A Look at LA’s Crazy Long Fast-Food Drive-Thru Lines | Eater LA

"As part of the Downey cluster, I noted Raising Cane’s is a Baton Rouge–founded chain (1996) with a very simple menu—fried chicken tenders, crinkle-cut fries, coleslaw, Texas toast, and a spicy mayo sauce—and that the chain has over 500 U.S. locations and is only recently entering Southern California with a few dozen restaurants, mostly in southeast LA County, Orange County, and the Inland Empire." - Matthew Kang

Google
So my boy asked me to bring him some of that chicken, which I’ve never had so I thought I’ll stop by and check it out when I come in full of teenagers young people youngsters I could probably see at least 60 youngsters and 10 of us adults that place was packed a lot of good vibes , nice environment it looks like it’s very popular for teenagers. I tried the chicken and the dip and sauce the bread and coleslaw. I gotta say it’s pretty good I’ve never had it. Now I know it’s a good place to eat.

Google
amazing workers! BUT THIS REVIEW IS FOR CANES CORPORATE why are yall giving us the smallest tenders ever! PLUS YALL RAISE THE PRICE? shake my big ass head. Do better

Google
Food is great, 1 of my favorite restaurants

Adrian L.

Google
Nice place to take a break of life, enjoy the moment and breath joy.

Google
My favorite cane's and it's always a good experience. My only super minor critique is that like one out of every five trips, the Texas toast would be soggy instead of crispy as it should be. I mean, it's fast food, but it sure tastes great and I think I have an addiction problem because I keep coming back at like 2 am. 😂

Google
This experience was a drive-through option. On this day about noon, during the week, the line was short and quick. The service was quick. The food is fantastic, a bit on the pricey side- but it's worth it. The Chicken tenders were hot and the taste was fresh, and coleslaw was fresh as well. The lemonade was fantastic. Most importantly, it's the chicken tender sauce the gives you the best taste experience. I highly recommend and would eat here again.

Yelp
This is great place to grab fried chicken and you would not be disappointed. The chicken is moist and crunchy at the same time. The Texas toast bread is buttery, soft and delicious. Their secret sauce is a must have with the chicken. It adds a whole different flavor. The only frustrating factor about this place is the possibility of receiving an incomplete food order. You try to save time going through the drive through during your lunch break and once you are home, you find that they missed a chicken piece or another item you ordered. I would recommend checking on your order before you leave but due to long lines during lunch hour, you are always in hurry. From experience- they would give you the missing item but if it's chicken don't shy away from asking a fresh order. As you drive away from the restaurant once, then back to pickup the missing item and then back home to eat which for me ends up being a 30 minute trip in total. After 30 minutes, those original tenders are cold.
google avatar

Rob A.

Yelp
This is my go-to for chicken tenders. Careful, they're sometimes hot when you start. Not the spicy kind of hot but the freshly made kind of hot. Add Cane's dipping sauce and it's 'mm 'mm good. The tenders are paired with perfect crinkle fries. And then, a piece of nice golden brown Texas toast. If you go with the 4 piece combo, it includes some nice coleslaw as well. All Cane's have the military discount - bonus. Always busy, the staff does a good job keeping it clean. Friendly Cane associates everywhere. Loud but comfortable if you're eating inside.

Yelp
Absolutely unacceptable I received the tiniest chicken finger I've ever seen. I thought "oh maybe they threw an extra one to count for the tiny one" but nope they counted that as a whole chicken finger!
google avatar

melina a.

Yelp
Orders 2 piece chicken and toast on side , I was charged for a cane sauce $50 they gave me a receipt doesn't have a name , bummer and I thankfully checked my bag to find out I didn't even get 1 sauce and I wanted EXTRA sauce . Please double check orders

Yelp
xanes so good the service and the food so amazing and the have a disco ball inside jts so cool and good

Gabriela M.

