

Toni B.

Yelp
This is the 3rd time this year that I've tried their food. We purchased the curry chicken and the jerk chicken. The taste of the curry chicken was mediocre at best, and the jerk chicken was all dark meat and very dry. After the 2nd time that I was disappointed with the quality of their food, I didn't want to give them my business again. I was overruled by a family member who refused to believe how much the taste of their food has so significantly declined. Now they believe me! This will be the last time any of us waste our time and money.

Yelp
MY regular spot was closed early (ran out of food which is typical lol) so I came over to Quality Taste. This location is fairly new-ish and I only remember eating here once like 6 months ago. The line was a little long, but they actually moved faster than I expected. I'd usually order food and come back in 30 minutes, but it wasn't necessary this time. A main and two sides ranges form $8-15 with seafood basically being on the higher end. This go round I ordered the jerk chicken with yams, cabbage, and rice n' beans. The ONLY gripe I have is that I asked for gravy TWICE and there was none on my food. Don't get me wrong, the food can still be good without the gravy, but that gravy goodness just brings the whole thing together. My food could have benefited from some more seasoning for sure, but I'll never really know since I WAS MISSING THE GRAVY. The chicken had good char and those lovely burnt ends, but was a little dry because I WAS MISSING THE GRAVY. OVerall I would go back if my regular spot is closed as long as I'm not MISSING THE GRAVY.

Yelp
Awesome. Only doing carry out, line moves pretty fast.. great food will be back again & again

Mary Z.

Yelp
Amazing food. Large portions. So much for the price. I got a small jerk chicken plate and it was amazing- I had it for 3 meals

Justine M.

Yelp
The oxtails was very dry. No gravy sauce. The meat was dried out. No moisture at all. The macaroni had an abundance of cheese but very bland. The Lima beans was dry inside the rice. Food must've with nobody watching it. I wouldn't try again.

Cris F.

Yelp
food is Very good, worth the price. last time i got curry chicken (or jerk cant recall now) but food is sooo good and its always full of customer right up to the door (that says a lot) if u dont order ahead prepare for a short wait cuz this place is popular & the staff is friendly to customers

Chuck N.

Yelp
Great little takeout joint. Absolutely delicious, and truly authentic Jamaican food, massive portions, and excellent prices. Can't say enough good things about this place!

Mohammed A.

Yelp
Best Jamaican food ever made I love the jerk chicken and the curry chicken Served quick

Mia H.

Yelp
Food was ok Gave a whole plate of rice very little meat For the price they need to give better portion
google avatar

Jalessa T.

Yelp
Quality Taste is currently offering take out only, masks are required, and they're limiting the amount of patrons inside the restaurant when ordering. Wait times aren't long and you can call ahead to place your order. Prior to COVID-19 they accepted card and cash payments, but at this time they're doing CASH ONLY. The food is great, I'd recommend it if you're looking for Jamaican food.

Sam B.

Yelp
Went there for jerk chicken they had no sides besides rice and cabbage and server gave attitude
google avatar

Gloria E.

Yelp
Sunday brunch in the neighborhood has been a goal of mine, and I'm glad this was my first pick! Jerk chicken, curry goat, Jamaican patties, and a huge crowd that obviously loves this neighborhood spot. Mini, small and large platters all have a significant amount of food. Bone in chicken and goat is super flavorful and fresh, and you can see them replenishing everything in the back with fresh cooked food. Clean environment and packed, but surprisingly fast service! Had just enough time to settle on an option, debate the pros and cons, and switch last minute as i usually do. Definitely would recommend, and I'll be coming back to try as much as I can!
google avatar

Disa R.

Yelp
Man, it's been a minute since I've had good Jamaican food and this place got me back on track. Centrally located, the restaurant is right on the corner with a can't-miss sign. Price point is very reasonable and the flavor is there. My friend and I ordered the jerk meal with rice and peas and steamed cabbage. My friend ordered the Mac and cheese with her meal. The staff was very nice and the line, while long, moved quickly. We each ordered small plates and have enough for 2.5 meals. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Che D.

Yelp
First time ordering here and the food was ok. Nothing special. I had the jerk chicken and it wasn't well seasoned. I could barely taste any jerk. I order my food online and when my order was complete I went in to pick it up and the staff gave me a hard time about getting my order that was obviously ready so I had to wait an additional 10 minutes. I won't be back.
google avatar

Max H.

Yelp
Love this place, they load you up with huge portion sizes and have so many delicious dishes. One of my favorites is the goat curry, it's especially fragrant. Even a mini size is enough for a lunch for me. :)
google avatar

Dayana V.

