Ojai’s Vibey Hi-Fi Bar Slings Some of the Best Tacos and Tostadas in Town | Eater LA

"Tucked behind the main facade of an Ojai massage parlor, this sleek hi-fi mezcal bar attached to the adjacent taquería Taco Roma channels Mexico City, Oaxaca, and Tokyo’s listening bars, with music floating from a vintage Klipsch sound system while tacos — especially the crispy lamb carnitas that eats like a hybrid of lamb barbacoa and traditional pork — fly from the kitchen. The mezcal list runs just deep enough; I start with a simple sipper of Madre from the Oaxacan hills of San Dionisio and Miahuatlan, and use the mezcal-and-jamaica ranch water as a palate cleanser between bites of tacos, ceviche, and tostada de atún. The fried fish taco, dressed with a crisp cabbage slaw, is no slouch, and cinnamon-sugar-dusted churros stacked beside a fatty dollop of whipped cream make a sweet finish. A giant mirror ball glints over a neon-red-lit bar, vinyl stretches floor to ceiling, and dim nooks (including an upstairs alcove) make it a great place to start or end the night, though it gets busier later and patrons spill onto the small patio. Elder millennials mingle with the college-aged crowd, drawn by some of the town’s only late-night hours for food and drink (the bar stays open until 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays); avoid the wait on busy weekends by making a reservation ahead." - Nicole Fellah

4 Restaurants to Try This Weekend in Los Angeles: August 29 | Eater LA

"“My mind still hums from the recent (deeply needed) getaway I had in Ojai, California. For the long weekend, I highly recommend a trip up to the mountain town, which has seen something of a restaurant boom in the last three years. Our first stop after arriving at the hotel was a sleek hi-fi hideaway tucked behind the main facade of an Ojai massage parlor. This is Radio Roma, a mezcal bar and taquería that seems to take influences from Mexico City, the Oaxaca region, and even the listening bars of Tokyo, Japan. Music floats from a vintage Klipsch sound system while tacos, like a superlative lamb carnitas rendition with crispy edges, fly out from the kitchen. The mezcal list runs just deep enough, although you may start with something simple like a sipper of Madre from the Oaxacan hills of San Dionisio and Miahuatlan. The ranch water, here made with mezcal and jamaica, will be a nice palate cleanser between bites of tacos, ceviche, and tostada de atún. This is a great spot to start or end the night, though know that it gets busier — its crowd spilling out into the small patio that foregrounds it — as the hours get later.”" - Eater Staff

The Best Restaurants in Ojai, California | Eater LA

"A hi-fi lounge serving reasonably priced Oaxacan tacos, Radio Roma is a local hang akin to a high school friend’s living room. Come for the late-night menu of lamb taco, shrimp cocktail, and tuna tostada by chef and co-owner Ryan Farrar, but stay for the tunes on the vintage Klipsch sound system." - Meaghan Clark Tiernan

This spot is really dope for lunchtime, though I haven’t checked out their nightlife yet. I’ve heard the evening scene is amazing, so that’s definitely on my list. Just a heads up, their burritos are super skinny, so don’t expect huge portions. But honestly, the flavors more than make up for it. Food Highlights (4/5) -- Mushroom and Nopales Taco 5/5 - NEXT LEVEL!!! Maitake mushrooms, nopales, black bean, crema, avocado, salsa macha (contains peanuts) -- Churros 5/5 - BITE SIZE, maybe two bites but fresh and DELISH! Whipped cream, dulce de leche -- Crispy Lamb Carnitas Taco 4/5 Not bad for something new and NOT gamey tasting Local lamb, guacamole, salsa macha (contains peanuts), onion, cilantro Ambiance & Service (3/5) The staff is pretty average, nothing fancy, but they get your order out without any hassle. It’s more functional than friendly, but no problems at all. Parking (4/5) There’s a lot right next to the restaurant, plus some free street and perimeter parking, so you don’t have to stress about paying for parking or searching forever. If you’re looking for some creative tacos and a cool lunch spot, this place is worth a try. Just don’t expect big burritos, but the taste and quality more than make up for that.

Killer mezcales, all kinds of different flavor profiles. Groovy tunes & vibes. Amazing service. I learned so much. Could spend many evenings here. Great for a date or even on your own. I even made new friends :)

Google
Such a unique vibe! As soon as you open the door you realize you’ve stepped into someplace special. The hostess was so friendly. The food was delicious. The drinks were amazing but it’s the space that is the real show stopper. This was our favorite dining experience while we were in Ojai.

