What a wonderful experience we had at Ragazza last night! It was my wife's birthday and she had been wanting Italian lately so I decided to try them out as we had never been. What a good decision! I made reservations earlier in the week, as it sounded like it got busy and I'm glad we did since the place was bustling when we arrived at 6:30pm on a Sunday. Usually a good sign! We were seated immediately and Scott our waiter came over within minutes. Scott is a gem, he's been there a long time it sounds like and had stories to tell! His customer service is impeccable, you can tell he really enjoys taking care of people. To start we got the Arancini, which is creamy fried risotto balls. Oh so good, perfect light batter with a spicy pepper sauce on the side. All four of us found it be a perfect warm up. We also ordered a half Caesar and half Italian wedge salad to share, which we found fresh and light. The tangy anchovy filet was a upscale touch for those who enjoy that type of thing, which I do! All the apps/salads came out quick. I ordered my wife the Ragazza Streetcar cocktail, which she said was very good. I had a sip and wished I still drank, lol. A great light summer drink which I will now have to try and replicate at home I asked if they had a San Pellegrino for my drink choice and Scott informed me that their in-house soda water was way better, and he was not wrong. Wow, add some lemon to it and it was so clean and just the right amount of fizz. Apparently its made with some sort of high end European carbonation machine. All I know is, man, bottle that stuff up and I'd buy it! For our entrees, I had the classic Sunday Sauce Everyday, one daughter had the spaghetti and meatballs, the other the Rigatoni Bolognese, and my wife the Orecchiette with sausage and kale. The Sunday Sauce was amazing, so delicate and simple, but rich at the same time. You could tell it had been simmering on a stove for the claimed 6hrs. The Rigatoni was not overly sauced, just enough to coat the pasta. Protein wise, you can't go wrong with anything that features KCs own Scimeca's sausage in it and the meatballs were like my mom used to make. Man, I had not enjoyed a true classic Italian dish like that for quite some time. I tried some of my wife's dish and it was tasty and she said she said she loved it as well. Both daughters enjoyed theirs and finished everything on their plate, which is rare. No to go boxes this time. For desert, we had shared a Almond cookie, tiramisu, Limoncello cake and a cannoli. All were excellently prepared, but we all agreed the Limoncello cake was our favorite. Scott brought out the tiramisu with a lit candle for my wife which was very thoughtful. You can tell how a place is doing by how the people eating react and the vibe at Ragazza was happy, talkative people enjoying food, drink, and life. In ending, Ragazza made the night special for my wife and us. Overall It is a classy, well run, caring establishment that values quality, people, and comfort with scratch made, authentic food served without pretention. 100% a win in my book.
