Highlights

"At Ramen Sho Ryu, we source our noodles from a local noodle studio. Our noodles are always freshly made and never frozen giving them a soft yet pleasant chewiness texture. All ramen is served in a rich broth that is cooked for 8+ hrs. Besides ramen, we also serve sizzling platters served in udon or rice."

"We’re big fans of restaurants that involve many levels of customization (blame it on us being Type A). At this casual Japanese spot in Nob Hill, you’re in control of your own ramen bowl destiny, from noodle thickness and spice levels to the type of soup. Broth options range from standards like tonkotsu and miso to decadent versions involving white truffle and wagyu. Though the soup is thinner and less flavorful than we like, these bowls do the trick when we're in the area." - Julia Chen

Saw this place on our way to St Frank for coffee so we gave it a try. We had really mixed reservations about our experience here but let’s get to it! What we like: 1) Interior looks good and clean 2) Ample and cozy seating 3) QR code to order and fast service 4) Broth for Black Garlic Tonkotsu Ramen has flavors (I mean it better lol) 5) More dining variety to the neighborhood What could be better: 1) White truffle Tonkotsu ramen doesn’t have any truffle flavor and overall really lacking in flavor 2) Single slice of truffle seems to be black truffle instead 3) Sous vide chashu has good texture but felt bland (maybe could be seasoned or marinated) 4) Chicken Kaarage felt like something you’d get out of a fast food restaurant 5) The noodles weren’t our preference and definitely feel different from typical ramen noodles (YMMV) I’m usually pretty lenient with my reviews so it’s hard giving this 3 stars. I can definitely see this place improving as it’s still fairly new. Hopefully y’all will have better experience here!

Got pickup takeout from here. I’m really into ramen and was really hoping that this place down the street would become my go-to spot for my ramen cravings, but alas that won’t happen based on my first experience. Got the tonkatsu ramen with thin noodle, sous vide pork and mild spicy. Everything was pretty average to borderline bad, from the soup to the pork and from the toppings to the egg. The noodles are chewy which is the only redeeming part. There are many, many better ramen spots in SF.

Google
I had the tonkotsu ramen with thin noodles and sous vide chashu. The broth was so flavoursome I barely added any spice to it. The noodles were spectacular. Best noodles I’ve had in a long time. The pork was tender but was cut a bit too chunky for my likes. I’ll tried the grilled one next time. Very good ramen and the service was super quick and friendly. Defo will be back very soon!

Google
The atmosphere is nice, decore / presentation is very pretty and service is very good. I had the tonkastu ramen, it was good, but I thought it was a little bland - it might be just me though. The ramen + 20% tip came up to be $21.

Ramen broth is so good. This this best in class Ramen shop around SF! Also, Beef plate is really good! Will repeat for sure!

Google
A delicious new ramen offering with a variety of broths, thick and thin noodle options made daily in-house, sous vide or grilled chashu options, and super fast service. Definitely worth checking out!

Absolutely delicious! The staff was super kind and friendly. The Shrimp Shio Ramen was super good, well presented and tasty.

The taste is OK! However, the air circulation in the restaurant is not good, it's too stuffy!

Yelp
4.5 stars I'm back! Thank you, business owner, for reaching out after my last review update. I was here for another quick lunch and had the Wagyu beef ramen, which cost $33.20 with tips. I recommend throwing ALOT of black pepper on the beef and a moderate amount of the spice sprinkle (that's the only way to eat it, in my opinion). Minor note, my half egg didn't come in its entirety (chuck of it was missing you can see it wasn't bitten off, and it wasn't sitting in my soup). Just check for minor details. I should have ordered extra meat and noodles, but it was too late since I was hungry. I drank all the soup, whatever it was, msg or all-natural.

Yelp
Kinda disappointed spending money here my tuna-salmon poke was not that great. Rice tasted weird and wasn't soft. What I hated the most was the bowl my poke served in. It was a disposable bowl while Ramen bowl and utensils were all regular. My friend ordered ramen with extra chashu. Beef itself in there was nice and tender but chashu was not that great. Bathroom and overall restaurant was clean while service could have been more attentive. Our server interacted with us only when taking the order. Oh and when we walked up to pay. No checking back after serving food at all.

