"Back on the list for another summer season, Rain or Shine is a harbinger of good times and crisp waffle cones down on English Bay. The Philadelphia-style ice cream (made without eggs) features milk from Birchwood Farm in Abbotsford, along with other local ingredients like oil from Vancouver Olive Oil Company, raw honey from the North Okanagan, and lavender from neighbouring Maple Ridge. You won’t find any soy, corn syrup, modified milk ingredients, or artificial extracts and flavors. Stand back, momentarily stress over what flavor you want (including plenty of vegan and gluten-free options), then enjoy your prize while perched on a beach log as the waves lap the shore." - Nikki Bayley

One of best ice cream you can try. The price is very reasonable. The tastes are great! Specially matcha, London fog, mango, peanut butter, etc. The toping are also so good specially warm chocolate and nuts. I also like the waffle and

This spring, journey to the heart of Kitsilano and witness a spectacle that transcends the ordinary. On a sun-kissed weekend afternoon, we were drawn—no, summoned—by the sweet, ethereal aroma of freshly pressed waffle cones. Like a siren’s song, it beckoned us through the crowd and into a world of wonder. Enter: Josie’s Fave Sundae—a harmonious fusion of chocolate and peanut butter ice cream, adorned with candied hazelnuts (crafted by what must surely be dessert deities) and bathed in a warm, golden caramel sauce. Each bite was a revelation. A symphony of texture. A ballet of flavour. An $8 masterpiece that felt like it belonged in a gallery, not just a cup. RAIN OR SHINE is not just an ice cream shop. It is a performance. A celebration. A reminder that even in the everyday, there is beauty, joy, and the perfect scoop waiting just around the corner. This is not dessert. This is destiny. Do not miss your chance to taste the magic.

This was one of my favorite go to places, but this was the first time I went to this location. Their ice cream was as good as I remembered in the past. This location was quite busy and for all the traffic, it's kept quite clean. Parking could be a challenge, but there was paid street parking and some residential 2 hour parking if you go up a block or two.

Google
Lovely staff and icecream. Lots of unique and seasonally fresh flavour options. Do try their roasted strawberries icecream. Very good!

B

Google
Delicious ice cream on a sunny day! The fresh waffle cones smell so good. And the roasted strawberry ice cream has an intense flavour.

Google
Well well well look where I made it to. These guys sure know how to make ice cream no doubt about that. Give it a try and you won’t regret it. I went with the malted honeycomb, take advantage of the taste testing to find your favourite though. #seeyounexttime✌️

Google
My favourite flavour at Rain or Shine is the Roasted Strawberry summer special. It’s filled with strawberry and it’s on par with Cow’s strawberry ice cream. You are allowed taste tests so be sure to try some before you buy. When it is busy, the inside is too chaotic though with people trying to get in and out of the doors as well as the small seating area to the side making everything feel a bit cluster-phobic. The people behind the counter may also skip you because they’re working concurrently so be sure to let them know if they’ve skipped you. I would highly recommend elevating your ice cream experience by getting a waffle cone for a little extra.

Google
They can be hit and miss, but honestly usually it's a miss. Their flavors are generally shockingly bland and their quality control is lacking. Last time I got the Mayoro Sunrise ("ribboned with zingy mango passion fruit curd" said the description). It wasn't until the very bottom of the cup that I encountered any mango passion fruit curd whatsoever, a sad little beige glob that tasted of vaguely sweet cornstarch. No ribbon. No zing. No creaminess either, really, since the ice cream was freezer burned. I only finished it because I paid over 5 bucks for this cup of dashed dreams.

Yelp
Highly recommend. Good ice cream. Great friendly service. Generous scoops. Reasonably priced. Love!