Yelp
This is the worst experience ever. The pieces are though and tiny. Even the three piece combo had larger overall chicken portions than what is placed in meals now. Very disappointing.

Yelp
Hi, I recently visited this restaurant. and just wanted to give a point scale review on my experience. Also I would like to share some notes as well. 1 being needs improvement, 10 being excellent Parking: 3/10 it's a big l parking lot that's shared by other businesses. So if you don't get parking in their spots you'll end up parking far away. Outside appearance: 8/10 brand new build so it's pretty clean Inside appearance: 8/10 kept clean to RC standards. Staff service: 8 /10 standard RC service Food and restaurant experiance notes: I love their chicken but the wait In line is ridiculous hopefully them opening more will lighten the load and I'll give em a 4 rating if they want a 5 rating cook the food in beef tallow instead of seed oil.
google avatar

Mira O.

Yelp
Food - Average chicken tenders Service - Friendly but on the slow side Ambiance - Nicer Fast food seating Not my favorite place, but the family likes it. I think it's just passable. Meh.
google avatar

Griselda S.

Yelp
Every time you see a line it means the food is good. Well let me tell you that Raising Cane's always has a line. I hate waiting in line but for Raising Cane's I definitely would wait. Luckily, I don't have to since I always order ahead. There's a big parking lot and they have a drive thru. The food is amazing so I definitely always come often.
google avatar

Daisy A.

Yelp
It's a Saturday past 1 PM what was I thinking! 28 minutes later the boy got his three fingers chicken tenders. I don't like the food here but my kids like it's so this is what I do .. wait in long drive thru lines for canes chicken. Everything is pretty much organized, the staff are friendly . Will I come again? Yeah but not by choice! Kids choice!
google avatar

Dante W.

Yelp
Nice fast service, food was fresh L's they too their time with helping me out with my caniac member card. Food was ok definitely could've been cooked and prepared a little better. I used the drive through so I didn't really get to experience the stores ambiance, but the outside was clean.

Yelp
I was craving Raising Canes all week so here I go Friday night to satisfied my craving Downey location, When I walk in to order my food first of all the lobby was disgusting trash n the floor, dirty tables just a complete mess, the casher had a fushy face not happy at all just look miserable, she handled my cup for fountain drink I got my coke n it was flat I approached her ask I want a lemonade she gave me another fushy face and took for ever to get my drink my chicken strips where the smalls pieces I ever seen out of a chicken breast they did multiple strips, I dont recommend this location at all keep away !!!! Also youngster when working in a fast food it's a fast pace, n multi task n smile at all times if you don't have those qualifications don't apply..

Yelp
Raising Canes always hits! My cousins from Oregon where in town. They e never had Canes. So we went. They thought it was ok. But I loved it. Always do. My only complaint is their chicken tenders are starting to get smaller and smaller. Literally the size of a finger. And they keep Raising prices. Not sure how much longer I'll support. But this visit was good. I always avoid the drive thru. Just walk in. Service was blah. Young lady seemed like it was her first day. Small dining area. Keep up the good work. Lower your dang prices lol
google avatar

Blanca P.

Yelp
I wish i could say these are my leftovers but this is actually what i received when i ordered. It literally looks like f*cken leftovers 0 stars
google avatar

Irene G.

Yelp
Went for a The 3 Finger Combo and left disappointed. Hardly any fries, chicken is super small, half the size of the bread. Looked more like a kids meal to me. Please check your food before leaving restaurant. Staff looked lost when I asked for my order that I had placed online. Took 20 min to get my order. Overall taste was alright. Sauce was great though.
google avatar

Alexa C.

