Yelp
Do not; I repeat Do Not go spending mega bucks in these fancy, elegant restaurants that serve seafood in San Juan. Don't try to impress your friends, family, co-workers with mediocre seafood at high end restaurants. You want seafood, you want great seafood...well, Que Pezca'o is where you will find it.
Listen, this is not a fancy restaurant, they have some mismatched chairs, they have some mismatched tables and some may be a little wobbly, heck they don't even have indoor dining...but what I can say is; that they have the freshest, most flavorful well-prepared seafood dishes you will ever have on this side of the island.
Que Pezca'o (whatta fish) that is exactly what we were saying as we left this establishment.
Let me start by saying we were well received and greeted, told we can sit wherever we pleased. The atmosphere here is so refreshing, inviting and vibrant, everyone smiling and having a great time and the wait staff very attentive. The music playing, live music, a really great genre mix but it wasn't loud that you had to yell over each other.
I knew the restaurant was located close to the bay, but because it was evening I didn't know how close. But let me say that once we felt that cool relaxing breeze blowing across the place we just knew, Oh yea we're on the bay and it just made our dinner evening even more delightful.
We had no language issues placing our orders...the staff spoke English and Spanish and they were super helpful in explaining flavors on particular dishes and how they were prepared.
We didn't order any alcohol drinks as we were celebrating my birthday and brought our own bottle of Champagne. They popped it, poured it, and chilled it for a corkage fee, which was expected, but reasonably priced.
We started with the Beefy Sampler: an assortment of just enough appetizer bites to cover 5 people...mango wings, fried corn sticks, garlic fried pork and several other juicy bites.
Dinner: Ensalada de Pulpo, Carrucho Mixta w/fried plantains. Pescao entero frito w/white rice n beans.
Bistec de lomillo encebollado w/white rice n beans. Camarones al ajillo con tostones. Carne frita con salasa de aji con tostones.
We waited, yes we waited quite some time for our meals, but all of our dishes were cooked fresh as we waited. Every seafood dish we ate was well seasoned, fresh and flavorful...all of them delicious. The only dish which was a little dull was the bistec de Lomillo because it was a little tough to chew.
Our entire experience here; the service, food, refreshments and entertainment was excellent and at a great price. We will definitely revisit and recommend and you should too when you're in Puerto Rico!
