The 20 Best Restaurants In San Juan, Puerto Rico - San Juan - The Infatuation

"Two words: ceviche nachos. That’s what you’re having at this fish market and restaurant in Santurce. During the week, workers in suits stop by for a quick lunch, and out-of-towners often make it their first or last stop from the airport, since it’s so close by. The restaurant is mere steps away from the marina, where local fishermen dock their boats and deliver the fish used to make the cod tacos here that are fried to crunchy perfection. Its proximity to the harbor and fresh seafood dishes demand that you order a fresh passionfruit juice to go with it. Or a couple of Medallas to cool off." - adriana silva, tiffany yannetta, mariana trabanino

Food Rundown Fish Broth Before the start of every meal, you’re given a little cup of fish broth. It’s salty, punchy, and most importantly, free. Nachos De Ceviche We’ve said it once, and we’ll say it 80 more times: this dish is to nachos what Hector Lavoe is to Latin music—a Puerto Rican icon with groundbreaking flavor. The fish is marinated in ginger, orange juice, and minced apples for an explosive sweet and sour taste. You can find ceviche nachos in other restaurants, but none top these. photo credit: Mariana Trabanino Bacalao Fish Tacos The beer-battered fish is so crispy that they almost beg for an ASMR-worthy knife scrape. They’re topped with cabbage and mayoketchup, and, frankly, don’t really need anything else. photo credit: Mariana Trabanino" - Mariana Trabanino

21 Best Restaurants in Puerto Rico | Condé Nast Traveler

"Que PezCa'o is a casual, unassuming little eatery by the harbor that spills out onto a covered alfresco seating area where guests can relax and enjoy mellow live music. It can get crowded and slightly raucous on the weekend—mostly because of all the little kids and dogs wandering around—but it's always a good time. Try the bacalao croquettes, the ceviche nachos, the mahi-mahi mofongo, and the whole grilled red snapper. Oh, and some of the most flavorful, fresh-off-the-boat fish tacos you'll find on the island." - Kris Fordham

Google
Food was great. Service was even better! Prices were very reasonable. They also addressed all my dietary restrictions which was so nice. Recommend to anyone visiting Puerto Rico!!! Will definitely come back next time I visit. I also saw a cute cat whom I shared my dessert with 💕

Absolutely Outstanding – Our Favorite Spot! As a family of five, we dine out often, and this restaurant has become our go-to place—we visit at least four times a month, and every single time is a wonderful experience. The fish fillets are incredibly fresh and always cooked to perfection. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, made even better by the live music that adds the perfect touch to our meals. But what truly sets this place apart is the staff. Every employee we’ve interacted with has been exceptionally friendly, attentive, and genuinely caring. Their service makes us feel right at home every time we visit. We honestly love everything about this restaurant—food, ambiance, and people. If I could give it 100 stars, I would. Highly, highly recommended!

Google
What a spectacular place for lunch! Right on the water, the variety of the menu was wonderful. Everything was full of flavor made fresh to order! Highly recommend and we were so well hosted by Angel, Gabriel and Karla! Whenever we are back in Puerto Rico we will dine here again!

Google
This is def a local must try. They were friendly and more than willing to help a girl out that is still trying to learn Spanish. But most importantly the food was delicious. Fish is fresh and prob one of my favorite places to come on. No frills just good food and great atmosphere. 10/10.

Google
The food was amazing. We had the pulpo salad, red snapper with mashed malanga and guava bread pudding. When I say this food is amazing, that itself does not do it justice. Soo delicious. The server Carla was amazing. The best service. And I can not forget to mention the fish soup they give when you sit down. By far an amazing experience, superb food and great service!! Definitely recommending to EVERYONE. !