Yelp
Came here with a friend cause I was craving pepper lunch and found that this place was really similar with good reviews!! Location wise it's in a really good spot! The space inside isn't too big, and is definitely really solid for a casual meal. The sushi rolls looked really big and right now there a 15% off deal if you check in on Yelp! The ramen came out pretty fast from what I observed but the sizzling plates took a little longer to come out- the servers are super good about keep you updated on how much longer it will be. Really glad to know there's a sizzling rice plate place in sf will come back again!

Taylor K.

Yelp
YUM! Was not expecting to enjoy this place So much. Doesn't look like much from the outside & it is nothing fancy. You order on your phone and they are super quick. The sizzling rice plate was DANK. Stayed hot the whole meal and I couldn't get enough. My friend loved his ramen

Stefanie A.

Yelp
FOOD: disappointing honestly, especially the ramen. the broth isn't flavorful and seems watered down or like plain chicken stock. the noodles are ok, but it doesn't even look good with barely any toppings. very american ramen place the sizzling unagi plate was ok but it looks like just a plate of rice with edamame and corn, not much variety w their veggies. SERVICE: decent, they were attentive, but i would not pay their prices for the simple meals we got

Doug U.

Yelp
This is my go to sushi, poke, and ramen spot on Polk for a casual and tasty meal. This place has good ramen and sushi that will not disappoint. It's not going to be the high end fancy stuff, but the quality is good for the price. And the servers are nice and friendly and polite. The place is clean and never too noisy or crowded like the other hip places around the area on Polk. It's a little small in terms of dining space so don't go here with more than 4 people. It's perfect for couples or single diners. I eat ramen here on the cloudy days and sushi and poke on warm days.

Yelp
A new ramen place in Russian Hill? Finally! It's so nice to get more food diversity in this neighborhood. I came here myself for a quick meal since I needed my car to get fixed, so I wanted to try this out since I was craving noodles. I was planning on getting ramen in the first place, but since there were sizzling rice platter options, my attention turned to that. Plus, I haven't had a good sizzling rice platter dish since I was in San Jose (if y'all know what I'm talking about). I love fish, and when I saw the salmon one, I decided to go for that. It's cool because they lay out the salmon circled around the rice, and I you just get to see it get cooked in the pan. Honestly, it's really cool, and stuff like that is what makes food so fun. But overall, I thought it was good! The salmon had a lot good flavor from the sauce and conbined that with the rice, makes it a really hearty meal. I added an egg too since... why not? An egg always makes a dish so much better, specially when there's a oozy runny yolk. This place is pretty good for what you'll get if you're in the neighborhood! And to get ramen for everyone that lives around here is actually pretty nice and convenient if you don't feel like travelling farther in the city. I'll take a shot with their ramen next time when I have the chance to come back.

Yelp
What a solid little spot for a bowl of hot soup on a cold day in the city! I was kind of surprised by how much I liked my bowl here, since this specific block of Polk St. is mostly casual beverage shops. I ordered the tonkotsu ramen, and I liked that the broth was flavorful without being too salty. The noodles tasted fresh, and they were cooked perfectly in my broth. The toppings seemed to be fresh as well, and I liked that they included an egg with my ramen. I believe I paid just about $16 for my bowl, which is honestly not a bad price as far as ramen in the city is concerned -- let alone this part of Polk Street. Our waiter was attentive and friendly, and we didn't have to wait long for our food. This is a smaller restaurant, so seating is limited. I don't think we had to wait for table, but I imagine this place could get crowded on a rainy or gray day. So glad there's a great ramen spot in Russian Hill!

Hector L.

Yelp
After the cold weather lately we were really craving some ramen and this place is just a few blocks from where we live. We went down on a Friday night expecting to wait to get seated as they don't have reservations. Luckily this didn't turn out to be the case and we were seated right away. The menu is a little sparse, but there is something for everyone (veggie, pork, beef, shrimp). The broth in the black garlic tonkotsu was meaty and full-bodied, but not overwhelming. The egg was just right - not rubbery or too runny. My wife's wagyu beef was cooked very well. Really glad we decided to try this place in our neighborhood. Will be heading here for the next ramen craving

Roya J.

Yelp
Came here with friends on a cold and wet rainy evening. It was the perfect meal and the flavors of the ramen were really good. We could tell the soup base was slow cooked as it had developed flavors. The noodles were fresh and everything appeared to be of higher quality. They were busy and appeared to suffer from a staffing shortage, but our food came out in a reasonable time. They have limited seating, which was simple yet functional.

Bennett W.

