Airy New American cafe offering made-from-scratch bowls, sandwiches & salads for breakfast & lunch.
"Formerly the much-loved Porkchop & Co, this Ballard shop was reborn as a breakfast spot during the pandemic lockdown era. The perfectly chewy bagels are excellent across the board, with offerings like bagels topped with za’atar and shichimi togarashi (a Japanese chili pepper and spice blend). There are also great bagel sandwich options, like the Nick and Nora, a riff on avocado toast with chili crisp. Beyond bagels, the shop serves satisfying one-pound breakfast burritos with fillings like Oaxacan cheese and guajillo chili salsa, and J Kenji López-Alt-approved biscuit sandwiches. In 2024, Rachel’s expanded into Lake City’s Elliot Bay Brewing." - Mark DeJoy, Harry Cheadle, Eater Staff
"Let’s set expectations here. Rachel's breakfast burritos are a pound each—which means that it's enough food to help you in a Cast Away scenario, but it’s also so good that Tom Hanks won't be getting any. With combos like kale, carnitas, and Mama Lil’s peppers or potato, chorizo, and queso oaxaca, grabbing one before noon on a Wednesday will be much more satisfying than a dry Pop Tart you were eyeing from the office vending machine. "Formerly the much-loved Porkchop & Co, this Ballard shop was reborn as a bagel spot during the pandemic. Available for takeout or delivery only, these chewy bagels are topped with exciting flavors like za’atar or shichimi togarashi (a Japanese chile pepper and spice blend). There are also great bagel sandwich options, like the Nick and Nora, a riff on avocado toast with chili crisp. It opened a Lake City offshoot in 2024." - Eater Staff, Sean Keeley
"This Ballard diner sources from local farms for its rotating comfort food menu, along with some stellar bagels. Some of the more substantial plates include breakfast burritos, fried chicken, and pork belly hash, and there are mimosa kits to go. Delivery available through Caviar and Doordash." - Gabe Guarente
"The second location of Ballard spot Rachel’s Bagels & Burritos used to be Brother Barrel, a pub that served pub food. Now, it’s a bagel place. While the operation works well enough to grab some breakfast to-go if you live closer to Lake City than Ballard, it feels truly odd to sit down among Brother Barrel’s remains—bar back full of dusty liquor bottles and all—and eat some lox. We can only hope that a renovation is in their future, but until now, take your everything bagels and schmear and have it at home." - Aimee Rizzo
