Montreal’s February 2022 Restaurant Openings | Eater Montreal

"After opening in Brossard in 2019, I checked out their new Plateau location on Mont-Royal by De la Roche and found the spicy red miso ramen — their signature — notable for being made with sake and a tonkotsu broth; they also offer tsukemen (noodles served dry with a bowl of broth for dipping) and tan tan noodles darkened with black sesame. Founded in 2013 by Japanese-born chef Koji Zenimaru, this is the chain's second Quebec location and it's open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m." - Valerie Silva

Very nice spot for ramen. I really enjoyed the food and the service. Space is small but super comfortable. Nice atmosphere. Pork & eggs seem to be seasoned differently then other spots I've been to. Just to note that it's tasty but different. Would recommend

Second star is for the waitress as she was very nice and attentive. Otherwise the Chashu slices were uneatable. They were sour, as if brined in vinegar or the pork was bad. When we complained the chef said that is how they are supposed to be and they changed the recipe recently. He also said next time we should mix it with the soup. Not sure how that would help as they are already in the soup. We ordered the plain miso and normal spicy shio ramen, so there was nowhere for bad flavour to hide. Maybe they want you to order the extra spicy so it will eliminate the sour tasting pork. They ended up giving us 10% off our bill so we spent $40 for noodles and soup.

They have really great ramen. I first loved this spot in Toronto. It’s good to have it in Montreal too. Classic tonkotsu is so reach and flavorful, reminds me my trip to Japan with the first try.

Google
Lovely little ramen place with vegan options ! The food was fantastic, garlic edamame were wow (you need to ask without fish sauce) and the potato and corn fritters are vegan too. Ramen were delicious, they use kale pasta for the vegan version and I would have never guessed that it was kale ! My only complaint would be that the waitress wasn’t aware of the menu ; at first when I asked for the vegan options she said nothing is vegan, only vegetarian… so then I asked what about kale noodles with the vegetarian ramen no egg, and she had to ask, when a big advertisement was promoting « vegan vibes » with the ramen bowls. Other than that I loved the ambience and you can order online directly to place your order. Ohhh but the little table lamps weren’t working, that made me sad 🥹 but I would def go back, you just always have to be careful !

Ramen Isshin is a cozy spot that’s worth a visit. While I don’t usually go out of my way for ramen, this place left a good impression. The location is very convenient, with plenty of parking options nearby, including free parking if you’re willing to loop around on the side streets. The restaurant itself isn’t very large, but the decor and ambiance make it feel warm and inviting. When we visited, it was lineup-outside busy, yet the service was excellent. There was only one server handling everything when we arrived, and he did a fantastic job keeping up until another staff member joined mid-service. The kitchen was impressively fast in preparing meals, which made the wait feel shorter than expected. The menu, while not extensive, covers all the staples you’d expect at a ramen spot. The portions were just right for the price, and everything arrived fresh and hot. The seasoning was a bit on the strong side for my personal taste, but that’s to be expected at a ramen restaurant. Overall, Ramen Isshin is a solid choice for anyone craving good ramen in a comfortable setting. Even if it’s not your usual cuisine, it’s worth checking out.

Google
A superb place to eat ramen! Quick and personalized service, excellent presentation, and a delicious array of flavours. Recommended to order the spicy sauce on the side for the spicy shio. Not a big difference between the thick and regular noodles. Overall, a great place for ramen and the lunch special is the best way to try a few dishes for an extra bang for your buck!