Yelp
We visited Rain or Shine Ice Cream twice in our few days in Vancouver. So why not 5 stars? I will get to that. First, the good. Their ice cream is awesome and the waffle cones were fantastic. And really, that is by far the most important thing in an ice cream shop. I had the malted chocolate honeycomb on both trips because it was excellent. The star deduction came because of this: Our first visit was to the truck they had parked down at English Bay Beach. Our timing was off because they were close to closing time and so they told us we could not sample anything (despite the person in front of us getting that opportunity). It worked out because the worker suggested the malted chocolate honeycomb and it was great. A similar issue popped up at at the Kits location. We waited in a very long line. When we got to the front, my kid wanted to try one of the flavors so I said I would go ahead and try that one as well since she was getting it. I tried another and when I wanted one last sample, I was told only two. Now, I have no problem with a store setting whatever policy they want when it comes to sampling their product. It was probably crazy to decide to let people go wild sampling anything they wanted before they decided what to buy - I'm sure that adds up to a lot of "lost" product. However, the problem is in not advertising that upfront. I would have made very different choices had I known I could only try two. If two was only the policy because the line was long, then let everyone know when they get to the front of the line. If it's always the policy, post it! The ice creams I ended up with were still excellent, so well done.

Yelp
Very yummy ice cream with unique flavours. They have many locations but we went to the one located near kitsilano beach on 4th avenue. I tried the London fog and malt milk chocolate flavours and they were both creamy and delicious. My friend got the peanut butter crunch and the peanut butter flavour was so tasty, will definitely be getting this next time. There's usually a long line as it's a go to spot for many, not a surprise.

Yelp
We tried Rain or Shine at UBC last year and loved it. This time we decided to go to Rain or Shine on West 4th; we enjoyed the ice cream so much that we came back again the following week! Raspberry Sorbet with Vegan Chocolate Sauce Cracked Mint with Sprinkles Vegan Delight Cracked Mint and Vanilla Milkshake with sprinkles on top They have all sorts of interesting flavors and combinations at this shop. The Make Your Own options are quite fun; I love that they even have some Vegan options on their menu! (Although I do wish they would put just a few more Vegan options on their menu) Regardless of whether there is rain or shine outside, the yummy treats at this place are sure to bring a smile to your face! Service: Good Parking: Paid parking on the street Location: 1926 West 4th Ave., Vancouver, BC

Yelp
I'm back in California but I'm still dreaming about the ice cream from Rain or Shine. My friend even tried to ask if we could order pints to take mail home, LOL! We tried the flight of 4 scoops that included coffee toffee, London fog, cracked mint, and apple pie. Each flavor was super unique and you can tell that they spend a lot of time perfecting each flavor. The scoop sizes are also really generous for the price as well. I will definitely be back the next time I'm in the area!

Jade F.

Yelp
The ice cream here was good. However, it was nothing to rave about. I got the London fog and mint. The mint definitely tastes better than London fog. The portions are generous. I don't think I will come back the next time I'm in town. There are many other ice cream shops that I would want to check out instead.

Lal L.

Yelp
Ice cream is good, vegan option is subpar. Honey lavender and earl grey was delicious. Unfortunately, experience was ruined with rude and condescending customer service.

Jeremy N.

Yelp
Ice cream is ok but I dont know why people line up for it. Seems to have a cult following. London fog is nice. Very expensive ice cream though

Patrick L.

Yelp
I normally don't get ice cream but my friend suggested this place. There were a couple people eating ice cream outside but then once I entered, a huge line formed behind me. They let us try two samples. We then ordered 2 doubles which came out massive. Great service, great ice cream. I would come back again to try other flavors! One thing to note is that my scoops were huge but then the people after me had someone else scooping and they weren't as big. Still a good size, but not as big as mine were. 2 doubles and 1 waffle cone came out to 15.5 + tax.

Yolanda L.

Yelp
@rainorshineyvr ft blueberry lime and strawberry earl grey (seasonal flavours) We love the kits location with the nice little patio to enjoy the treats! Out of these two seasonal flavours, I personal prefer the one a little more, as I love and earl grey separately already and this combination was rich and aromatic. The blueberry lime was light and refreshing, but probably tasted more lime than blueberry. Also btw, tasting is back so if you can't choose, you can just kindly ask to try the flavours!

Tiffany C.

Yelp
They're vegan flavours are so yummy! I Wish they had more of them!! Definitely worth the price.

D F.