Yelp
Do not; I repeat Do Not go spending mega bucks in these fancy, elegant restaurants that serve seafood in San Juan. Don't try to impress your friends, family, co-workers with mediocre seafood at high end restaurants. You want seafood, you want great seafood...well, Que Pezca'o is where you will find it. Listen, this is not a fancy restaurant, they have some mismatched chairs, they have some mismatched tables and some may be a little wobbly, heck they don't even have indoor dining...but what I can say is; that they have the freshest, most flavorful well-prepared seafood dishes you will ever have on this side of the island. Que Pezca'o (whatta fish) that is exactly what we were saying as we left this establishment. Let me start by saying we were well received and greeted, told we can sit wherever we pleased. The atmosphere here is so refreshing, inviting and vibrant, everyone smiling and having a great time and the wait staff very attentive. The music playing, live music, a really great genre mix but it wasn't  loud that you had to yell over each other. I knew the restaurant was located close to the bay, but because it was evening I didn't know how close. But let me say that once we felt that cool relaxing breeze blowing across the place we just knew, Oh yea we're on the bay and it just made our dinner evening even more delightful. We had no language issues placing our orders...the staff spoke English and Spanish and they were super helpful in explaining flavors on particular dishes and how they were prepared. We didn't order any alcohol drinks as we were celebrating my birthday and brought our own bottle of Champagne. They popped it, poured it, and chilled it for a corkage fee, which was expected, but reasonably priced. We started with the Beefy Sampler:  an assortment of just enough appetizer bites to cover 5 people...mango wings, fried corn sticks, garlic fried pork and several other juicy bites. Dinner: Ensalada de Pulpo, Carrucho Mixta w/fried plantains.                                                                   Pescao entero frito w/white rice n beans. Bistec de lomillo encebollado w/white rice n beans.                                                                                             Camarones al ajillo con tostones.                                                                                                                        Carne frita con salasa de aji con tostones. We waited, yes we waited quite some time for our meals, but all of our dishes were cooked fresh as we waited. Every seafood dish we ate was well seasoned, fresh and flavorful...all of them delicious. The only dish which was a little dull was the bistec de Lomillo because it was a little tough to chew. Our entire experience here; the service, food, refreshments and entertainment was excellent and at a great price. We will definitely revisit and recommend and you should too when you're in Puerto Rico!

Yelp
He comido aqui en mas de una ocasión. Se come bien.

Yelp
The food and drinks are delicious here and when in PR I highly recommend this place. The seafood is of course fresh catch and when they serve their food it is so flavorful and delicious with every bite. Seating is outside but with a canopy over and the staff is friendly and informative. (They do speak english) We tried a lot off the menu to share with the table and I love their fresh parcha juice (passion fruit). We had ceviche, fish tacos, mofongo, tostones and pastelillos. You cant go wrong with anything on the menu. They have spicy and non spicy items. Everything is delicious and it feels great to be sitting outside enjoying some live salsa music.

Yelp
An Uber driver told me that this place was good for lunch. After a long Saturday on the beach, i decided to dine here around 7pm since it was only a 3 minute drive from my hotel (Sheraton). The dining is outside only and when i arrived they had live music (a man and a woman singing)! It was such a vibe but it is loud! They had a window were it looked like you places an order at but i went up and asked how to get a table and was told to just take a seat at any table and i would be served! So that's just what i did! After about 6-7 mins, a gentleman came by (spoke English) and asked how i was and if i wanted something to drink. I just ordered water. He came back with my beverage and a menu. I wanted to order the shrimp ceviche but he said that they were out so i settled for the fried calamari instead. It was pretty good! The calamari was cut kinda on the bigger side for me and could've been much hotter (temp) but the flavor was still there and it was good! Midway eating it with no napkin or silverware, he came back and i had to ask for some. I then ordered the whole snapper fried with beans and rice. It took about 30 mins to come out and at that time my waiter changed to a waitress (who did not speak English). She came by and attempted to take my plate and silverware which i attempted to say no I'm Not finish. She understood. When my snapper came out-WOW! It was so beautiful! The fish had to be straight out the fryer like i like it! The beans were delicious and paired nicely with the rice! It even had this small cabbage and spinach salad on the side with what seemed like a honey mustard dressing! Omg it was alllllll sooo good and i scared i would not eat it all but i was determined to do so! The fish was so buttery in the inside and the skin was seasoned to perfection!!!!! The beans were almost like chili and it was too was soooooo good! My waitress came by a couple of time and put two thumbs up to ask if I'm good! Which i was! I asked for the check and it wasn't expensive it all! She tooped my water off and left me with a mint! She provided great customer service! My pictures served no justice! Would def recommend 10 out of 10!!!

Yelp
Ambiance was good , food and service were exceptional! It's outdoor , private parking , only thing I didn't like was the mosquitoes outdoor
google avatar

Argelio L.

Yelp
The restaurant is adjacent to a fishing station which is adjacent to the Maritime police so it's very safe. The food was excellent. They only serve fish that is fresh and if it has been frozen before they will tell you just ask the service was awesome. Willing to help and explain all the dishes and all the different types of preparation that they have we all had a one and a half pound red snapper, which is a very common fish in Puerto Rico, especially the north coast with breadfruit toast to Ins and fried sweet potato that's Tostones. For appetizers, we had the ceviche of Marlin and grouper. It also had mango lemon and avocado all fresh. Also, we had an surprising mini Mofongo with with a filing of fresh fish and spicy mango, which were very good service was outstanding, courteous, and efficient. We highly recommend it.

