The 16 Best Old Hollywood Restaurants - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"You could argue that Rainbow Bar is more Grunge Hollywood than Old Hollywood and probably have a solid case. But we’re including it here anyway because LA wouldn’t be the same place without it. Frequented by rock ‘n roll heads, actors, and their assorted groupies since the ‘70s, you never know who or what you might see at the Rainbow. What we can guarantee is loud music (often live), people who are there to listen to it, and big, cheesy pizzas that will silence the whiny friend in the group who wanted to go to On The Rox instead. If you’re looking to drink stiff Jack and Cokes and smoke without judgment in leather pants, this historic Sunset Strip fixture is the place to do it." - Brant Cox

Rainbow Bar& Grill - Review - West Hollywood - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"The Rainbow is probably the only bar in LA that blasts Slayer and Megadeath every night of the week. Overrun by rock ‘n roll heads, actors, and their groupies since the ‘70s, you never know what’ll happen or who you might see at the Rainbow. What we can guarantee is loud music (often live), people who are there to listen to it, and big, cheesy pizzas that will silence the whiny friend in the group who wanted to go to On The Rox instead. Rainbow Bar & Grill – West Hollywood, California - Gastro Obscura

"A part of Los Angeles history since 1972, the Rainbow Bar & Grill, featured in many songs and music videos, has been a home away from home of many rock legends. The music venue Whisky a Go Go was the sounding ground for musicians with dreams of sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Whisky a Go Go was the place rock stars came to see other rock stars perform, and the Rainbow was where they “networked.” A place that the Prince of Darkness—Ozzy Osbourne—remembered walking in but never remembered leaving, the Rainbow became a known hangout spot for rockstars and their groupies through the ’70s and ’80s. Before it was the Rainbow, the restaurant was the Villa Nova, a popular date spot of Hollywood’s biggest stars from the 1930s to the late 1960s. The heavy-hitter regulars roster included tinsel-town icons such as Bing Crosby, John Wayne, and Judy Garland. Legend has it, Marilyn Monroe walked in with Mickey Rooney and walked out hand-in-hand with Joe DiMaggio. Mario Maglieri, the manager of the Whisky a Go Go and the “pope of the Sunset Strip,” took over the Villa Nova restaurant. Maglieri and the Rainbow became a haven for the young rockers lost in the City of Angels who came to heal their hangovers with bowls of chicken noodle soup and complimentary loaves of bread. A select few rockers bellied up to the bar nightly. Above the restaurant was the secret hideout of Alice Cooper’s elite men’s drinking club. The loft was christened the “Lair of the Hollywood Vampires.” Notable members of this club have included Keith Moon, Ringo Starr, Micky Dolenz, and Harry Nilsson. To be initiated, John Lennon allegedly had to outdrink every single member. For many rockstars, the Rainbow was where they grew up. Long time regular Lemmy Kilmister, the lead singer of Motörhead, said, “the history of rock and roll is in here.” The walls are covered in mementos that rock legends have donated to their beloved second home. Most recently, the Rainbow added a life-size statue of Kilmister to their patio in memory of the rock legend’s life and love for the Rainbow. Kilmister would spend his days sitting on a ragged barstool, drinking Jack and Cokes (now called “Lemmys”) and playing video poker at the patio bar. The patio became “Lemmy’s Lounge” in his honor, remodeled with all new barstools except one. The Rainbow is a place rockstars can go where everybody knows their name but are not asked for their autograph. The Maglieri family upholds tradition and still serves Italian food, including what some consider the best ravioli in Los Angeles every night. As long as the Rainbow is open, there will always be a place where rock and roll can call home. Know Before You Go There is complimentary valet parking for customers. The bathrooms are located upstairs." - Avoiding Regret, GabriellaMarzola

Rainbow Bar & Grill has a lot of history and is known for its connection to rock music and Hollywood culture. The atmosphere reflects that well, with posters, memorabilia, and a classic bar setup that makes it feel like a landmark. It’s a unique place that’s fun to look around and take in, especially if you’re a fan of music history. Unfortunately, the service was not good. It took a very long time to be seated, and even longer to place an order. The servers seemed overwhelmed or uninterested, and we had to ask multiple times for basic things like water or condiments. Once we ordered, the food took too long to arrive. When it did come, it wasn’t hot, and the taste didn’t match the high prices. The menu is expensive for what you get, and the quality is not consistent. If you’re visiting for the atmosphere or to say you’ve been there, it might be worth checking out once. But if you’re looking for a good meal or reliable service, this probably isn’t the right spot.