Yelp
This ice cream shop offers some interesting seasonal flavours however, vegan choices are very limited. The staff didn't know if the cones were dairy free or not. Sorbet had a sticky , syrupy texture. The scoop sizes were inconsistent. The person helping me was friendly and tried to be helpful in spite of limited product knowledge. The person serving my friend was rude and impatient. The offer a few outdoor places to sit but they are built into the street . I know this is common along 4th ave but between the exhaust and the noise it's not very pleasant. I'd recommend taking your ice cream to go.

Leslie C.

Yelp
We got their two scope ice cream.. the lavender ice cream never fails to impress. And then I forgot what the other flavour was but still delicious none the less! Highly recommend for this gem in Vancouver :)

Terisa D.

Yelp
Creamy, perfectly textured ice cream with a variety of flavors! Rain or Shine is the spot to go to for anyone looking for a delicious scoop! They have a variety of seasonal flavors that rotate monthly, but also a set menu of their fan favorites and classics like London fog, milk chocolate honeycomb, and cracked mint. Every scoop is satisfying in itself and always leaves me wanting more. My favorites to date are the London fog, matcha, coffee toffee, and their blueberry cheesecake when they have it. They're super generous with their portion sizes and topping in the scoop itself. They also have a list of other ways to eat your ice cream like sundaes, which are divine, milkshakes, ice cream cakes, and more. Their waffle cones are made in house and are absolutely to die for! They have just the perfect buttery-ness to it ! They're always creating unique combinations of flavors and finding ways to improve! I highly recommend!

Alex C.

Yelp
Pros: - Good selection of flavors including limited seasonal flavors. - Flavors are good and not too sweet or strong. Cons: - Busy. - Prices are a bit on the expensive side. - Waffle cones were not super fresh.

Rosalyn L.

Yelp
Ordered two cakes from here so far on separate occasions and thoroughly enjoyed both! The online ordering process is very straightforward, you can choose 2 flavours and the cake base, and you can ask them to include a special note on the cake as well as notify them of any allergies, etc. The cakes were $35 each, which in my opinion is a pretty great price for the quality you get. The first cake we got was Honey Lavender and London Fog with the brownie base, and they decorated it with raspberries and brownie pieces. The second cake was Salted Caramel and Malted Milk Chocolate Honeycomb with the brownie base (it's just really delicious) and they decorated it with honeycomb candy pieces covered in chocolate. Both cakes went above my expectations and I loved how both were decorated, it perfectly complimented the flavours of the cake. Honestly don't think I can buy ice cream cakes anywhere else from now on!

Andrew M.

Yelp
It is always good to be back since it has been a while and have tried its classic favourites. Right now just coming back for its seasonal menu. And they were super good. Coming back soon again!!

Chloe C.

Yelp
Raspberry ice cream is amazing, also they change their flavors so often you never get bored!

Becky S.

Yelp
While visiting Vancouver for eight days, we had ice cream here 3 of those days! We don't typically eat that much ice cream in a week, but this place had us craving it! All the flavors were exceptional, but our family favorite was the peanut butter. Pair that with caramel and you have a Snickers bar! We will definitely go back when we return to Vancouver. Oh, and don't be afraid of a line. They keep the line moving!

Mackenzie S.

Yelp
Ice cream was delicious as always (lavender honey) but the cashier's vibes were absolutely rancid for no reason whatsoever. I tipped $1 by accident and, frankly, i regret it.

Kyurim K.

Yelp
I tried london fog flavor and it was delicious not too sweet and full of flavor but it is quite pricy and service wasn't the best tbh

Drea S.

Yelp
Came here to order the coconut chocolate crunch! Despite it being freezing outside, ice cream is ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA! We even got the honey lavender in a pint to go! It's our favourite summer flavour from anywhere and were super excited to see they had it over here! Personally, I've never been to this location but it was packed even before closing! I'm not surprised, because the quality of the ice cream has always been sooo good! Can't wait to have our own pint at home to have after work! Yuuuum!

Xichen J.

Yelp
This ice cream shop is located along W. 4th Ave in downtown Vancouver. There is ample street parking outside. During peak hours, the line at this place can stretch quite far out the store. I tried their vegan coconut and milk choco honeycomb for $10 total. The coconut tasted a bit bland but the latter was delicious. Their homemade waffle cones are super crunchy and tastes heavenly. I would rate this place lower than Earnest Ice Cream, but worth a visit if you are looking for a flavor change.

