So keep in mind this review is from a gringo who has never had pho before ... I was told that Que Huong was the best, so we ventured down there today for dinner.
It's a tiny place, maybe 8-10 tables. We only had to wait about 15 minutes though which was good. Waitstaff is extremely quick about clearing tables once people leave, so the turnover rate is fast.
I had scoped out the menu online ahead of time, but the banh mi's are not really listed ... they have four of them, I think BBQ beef (what we ordered), chicken, regular beef, and one other. If you ask your waiter/waitress they will tell you the choices. We were primarily there for pho, though, and I got #10, which was just beef and noodles. My boyfriend got #8, which had beef, noodles, flank, tendon, trip, and beef meatballs, according to the menu.
The broth was VERY flavorful, and they bring you a plate of jalapeños, fresh basil, and sprouts. A friend had advised me beforehand to mix in what I want into the broth, and let the sprouts kind of absorb the broth, and it was very tasty. I didn't think the beef itself was that flavorful, but I put some hoisin sauce on it, and it probably did absorb some of the broth flavoring.
I've had better banh mi sandwiches, but the bread was very crusty and delicious, and the sandwich itself was very good ... and a bargain, I think it was like $3.50 or $4. I'd definitely stop by again just to get a sandwich to-go. I will say if you can't do spicy foods like me, ask for NO JALAPENOS, because I didn't know it had some and then my mouth was on fire ...
Unrelated to the food, the bathroom is located through the back, and was kind of cold (yes, it's winter...) - go to the back of the restaurant and through the red door there, then keep going, it's a onesie but there's a sign for it.
Overall, this place probably gets 4/5 or 4.5/5 stars from me. I want to try other pho places in the area now but I was told this was one of the best, if not the best, so we'll see how the other ones measure up.