Lovely staff and great music. Worth a visit for any music fan just to see all the photos and messages on the walls. And for the other Brits. They do proper cider here!

This place is definitely one of a kind! Feels like the OG Hard Rock. It’s filled with original rock ‘n’ roll memorabilia and posters, making it a must-visit for music lovers. The atmosphere is really cool, and while we visited around 6 PM, you could tell it probably gets even livelier later in the evening. The staff was super nice, and our server was beyond friendly—she took the time to explain things and had such a great energy that made the experience even better. There are multiple rooms to explore, which adds to the fun, and the whole space has a great, laid-back vibe. If you’re into music and looking for a fun, unique place to check out, this is definitely worth a visit!

My partner and I came here before a show. The restaurant is absolutely worth the hype! The decor is absolutely incredible and it was so much fun to look around and see the history of all of the artists who have been there. We had fantastic drinks and such a delicious dinner. I got soup and salad and my partner got a steak and everything was 10 out of 10. Our waitress was such a sweetheart! She met our vibes immediately and recommended some delicious beverages. Eating here before the show definitely set us up for a good night!

Last night, my husband and I, joined by two of his rock 'n' roll-loving friends, decided to hit up the infamous Rainbow Bar & Grill before catching a show for Rose Tattoo. Little did I know I was stepping into a legendary hub of rock history, where the food is served with a side of celebrity sighting and a sprinkle of confusion! We kicked things off with a Caesar salad that was just... well, let’s say it was more “Caesar salad” than “Wow, I’m alive!” It was like a salad that had dreams of grandeur but forgot its ambition at home. Then came the lasagna, which could’ve used a little more pizzazz. Think of it as that quiet kid in class who turns out to be a genius but never raises their hand. Now, let’s talk about the star of the show: the Rainbow Pizza! It was decent, definitely not the most mind-blowing pizza I’ve ever had, but hey, it’s not easy being a pizza in a restaurant known for hosting rock legends. I mean, how can you compete with all that musical talent? As I munched away, I couldn’t help but notice fans swooping in like bees to honey, thanking the rock stars at the next table. Meanwhile, I was blissfully unaware of who they were, feeling a bit like the kid who shows up to a costume party in regular clothes. “Thanks for what?” I thought, while trying to decipher the rock ‘n’ roll lingo flying over my head. In the end, we left with full bellies and a newfound appreciation for the legends that walk among us—though I’m still not sure who they were! So, if you’re looking for a pre-show meal that’s just as colorful as the name suggests, Rainbow Bar & Grill is your spot. Just remember to brush up on your rock star trivia before you go, unless you want to blend in like I did! Overall, a fun experience with a side of confusion and a dash of lasagna! Would I go back? Absolutely! Next time, I’ll just order a side of rock history with my meal.

Every time I was in LA this was the place to go down. You´re not going into a Bar & Grill you´re going into a historical landmark. This is so much more. A place that is cram packed with history and memories. And of course great food too ! I always had such a good time there. Sitting down with the owner Mikael and listening to the old stories was always such a joy. Also musicians hangarounds and a lot of interesting people. I will always cherish those memories. I found it. This is it. This is the bar. While wandering around Los Angeles, my friend and I happened upon the legendary Whisky A Go Go and Rainbow. Both famous for the rock legends that performed and partied here, walking into both was surreal and straight out of a dream. I dont have a single negative thing to say about any of it. The staff was amazing and full of stories and the vibe was unparalleled. You need to experience this place for yourself if youre a metalhead.