Yelp
What a great place to eat delicious authentic Puerto Rican food! The ceviche was amazing, the one with the thin green apple slices was phenomenal! The sweet/tartness of the green apples were a pleasant surprise. The mofongo was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Staff is fantastic! They don't have a physical menu in English, but they have a QR code for their menu in English. Super easy. The place is super casual, outdoors and absolutely local and lovely! Highly recommend for the food and the people!

Yelp
Owner and staff was extremely kind and friendly. The food was amazing. The owner is a funny guy. I recommend the mango ceviche, soursop juice, the fried red snapper, and the fried grouper. Really made my trip, a very authentic experience!

Yelp
Super delish! This was my best eating experience in Puerto Rico Chillo frito with salad de kole and tostones de panna. Hubby-camarrones criollo con arroz blanco. Sadly all the dishes came out first except Husband's . Will try again maybe service will get right The best part...I was with familia! Hands down- nothing beats that! See you again- hopefully December 2022

Yelp
El caldo de pescado es delicioso! No dejen de pedir un vasito. Lo he pedido en otros lugares y ninguno como el de ellos. Me gusta el ambiente relajado al aire libre y música acústica. Por lo general pido ceviche.
google avatar

Brian A.

Yelp
Literally a hidden gem. Food is always good and definitely a locals spot. The staff is super attentive and gives great recommendations. On the weekends they have live music in the form of an acoustic guitarist which makes it a beautiful outdoor island vibe. Recommend the chicharrones de pezcao, tacos de pezcao, ceviche nachos and bacalaitos.
google avatar

Lekan O.

Yelp
Found this place when looking for a local spot while visiting Puerto Rico. Ordered the red snapper with yellow rice. Snapper was good.. didn't enjoy the yellow rice soo much since it was mushy and it's really rice and beans. Appetizers were great.. ie. Coconut shrimp and empanadas. Great outdoor location.. slow service though.
google avatar

Nicole M.

Yelp
Affordable and special. Inside a Fish Villa. There are some awesome tarpoons fish!!! Best fish tacos, good ceviches. Try the fried red snapper with their Puertorrican Mofongo.

Yelp
My husband & I came here on a Monday around noon & surprisingly found it open, with the patio pretty full (biz hours were listed as closed on Mondays). We were seated immediately, ordered & had our food within 20-25 minutes. I ordered the ceviche spicy mango/grande con tostones. The fish chunks were large & definitely fresh. The mango salsa wasn't spicy at all, if anything a bit too sweet, but was still a good twist on a classic ceviche. My husband got the Del Mar taco trio, which was also really good & fresh, & our favorite was the taco mero. The seating is only a large covered outdoor patio, near the water with a good breeze & lots of overhead fans as well. Parking was easy & we will definitely return.

Jennifer T N.

Yelp
Best fish in a great terrace restaurant, great ceviche. Beautiful scenery, good parking and wonderful service

Yelp
A waitress at a restaurant in OSJ recommended we try this restaurant, as its known for its seafood. It was a short Uber ride away from the old city and we stopped for lunch on the way to the airport. The place was very busy, but we found a table under the covered portion of the restaurant easily. The menu had tons of options, including all sorts of seafood dishes and mofongos, etc. Sadly however, our server informed us that none of the ceviches were ready yet even though the place had been open for hours. We ended up with the seafood taco trio and a carnitas monfongo, both were very good. Our wait for the food was extreme - like around an hour. Our server did apologize and offered me a beer on the house as compensation. All in all, it was a nice venue and clearly a local favorite based on the crowd.
google avatar

Shermika D.

Yelp
While in Puerto Rico a local recommended we try out the place. It's about 15 mins from OSJ for reference. Que Pez Cao is a gem. It sits along the water and is very cute and unassuming. It's outdoors fully from what I saw, but they have umbrellas. The drinks were great....we both had sangrias which weren't too sweet and had a nice amount of rum in them. Our server, Jacob, was extremely attentive and gracious. The fish broth they bring out as a starter is amazing! We asked for more. We were allowed to try the conch and octopus, which were fresh and so tasty. I ordered the mahi mahi mofongo, which was the fresh fish of the day. The mofongo was so good (5-5) and oozing with flavor and fish. My husband ordered the snapper, and he ate the plate clean! We also had the ceviche appetizer which was so fresh and full of flavor. This place is so awesome and I'm glad we went!