Yelp
If you've never had canes before then you should try it! Canes chicken tastes very bland like tempura, which is why they probably always pair it with their canes sauce. When I first tried it I didn't understand the hype it was just bland chicken with sauce. But then I started craving it lol. Bonus points because they're open til 3 am when everything else is closed. LOVEEEE the bread and this is one of the few places that serve Hi-C Fruit Punch.
google avatar

Yelp
Really enjoy this food, the sauce is good with the chicken and the Texas toast is probably the best part of this whole place. Can't forget about the fries, I'm not a huge fan of coleslaw so will get extra fries. The ambience is ok, the times I've been here in the early years, the lines were really long so avoided coming into the parking lot when I noticed a long line. Now for the service, most of the workers are polite, but not sure how their listening skills are when someone is placing an order. It's a hit or miss with this spot and their workers taking orders. Will usually order the caniac combo, with extra fries no slaw, with two extra Texas toast, will sometimes say three total Texas toast because sometimes they'll count the toast that's in the combo and just give me two total. Like today, I ordered the same combo and checked the bag real quick making sure I had both boxes, but once I got home, the bread box (small box) had three extra sauces, no extra Texas toast. The previous time I had this issue, I didn't get the bread box so had to circle into the parking lot, once I parked I checked the receipt and they didn't put my extra two toast so once I went inside just placed the order for two extra toast. I guess from now on I'm going to put my car in park and open every single box making sure my order is correct while holding up the line. Also will probably start asking the worker taking the order to repeat the order since they don't provide the receipt but inside the bag. Before I started checking the bag, I would drive home and notice I was missing something, so decided to check the bag to make sure I had every box, but like I said now I will have to take precautions in order to make sure I get exactly what I ordered. So took a star off for every order that has changed the way I look at raising canes. First star was for when I would get home and would be missing items. Second star was when they didn't put my Texas toast in the order so didn't get the box in the bag so had to go inside to reorder. And third star for giving me the right boxes but the wrong items. Maybe I'm just kind of annoyed that these things keep happening but hopefully they read the worst reviews to help fix the problems they're having.

Yelp
Day 2 of giving daily Yelp reviews that rhyme I recently visited Raising Cane's in Downey And let me tell you, it was quite a letdowney The fries were soggy, the chicken was dry I was really disappointed, oh my oh my The sauce was the only saving grace But even that couldn't save this place I expected more from a chain like this But all I got was a plate of miss I'll never be returning to this joint I'd rather just eat at home and avoid the point Of wasting my money and time on this junk I'm leaving a one star review, that's a chunk Of how bad it was, it was really a shame I'm not one to usually leave such a name But Raising Cane's in Downey just didn't cut it I suggest you give it a miss, don't even try it
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
Wow Good place to grab lunch. I receive good service, a clean chicken meal. Not greasy or fatty. The restaurant was crowded, not enough dine in tables but fortunately some kind young ladies were willing to share a table. I would eat here again. Yikes I am finished eating, trying to get out but so many cars at the drive thru, I'm stuck. Not the best lay out for parking it would make more sense to not have a dine in and only a drive thru. Still good food.
google avatar

Sayra M.

Yelp
So my husband just got home from buying Canes for dinner. He purchased extra cane sauce for me, he asked the person in the window if the extra cane sauce was in the bag, the girl replied it's in the box with an annoyed voice. He gets home opens the boxes and of course the sauces were missing. This is not the first time this happens to us. So it was time for a review. And NO we are not going to drive back to complain because we do not live in the Downey area.

Deja W.

Yelp
This location does not ever satisfy me, everytime I try to give them a chance, they blow it. It's either cold food and the staff is unapologetic if you return. The restaurant is dirty or they are handing the wrong food out. I'm uncertain if they have a quantity over quality attitude here but surely it does seem that way. I called to try to make my order right, and the person answering was named Abby. She simply disconnected the call while I was speaking. When I called back to ask for store manager information, she said she couldn't provide me with anyone higher than her. She didn't even want to give a time I could reach the store manager. Customer service is a 0. Food is a 0. And speed is a 0. Ridiculous. Not to mention her double charging for my order.
google avatar

Joanna M.