Yelp
Though its hey-day may have been the 1970s and 1980s, the Rainbow is still alive and kicking. And serving drinks and food. Booths are comfy and lighting was rather low, but it works. My friend raved about the pizza so we ordered that, and it was good. But -- and I acknowledge this is a strange "but"-- I found it was over-laden with mozz. Like it was five times more cheese than crust. Yeah I know, that's a lousy complaint because, as a cheese lover, I ask myself... how can anyone criticise too much cheese? But for the first time, I think I experienced such a thing. Anyway, one slice filled me up and I felt like a lead balloon. If you can hack the cheese, you'll love the pizza. Everyone who's been here has to have a story (or two, or ten) about the wild bizarre weird or kool sightings and encounters. Even I recall, some high skinny goth guy accosted us the minute we walked in the entrance, propositioning me "will you be my girlfriend?"... That was in the aughts decade. Man I wish I could track down the review I wrote about this place on the origunol soshul meedeya site, ya know, where the smiling guy Tom was everyone's friend by default. But I can't find it. So this review will have to do.

Yelp
I love this place I've been coming here since the 80s. It's interesting to see how it has changed over the years from the big hair 90s to the grunge era and up until now. We're currently here. So today we ordered pizza, app and a salad. Pretty sure due to the overwhelming demand on the kitchen, the food was ok. We ordered a large pizza that seemed more like a medium, at least that's what several people said. We felt like the pizza crust was different than usual this time. There was a discrepancy with the bill, not the servers fault so we asked for management. Somebody from Mad Max came in hot to help us out. After some crazy ranting from this person, totally off the mark and silly, a real manager came over and quickly remedied the situation. For me, though, it sort of dampened our experience this time. It shouldn't have to be so challenging to fix an error. It cost a lot for drinks and food. Easily $200. The servers and bartenders work hard. One or two staff, maybe 3, need to rethink their people skills instead of acting like its a gift for customers to be able to do business there. There is a lot of defense, irritation and short tempered behavior. There is a lot of history here. It's worth a visit if you like rock and roll. It certainly has changed with the times. I guess it is inevitable. We changed our course of action. Made the best of the rest of the night. We wish it had been a 5 star night.

Yelp
Epic night. Our Tom Keifer Band (Cinderella) concert ended at the Saban Theater, and the buzz in the front foyer was that everyone was going to the Rainbow, so, off we went! We explored the place inside and out. For those not familiar with, "The Bow," it has a well-earned reputation for hosting many rock icons over the years. You will see that Lemmy from Motörhead's presence is still very felt with a lounge, shrine, and statue dedicated to him. The inside has lots of music paraphernalia, photos, and other interesting things to draw the eye, including the rock patrons, who were all very nice. There are three floors inside, with the top floor having live music on the night we were here. We even found our way into the crow's nest, which is a little wooden room at the top, about the size of a sauna, we got the history from a rando who was holed up there. Then there is an outdoor patio and a covered patio with a bar dubbed Lemmy's Lounge which is where we sat for a spell. Drinks were good, the bartender was friendly, and it was overall just a fun and chill spot to have some drinks. They also serve food; we got a big cheese pizza to end the night. Don't expect it to be fast, any pizza will take about 20 minutes. Overall, I'd recommend stopping in for a drink at the Rainbow, especially if you are a rock fan! The characters you will meet are beyond reproach, it was an epic night.

Yelp
I have dinner often here and consider it my home base. The girls who work there are all fine, the security is hella cool, and the owner is bad ass. Makes the rest of the food around the Strip irrelevant.

Yelp
We had to check out the Rainbow Bar while in LA! We are both fans of hard rock/metal and this spot has a reputation of hosting many rock icons over the years. You will see that Lemmy from Motörhead's presence is still very felt with a lounge, shrine, and statue dedicated to him. The inside has lots of music paraphernalia, photos, and other interesting things to draw the eye. We enjoyed looking at the display of photos and recognizing many rock artists that attended the Rainbow Bar. There are three floors inside, with the top floor having live music at times. Then there is an outdoor patio and a covered patio with a bar dubbed Lemmy's Lounge which is where we sat. Drinks were good, the bartender was friendly, and it was overall just a fun and chill spot to have some drinks. They also served food (another group got pizza which looked good), but we were just having some drinks before setting off the explore again so didn't partake this time. Overall, I'd recommend stopping in for a drink at the Rainbow, especially if you are a rock fan!