Yelp
This is so good! I love the option of being able to customize my ramen meal. Something you get to choose for your ramen meal? Getting to choose whether you want thick or thin noodles. Plus, choosing spice level? That's a plus! The ramen bowl meal I ordered: - Tonkotsu Ramen with thick noodles Shoyu Broth, Mushroom, Egg, Bean Sprout, Green Onion, Seaweed This is totally one delicious ramen bowl meal, I literally finished everything. Reasons for rating: - Friendly staff - Excellent service - Delicious food It is great seeing a ramen restaurant close to work.

Aretha D.

Yelp
I stumbled across this place @ 8:30 on a Friday night and got seated right away. I ordered the Black Garlic Tonkatsu Ramen with thin cut noodles and medium spice as well as the Shishito Peppers. The chewy noodle to broth ratio was perfect and the special chili sauce was a perfect add-on. I wish the egg was a little jammier, but it still complimented the dish very well. The shishito peppers were...interesting. I wasn't the biggest fan of all the peppers being covered in bonito flakes as I felt they overpowered the entire dish. Some bites would be salty, some bites would be extremely sour, I didn't know what was going on. Overall, this place satisfies my ramen craving but I would probably order another appetizer if I were to come back.

Sarah H.

Yelp
Great ramen and sushi! We were immediately seated and the service was fairly quick even with large groups strolling in. The restaurant itself is not too small with about 10 tables and barstool seating as well for solo diners. However, the wagyu beef in the ramen was a bit tough so not sure if I'd get it again.

Jack R.

Yelp
Regular tonkatsu ramen to go. I found the broth to be watery and the meat to be cheap and awful. Was not liking this at all. The pork was fatty too. The packaging was done well but honestly the noodles are not high quality and it's not filling. Would skip next time.

Zoe C.

Yelp
This is a regular lunch spot for me! The broth is very flavorful with lots of homemade chili oil and spices on the side to add if you need even more! The tofu is nothing crazy, but the egg is cooked to perfection. Staff is nice and this place is great for a quick bite if need be. Never too crowded but also not usually empty.

Audrey F.

Yelp
I've come to Ramen Sho Ryu a handful of times and upon stumbling this time, I noticed they added new item/ to their menu! Including sushi and poke. I was very excited and got straight to ordering the sunset roll. I was very impressed and surprised I like it so much. Everything was well balanced and tasty. The portion was great for 11.99 for sushi in the city, especially on Polk street. The deep fried roll was comprised of cream cheese, salmon, avocado, unagi sauce, and spicy Mayo. I dined alone, and recommend this place to do so! There were 3 other solo diners in there which made the experience worthwhile. Can't wait to come back and try more sushi rolls(:

Jordan L.

Yelp
I'm not a big ramen girl, but this place was GREAT!! I got a sushi roll (sexy lady roll) and my husband got a ramen (tonkotsu ramen) so we could share. Both were AMAZING. Don't sleep on the sexy lady roll. The service was good, the water is room temperature so maybe something to set your expectations. The ambiance was good too and felt authentic. This is a big take out place so the seating is fairly limited - plan ahead! I'm sure we'll be back.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Relaxing, chill ambiance. Food was delicious. The miso ramen was super tasty and not as heavy as tonkatsu ramen. The sushi was pretty alright, but we only tried one dish (dancing unagi). Service was great and fast.

Matt H.

Yelp
Wandering around on a cold January day down Polk I decided to try this spot. I decided on the spicy chicken ramen. All in all I thought this was a decent bowl of ramen. I'm not a ramen aficionado but I have tried some of the hottest places and while this doesn't measure up to those it is good enough. I thought the portion was a little small but the chicken tasted good, the broth was nicely done and not watery (and not too rich, a tricky balance). I think it could have benefitted from a larger portion size and more fresh vegetables. Nothing beats a hot bowl of ramen on a cold day though and if this is your best option nearby it's worth a shot.

Andie H.

Yelp
Excited to see a ramen shop open in our immediate neighborhood, so I had to try it out. Decided to order takeout - miso shrimp ramen with grilled chashu and black garlic tonkatsu ramen with sous vide chashu, as well as an order of karage for the heck of it. Would definitely opt for the grilled chashu and much higher spice level next time. Broth was rich, definitely unique flavor. Portions were relatively small, especially the karage. Giving an extra start because they know how to cook their eggs perfectly! Staff was friendly when we came to pick up our order and it was ready quickly. Overall, glad to have another nearby spot when we want a warm, quick meal.

