The 12 Best Restaurants In Victoria - London - The Infatuation

"Rail House really knows how to scratch that easy, no-fuss, all-day dining itch. Few things on the menu, that wanders from European brasserie staples to red lentil dhal and za’atar numbers, will set your soul aflame, but it’s a very useful restaurant. Say, if you’re looking to dine with a loud and happy baby of the human or dog variety, or need a lofty space for a big group brunch with minimal notice and plenty of dietary requirements covered too." - heidi lauth beasley, sinead cranna

Rail House Victoria - Review - Victoria - London - The Infatuation

"Rail House in Victoria is the swiss army knife of all-day restaurants. It specialises in things that are surprisingly difficult to come by in London—a welcoming attitude towards loud tiny humans and happy dogs, sprawling menus that cater to every friend’s dietary requirements, and a kind-of-glam setting fit for business meetings before 9am. The menu wanders from European brasserie staples to red lentil dhal and za’atar numbers, but the former are safer bets. Steer clear of anything that sounds like it probably shouldn’t exist—we’re looking at you, OTT hollandaise-rich ‘burgerdict’—and lean into classics like the pancake stacks, big bowl salads, or the courgette-loaded pesto rigatoni. It’s a very useful reprieve from all of the chaotic mega-chains in the area and thanks to the lofty space and abundance of outdoor seating, it also works for a last-minute get-together when you forgot to make a booking. Where To Eat & Drink When You’re Remembering How To Socialise - London - The Infatuation

"Of course you’ve been socialising! You saw Carrie on Tuesday, Miranda on Thursday morning, and Samantha, that fox, you’ve been seeing her for months. You might even introduce her to your other mate, the Duke, they’d really get - oh wait, hang on, those are TV characters. If your socialising has been strictly 2D, then The Rail House Café is the perfect place for a post-lockdown catch-up for a multitude of reasons. First of all, it’s got that whole boujie lunch thing going on that will remind you of the 820 hours of reality TV you watched during lockdown. Secondly, you can either use it for quickfire coffee and nibbles or a full four-hour debrief over buttermilk pancakes and eggs benedict burgers. Thirdly, they make a very solid cocktail. Rejoice, brunch is back in 3D and so are you." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing

London’s Best Thanksgiving Dinners for 2019 | Eater London

"Rail House Cafe, the Victoria sibling of Fitzrovia’s Riding House Cafe, is celebrating Thanksgiving with a feast menu, served “sharing style”. At £40 per head, the main event includes a roasted Norfolk bronze turkey, cornbread and sausage stuffing, mac and cheese, glazed sprouts and bacon, and finishes with pecan pie and a pumpkin brulee pie. Of course, start with a ginger pilgrim."

Google
Rail House Victoria is a must visit place! From the moment we stepped in to this beautiful restaurant we got warmly welcomed by the host that really took his time to engage with us and get our names. The interior design is rich & luxurious, yet makes you feel like at home with comfortable sitting spaces. The Sunday brunch menu offers great choices from breakfast to roast to delicious starters with modern European style. We had a full veggie, smoke salmon muffin and the most amazing Berry Pancakes I ever ate (must try). Our table host Roland has been exceptional with warm and inviting smile and service, making a great atmosphere. Truly enjoyed my first time in Rail House Victoria and definitely highly recommend this luxurious restaurant for anyone. From the moment I stepped in to the end I've felt welcomed by its diverse staff to delicious food and increadible atmosphere. Thank you for making our Sunday morning unique and special.

Google
Work brunch review. Overall, everyone was happy with the visit to the Rail House, we were impressed with the quality and food taste, interior setting as well as the proximity to Victoria Station. Average score between six people came to 7/10, with criticism regarding portion size, price and lack of hash browns in the breakfast. Also we waited a long time to order and ended up having to ask someone if we could order with them.

Google
We reserved a table to celebrate a friend's birthday. The restaurant provided an enjoyable dining experience, characterized by excellent service, a pleasant ambiance, and aesthetically pleasing decor. Comfortable outdoor seating is available, which is particularly appealing during periods of favorable weather. The food and beverages were of high quality, featuring attractive presentation, delicious flavors, and generous portion sizes. While the cost may be slightly elevated, especially with multiple drinks, the overall experience, encompassing the atmosphere, cuisine, service, and beverages, justifies the expense. A five-star rating is warranted. Despite its size, the establishment maintains a cozy atmosphere and offers an extensive menu. Booking a reservation is advisable, as our visit at 1:30 PM demonstrated exceptional customer service. There is a notice by the front door which states that NHS discount is applicable.