Yelp
I have came to this location always since it's on the way to my house but for some reason they always forget something but they make sure to charge you for everything you ask extra for I would not recommend this location. Horrible
google avatar

Luis H.

Yelp
Got a 6 piece combo and this is 2 of the pieces I got absolutely no chicken all batter , check your food before you leave. Can't believe this would make it out the kitchen bad on the cook's part

Nancy L.

Yelp
This is hands down, the best location that I have frequented! The chicken fingers are so very good, tender & well cooked! They always get it right! The location is near the mall & convenient to different businesses. The restaurant is clean & bright. The assistant manager Vernon & his staff, provided me with excellent customer service!! Thank you!
google avatar

Hippy M.

Yelp
Insanely good food, great service. I have never seen a frowning face from a customer or a staff member. Everyone is super friendly. FAST- lightning fast drive thru service, and the ordering process was smooth and efficient. Pay the extra .43 for the sauce. It's worth it. Bear chicken ever.

Suzie A.

Yelp
I will not go back ...this place does not completely fry the chicken. The batter just slides off... fries in combo were half full and the food was cold. The only good thing is the toast. Canes is skipping

Miguel V.

Yelp
As always, the food is great and absolutely worth the wait. Although, I have found myself eaten canes just about every week and have been filling in my shirts a little too well. Regardless, the service and quality of food is amazing. Great job

Yelp
TL;DR Bad chicken, good sauce. Very overpriced. Long lines that move quickly but still takes way too long for the disappointing chicken. They only sell their sauce to go in large soda cups, which is ridiculous. $18 bucks for a 6-piece meal. Yikes. Yay or nay? 0/2 Finally came back and this time I made sure I received the sauce for the chicken. It didn't help. Chicken was still bland, wasn't juicy or tender. Sauce was good but it doesn't mask the lack of flavor of the chicken. Fries were not seasoned consistently. First few were nice and salty, but the rest were blander than the chicken. The only thing this place has going for it is the sauce, but for some reason they refuse to bottle it. They will sell it to you in a large soda cup, but that's just dumb to me lol. The actual soda I had (Dr. Pepper) was very watered down and gross. They didn't get anything right on my visit. As long as this place has a long line to buy their chicken, I don't see them selling their sauce as a side business when they can charge you 18 bucks for a few strips of under-seasoned and overcooked chicken. Shady business model. "Reel 'em in with the sauce and overcharge the chicken!" Expense 0/1 Chicken is incredibly overpriced for the quality. $18.54 for a six piece meal lmao. It does come with fries, coleslaw, a drink and the tiniest piece of "Texas Toast" I've ever seen, but still not worth it at all for me. Location 1/1 Location has indoor seating and drive thru. The lines have always been extremely long every time I've driven by. However, like In n Out, they have someone outside taking your order and charging you (if you pay via Debit/Credit card). While the line does go by pretty quickly it still takes a while because of how popular this place is. I came by on Saturday at around 1 AM and still had to wait about 20-30 minutes for my order. Staff was polite. A fellow Yelper mentioned you can sub the coleslaw for extra fries, and they had no problem doing that when I asked them to. Plan to return? 0/1 Nope. Now that I finally tried their sauce with the chicken, I can confidently say that this spot is not for me. I hope they choose to bottle their sauce someday. I would come back to buy a bottle if they did. Hope they take a page out of Fatima's Grill and just sell the only thing this place has going for it in a reasonable manner.

Alani R.

Yelp
Love the flavor of the food I'm a sucker for their sauce, but it's always a 50/50 on quality ... or worse ... the chicken is either perfectly cooked but in TINY pieces or decent sized and overcooked and HARD... if this is the only thing on your menu, you should be able to get it right with quality control by now.
google avatar

J R.