Google
Food was great! Not the fastest service and didn't all come at the same time. Ramen was amazing though! Had the Black garlic shoyu and the tan tan

Yelp
Place had space for people who are dining alone to sit. Service was fast. I scanned a QR code and ordered my food and paid. The guy brought out the food super fast. )

Yelp
Truth be told, I practically inhaled Isshin Ramen's famous´Wok Fried Red Miso Ramen' in minutes as it was so tasty! Each signature bowl always starts in the wok, where they fire up minced pork, garlic and bean sprouts. Added is an assertive blend of red & white miso, sake and other seasonings. Piping hot broth is then poured over a fresh bed of noodles which melds all the flavours perfectly together to give it that unique Isshin smoky taste with veggies to provide that crunch and sweetness to balance it all. A whopping choice of over 15 different types of ramen, as well as seasonal ramens, flavourful vegetarian and vegan options are available. And although ramen is their cornerstone, you cannot miss out on their appetizers! We gleefully shared chicken karaage, dumplings, donburi bowls, and takoyaki over refreshing Japanese beers and also a hybrid sake and beer drink. Finally, you no longer have to cross the bridge over to Brossard to enjoy a hearty bowl of ramen from @ramenisshin - just head to at their new spot in the Plateau! Although they have 4 locations in ON and 2 in QC, you can expect the same uncompromising attention to detail and quality of food, taste, plating, and service at any of them. The biggest challenge in multi-restaurant management is in making sure that you offer a consistent dining experience across all your locations - they nailed it. Perhaps one of the reasons we keep on coming back? In case you were wondering, Ramen Isshin means one heart one ramen. And the 3 ring symbol represents the 3 founders who complement and complete each other. Koji for creating the menu, Jason for the operation and Adam for the marketing. They all share the same vision, to recreate the best ramen experience one bowl at a time - wherever and whenever you taste it! Note: if you plan to come with a big group, make reservations to ensure seating as space is somewhat limited.

Yelp
This is by far the BEST vegetarian ramen I have ever had. Someone in the United States PLEASE by the rights and get this available closer to my home. When we head up to Montreal... we get an order 'to go' to take back home. You can do it too :)

Yelp
When we went looking for a ramen place for a take-out lunch in which to continue an important conversation, we discovered this authentic looking ramen spot. The faux wood sign out front had a real Japanese Izakaya vibe and even more so once inside in the entrance way, with lots of dark wood and authentic looking decor accent pieces and wall hangings. The gentleman who welcomed us did so authentically as well, and was very helpful while going through parts of the menu which helped each of us respectively to determine which of their many ramen offerings to get. I opted for vegetarian with the garlic broth and the other half of our duo got their popular spicy broth. They offered us a glass of water while we waited - even though it was only about 10 minutes at quick estimate. During that time I got to peruse their decor and feel out the vibe further which also had quite over seas feeling (as much as can be expected) when not actually in Japan. Of those who try to capture the essence; this long-thin-one-room-spot does a nice job. Our portions were served up in neatly stapled brown paper bags with a red stamp of Japanese characters in the top right corner. Since it was takeout, I can't say how nice the in-house spoons and bowls might have been, but at least they provided us with those deep-dish-type spoons. We responded yes to chopsticks too, so that helped make the picnic ramen experience a little more real and fun. The broth was definitely flavourful and the noodles nicely Al dente, plus the bamboo and mushrooms hit the spot. You know ramen is good when you wish there was more left in your bowl, but still the portion size was reasonable. Funny enough, I realized afterwards that they give you an envelope with a square of seaweed paper to put in yourself when you open the container. Since I found it late in the soup-slurping-game I just ate it for dessert. Surely that's a unique after meal bite. A little savoury, but makes for a good story and self-chuckle.

Yelp
Ramen has too much salt. My friend was unable to eat his ramen cause of too much salt. Everyone at my table complained that the ramen has too much salt. Waitress said she can't do anything about it as it is prepared like that. Waitress is completely useless. Then I overheard the waitress talking to the manager about it and the manager was being racist saying because Chinese people don't like too much salt. Then the manager asked me if I was Chinese and I said no. I was offended and told the manager that race has nothing to do with ramen being too salty. This place has poor customer service! Condescending attitude! Overpriced!

Yelp
This restaurant's food was pretty good and they did have a lot of good options such as the edamame. I I personally have never been one for edamame but when I tried the edamame here it was amazing and a great order. They also had a nice outdoor eating area. However when our food came they did mix up who's good was who's.
