Ramen Ryoma Expands to Pacific Beach | Eater San Diego

"I learned that Ramen Ryoma has opened its second San Diego outpost on Garnet Avenue in Pacific Beach and that at least three locations are planned for the city; the shop joins a Kearny Mesa location that debuted last summer and an original branch in Beaverton, Oregon. Chef/owner Yoshinari Ichise is hosting a grand opening event on January 19 and 20 at both the Kearny Mesa and Pacific Beach locations offering half-price ramen. The Garnet Avenue shop operates Monday through Saturday from noon to 11 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 10 p.m., and features a signature Sapporo-style ramen that combines a miso base with a pork bone broth, as well as shio and shoyu varieties; each ramen comes with hand-massaged noodles designed to retain their texture in hot soup and pork chashu that’s boiled in soup stock for five hours before being soaked in the restaurant’s original “Tare” sauce. Other menu items include Japanese-style sausages cooked in a beer bath, rice bowls, buns, and snacks ranging from takoyaki to fried chicken karaage. Ichise also says a 2,800-square-foot Hillcrest location with a second-floor loft and sake bar is scheduled to open on University Avenue in May." - Candice Woo

Sapporo-Style Ramen Checks Into Kearny Mesa | Eater San Diego

"I learned the Pacific Beach branch, due to debut on Garnet Avenue later this fall, will put a bigger emphasis on seafood dishes and offer a larger beer selection." - Candice Woo

Ramen and Izakaya Combo Prepping for Kearny Mesa, Pacific Beach, and Hillcrest | Eater San Diego

"Scheduled for a November debut at 825 Garnet Avenue in Pacific Beach in a space that has housed several other ramen shops, this Ramen Ryoma will offer the same house signature ramen and izakaya-style small plates, with a specialization in Sapporo-style miso ramen built on a long-simmered pork bone broth mixed with a miso base made in small, 12-serving batches and served with hand-massaged “temomi” noodles; shio and shoyu broth options will also be available." - Candice Woo

Visited Ramen Ryoma for the first time after hearing glowing recommendations, and the experience was a pleasant spin on a classic ramen night out. Kicked things off with the karaage chicken, which really nailed it, crispy, flavorful, and clearly a must-try on the menu. For the main event, I went with the butter corn ramen in a shoyu broth. It was a smooth and warming bowl, though it didn’t quite deliver a standout moment compared to some of the other ramen shops I’ve tried over the years. Service was friendly and moved at a good pace, keeping the vibe relaxed and comfortable, even if nothing particularly memorable stood out. While I have to admit I've had ramen with a bit more wow factor elsewhere, Ramen Ryoma still offers a cozy atmosphere and satisfying flavors that make it a solid spot for a casual meal. I may not have found my new go-to, but it's a nice option for anyone on the hunt for good comfort food and great fried chicken in town.

I got miso ramen and liked their thick noodle and rich miso broth. I also enjoyed the soup, but black oil was a bit too much for me because I’m used to regular miso ramen. The atmosphere at the restaurant is good! I dig samurai and their murals!

This location is top 3 ramen in the city and I’ve been to a bunch of spots. It’s specifically this location though—the hillcrest location was probably bottom 3 for me. This is the second time I’ve had a 10/10 bowl here, and I got a different one each time. This one was the Miso Mayu Tamago. Great service as well. Go on a weeknight when they’re slow and enjoy. Oh and if Japanese beer is your thing they have Orion, don’t see that one everywhere.

We’re on vacation here and we thought this was better than any ramen place back home. Top quality food and very reasonably priced. Glad we gave it a try.

Super friendly service. I was a little disappointed in my shoyu ramen. The egg was more on the hard boil side, and I only tasted soy sauce. It lacks a secondary flavor. Overall affordable. I'd come back for the sushi 🍣.

You are greeted with a hearty welcome and the spicy umami ramen ( miso broth) is fantastic. Supersize it! You won’t regret it. We haven’t tried their other menu items because this is SO good :)

Last second choice to go here and was kind of disappointed with how the ramen tasted. The broth was not creamy and felt kind of watered down. Not saying it was bad but it just wasn’t the best. The prices were really good and the sides were also decent