Yelp
I'll start by its overrated. Fries are meh. Tenders are okay. Toast is wack. They may be fast but the product is mediocre. Would have given them 3 stars but they HAD to charge for sauce because none of my 10 strips and 2 fries warranted any sauce. I also bought 2 combos and each combo some with one sauce. $52 bill and this nickel pinching company can't give a couple sauces. That's bad business. Half my bill was more than 2 combos. 1 sauce for 1 combo. $100 of food with no combos and no sauce.
google avatar

Elizabeth R.

Yelp
I don't think I've seen a Canes this busy! The drive thru and inside lines were so long. Mobile order was also popping off. Surprisingly the line didn't feel super long and we didn't wait terribly long for our food after we ordered. Food was good, staff was nice, restrooms were decent and the inside area was very clean.
google avatar

Heidi M.

Yelp
What CANE I say, the chicken fingers were delicious - juicy, crispy and hot! My bf and I visited this location on a Saturday night and there was a long line at the drive-thru. Instead of going through drive-thru, we parked and went inside. This location is next to Olive Garden and near a mall. Inside wasnt so busy, we ordered right away and got our food fast. The chicken fingers combo was my favorite but the sandwich is also good. The texas toast and crinkle-cut fries were fresh and the Cane's sauce is a must with the meal. The location has booths and small tables inside, the staff was cleaning the tables and we snagged a booth and enjoyed our meal.
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
So I was in the area and the drive-thru line was finally short, so I decided to try this place. I ordered the 3 Chicken Finger combo. Chicken is really juicy, it's breaded nicely, and has a good fry and crunch to it. The chicken tastes great on it's own and does not need any dipping sauces, but I do love sauces and this Cane's Sauce is pretty unique and dang tasty. Crinkle-cut fries were just okay, nothing special, but I did enjoy dipping my fries in the Cane's Sauce because they needed some flavor. I also love bread, and before many people would tell me, "but wait till you have the bread!" So after having the bread, it definitely had that Texas toast flavor, but I felt like it was lacking the butteriness and toasty-ness that I prefer from a piece of Texas Toast fresh right out of the the oven. I probably would never make a special trip to go, nor would I ever consider waiting in a long drive-thru line; But if I were in the area again and it was the only place open, I would definitely pick Raising Cane's over those other open 24 hours fast food chains any day!
google avatar

Alma B.

Yelp
The drive thru entrance sucks. They have 3 lines that merge into 1 lane with no organization.

Julie Q.

Yelp
The food was very good. I had 1 issue with my order, my soda was filled 3/4 way with ice. I took a couple drinks and it was gone. I feel you shouldn't put that much ice unless asked for extra ice. Thank you.

Nate S.

Yelp
Greatness on a platter. No notes. No slaw extra toast. Lemonade to drink. Box combo when I'm in a rush and caniac otherwise.

Lupyta D.

Yelp
Went to canes to show my brother how good the food is but instead after eating my first chicken finger I look down and there a long black hair in my chicken fingers. I called back they offered me a refund or for it to be remade but honestly I won't go back to this location. This is my first time going to this location and I'm honestly disappointed and surprised I have never had issues at the other canes locations.

lunatic l.

Yelp
Some lady name Angie tried to over charge me for my food and the manager wasn't a help to me at all either. Don't come to this place and expect some good customer service. Expect a long line form some people that is not so friendly.

Elizabeth N.

Yelp
Make sure to check your orders upon getting them, we drove away and when we got home we notice that the chicken tenders where very small pieces and had hardly any fries. When I called Canes' to let them know about my order her response was ' and ' as and what do you want me to do. Other places they apologize if the order seems poor or is not correct NOT HERE. Sad looking order but the customer service was worse.
google avatar

Juju A.

Yelp
Bread, chicken, bread and chicken! That sauce omg! Take all my money lol my kids absolutely love this place and I can appreciate it because it gives us a break from pizza and burgers line is always long but I do make it a habit to order in advance so it's a quick pickup without issue.

Adrian M.