Tucked just off Ojai’s main street, Radio Roma is more than a mezcal bar—it’s an intimate hi-fi listening lounge with a heartbeat all its own. From the kitchen of the adjacent Taco Roma, Mexico City-inspired street food fuels the vibe, while guest DJs spin vinyl five nights a week, filling the air with eclectic soul, funk, and everything in between. We arrived on a crisp Friday night around 7:30 PM. As we stepped out of the Uber, faint tunes hummed from the distance. With every footstep, we left the hum of the street behind and drifted deeper into something that felt like a secret—something alive. Outside, curious passersby lingered, drawn in by the chatter and basslines seeping through the glass. I’d been here before. I knew the code: head straight for the limousine-tinted glass door—unmarked and understated. Inside, the energy embraces you like a warm, seductive whisper. Is it the music? The lighting? The mezcal? All of the above. If you’ve got a reservation, check in at the front and take a beat to absorb the scene. I like to slide up to the bar first—the Oaxacan Old Fashioned is my ritual; the Mezcal Negroni if I’m feeling adventurous. It’s the kind of cocktail that warms you from the inside out, especially on chilly winter nights when the sun dips before dinner. Once your table is ready, settle in and order tacos—immediately. The Carne Asada is a bold nod to CDMX, packed with smoke, salt, and soul. But my forever favorite? The Crispy Lamb Carnitas. It’s a masterclass in flavor layering—like a hip-hop classic: each bite sampling tradition, adding its own twist, and demanding your attention. Radio Roma doesn’t try to impress. It just is. Confident. Undeniably cool. Authentically itself. It knows who it is—and it doesn’t apologize. And before you leave, hear me loud and clear: order the churros. Not to share. Not to split. Get your own. These aren’t the soggy, reheated kind from a sad fairground stand. They’re golden, fresh, crunchy on the outside, cloud-soft inside, and unapologetically addictive. Your selfish side will thank you. Radio Roma is where you go to fall in love—with the music, the mezcal, the moment. Smile at a stranger. Strike up a conversation. Who knows what kind of magic you might find.

Went on a Friday night and the vibes were awesome. Place is on the smaller inside, but the indoor balcony with the DJ upstairs was super cool. Music was great, everyone was dancing and people were nice. Disco ball has a bunch of Pennies on it! I didn’t eat but people were being served food at tables as well

Such a surprise!! I was stunned when we walked through the doors. Great atmosphere, GREAT decor/lighting, great music. Loved seeing people sitting outside on the stairs. It felt European. Such a vibe.

Google
Great food, great drinks, great vibe with one BIG caveat: I cannot recommend going to this restaurant if you have a food allergy. Before ordering I mentioned that I had an allergy to Peanuts. Several tacos had a salsa macha that has peanuts and I asked for one to come without. The server then proceeded to bring 4 of the same taco on the same plate, 3 with peanuts and 1 without. Red flag #1 I asked if the server knew which taco was without peanuts and they did not, having to go back and ask. Red flag #2. Obviously I ate at this bar/restaurant fully aware that cross contamination could be a thing; the menu also had proper warnings. However staff and chefs should be trained to reduce exposure and separate foods for those with allergies. Hopefully this changes since everything else about this place was standout.

Google
Delicious food, excellent service and really nice relaxing atmosphere with the candlelight dining on their patio. Their tacos and food are so good that my daughter & I went to eat there 4 nights in a row! Their carne asada tacos are soo good! She recommends those and the lamb tacos! FYI… it’s a new restaurant and word has gotten out so you need to make reservations for dining on Friday & Saturday nights and it would be good idea to check availability online for other nights too.

Yelp
Love the food @ Radio Roma! Especially the Cactus & Mushroom taco great place for tapas. Drinks are good, the vibe is amazing. Just go! Love the new food, but I'm hoping once in a blue moon they can have comfort food specials from the previous Harvest Moon menu. Not a lot, just sprinkle here and there, because their current menu is sooooo good!

Yelp
I don't have a ton of Ojai experience but the legendary tastemaker Serge Becker's newish endeavor has some swagger coupled with phenomenal ambiance and most importantly food that I think that that little main street situation will enjoy. Radio Roma has some of the accoutrements we've seen at La Esquina, Miss Lily's and Cafe Select- Great lighting, visually provocative, while maintaining a unpretentious Ojai leitmotif that from what I can tell really stems from it's owner. I had the Pozole and it was so good I can't stop thinking about it. It was the most flavorful dish I've eaten in modern memory. Next time I want to go for drinks, and do the whole thing. Get the whole experience

Yelp
This restaurant has only been opened in Ojai for approximately three months! Even though its only been opened for a short period of time, it seems to be on people's radar. This restaurant/bar is almost like a speakeasy as its outside appearance is minimal and hidden off the main drag downtown Ojai- tucked on side facing a public parking lot. The restaurant opens at 5:30pm. If planning to not arrive when it opens up, I highly recommend reservations, especially if you are planning to eat inside. The inside features a small darkly light space that host about 6 tables that range from 2-6 people . The bar features approximately 6 seats. Outside features multiple tables on the patio along the parking lot. Given the small size, most guest sit outside which is nice on a cool night. With the said, the indoor space atmosphere is a cool club like environment- that is darkly lit. Featuring a gigantic disco ball and musical instruments lining the walls. For drinks, the bar is known for their mezcals. Their margaritas were solid, nice and tart. We enjoyed their Paloma which featured the smokiness of the Mezcal. If you are not a mezcal fan, there is a lengthy wine and beer list. Plus they have plenty of hard alcohol to make you other drinks. We did not eat at the restaurant but the restaurant features mexican and seafood items. The menu is small. On the menu you can find a wide range of tacos- from fish to chicken mole, ceviche and more. The portions look small so don't come hungry or plan to order a lot. Lastly, the bartender informed me that on a nightly basis there is a DJ that spins- this could be a cool place to hang at the bar.