Google
Amazing experience and perfect breakfast, lunch, dinner for family. Highly recommend to try out new things on menu which just got live. Hot chocolate was highlight for kids and french toast with peaches. Acai yogurt bowl is very refreshing and just makes you happy. Good selection of teas and other drinks.

Google
We had brunch here, such a lovely place, the decorations, everything is so detailed. The service was quick and friendly. We did not have reservations on a Saturday brunch time. We had the fried courgettes with extra halloumi and the fried crab. Would go here again.

Google
I would like to start by saying that I completely forgot to take a picture of the amazing dinner we had! Service and atmosphere were lush, staff and the manager, Alina was super attentive and polite, happy to adjust to any request you have. Food was amazing paired perfectly with our watermelon spritz. Anyone reaching this restaurant has to try their aged cheese croquettes, the taste and the cheese pull is great. Thank you very much, I had an amazing time!

Google
Great location for Victoria station. We had a wonderful time here! The manager arranged that our surprise dinner guests were subtly sneaked in and seated, so we could then surprise my husband for his 50th when we went to our table. Service was quick and attentive. Food and drinks were served promptly with lots of delicious choices. Lovely warm, comfortable, friendly atmosphere. We will be coming again and would definitely recommend! (Perfect location to head on to Flight Club afterwards too)!

Google
I visited Rail House Victoria for Sunday lunch. The service was excellent, from the host being very welcoming to our server who was very attentive. The food was delicious- I personally had the 45-day aged sirloin dish. Would highly recommend!!

Yelp
Had a lovely brunch here! We ordered the traditional breakfast and truffle mac & cheese with Bellinis -everything was delicious. Would definitely come back.

Yelp
Stopped in on a rainy day to grab lunch after reading other Yelp reviews. I will add that we are ~American~ so our tastes may be different than others, but that being said we loved the food! We ordered the Chicken Bun (which is a Chicken Sandwich) and it was super good! The chipotle Mayo really makes the dish. The lamb lettuce bowl was good as well, heavy on the raisins. Skewers were tasty as well. We got artichoke dip to start and it was really great, has a hint of lime. The only food that wasn't exactly what we expected was the mac&cheese, it could use a bit more cheesy cheese. Overall super cute ambiance, great food & kind people! Would come again!!

Yelp
Food was pretty good. Chicken was cooked excellent, but I ordered the heart of palm salad and got one piece of heart of palm. Pretty restaurant but staff is a bit cold. Plates are on the smaller side.

Yelp
A few things went wrong- slow service even though it wasn't busy. Not being able to track our waitress down was frustrating- but those aren't necessarily dealbreakers. But then we ordered the yellowtail tartare and it tasted and smelled like old fish. My partner tried it, and she had to fight spitting it out. When I told the waitress she seemed sort of confused. Either way, we gave her the entire dish back, minus two bites. She still charged us. Not trying to fix it, or anything like that- sure. But charging us after that? That's just bad service. Besides that, the food was overall fine. Nothing to write home about.

Yelp
Food was okay. Setting was gorgeous. The service was absolutely ATROCIOUS... appalling.

Yelp
We were seated at a table that seems to have just been squeezed in as the waiter and other guests kept hitting my husband's seat as they walked by. We were also freezing inside the restaurant throughout our meal due to no adequate draft prevention in front of the door. I asked for the avocados in my meal to be removed as I have an intolerance to it. Well, it arrived with the avocados! And also, my husband's eggs that were supposed to have been all done, arrived soft instead. It was also quite noisy for a Sunday morning.

Yelp
We stopped here during our trip to London - we were actually planning on heading to another restaurant but got off at Victoria Station, got a little lost, and basically ran into Rail House Café to escape the rain - and I'm glad we did! We ordered the full veggie and egg shakshuka. The balance of the tomato sauce with the tangy goat cheese made for a delicious dish. My boyfriend had the full veggie with roasted vegetables, two eggs, and a side of toast. The service was great and the vibe was rustic with a few modern touches. Both meals were filling and very tasty- it was one of the best meals we had in London! Can't wait to visit again.

Yelp
Really friendly service, usb and power outlets even at the bar. No hassle if you just need to sit and work for an hour or two. Smart and extremely well-appointed location, just a stone's throw from Victoria Station.