Yelp
Newest ramen spot in San Francisco! O R D E R E D - Shishito Peppers - Agedashi Tofu - Lobster Ramen - Truffle Ramen V E R D I C T One thing that was super cool - is that they have thin and thick style ramen noodles that you can choose from. I got the thick noodles in the truffle ramen and my mom got the thin noodles for her lobster. Thank goodness i did not get a single spicy shishito pepper in the batch i ordered, i know it can be spicy - as i've had spicy ones before, but it is nice to enjoy it MORE when it isn't burning my throat haha The agedashi tofu was so cute because it was in mini puffy squares and I even added the sautéed bonito flakes onto the tofu and that was WOWWW! I gotta do that again the next time I go. Parking during lunch time wasn't horrible, I found a s pot around the block but I can say during night time, perhaps if you live in the city or close enough to either walk or Uber, than to park on the street.

Angelina F.

Yelp
Are they closed now? It was one of our favorite places to go we loved it!! I was just looking on apple and it says it's permanently closed.

Sunset S.

Yelp
An embarrassment to call it a Ramen restaurant. It was dirty. There was a table that needed to be cleaned, there was food debris on it and a spray bottle, it sat like that the entire time we were there. The windows are splattered with ramen broth, there was a used napkin stuffed in the corner. On our table and others, the shoyu bottle was empty, our other condiment looked like this. When the fried tofu came & my husband bit into it, I asked him if it tasted as bad as it looked. The miso ramen had a broth that was so unremarkable that I think Top Ramen had it beat. The sous vide pork was tough and dry, very hard to believe it was "slow cook for 5hr into a medium rare and extremely tender mixture" I did not finish it, ate about half and gave up. San Francisco has many authentic top notch ramen restaurants, do yourself a favor and eat at one of those.

Jennifer H.

Yelp
New ramen place on Polk! Came here mid-September and they said they opened about a month ago. Parking / location: Parking was difficult but that was expected since I came on a Saturday. Had to make a few laps around the block in order to find street parking. Teaspoon is right next door, so convenient if you want a boba fix after dinner! The restaurant itself is pretty small, I think I counted around 10 tables. These tables are set up to fit only 2 - 4 people each, so going with a smaller group would be ideal. A side note- the seats don't have backrests and each table is decently small, so I did not have anywhere to put my laptop bag I brought. I was able to pull over a chair from another table to leave it on, so it didn't bother me too much, but this might've been an issue if the restaurant was packed and I had to hold my bag on my lap or leave it on the ground. Food: I ordered a miso ramen with thick noodles, grilled chashu pork and "hot" spicy level. I really like how you can customize your bowl, since I do have a strong preference on how I like my ramen! The portions are on the smaller side compared to other places I've been to, but nothing to complain about. My soup overall could have been saltier, but I added some soy sauce to it, which is provided at every table. I got the grilled chashu as opposed to the sous vide pork, expecting the grilled option to be a bit tougher meat (which is what I prefer instead of softer meat that "melts in your mouth"). Surprisingly though, I tried some of my boyfriend's sous vide pork that he ordered with his ramen and I preferred that so much more! It was too chewy for him and he liked my grilled chashu, so we ended up swapping. I'll definitely be getting the sous vide pork if I come here again. Service: Everyone was super nice and attentive. Waiter was nice to talk to as well. They also have sizzling plates which I might try next time. If those are a hit, this place would be really great since it has 2 of my favorite food options!

Claire W.

Yelp
I'm torn. I got the shrimp shio ramen, medium spicy and with sous vide chashu under the waitress' recommendation. The ramen instead, including the delicious clear chicken broth, noodle consistency, shrimps, and spicy level were perfect. If anything, I wanted more broth to noodle ratio (I drank that soup so fast). However, I was super let down by the chashu. I tried the sous vide style because that's not normally what's served with ramen, but what a mistake! The pork was so tough I couldn't even take a bite. So I put the whole slice in my mouth and could barely chew it. Ended up spitting it out and eating around the rest. I would rec that you get the grilled chashu or skip it altogether...I'll try that next time. Excellent service though!

Mark R.

Yelp
Excellent place for a quick lunch. It's a little pricey but the ramen was delicious. I order the tofu ramen with miso base soup. It hit the spot.

Taylor S.