Yelp
I drove to Ojai for an event at Bart's Books a couple weeks ago and stuck around for a drink at Radio Roma, a mezcal bar and restaurant on Ojai's main strip. I was hanging out with a local friend and she wanted to check it out, as it's apparently the new place in town. Parking was easy on a Wednesday after peak dinnertime, in a lot right up against Radio Roma. We walked over to the nice little patio, where there were only two occupied tables. My friend immediately saw someone she knew at the table on the left, and I saw someone we both knew at the table on the right. The two women at that table had, in fact, been at Bart's Books for the same event. A fun reminder that only about 7,500 people live in Ojai. We joined the table on the right, and I never actually saw the inside of the bar. The patio was pleasant, though, even on a cold, dark night. There was attentive table service, and the drinks came quickly. I had a Mezcal Negroni and it was quite good, made with Madre mezcal, Campari, and sweet vermouth. I could only stay for one round before driving back to L.A., but no matter--the place closed at 9:00 anyway. I had a great time at Radio Roma and would be happy to come back on another visit to Ojai, for more mezcal cocktails and maybe some tacos, too.

Yelp
A mixture of food but the main focal point is the $7 California burrito. A fair amount of meat but only two French fries. It's the smallest burrito the world has ever seen. The chef is Japanese so it makes sense the portions would be small but this was tiny for me. And we all know in a deep fryer no one on gods green earth is frying just two French fries. A burrito should come with a minimum of 3 fries. This is the world's tiniest taco pretending to be a burrito. To be fair they did warn me it would be small but not this small. The atmosphere is loud and disco and bright. The chef apparently has a Michelin star for tortillas so that's amazing but the music makes my ear bleed. Overall I left still hungry. If you're looking for a typical Mexican restaurant this is not it. Two French fries in a burrito with cheese, crema, steak. Steak is good but it's no burrito it's like a tacos smaller cousin. Overall it's a miss for me. Please avoid this place

Yelp
This place is delicious and such a welcome addition to town! We got the chips and guac, ceviche tostada, crispy lamb carnitas taco( SO GOOD!), fish taco, chicken mole taco and the carne asada taco. I got a mezcal/tequila Paloma and my husband got the fortaleza blanco. They have a great selection of tequilas and mezcals. The inside is small, but really cool. The staff were very attentive and friendly. We went for the first time just this week, but are already looking forward to the next time we can go!

Yelp
Amazing ambiance, music, and mezcal. A triple threat that can't be beat. 10/10 recommend.

Yelp
Just had an amazing brunch at Radio Roma! My husband had the breakfast tacos and said they were excellent. I had the chilaquiles and fell in love after the first bite! Great music playing in the dining area. Delicious food. Amazing service. If you're coming to Ojai, don't skip this place. I'll be back for sure!

Yelp
Super fun atmosphere, patio dining, and great drinks... The food is simple but delicious with drinks focusing on Mezcal and tequila-the Palomas and margaritas are delicious and the ranch water was refreshing as well.

Yelp
Delicious Tacos, Ceviche, and Excellent Mescal drinks! Great atmosphere and vibe! Our server and service was charming!

Maleko W.

Yelp
Perhaps they are trying to be infamous for the worst burrito in the northern hemisphere. "California burrito" is literally 3 ingredients...stale soggy fries+dry meat, wrapped in a mediocre dry tortilla. The guacamole and chips was weak also....the chips are horrid, and the guacamole was ice cold. With a menu so small you should at least be able to have some decent chips! Menu items that claimed to have "crème" had no detectable "crème". The mushroom taco was decent, but overall the food was bland, dry, lacking sauces, lacking cheeses, and portion sizes were tiny. Service was lame. Atmosphere and lighting was great, otherwise it would have been a one star review.

Jim C.

Yelp
Quick response to Emily L. If you check the menu, they call this dish a "burritito." That "ito" ending in Spanish implies small or little. Sometimes, it is used for the name of someone young, such as "Ponchito." Or, if you know the chain "Poquito Mas" (a little more). So, complaints about the small size seem improper given that the name of the dish tells you it is not a full sized burrito. This place is awesome and has a vibe that is new to Ojai and so cool....the patio is like a European cafe, with cool people hanging out and having a good time. The workers keep a positive attitude and try hard to be efficient and helpful. Thank goodness something with a hip vibe has come to Ojai...we can use all the life and energy we can get in our little town.

Yelp
Extraordinary food and the most beautiful bar in Ojai. The $5 tacos and beef-tallow-fried chips are to die for.

Ann F.

Yelp
everything was wonderful. such fresh ingredients (they make their tortillas fresh daily) beautifully balanced flavors....service was excellent and love the decor and atmosphere...great vibe. I usually am not wild about dessert but the churros were phenomenal....piping Hot and fresh with lovely whipped cream. My new favorite Ojai restaurant

Lee L.

Yelp
incredible Oxahacan food, lovely staff, epic vibes a must have experience when visiting Ojai