Yelp
Came here with my mother in law the other day. It was here birthday and I thought I'd invite her to lunch. She had never been here. A friend of hers tagged along, as did my son. We had a splendid time. The restaurant is all outdoors, so during it made for a perfect set up during these times. It helped that the day was nice temperature wise, and it didn't rain. We ordered a whole chillo (red snapper) and the salmorejo de jueyes. We accompanied it with arroz mamposteao, tostones, and amarillos. My kid loved his empanadilla de chapín. He devoured it. And he is not a fish lover. We also tried the lobster empanadas. Everything was very tasty, perfectly seasoned. Overall, the experience was pleasant. I've been here before and have had the fish tacos and they are also very good. I would normally give this place a five stars, but I give it four only because our waitress forgot to give us the fish broth at the beginning. Usually they give you a small cup of fish broth as a starter. She forgot, and didn't remember until we asked her at the end of the meal if they had discontinued that practice. She also forgot to bring the lemonade I ordered for my son. Luckily, she also forgot to include it in the bill, so no harm no foul. She did an overall good job, just missed those times. My mother in law loved the place and suggested we return with my father in law. Hopefully then, the experience is perfect and I can give it the five stars I think this place deserves.

Yelp
Very hot sunny humid summer day. The restaurant seats people outdoors and has many fans to (try to) cool you down. First thing first, there was only one outdated English menu. We are all English speaking and struggled a bit with the menu . Once the drinks started coming out, we noticed that the juices here taste freshly pressed. Loved it! Just remember no sugar added when you order, but you can mix the not very sweet juices with a sweeter juice. Ordered A LOT of food with my large group and got to taste everything. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed. The taste was just okay for most of the meals. The pork was too dry, the rice and peas were okay, the lobster and shrimp were a bit bland too, even the seafood fried rice. But the presentation was often enticing. I loved the beef empanada, and the mofongo was a bit of a different taste for me, but not bad. I could get used to it. I was happy to try something I had never had before. Waiter was nice and patient and gave helpful ideas. Overall, okay spot, but maybe it's just my palette.
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
A spot with good service and great food, without paying for the fanciness. Socially distanced tables and good offerings. Try the surullitos and the trifongo with some cold drinks - you won't be disappointed. Plenty of parking nearby.
google avatar

Loren J.

Yelp
This place was so great!!! Highly recommend! The fish was SO fresh and the service was great. 100% recommend the fish tacos and the chicharrones. The other dish we got was also great, but I'm so stuffed I almost wish we'd just shared the fish tacos. They're huge and the BEST!!! And those Chicharrones appetizers were so good and the sauce was awesome. We came for lunch and sat right away, it's outdoor and bustling. Casual and beachy. The Mango Frappe was great too. Didn't snap a pic. But, my god, get the tacos and the chicharrones.
google avatar

Megan D.

Yelp
Cute place but poor service. I had a group of 12 and they sat us off the patio in the dark because they didn't have enough space. They were extremely slow in getting our orders (at least 30 minutes) and slowest in bringing our food (over an hour). They were so slow in bringing our food they didn't bother asking if we wanted dessert. I saw other tables receiving dessert so I wonder if they were just ignoring us because we were a big group or for another reason. Food was fine, nice presentation, but the mixed rice and beans were bland. I wouldn't come back.
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
I always love a place where you can get really good quality food, but you don't have to pay for service or fancy furnishings. You order at the counter, and sit at simple tables outside near the bay. And my fish was quite good, with a filling amount. It's a bit hard to find, but not hard to park nearby. If you have a car, definitely go.
google avatar

Judy C.

Yelp
Great food, fresh fish, friendly servers, fast service. Mom and I had a great dinner!
google avatar

Jane P.

Yelp
This place is a must try if you are in Puerto Rico. The food is so fresh and everything tastes delicious. The ambiance is casual. They have seating in a outdoor area that is roofed off. The service is great and the staff was so helpful and accommodating. We were starving, so we ordered a lot of stuff. We got a fish taco which was my favorite thing on the menu. You could tell the fish was fresh and it was perfectly seasoned. The pickled vegetables added a nice element of crunch and tangy. My next favorite thing on the menu was the shrimp mofungo. The shrimps were huge and they were seasoned to perfection. The mofungo had a nice texture. They were not too soft and not too hard. YOU HAVE TO TRY THIS PLACE!!!
google avatar

Al K.

Yelp
I had the fish ceviche and mama had the Mofongo which were both awesome. The portions are huge here. One thing that could have been better was the Pina Colada, I should have just gotten a beer. Also be prepared for laid back Island time service too. Other than that I thought the food was on point!
google avatar

Isabella W.