Yelp
This place is basically rock 'n' roll paradise and the food is really good and relatively affordable for Hollywood

Yelp
The coolest scenery. La has some of the best attractions in my eyes. Super rock and roll & had all my favorite artist everywhere. This place was definitely my scenery. It was Ozzy Osborne in the tutu for meeee HAHA! Felt like a museum /bar. You can smoke outside and eat. What is more better then that? Can't wait to come back. I can't dim a star off because this place was THAT cool. I don't really like pizza, I tried it here it was good! I'm just more of a softer bread/puffer pizza eater. The pizza was flat. Hommade but ehh. The wings were 10/10. I'm excited to try something else off the menu next time.

Yelp
Such a cool bar. Ordered carry out and it wasn't good fun, but the drinks and experience were great

Yelp
4 stars for ambiance Tuesday afternoon around 12pm the entire place is empty Music is nice Inside is a bit dark Food serve very hot and nice The steak and scampi is nice portion and nicely cooked It came with soup and a side- we picked clam chowder that tastes like it came from a can. The double bake potato is nice because the skin is crispy and nice. The corn tastes like canned corns. Our stuffed mushroom missing the bacon bits ‍ .. we're the only customers and they still messed up the mushroom. Overall is 3.5 but rounded up to 4 Bathroom is clean

Yelp
My husband and I are rockers at heart, so when we went to visit LA, it was a must see! I've been there many times but years ago, but it was my husband's first time. He loved the statue of Lemmy, and the general vibe. It's not nearly as busy as it used to be, we had a party of 7 and were seated right away. It's so dark in there, and the service was good. They have a great menu, and really good pizza. It's pricey, but it's really good food. We ventured upstairs to the bar that was closed and snapped some pics. If you're into rock and roll and are visiting LA, you have to go to the Rainbow on Sunset!! It's a classic.
google avatar

Yelp
I got to have my first dining experience during a toast to Lemmy night, I made a reservation for dinner specifically for the event, had the BLT with onion rings, with Iron Maiden "Trooper" beer. The food and service was great, it was a fun night, celebrating Lemmy! I look forward to going again

Yelp
The best and arguably the most infamous bar in Hollywood. Takes me back to my youth and late nights after seeing my favorite bands. Anyway, great spot to hang a have a few drinks. Staff is great, drinks more than fair and food can be pretty good, but didn't eat this time around.

Nichan S.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this place. Stopped in the afternoon before a flight out of LAX on the recommendation of a friend and glad we did. We sat in the Lemmy lounge, had a couple of drinks, awesome chicken wings and the fried mozzarella. I'm not a big fan of fried mozzarella as no one does it right. Well Rainbow does. These are fresh not frozen, and they give you a ton just as they did with the wings. If I had to choose a last meal these would be part of it. Our bartender was great, willing to answer our questions. Prior to leaving we checked out the inside and what a vibe. Looking forward to getting back there and checking it out a night.

Yelp
The food was ok regular bar food but service was great we had super friendly waiters she was so great with great service The place is legendary it's like rock museum lol We had great time thank you

Yelp
Good vibes, music and bartenders. Security was garbage! We were not allowed to bring our leftovers in from a previous restaurant so he held them at the front and then we went to leave a couple of hours later. He's like oh no I don't know where anything went. Meanwhile, you know that he knows where everything went. That is complete and utter classless Security. Extremely rude. My leftovers were coming from a very high end restaurant thatrecommended that I go here. Very dissappounted and makes me realize that you can't trust anyone any longer even at their own establishment.

