I made the reservation about a month in advance for a Friday visit, and they almost completely booked. So if you plan to visit Quintessa Vineyard on SAT or SUN, please call 6 weeks in advance during harvest season.
I've been wanted to visit Quintessa Winery for years now. I wanted to visit when legendaryMaster of Wine Larry Stone was still in Napa Valley and he
Our driver pulled up in front of the building, harvest was busy on the left side of the parking area. I can smell the ripe grapes in the air. It was refreshing, exciting, and I couldn't wait to come over for a quick peak, before checking in. My relationship with grapes is very committed.
The receptionist checked us in right away. Our tour guide was just finished up his appointment, he greeted us right away. Favian Cortez, he was genuine, professional, and enthusiastic about showing us the tour of the estate.
The Estate Tasting Experience is approximately 90 minutes and available by appointment only. This privately hosted experience provides guests with a comprehensive look at our vineyard, winemaking facility and underground caves. Favian offered us a half glass of their Sauvignon BlancIllumination, nice and refreshing. Then he took us to the vineyards behind the winery to a scenic overlook of the property. We visited the tasting room on top of the hill. We went outside and it was one else but our tour guide, my friend and I. It was peaceful, beautiful, and sweeping views of the land encompassing the Rutherford Appellation.
Favian then showed us through Quintessa winery and caves. We got to learn about the winemaking process. An hour later, we got back to the tasting room where we relaxed sit-down tasting at our private table while he showcased the current release and library vintage of Quintessa.
Unlike some other big, bold, and high in alcohol wines in Napa Valley. Quintessa Vineyards are planted to the classic Bordeaux grape varieties in 26 vineyard blocks and they make only 1 wine, a Bordeaux-style, a blend, and they surely do an amazing job at it.
Each block wine is aged separately for up to 2 years in french oak barrels in the caves. After this aging, then the blending process. The wine is then bottled and laid down for 1 year before release. Their wine is consistent in balance, finesse, and perfectly to pair with food. The old world style that I dearly love.
On this visit, we got to taste 2010, and 2012, both were truly beautiful and can cellaring for years to come. $165 for 2012 current vintage might seem high for a lot us, but this bottle is special and worth it. You only live once right. The tour and tasting fee is $75 as of harvest season 2015. It's 1 of the best tasting tours that I have been too, and I've been to quite a few.
The Quintessa history, the love and passion fo the land, they biodynamic farming methods, the commitment to make the 1 great wine of Napa Valley and of the the world by Augustine and Valeria Huneeus. Quintessa is a must visit, if you love old world wine like I do.