Yelp
Was seated quickly on a busy Friday night. Ordered a Piña Colada to start and it was refreshing without being too weak. For my entree, I had the salmorejo de jueyes which came with an accompanying salad and side of choice (I got the arepas de coco). The crab was delicious and flavorful and the arepas were perfectly crispy. The meal was really big and filling. Would definitely recommend and it has more of a locals vibe; could not sense any tourists dining.
google avatar

Sasha G.

Yelp
Great spot! Has everything you need: - ample parking - fresh seafood - full bar - quick, friendly service - tasty Puerto Rican dishes Would definitely recommend this spot! Everything we had here was good & fresh. My only regret was not visiting this spot more than once during my stay.
google avatar

Victoria C.

Yelp
Great piña coladas! The appetizers and main courses were delicious and fresh. A little noisy in the main area, but we chose a table in the corner of the restaurant and enjoyed our meals.
google avatar

Ann P.

Yelp
I love their fish tacos! I highly recommend getting two of them! They offer very fresh seafood meals. You can tell they utilize fresh ingredients. I am so glad we stumbled upon this restaurant. The open balcony style restaurant is inviting. It's romantic and a prefect way to enjoy the fresh warm air.
google avatar

Maria G.

Yelp
We love this place. We went on a Sunday night and waited about 40 minutes to be seated. The ambiance is very chill. They also had live music that afternoon. We got the chicharrón de pescado and croquetas to start. Omg. Possibly my favorite things I had while in PR. We also got the fish tacos which were very good and the ceviche mofongo which was okay. The mofongo was a little dry. Definitely check this place out if you get the chance!

Andrea T.

Yelp
Very disappointed. The food was super salty, we ended up with stomach upset! The langosta is super expensive for the size! So sad, we had great expectations about this place. Save your money and go somewhere else!
google avatar

Carlos J. C.

Yelp
Overpriced! This is at its best, a truck stop that smells awful, still the reviews were wonderful. It took them over 15 minutes to take our order and over 25 to bring food. Everything was ok, nothing to lose sleep over, unless you see the bill, a swordfish fillet with plantains 19,99$!!! My kid had shrimp, five of them came on the plate, with fries, again 18,99$. It was just four of us, no alcohol, in a freaking truck stop behind a police station that smells like a dumpster, final bill $100!!!
google avatar

Chase G.

Yelp
Awesome little spot in Central Park (Parque Central) with a nice view of the bay. I would've never known this place was here if my friend hadn't shown me. Cool ambiance at night with the waterfront seating set a relaxing tone, and the food was really good. The staff was extremely attentive and professional. Definitely a hidden gem. Fresh fish, friendly staff, and a unique setting. Had the fried snapper and it was meaty and well-prepared. Would've loved to try their fish tacos.... maybe next time!

Yelp
My meal was extremely delicious and the service was good - unfortunately my other half didn't have a great experience because his food arrived COLD ---once he sent it back they fixed the issue and comped ONLY his MEAL. Great service ,great staff and although one of the meals came cold which caused my dinner date to be grumpy- overall ----I was happy Thank you!
google avatar

Jason F.

Yelp
This place is a gem. The fish is fresh, the mufongo is tremendous, and the staff is super nice.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a restaurant right next to the fishery of San Juan so you can imagine how fresh the seafood is. The ceviche with green apple is amazing! I couldn't get enough of it. My boyfriend loves spicy so he orders the spicy Carne Frita and he says it was the perfect kind of spicy. Now, Gaby is the best. He always provides us with the best service and goes above and beyond. The restaurant owner should be very proud to have such a dedicated person on their team. Gracias Gaby por tu excelente servicio!

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic! Food was delicious and oh so fresh. Like a previous review said, you can definitely tell the ingredients are fresh. The waterfront outdoor dining experience was very pleasant. Gaby was a very courteous and helpful waiter. Plenty of on-site parking. I had Taco Trio w/ mero, ceviche, and pulpo; my wife had ensalada w/ carrucho, pulpo, and plantains. All fantastic. Highly recommend if you can make it! Only a short drive or taxi out of Old San Juan. Located in Parque Central.

Yelp
Fresh fish tacos, ceviche, and juices. Fun hang-out spot in Parque Central. It will be after the first right after you enter the park. Cool location but bring or ask for mosquito repellent! There were kitties hanging around as well. :) Anyway, bottom line being: Excellent fish tacos! Two was actually almost more than enough for a girl with an appetite. :P They have fresh juices like parcha, tamarindo, acerola.. I got the acerola Don Q Limon and it was excellent. We got some savory sangria as well.