Bambi M.

Yelp
Ice cream = amazing! We had roasted strawberry, toffee, salted caramel, all wonderful. Service... questionable. At 4:20 on Sunday Aug 7th, the woman working the register could not have been more irritated that people were in her shop. The rest of the staff was kind and helpful, she was certainly an exception.

Andrew W.

Yelp
Alright, you ever try a flavor profile so good that now the business is infallible in your eyes? Yes, that's dramatic but damn was it good. Rain or Shine was recommended to me while venturing about the neighborhood...and what good timing. I'm not sure just how long their Honey Lavender Ice Cream is in stores but it is something to be reveled while it is here with us. Paired perfectly well, the honey compliments and does not drown out the floral delicacy of the lavender. The flavor felt real, authentic, whole- not syrupy or manufactured. And the proverbial "icing on the cake," there are little lavender buds incorporated into the ice cream giving the whole experience a wholesome experience. My only issue was that I opted for multiple flavors on my cone and it really should have been dedicated solely to the lavender. I think I've said enough about the Lavender. You get it. Try it if they have it. Definitely worth venturing back for. (I suppose there are other flavors there too).

Renee R.

Yelp
So freaking good I can't even begin with what's better than what I had salted caramel (always my fav) with milk choco and honeycomb and omg freaking amaZzzzing My son had carrot cake with lavender lemonade yum and yummm Looks like their a hit spot since the line was basically out the door But def a spot to go to for ice cream Yes I'm lactose and tolerant and I paid for it in the end but man it was worth it!

Noël A.

Yelp
So yummy. I tried a honeycomb crunch (don't remember the exact name) and it was delicious! Love that a one scoop cup can be split between two flavors. Recommend

Pam C.

Yelp
I got the vegan coconut ice cream. It lacks flavour and I think it's a bit expensive for what you pay for. There was only one vegan option available when I visited. Thankfully, I came in after dinner hours and the line up formed after we got out scoops. Limited seating. Great staff behind the ice cream bar. I still prefer Earnest over Rain or Shine.

Cassandra K.

Yelp
Two words: London Fog. Our bachelorette party were walking towards Granville after lunch and decided to stop by for some ice cream. After a few tastings of the other flavors, most of us decided to get the London Fog. London Fog is essentially an Earl Grey Latte and the ice cream form is absolutely delicious. Not too sweet either! I loved how they had the option of a kid's size because it was the perfect scoop after a filling lunch.

Anna Z.

Yelp
This place is super yummy! Recommend! love the icecream pls get the malt ball and choc

Linda L.

Yelp
I still dream about the ice cream from Rain or Shine from my Vancouver Trip. For our six-night trip, we went to Rain or Shine Ice Cream at least three times. It can become busy with lines out the door but is in a nice neighborhood. There is also street parking. I have tried the Matcha, Coffee Toffee, London Fog, and Hot Bay flavors. All really good, but the Matcha and Coffee Toffee ice cream were exceptional. The best ice cream I ever had!

Christina L.

Yelp
I had a flight of 4 flavours - lavender honey: tastes like ice cream with lavender essential oil in it. I didn't find it tasty at all. - peanut butter: we both felt it tasted too salty. - London fog: a very mild tea flavour. Not too bad. - malted chocolate honeycomb: love the texture, but this was way too sweet. My partner had a sundae with cracked mint and vegan coconut. The cracked mint was not minty at all, and the coconut was kind of plain.

Meysam B.

Yelp
Lots of flavors to try. New flavors are brought in depending on the occasion. Tasty options. Helpful staff. I wish it was a bit less pricy though.

Gary C.

Yelp
We were attracted into this ice cream shop from the amazing fresh waffle cone smell from outside. We just had the thai food next store, and this icecream store is conveniently located right there! Upon entering the fragrant (is that a right adjective for waffle?) shop, we quickly learned the choices of ice cream on the black board. Some interesting choices we saw: earl grey, apple cider, HARD apple cider (with alcohol). All attracted us, we ended up trying earl grey and apple cider, both were dairy based icecream, and we liked it! This ice cream shop is definitely worth a visit

Caterina D.