Yelp
Yes, its old and tired. Is it still iconic? Yes. I am a Midwesterner and when visiting my LA family they always try to take me to do and see things I would not otherwise get an opportunity to in the Midwest. I have Celiac's disease and the only real options were a salad and a gluten free pizza - which is ok, I was feeling the pizza that night and it was fine enough. The service was a little off that night, my tablemates food was delivered looooong before my pizza came out - like 40 minutes before my pizza was ready. It was fine, I was enamored with the old Hollywood stories that my family was telling me about different booths therein (Jim Belushi's last meal, Marilyn Monroe and Joe DeMaggio)... Go for the environment and the story telling.

Yelp
I've heard so much about this place and wow what a great ambience, and the perfect place for any rock and roll fan. Good vibes with tons of rock memorabilia. We waited about 30 min for our table, so we enjoyed a drink at the Lemmy Lounge. Their strawberry fields forever drink was delicious. Our waitress Dani was so phenomenal. She was a ray of sunshine and really a pure soul. Loved chatting with her. We ordered a medium Rainbow special pizza, and this is the only reason I put 4 stars instead of 5. Little bit soggy and kept falling apart. My recommendation is that they make their crust fluffier and thicker to support all the toppings. Thank you Rainbow Room !! Will be back

Yelp
35 years review. Great food, blah blah.. you know.. but I took my friend's daughters tonight. They've never been (I always take newbees). But tonight, the doorman, Beaver, did a walking tour for us. He didn't have to. That's a great guy. And the wait staff, always people I'd like to befriend. Always. This is my place, my home. I'm so grateful to live down the road. They make me happy, every time. Thank you! Get the large pizza, 3am will thank you, too.

Yelp
i haven't frequented this place since the early-80s and had trouble getting my head around what i thought of it on a recent return. but since my thinking lately is somehow less fragmented not to say foggy which is further not even to suggest soggy when i write, i'll figure things out in this update. When it's done we'll both know what i think, whatever that's worth. My total score: 100% on the 5* ambivalence scale, ie meh. The rainbow still assumes, if not presumes, a role it has played for decades: down dirty rock god central. But truth is the time for that, if ever there was one, passed decades ago along with the music it celebrates. It's pretty much the same place here now, though a bit more garish which results in there being something about it that seems to be trying too hard, not a cool act to be part of actually. would be way more interesting if it were just a legitimate dive bar, but no self-respecting joint would ever make so much a show of itself as this. A good dive bar simply is what it is, you know one when you're there without a doubt, quietly powerful as a homeplace for the spiritually bereft, and it never goes out of style. not so the rainbow, which has certainly aged into once-was days, akin to how the rolling stones have been, for a good many years now, the greatest stones tribute band in the world. Much as I continue to keep up with heavy blues rock, after decades of it I can't take this place seriously now considering the center of gravity for that music as well as the musicians is not now, and hasn't been for a long time along this stretch of sunset blvd. As for listening to live music here, you couldn't get upstairs before without a secret stage pass, today it's like come on up the stairs anytime folks. late night music scene was better down the street in the imperial gardens bar anyway. after an hour or so I left with like, what's the point? Other than having added more signed photos of now-geriatric and dead musicians, plastered on every wall (and whatup with that life-size statue of the late "lemmy"?) there's little difference between the rainbow and all the ho-hum hard rock cafes shutting down around the world past few years. Maybe the most telling thing about the Rainbow is how much more emphasis there is today on its food. If you ate anything before, it was one of their half-burnt pizzas and you likely left with a headful of diamonds. now you're more likely just gonna get a plateful of linguini and leave with heartburn. but if the place speaks to you, now's your time to be ther so go for it. rock on.

Yelp
We came here for food at happy hour and enjoyed the atmosphere and history of the place. I got a tuna melt that was very good. However, the prices are quite high even for LA (the happy hour discount made them reasonable, but I'm not sure I would come back outside of happy hour). Also, service was extremely slow. It took us over 2 hours to get our food and pay the bill from the time we came in.

Ariel M.

Yelp
Came here for the first time with my bf last friday around 8pm, I had always wanted to come here ever. As soon as we walked in, no one greeted us. There were at least three workers that kept walking by us and finally I heard one of the waitresses tell the other "can you help them I don't know what they're doing" we wanted to be seated what else could we have possibly been doing standing at the front desk? We left as the other waitress began to help us because Im not paying money for that kind of service. They seemed to busy and I hope their night got better.