Yelp
Large space with fun decor which creates a bustling and warm environment. I met a friend here for brunch and they have quite an array of breakfast and lunch items. I had the berry pancakes which were strange to me as they were unlike American pancakes - hard for me to know if they are the common style in Britain or specific to this cafe.

Yelp
Top marks for the bulgar wheat salad bowl and the quinoa+sweet potato truffle glaze burger. Cocktails were refreshing too. Interiors and exteriors are very well done and inviting. Although the wash basin in the toilets have two separate taps ( one for cold and one for hot water, vintage style) which is not practical especially with cold weather on London. Will be back again for sure !

Rachel K.

Yelp
Service a bit slow, but it is Friday. Food was delicious! I had the truffle mac and tempura broccoli skewer. My companions had the chopped salad, portabello skewer and the delicious bread with black tahini butter. We all agreed that out dishes were fantastic.

Yelp
I would love to highly recommend one item but everything we ordered was stupendous, and I wish that I could try everything else that we saw being served because each meal looked just as delicious! The buttermilk fried chicken sandwich was honestly the best fried chicken sandwich that I've ever eaten: lightly fried, incredibly juicy and tender, topped with fresh pickles and aioli, and served with perfectly crisp steak fries (or "chips" over here), which we all know have a tendency to turn out soggy. My girlfriend ordered the eggs shashuka, and all I can say is that you need not inquire anymore after checking out the picture: massive poached eggs, peppers, a light red sauce, avocado, onions, goat cheese, and toast. Additionally, their bread and preserves plate was tasty, and the avocado toast or poached egg over a burger patty both looked like they'd give the eggs shashuka a run for its money as well. Wish I was in London long enough to try them all. Cheers!

Yelp
Great ambiance with the woven lamps. Excellent cocktails for an after dinner drink! Service was adequate, we've experienced better, but admittedly we were there on a Saturday night. Would recommend to a friend but maybe not on a busy night.

Nora M.

Yelp
Popped into this place on a rainy day with a reservation. The Waiter was very rude. The service was not good. Trying to rush the order and everyone around us as well. The food was not too good and the pancakes tasted like pure bread and super sweet. It's a well decorated place but horrible service.

Yelp
Our last breakfast in London and boy, did Rail House Cafe not disappoint. The restaurant is loosely based on a train station feel, but it is done in a beautiful, sophisticated, approachable style. There is lots of seating in an large, open setting with open kitchen and bar. The menu is really, really good, with a wide variety of standard and non-standard breakfast dishes. If you can't find something on this menu to like (and my teenage daughter tried really hard in that regard), I can't help you. As an example, she found a coconut chicken and rice dish, the ONE thing she wanted to eat. Alas, it was part of the noon-or-later portion of the menu policy the restaurant had just implemented. I need to mention that this section only represents about 1% of the entire menu, so it figures she would go for it and then we'd have to deal with the fallout. Turns out, the staff were so accommodating that they made it for her anyway, and we were all rewarded with a half-smile and a grudingly-mumbled 'this is really good'. Huge win. As for the rest of the normal humans at the table, we all loved our food, from the thick pancakes, to the smoked salmon benedict, and the shakshuka. The shakshuka is not to be missed. We had no idea what it was, and are so glad we asked about it and then gave it a shot. It is jam-packed with deep vegetable flavors (roasted peppers, tomatoes, oregano, avocado) that goes perfectly with poached eggs and generous toasted baguette slices that accompany. NOTE - if you can't handle spicy, you might steer clear of this. It's not crazy hot, but the spiciness isn't insignificant, either. We'll absolutely return.

Yelp
Excellent place, food and price. Localization is also very good (close to Buckingham palace). We went there after the Royal Guard parade on Sunday.

Yelp
Probably one of the best places I have ate at. The ham and eggs is delicious. The Mac n cheese is also perfect. Great Customer service. Had breakfast with my siblings here and their food was delicious also. Definitely coming back when I come to London.

Yelp
Stopped by for lunch and was very pleasantly surprised by this place. The interior is beautifully decorated and the staff were all great. We got a coffee, the bread and jams as an appetizer, the shakshuka and the fried chicken sandwich. Everything tasted great! The shakshuka was especially tasty with peppers and onions in a tomato sauce, 2 perfectly poached eggs, avocado and feta cheese. It also came with toast on the side. My boyfriend absolutely loved the fried chicken sandwich and chips, the chips were crispy and delicious. Prices are very reasonable here and if I lived in the area I would love to try all the other great things I saw on their menu!