Yelp
OMG!!! I live in NY so I've had plenty of Caribbean foods but this place is by far the best. I came to Philly to visit a relative and as I was searching places to eat, this gem popped up. I ordered bbq jerk wings and my cousin had jerk chicken. We both ordered rice n peas, cabbage with a side of mac. Everything was great. The jerk chicken had an amazing smoky flavor and not too much spice. The meat on the BBQ Jerk Wings were falling off the bone AND it was spicy. The Mac n cheese tho topped it off. Words won't do it justice but know it was AMAZING!! Whenever I come back to Philly this will be my go to.
google avatar

Joann W.

Yelp
They opened up jerk hut right next door recently. Hopefully that helps with the long line! I'm so glad this place is only a few mins from home. I always go here when I'm craving Jamaican food. We think jerk chicken is a bit dry. My go-to is OXTAIL!! Love love love the flavor, gnawing it off the bone omgggg, exxxtra sauce all over. I always ask for a side of jerk sauce no matter what i order. Typing this review makes me want some now haha. They also have daily specials! The line can get very long. I'd suggest going during off time like 1:30-4 & 8pm-close.
google avatar

Monica O.

Yelp
Whenever I'm in West Philly I always think, "man, where can I get some good food"? Duh, in West there are endless great options! I hadn't had Caribbean food in a while and I'm a sucker for oxtails so I decided to stop in here. I hate when places run out of stuff so before I even got in line I asked if there still were any oxtails and the guy behind the counter yelled "yah mon"! Bet. I'll take an order of those with the steamed cabbage and the rice and peas--throw in a side of Mac and cheese too please and thank you. Oxtails were stewed to perfection, cabbage was nice and well seasoned, and they really pack the platter up with the rice and peas. Now that Mac...a consultation with somebody's Southern grandma needs to happen because not enough different types of cheeses were used and the macaroni itself needed seasoning--but solid attempt indeed. I'll be back but I'll pass on the Mac.
google avatar

Terra B.

Yelp
Cowfoot Saturday! The flavors are so yummy with excellent portions. The price is also fair. They are pleasant. This is a take-out style restaurant that is relatively quick and consistently good.
google avatar

Arvind V.

Yelp
A real hole in the wall, in West Philadelphia. I truly mean it when I say this because of the fact that I come here at least once literally every single week. The food is so tasteful, the portions are enormous and the staff very friendly. Do keep in mind that this is a takeout only restaurant and not a sit down type of place. I'm a big fan of the Jamaican curry chicken with rice and beans, although the jerk chicken is also easily as good. The pasties are also pretty frickin awesome. Would suggest calling in your order because it's a very popular place among the locals and wait times could be pretty high.
google avatar

Natalie S.

Yelp
They should be called bad quality taste. I saw a long ass line thinking ok this food going to be good. I was so disappointed. I spent over one hundred dollars in there trying a little bit of everything. I wish I didn't. The food was way too salty, oily mess. What flavor? I was not happy. The customer service was good.I believe they have to make so much food to meet the demands the quality goes missing. I will not be returning.
google avatar

Adam C.

Yelp
Good stuff. My regular go-to Jamaican spot was closed the other day so upon realizing that qt was on my way home i decided to give it a try. Glad i did! Excellent portion of jerk chicken. Definitely a good bit more than i ordered which was welcome since it was good enough to enjoy a couple days of leftovers. Got a whole chicken portion and that chicken must have been huge! I do like it a bit spicier but i didn't ask for spicy and don't know if that is an option so I'll find out next time. Really Good oxtail although that portion was a little small. Rice and peas solid for sure, and really good steamed cabbage I still have a favorite at another spot but this is close and i will definitely go again as it was good , solid food. Recommended
google avatar

Jenaya P.

Yelp
Sooo glad I made the decision to order food here. I was in the mood for some home cook Jamaican food and I always heard good things about this spot so I decided to give it a try. First when I walked in the store I noticed the huge crowd of people waiting for their food. I choose to still wait cause I figure if it's crowded that means their food must be good. So I get to the cashier and I ordered the brown stew chicken, rice and beans and cabbage. After about a good 20 minutes of waiting. I realize all the people that was in the store with me already got their food and left. I was on my cell phone so I wasn't really paying attention. I went to the cashier to check the status of my order and he was so apologetic and kind he even said please don't be mad at me! Awwe! Then he gave me this huuge platter of food omg!! I gave half to my brother and my niece and nephew. Overall this food was delicious!! You could tell it was made with love, the chicken was tender and falling of the bone the rice and beans was flavorful it taste like it had a sweet spice to it that made it wonderful and the cabbage was also good all for 8.00 and definitely worth it! I would recommend this restaurant if you want good Jamaican food they have everything from curry and jerk chicken, beef patties and it's all under 12.00 and it's large portions!! well mines was extra large. I kinda felt like I was treated!! Thanks to the friendly staff! I'll be back.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
I ordered the lobster curry and the jerk salmon. This was pretty darn good. Lobster was with seafood fried rice, the the salmon with rice and peas.
google avatar

Roseline A.