Chloe R.

Yelp
I have been coming here since 1984. There was nothing better than the Rainbow! BUT, ever since the new management, it's just an angry rude atmosphere. The new guy that is there , (since there's no more Tony & Michael ) , is a total JERK. For the first time in my life, I made a reservation there since it was a birthday celebration. After one of the people sat us at our table, he walked over and says "I hope you know this is a reserved table". I said yes, we had a reservation. He says very rude and angered, you're outta here in an hour and a half! I couldn't believe it! What an a-hole! No hello. No welcome. Just rude as hell. So , goodbye Rainbow. I loved you when you were real. Not this horribly run and terribly managed and of course RUINED memory.

Yelp
So this isn't the last time I am coming to the Rainbow Room, but it's definitely the last time I'll be having their food! We came here for a lighthearted, casual Valentines Day. I came in with the expectations that the food wasn't going to be amazing, but I was certainly hoping for better than this. Ordered the chicken and ribs - what can go wrong! Well, apparently a lot. This was pretty unappetizing and my stomach definitely hurt afterwards. At least I didn't go with he chicken marsala, that looked even worse. You can't knock the Rainbow Room too much for its less-than-spectacular food. The menu is quite appealing, but this is an 80's, biker bar first and foremost. A couple drinks and maybe the pizza is the best way to go, so keep your expectations low. Overall, we still had an enjoyable time. The vibe inside is fun, it's neatly decorated with rock legends hanging on the walls and sounds of Metallica and Motörhead permeating through the dining room. What you see is what you get.

Yelp
One of the worst bars we've been too. We decided to go there after Halloween night and it was terrible... There's too much of everything but in negative sense. Don't wait to have good drinks - you'll get Jack Daniel's with mostly coke and ice, we barely could feel any alcohol. Bloody Mary was too salty. Looks like they just took it from fries because they didn't have salt at all. Food is horrible there, really oily and plain. They don't provide any sauce. Burger with dry meat and no sauce as well. Service was slow Can recommend only avoiding this place, it's overrated

Yelp
no frills no fuss, divey bar/restaurant right next to the Roxy. I was headed to the Roxy for a show and I wanted to grab a quick bite to eat and grab a beer, and found this place next-door. It's got a cool ambience with a bunch of 70s and 80s rock memorabilia and pictures strewn about the walls. If you're looking for upscale dining, or if you are a foodie I would say this might not be your ideal spot. But I don't think it's trying to be some thing it's not. The staff was super nice and helpful, the beer was cold. It doesn't seem like the cleanest place, but the bathroom wasn't a mess. If this place ripped up the carpet and updated itself it might feel a little nicer, but I don't think that's the vibe this place is going for. Will definitely hit this bar back up if I'm ever going to the Roxy.

Yelp
Great service on a Tuesday. Fast service and rock ambience of rock musicians. I had the tiramisu which was rich in flavor. Great bar too. Ordered at the bar first before being seated. Nice ambiance for an after party or show. Dim lighting and rock music.

Yelp
Loved the atmosphere and lots of characters there. Service was really excellent. Loved Joan at the front who seated us. Got a great table for a larger party and since we were celebrating the success of a friend we were all in good spirits. The food was good. We had a wide variety of options and everyone was happy with it.

Yelp
Historic bar with great photos and classic vibe. Had a tequila and ginger ale. The waitress was great and helped our large party with everything we needed. Would return. RIP Lemmy

Yelp
Rainbow Bar and Grill is an absolute gem! The service was great , making us feel right at home. We decided to try the tortellini, and it exceeded our expectations, and the portion size was perfect for sharing. Moreover, the location was ideal, allowing us to conveniently walk over to our concert at the Whisky a Go Go afterward. Rainbow Bar and Grill is a must-visit for its outstanding service, delicious food, and prime location. We can't wait to return