Yelp
So nice to have this spot on this end of Polk Street, fills the void and let's me have delicious ramen and sizzling plates when I'm needing a hearty lunch or dinner. A few different varieties of ramen, but my favorite is their Tonkotsu. Noodles are spot on, and you can choose from thin or thick ones depending on your preference. Have to shout out the sizzling plate though. Rice or udon, I love the angus beef with curry. Served in a splash-protected little cover, you get to mix and cook the dish to your preference. They do this dish to-go, but wow it's a treat to enjoy in person if you can. Seating is really ideal for a solo diner or couple, with a smaller number of tables for 4. Thank you for bringing a new go-to spot to my neighborhood!

Aaa T.

Yelp
Ate here with a friend a week or so ago. Service took forever because they seemed to only have 1 chef and 1 waiter/cashier/busboy. The ramen was not very tasty. Spicy Edamame was okay. Karragge chicken appetizer was good, best of all 3 items. We don't plan to return. Bummer. Thought it would another place to add to my ramen list, but no. :0(

Brett G.

Yelp
SUMMARY: New ramen/noodle spot on Polk. Expect it will be one of the best places to get a fast bowl of ramen in the Russian Hill/Northern Polk area, with dry noodles+protein "sizzling bowls" for those wanting alternatives. Some gimmicky ramen styles (lobster) and the option to try udon or ramen noodles. Seating not suitable for large groups, but excellent for solo and duo dining. Space feels cozy and light, although you're in close quarters with others. Some hiccups in service but they're new so expected. Pricing is about what you expect for ramen in the area, if a buck or so higher. Highlights/Reasons to Go - Seating: A moderate number of 2-person tables and a few bar sears make this a great place for dining as a party of 1 or 2 - Broth: one of the better ones I've had in the city. Rich and complex, with the fat well-rendered. Definitely not an Ippudo-style (deeply fatty) Broth. If anything, I wanted a little more of it. - Noodles: perfectly cooked with a nice bounce. - Lots of food options: including choice between thick (udon) or thin (ramen) noodles. Customize your own ramen, get a meat+noodles platter, quite a few sides. Lowlights/Reasons Not to Go - Egg: the ramen comes with an egg but it is a plain soft-boiled egg. Either add an option to upgrade to a tea/soy egg or replace it with the marinated egg. The smoky salty eggs would be a great feature in the ramen instead of the relatively uninspiring plain egg. - Meat: had essentially one piece of chashu. Usually other placed have 1 large piece or 2-3 medium pieces. It was good though! - Although you can fit 4 people at a couple of tables, seating is limited for groups larger than 2.

Yelp
Good to see a new ramen place in Russian Hill neighborhood. Good veriety of ramen, and their sizzling plates stood out to us.

Taylor K.

Yelp
Believe me when I tell you that the excitement and anticipation in the weeks leading up to the opening of this new ramen spot on Polk hit an all time high for me. And Sho Ryu definitely delivered! I ordered the 2nd highest spice level (I think "very spicy"?) tonkatsu ramen with thin noodles and my boyfriend ordered non-spicy tonkatsu with thick noodles. Both were very, very good. Next time I'll get the highest spice level because I like it HOT hot. The noodles were cooked perfectly, the broth was not too salty and so delicious. You can choose between grilled or sous vide pork. I can't wait to try out the apps next time and the other entrees! This place gets a 13/10 on vibes. They were playing Taylor Swift on shuffle the entire time (without me even asking for it!) Let me tell you, this is exactly how I want to end every weekend - devouring a hot bowl of noods while listening to my jams. The space itself is also really cute and clean. Sho Ryu is absolutely what Polk Street needed and I can't wait to go back!

Kaitlyn L.

Yelp
I ordered the veggie miso ramen, sooo good. The homemade Rayu sauce slaps in the ramen, highly recommend. Should have taken a picture before I inhaled it

Jenny S.

Yelp
1. Ramen noodle itself was good - I got the thick noodles he got the thin noodles 2. Broth was bland; not a lot of flavor - I got the garlic tonkotsu, he got the mild spicy tonkotsu 3. Ingredients were good - egg was cooked well. Wood ear were fine, sprouts were average Overall: glad we tried it because we saw posts and videos about the place. But most likely wouldn't come back because it didn't have the rich broth we were looking for in a Japanese ramen.

Cecilia H.