Yelp
Our food was delicious and they give really large portions! I can eat off of my one plate 3 times! They accept cash-only and we got our food relatively quick for a Friday night.

Thomas G.

Yelp
Large jumped from 18 plus tax to 25 plus tax and a mean mug. I'll just get real Jamaican food in Brooklyn. Feels like I'm walking into a 90's weed spot gotta bring my gun!!!!

Charlie B.

Yelp
The first time I ordered from here, the food was really good. I was hyped to come back a second time. I ordered the curry shrimp, rice and peas with cabbage. It tasted old and gave an upset stomach. So I doubt I'll be going back. Maybe not a common occurrence however, that experience turned me off.
google avatar

Symone W.

Yelp
This place is ridiculous. The people act like you're not even standing there. They let more aggressive people get in front of you so if you're not comfortable pushing your way through or getting into a potential argument with someone in order to place in order then this place may not be for you. Once I did get to the counter they were extremely rude and rushy. Oh and if you pay with card there's a tax on the food if you pay in cash there isn't. Seems shady but whatever I guess. On the upside if you are able to get past that issue, the food is absolutely delicious, probably some of the best Jamaican food in the area. Super reasonable priced (even with the shady card tax). Food taste fresh and there is a large portion. Expect to pay between $8-15 dollars depending on the size of plate and if you add a drink (I suggest one of the Jamaican sodas) Parking is limited during certain hours because it is only street parking on Lancaster, try going later in the day on a week day.

Amara O.

Yelp
Amazing taste, great portion sizes my favorite Caribbean spot around campus. I've tried the jerk chicken and jerk pork and both are delicious

caleb f.

Yelp
They are not service dog friendly and really is upsetting when businesses do this. My service dog is clearly labeled and certified but they still wouldn't let me order.
google avatar

Katie H.

Yelp
Great food and quick service!! The rice and beans are amazing. The oxtail is great too but is a bit fatty on a few pieces. Mac and cheese could've been cheesier but overall great experience! Will definitely be back
google avatar

Envy G.

Yelp
I ordered a large jerk chicken platter jerk and two juices and they charged my card $28.00 the menu says $14.00 for a large
google avatar

Latoya F.

Yelp
I wanted to like this place because they got good reviews for the most part and there's no where in my area with west Indian breakfast food so i drove 30 minutes to this place i gor ackee and Saltfish with boiled food and some callaoo........well baby after taking 2 bites i noticed half a damn cricket in my food i called to complain about the insect in my food and the guy was very nice on the phone and apologetic. I was supposed to go back for him to replace the 17$ i spent but i could not hype myself up to go back after what i saw in my food like they really ruined callaoo for me I'm scarred! Ugggggggg!
google avatar

Justus P.

Yelp
So the boyfriend and I were looking to have something for dinner and both thought about Jamaican food. I heard a lot of good things and somewhat interesting things about Quality Taste. But from my personal experience it was great! I ordered from DoorDash so it was a little later than expected but when I got it OMG IT WAS DELICIOUS! I gave it a three star rating only because my order was incorrect, I ordered the jerk chicken with the cabbage and rice and peas, he order peppered steak with the same sides. When the order came it was two orders of peppered steak but because of how good it was I wasn't that upset about it. Would order again.
google avatar

Iman H.

Yelp
Delicious authentic food! Definitely try their Mac and cheese. Their jerk is my favorite
google avatar

Kelvin P.

Yelp
It's tasty, the jerk chicken I got was a little dry. There's probably an option to get more gravy when you're there but I ordered through Grubhub. I'm willing to try again
google avatar

Nikky S.

Yelp
Absolutely THE BEST Jamaican food in the Philadelphia area, and probably the best I've ever had. (Take into consideration I grew up around Caribbeans in NYC and have been eating ethnic food my entire life.) I typically don't go for Jerk Chicken as I am an Oxtails type of gal.. however, the Jerk Chicken at Quality Taste is irresistible and kind of addicting. It taste like it came right off of the grill, fresh and juicy! Oh, and the sauce... crack!! Lol! The macaroni & cheese is another fav of mine! The oxtails are also very very good! To be honest, I haven't had a bad experience here, and believe me, I've been here a lot. Their soup is great, very hearty (can opt. in or opt. out of dumplings, I would say opt. in) it is quite an experience. They have a different porridge option everyday of the week. If you're a cornmeal porridge fan like myself, keep in mind, they only serve this on the weekends. Fairly priced, hearty portions-- Overall, great place!