Yelp
The best ice cream place! they have vegan options too. Unfortunately they don't have a washroom and seats are limited. Definitely recommend for a good quality ice cream.

Marje B.

Yelp
Been here several time, if you're walking on W 4th hot summers day this place will most likely have a line up. As you walk by you're tempted by the smell of fresh waffle cones, it's very hard to resist. I love salted caramel and london fog. Free samples. They now have a seating area outside.

Leeza N.

Yelp
I have been a huge fan of Rain or Shine for years but this is my first time at this location as it is not summertime and there are no long lineups. I decided to get the single scoop with 2 flavours, I like to do this because I'm able to try more flavours and not eat too much ice cream. I decided to get the salted caramel flavour which is on their regular menu and the white chocolate malt brownie which is on their seasonal menu. The two flavours tasted really well together, I wish that the brownie had a more chocolate flavour but I liked that the chunks were really big. The star of the show was the salted caramel... I think Rain or Shine might have the best salted caramel ice cream in Vancity.. yes even better than Earnest who had the #1 title for years LOL! The salted caramel at RoS is sooo smokey and had the perfect creaminess, I need to buy a pint soon. I also found out that they had toppings so I will try that next time since this time I got the ice cream in a cup instead of a cone cause it was easier to eat.

Nancy H.

Yelp
I'm not a big ice cream person, and the finer nuances of gourmet ice cream are totally lost on me, but I gotta say, this place serves up tasty and refreshing fare in some interesting (and delicious) flavors. And compared to the prices of all the gelato places in town, I find the prices of the ice cream here quite reasonable. Sure, it's more expensive than, say, Dairy Queen, but for a small, gourmet-esque ice cream joint, I think the prices are quite decent. My kid and I wanted to share a small cup of ice cream (we aren't coordinated enough to deal with a cone), and we couldn't decide on one flavor, so we opted to choose two flavors (even then, it was tough to choose!). We chose the London Fog flavor and the choco-honeycomb malted milk ball flavor. They densely packed the cup with both types and it cost $5 and change (not bad, right? Gelato would be much more!). The small sized cup was perfect to share and the ice cream was terrific. I preferred the malted milk ball flavor, with chunks of chewy malted milk balls in it, and my kid preferred the London Fog flavor (which really did taste like the tea-café). Looking forward to trying other flavors on the next hot, summer day!

Rizza S.

Yelp
Ice cream are supposed to coagulate right? This was not the case for my coco choco. Ok maybe its because of the coconut but then my ube is the same. What's going on here? I ordered single scoop 2 flavors. I was so excited to see the ube flavor on the menu but wasn't sure if they will do a good job with this exotic flavor and so I also got the coco choco just in case the ube turned out to be just food coloring. To be fair they nailed both the ube and coconut flavors. Both tasted the real thing. I didn't have any issues until I tried scooping a spoonful of ice cream from my cup. As soon as my wooden spoon touch the ice cream it crumbled like a cookie! I have been to this location many times and my experience with their products have always been excellent. Could this be just a one-off? I really hope so.

Priscilla Y.

Yelp
for their may seasonals, their matcha is one of the best around not being too sweet or too creamy but with a nice bitterness that is essential in matcha flavoured treats. The dirty chocolate porter is also AMAZING with those little cookie chunks and a not too sweet chocolaty base. Lemon squared is definitely tart but those little chunks were amazing...Rhubarb and orange swirl also has a nice custard and floral combination. Rain or shine is without a doubt, amazing ice cream and their flavours are quality (i love things with chunks!) Amazing and genuine people there too.

Safa Z.

Yelp
the best ice cream in vancouver! even at 9/10pm there are tons of people lined up, and it's for a reason! my personal fave is the malted milk chocolate honeycomb, but everything is delicious

Wen-Ting F.