Yelp
I love this place. I love the old Hollywood rock charm, I love the old Hollywood rockers that still come in, I love the basic grill food, I love the Sunset Strip icon and history. I always stop by for the same thing, a basic B dinner salad and pizza, one of my favorite combinations. This last time I branched out and added a side of fries, which was the biggest plate of hot, seasoned fries I've ever seen. We devoured it. The pizza is cheesy and hot and delicious. It might actually be my favorite pizza in LA. The menu is huge, with something for everyone. It was not cheap, with pizza starting at $24, they've got rent to pay. I love that they serve food until 2am. Our most recent waitress was a bit disinterested, but she checked in and everything was fine. I do think she gave me regular pepsi instead of diet. We were seated immediately on a Saturday night around 10ish. Bonus: hot, cheesy, gooey pizza, salad drenched in your dressing of choice. Bogus: parking, it's Sunset Blvd. To be expected. Will I be back: definitely.

Yelp
My family and I have been dining here for decades! The shrimp and avocado salad is my favorite, I especially love their salad dressing. We always park at the safe parking lot located across the street at 9026 sunset Blvd

Yelp
This place is a bucket list visit for me. I was so excited but didn't expect the Legendary experience I got! As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by Dani. She was soooo friendly right off the bat! The Ambience hits you %100! My wife & mother in law were with me & she took us on a tour of the whole venue! Dani made our whole trip through terrible LA Traffic worth it!My wife & I decided to make the Rainbow Bar & Grill a Yearly spot to unwind & have a damn good meal! To someone whose never been here, I'd say it's like eating & drinking inside a Heavy Metal Museum! Thanks Again to The Rainbow & Dani for the wonderful experience!!!

Yelp
I could not wait to visit "Lemmy"s Lounge"!! Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister (RIP) loved the Rainbow so much that he moved to West Hollywood and was there every day. I had to tie a visit to the Rainbow Bar and Grill with a show at the Whisky. We loved it so much we went 3 times! Had drinks in the back bar before the show. Had amazing burgers and fries outside after the show. Came back the next night and had dinner inside. The building is so much bigger than I imagined. There is so much more rock memorabilia than I could have ever imagined. I know I didn't see everything. Everyone here is unbelievably nice and friendly. Bartenders and waitresses were unbelievably good at their jobs. The food is very good and they give you a whole lot of it. The drinks are strong and well made. It is very expensive, but it is so worth it. I had a bacon burger and fries late night. It was so good. Had an earlier dinner the next day with clam chowder and chicken Alfredo. I want to go back so bad. I will not go back to Las Angeles without visiting the Rainbow Bar and Grill. Maybe I'll go 3 times next time.

Yelp
We were so excited to eat at such a historic place for rock history. The food was a bit expensive but was really good. Our server was so kind and told all the things to see. They also had a fun selection of merch so we can remember our visit.

Yelp
Heard so much about this place that I finally decided to come check it out. I really just wanted to see the place so we came on a Monday afternoon around 5 and it was fairly empty. The place was every bit as cool as I imagined and just breathes music history. Given that it's a bit of a tourist attraction, I was skeptical about the prices and food quality but was positively surprised. Cocktails cost around $15 and were absolutely delish. An unexpected highlight was the King. The onion rings and garlic bread were solid too and the service fantastic. I can definitely imagine fun nights here and plan to be back to experience that one day!

Yelp
Always a good time here. It had been quite a while since I'd been in, but with a friend in town thought it would be fun post mid-week Hollywood Bowl show. Wasn't slammed so was fun to chat w the team. Beaver is great, what a fun guy! Didn't eat this go around, just came for fun and drinks, but the food is good! Friend bought a shirt and they were patient and let us look at a few different sizes before we made our selection. Rainbow's a classic for a reason and you're sure to always have a good time.

Yelp
I want to give the rainbow more stars for the food. It is 60-70's pre-nouveau Italian with a few innovations. It is cozy and loud, as the rainbow should. The only problem was the understaffing. one server, a wonder-waitress taking orders and serving the entire restaurant between 2 and 4pm including outdoors except for the kitchen. She did great under the circumstances.