Yelp
Food was amazing - So much flavor in everything we ordered! Lukas waited on us and he was the best, so helpful and kind, best of all attentive. Loved the atmosphere, great vibe - We will go back

Lucy R.

Yelp
The chicken burger was great, as well as the salmon. The Snow Comparison was also very delicious. The mixed leaf salad was extremely salty. One person at our table got the King Prawn skewer, and 45 minutes after leaving the restaurant they started coughing up wood shavings that came off the skewer with the prawns. I don't think that's supposed to happen...
google avatar

Bob C.

Yelp
Legitimately the worst breakfast I've ever had. On arrival the hostess immediately informed us we'd have to vacate our table within 45 mins even though the restaurant was 3/4 empty. Beyond the rudeness mentioned by others, the food was not just bad--it was outright disgusting. English Breakfast is not a hard thing to mess up, but somehow they made it particularly atrocious: potatoes that taste like chemicals and are barely cooked; cold, plasticky eggs; stale bread; mostly raw mushrooms; roasted tomatoes with hard stems. No seasoning whatsoever. So bad we discussed not eating it and going to breakfast somewhere else. So strange that a restaurant with such a nice venue could so terribly miss the target on its food.
google avatar

April S.

Yelp
Came here for their specialty Thanksgiving dinner. While they got the selection of food items right, I thought it was a little over priced ($60 after currency conversion) for the overall experience. Plus, our table of 8 all agreed the turkey was undercooked. I think this is likely a great, quality place otherwise, just had a bit of a disappointed experience this time around.
google avatar

Yadi V.

Yelp
Great ambience and decor. They have a varied menu and we all enjoyed our meals. I had the shakshuka and the flavors were great. A little spicier than I expected so keep that in mind. My sister got the pancakes and those were also delicious. Great experience overall.
google avatar

Annabelle L.

Yelp
Food was ok. Good but nothing memorable. We came in at 1130 and were told we could sit and have coffee at our table while we wait for lunch to start at 12. Also were told we needed to give up our table at 115 because it was reserved. (?) Not sure if this is normal but was rude. We were not offered a coffee menu or anything as she said and didn't even get our order taken until 1220. We had the wild mushroom falafel and the crispy pork belly. Pork strip was 75% fat and inedible. We came because the breakfast looked amazing. Guess we'll never know because lunch wasn't great and we won't be coming back. Currently waiting for a check, now 15 minutes after our table has been cleared. Poor service.

Yelp
I ate here for lunch and dinner during my recent trip to London as it was conveniently located near my hotel. The interior has a fantastic ambiance. European rustic with modern touches. The bar makes me think of an old rail car. The bar seating is probably some of the most comfortable in the space. The fresh squeezed juices are tasty, and the salad I had was crisp and fresh. The portions for lunch are perfectly sized. Our server mentioned that they try whenever possible to have a farm to table concept, and source their menu locally whenever possible. They informed us that the menu changes seasonally. They also were transitioning their bar, and were out of many of their drinks on the menu. The food was tasty and flavorful. My favorite item was the chips. I chicken salad and chips really stood out to me. The chips were cooked to perfection. I would have rated this four stars except for my dinner experience was completely different. The service was horrible. It was rushed, not helpful, and they forgot what we had ordered. The service here can definitely be improved. Which is a shame because once you get the food it is pretty good!

Yelp
As someone who has long bemoaned the lack of decent places to have a drink and good food in Victoria, I now stand corrected. A nice, buzzing atmosphere, good food and good cocktails. Trying to be healthy I went for a freekah and feta salad with tofu (don't judge me) - the friend went for coconut chicken and rice. Both looked great. Beware however - portions are small.

Michelle P.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and wonderful food for breakfast. Be aware of potion sides. My son ordered eggs Benedict and got a very small portion. I had a nice eggs with toast and veggies. So European loved it.

Sandy C.

Yelp
My daughter and I loved this restaurant. We had a lovely breakfast and this place had a great vibe! I imagine lunch and dinner would be a wonderful experience as well!

Edward M.

Yelp
I came here before going to see Hamilton the musical nearby. Our steaks were not good. For Sirloin steaks, they were quite fatty and only about half the steak was edible. The staff is very friendly though. I did admire the reclaimed hardwood floors upstairs near the bathrooms. I just wish the food was of a higher quality.