Yelp
Rain or Shine Ice Cream What I ordered: a Single with two flavours - Malted Milk Chocolate & Peanut Butter ($5) I'm surprised it took me so long to try this place out since my friends were raving about it as one of their top ice cream places in Vancouver. About the ice cream: I'm normally more of a cake person, but the ice cream here definitely hits the spot for those with a sweet tooth. The malted milk chocolate flavour had bits of honeycomb and dark chocolate - I must say, every bite was absolute decadence. No wonder it's one of their signature flavours. As for the peanut butter flavour, well, I'm a peanut butter fanatic so perhaps I'm biased with this, but it was absolutely delicious too. It wasn't like average peanut butter ice creams where you get sweet, nutty flavours; there was a saltiness to it that really balanced the richness and sweetness of the peanut flavour. So glad to have finally tried this place out! For those that crave ice cream even in the winter, this one is definitely worth a visit haha

Lexi R.

Yelp
The goat cheese ice cream is the bomb! You can really taste the goat cheese flavor, paired with a little sweetness from the blueberry. It sounds weird but it's amazing, trust me. Their ice cream is creamy as can be and packed with flavor. I love that the ingredients are sustainably sourced. I tasted my brother's lavender honey. If you love lavender, that scoop was full of it. Their waffle cone tasted pretty fresh too! Perfect treat for a hot day.

Karina G.

Yelp
This ice cream is sooo delicious. Got a sampler and all flavors were exquisite but words cannot describe how amazing the London Fog flavor is. I will be dreaming about it until the next time I visit Vancouver.

John W.

Yelp
Lots of options. Malt ice cream was creamy and better than many other spots. Pricing is a little high, but not too extreme. Had their Taco Tuesday, $8 for 2 scoops.

Katie F.

Yelp
5 star ice cream - love love love! Great flavours, just the right amount of creaminess. The waffle cone is the best - I don't know what they do with these ones, but it has the perfect density and crunch. 3-4 star service - really depends on who you get. Nice that you can sample before you buy. Some staff aren't that enthusiastic/can't describe the seasonal flavours well and/or they could drum up a thank you when you're paying almost $7/cone at the till.

Jurn L.

Yelp
Stopped by Rain or Shine Ice Cream and the lineup was out the door the whole time we were there! I was tempted to try the seasonal flavours but stuck with the regular flavours: Cracked Mint and London Fog. Really love their ice cream here.. and I really like their waffle cone. I would definitely be a regular visitor if it were closer to me!

Paul V.

Yelp
I must be missing something here, because after back to back visits to both Rain or Shine Ice Cream and Earnest Ice Cream, Rain or Shine didn't at all impress. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? The service at Rain or Shine Ice Cream is fine, but I wasn't as impressed as I have been with some of the new age ice cream shops like Salt & Straw or even Earnest Ice Cream here in Vancouver. Nothing to penalize, but worth pointing out. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? $4.50 got me a single scoop in a cup comprised of two flavors, which was reasonable given the price points elsewhere in town. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? I simply wasn't impressed with any of the ice cream at Rain or Shine. My girlfriend opted for 'Birthday Sprinkle Surprise' or something of the like, and it tasted like overfrozen mediocre cookies and cream, which was odd. My scoops kept the overfrozen trend alive, and the consistency here was just off. Both my salted caramel and malted milk honeycomb were mediocre, and the honeycomb in particular was disappointing given I'd previously had proper honeycomb chunks in a comparable flavor at Van Leeuwen's stateside. All in all disappointing. No Stars. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? Earnest impressed during my Vancouver visit - Rain or Shine did not. No Star.

Ivone K.

Yelp
Delicious, delicious ice cream! My three rascals and I made a detour and stopped by at this place after a nice play time at the beach. The place was small, and we're lucky to be served right away. The menu is small but covers every palatte, young and the mature ones. Mr.3 went for the delicious vanilla ice cream done right, Mr.8 got the chocolate, Mr.11 had the salted caramel, while Mom in law and I went for coffee toffee and blueberry balsamic. I wished that they have more on the fruity selections. I have to say that the coffee toffee was absolutely delicious and those house made cone is just perfect, so delicate and light, a perfect vessel for my coffee toffee ice cream! The balsamic blueberry was unexpectedly delicious but definitely for the adults. The shop is so small but good thing the bench right outside the store is empty, we can sit down and enjoyed our delicious ice cream! Everyone is so happy with their ice cream and we're definitely coming back for more!