Yelp
The Rainbow -the f***ing icon of Rock N Roll bars in the whole world. Have not been in a while. Holger, the founder of the iconic Wacken festival, took me and some friends yesterday. First, we were made to wait in the front, where I could appreciate an image of Bonfire's Edgar Patrick - an image I took ages ago. There was no need to wait - half of the tables were empty. We had a lot of fun. We really had. The food: the worst fries I ever had. The service: just as bad. It took an hour to get a drink. By the way: The only drink I got in the more than 2 hours I was there. When ordering the burger, I was asked how I wanted to have it cooked. I wanted medium rare - I got well, well done. Not that anyone bothered to ask. I find the two stars generous. Five for the place - it's really worth it, even considering you pay $20 to self-park your car. I recommend going here. I really do. Just do not eat here. Don't. Enjoy the atmosphere; best with a lot of friends. And the drinks. If you are lucky enough to get any. It would be a shame if this iconic place faded away like so so many others because of lousy food and inattentive service (nice tits, though).

Yelp
The place was lit the other day! I loved the Powerman5k band and the others. It was cool to see so many cool bands all together during their anniversary! Everyone here was super nice, and the service was great. They had amazing food too! I'm thinking about coming back in a few days for sponge.

Yelp
Did not feel welcomed by female staff. Especially if you appear to look female. The female staff were rude, condescending, inattentive, discriminating, sexist, and belittling. It's unfortunate, because this place was a bucket list venue for me. It's the place rockstars go and it's full of history, especially if you love music. But I'm disappointed in the mistreatment and lack of human kindness that I will never go again or recommend this place to any of my friends. It ruined the experience. I am a trans male in transition and I noticed 100% that I was treated differently than other cis-men for my appearance. When I walked in the entrance, the female staff there where just chatting with each other, not acknowledging me, looked at me, ignored me, and then walked away. But anytime male passing people walked in, a whole flurry of staff came to greet them with big smiles and perky behaviors. Flipping a switch of being unkind, to being the nicest people ever. When at the bar, I was standing there trying to get the bartender's attention, but was ignored. When they finally noticed me, I asked for a drink menu and they just pointed at the wall of beer bottles/cans, didn't ask if I had any questions, and turned away to do something else, giving the impression that they didn't want to serve me. But again, when a person who appeared male came to the bar, that same bartender at the bar suddenly became so cheery and delightful and gave her full attention to them, chatting up a storm asking them all kinds of questions with all smiles. Also, when asking for their lowest price options for beer (they are expensive) and happy hour prices, I felt discriminated financially, belittled, and judged for just even asking. I'm from out of town and drove miles to see this place. What a flop of an experience.

Yelp
The inside ambiance and vibe here is unmatched! Not much else to say because you have to go to experience it yourself, the inside is like nothing you'll ever see! Great history and the recipes stem from the older generations of owners so everything down to the pizza is unique and great tasting! Gotta stay Eatin' here fasho!

Yelp
I wasn't sure what to expect with this place. A friend and I were traveling in LA and we stopped here. It wasn't at all what I thought it would be. I guess I had imagined a restaurant/bar scenario. A few TVs, some sports playing, etc... I came here on a Saturday night and the place was packed. It's dimly lit inside and you get the vague feeling you came to a rock n'roll clubhouse instead of a restaurant. I felt like I wasn't properly dressed for the place and I showed up wearing jeans and a t-shirt. There are several different bars scattered throughout the restaurant. A ton of people (at least the night I was there) all around. Crowded. Noisy. Hectic. You feel almost overwhelmed. I didn't even get to try any food. I was honestly afraid to order anything. I just couldn't relax - even after drinking alcohol. I couldn't hear what my friend was saying - I felt like I had to shout to be heard. I felt like my personal space was constantly invaded. This isn't the place to be if you have anxiety like I do.

Yelp
Old school spot. Bring you back in a time capsule. They have great steaks and the ambience as well. Can't go wrong on the menu.

Yelp
It felt dirty and the punk screaming music was miserable! They should play guns & roses and other legendary rock bands that hung out there. Food was just OK too expensive for what it was. Overall just an OK experience