Yelp
Bought a 3 piece combo and literally only got two small pieces in the box. Food was alright but considering the price I paid for this and another box combo that also got really tiny pieces, it extremely inconvenient that the quantity of food doesn't make sense with the amount I'm paying.
google avatar

Oscar D.

Yelp
Where do I begin. After seasons of not having fast food I decided to break my fasting with Canes. After having had a conversation with a local food connoisseur; he recommended I have some of Cane's famous chicken. I was shocked because I had never tried Canes and honestly didn't even know it existed. After entering this fine establishment I was greeted with a smile and strict yet necessary social distancing protocols. The cleanliness was next to godliness here. I ordered the 3 piece meal, drove home, and ate it. It was an explosion of flavor and deliciousness. Honestly I was taken aback by the quality of the food. Thank you for the unforgettable experience.
google avatar

Vontavia H.

Yelp
It's all in the sauce! Don't let the long lines deter, it's definitely worth it! Like Chick-Fil-A, the chicken by itself is pretty mid, but once you add the sauce? Heaven! And the bread is so yummy! I dip the bread, fries, and chicken in the sauce! Delicious!

Brie L.

Yelp
literally ordered a three finger combo to go and they forgot my chicken tenders. they left me with bread and fries like are you serious??!

Yelp
Waited in this long line to find out they're out of coleslaw and it's only midnight. Customer service was subpar and unapologetic. Disappointed. Update: I honestly didn't expect a response but was pleasantly surprised. Roger, the manager at this location called and wanted to rectify the situation, so he credited us for our meal and added an additional credit. He was professional and apologetic, wanting detailed information so he could address the problems and the staff. Changing our 2 stars to a 3 for now just because of Roger. The next time we go, we'll update on the customer service, as well. Update #2: My son went to pick up the complimentary meals we were given on two separate occasions. Customer service was top notch and they apologized again for the previous experience. Such a pleasant surprise to have management reach out and truly care about the customer experience. Hats off to the Downey location and manager! Thank you!

Stephanie M.

Yelp
When I say my kids want canes EVERYDAY! I'm not exaggerating. I take them every so often between this location and the one in Monterey park. I've never had an issue before but today I ordered $80 worth of food for myself and my family. In the drive thru I let the employee know we were missing items. He insisted everything was there. I told him it wasn't because I only had 4 plates plus the kids meal. He still suggested everything was there. We left and when I got home, guess what... I was missing food & a drink. I know I should have double checked but they pack the bag where you can hardly look through things and he was so sure everything was there smh

Jose R.

Yelp
THIS LOCATION GAVE MY FOUR YEAR OLD AND I FOOD POISONING. As I was waiting in line to place an order, I noticed a teenager sitting in a booth with his family spit food out of his mouth and into a napkin. I thought this was odd but didn't think too deep into it. While eating the tenders, we both felt like we couldn't finish our food. After we partially ate our order of tenders around 1pm, we headed home. Around 2pm, my son began to complain about stomach pain and at the same time I was feeling the same pain along with feeling unusually fatigued as if I was coming down with a cold. I immediately laid down and felt the flu-like symptoms worsen. at 4:30pm I threw up (light colored chicken). it is now 5pm and my son just threw up the same. crying and stating he never wants to eat there again. That makes two of us. I will be reporting this to the LA County Health Dept. so the appropriate actions can be taken. I'm certain I won't be the only one. DISGUSTING.

Mohsin Q.

Yelp
We get dinner every Monday from here, last 3 times including today their service is horrible they are always forgetting to put all the items, last time they didn't give coleslaw I am the last person to complain so I said whatever and did not give sauces, each trip is $60-70 dollars, today i told them you guys did not give coleslaw or sauces last time, so make sure you put them in today, the worker goes okay we still have to charge, I am not worried about a dollar but that was unnecessary, and I get home they again did not put sauces, it's roddiculas I did not want to leave this comment because I love their food but their service sucks.