Yelp
The service and ambiance at Ramen Sho Ryu is very fun and comfortable, the staff is attentive and friendly. The ramen was hot and tasty, if you enjoy ramen give Ramen Sho Ryu a try!

Eliza B.

Yelp
New Ramen place opened up in SF! Absolutely loved the interior perfect for a cold cozy day in the city! I ordered the White Truffle Ramen, Takoyaki, Chicken Karage and my boyfriend ordered the spicy tonkatsu! You can also pick and customize your ramen bowl which I thought was pretty cool! Service was fast and efficient, waiting 10 mins for our food to come out. I would deff recommend the takoyaki as an appetizer, one of the bests here :)

Jules M.

Yelp
I came to visit my Caucasian friend in the area and he told me he loves this new ramen shop. Since I used to live in Japan, he brought me here for some evaluation (and showing off). I spoke with the cute and warm waiter, Nana (she's super nice!). My friend's usual is the Tonkatsu ramen, which is a pretty basic standard choice. I chose the shrimp shio broth because this ramen is actually based on Hokkaido's influence/recipes. Hokkaido is famous for their seafood base broths, which is slightly different from Tokyo base broths; hence this place may offer a more unique twist of flavor. But I thoroughly enjoyed the shrimp shio. One of the best in SF. I'm trying to be on a diet recently, otherwise I would have came back to try the Tonkatsu. Will do so again on my next visit.

L M.

Yelp
This is my go to Japanese spot. Good service and incredible food. sizzling plates-I almost always get the salmon with udon and a fried egg on top The house sauce is sweet and delicious and goes so well with the dish. Ramen-I've never had noodles like this!! The tonkotsu broth is rich, and you get to choose how you want the chashu pork slices to be prepared. Its very customizable and I always get an extra half egg because I love how they prepare it. Sushi-the sexy lady roll is my go to. Lightly spicy and sweet with crispy flakes on the outside. Recently I've I've been into the deep-fried sunset roll as well. The coconut milk is so sweet and creamy it's to die for!! check this place out if you're looking for quick service, filling food and handmade noodles

Kaley N.

Yelp
Stopped in here for a quick ramen dinner last week. Quick service, super nice waitress. The ramen was good as well.

Alison W.

Yelp
Meh Cold noodles. Pork cold Egg cold Basic and service was sub par. Disappointed as we normally go to Japantown. Won't be back.

Jennifer Y.

Yelp
Tonkasu ramen with thick noodles, grilled pork , it comes with half egg . I liked it very much, broth is very flavorful , noodles chewy. I came in the middle of the afternoon, there were only 2-3 tables, good service. Will be back again

Yan L.

Yelp
The taste is OK! However, the air circulation in the restaurant is not good, it's too stuffy! Needs improvement

Yelp
Got pickup takeout from here. I'm really into ramen and was really hoping that this place down the street would become my go-to spot for my ramen cravings, but alas that won't happen based on my first experience. Got the tonkatsu ramen with thin noodle, sous vide pork and mild spicy. Everything was pretty average to borderline bad, from the soup to the pork and from the toppings to the egg. The noodles are chewy which is the only redeeming part. There are many, many better ramen spots in SF.

Yelp
The store is small and cozy. Walked in on a Friday and it was not too busy. The ramen I got was pretty mediocre I probably won't come back again. The sizzling plates my friends got seemed better, but there's not really any vegetables there just rice and meat.

Elise F.

Yelp
This place is fire! I'm honored to be one of the first diners here. I got the sizzling plate with udon and wagyu to go. It tastes amazing! My boyfriend got pork ramen, and he really enjoyed it - he'd pretty picky about ramen. Said "the noodles were insanely good, you can tell they are handmade" Once they work out some kinks as they are so new I can tell this place is gonna be really popular.

Ryan D.

Yelp
New ramen spot in the neighborhood so we ordered a few different things to try out at work today. We had the tonkatsu ramen with thick noodles, "hot" spiciness level (wasn't very spicy IMO, so I should have ordered the "extreme" level), and grilled chashu. We also ordered the sizzling plate Angus beef udon and rice place, along with the chicken karaage and fried dumpling appetizers. Everyone said that the flavors were great, but the portions of the entrees were a little on the small side for the price, otherwise, it would have been five stars.

Humera S.

Yelp
Nice staff, clean, good ambiance, but the ramen was ehhh, the noodles were undercooked and the broth wasn't flavorful at all. We got the vegetable miso ramen and it was really underwhelming, especially for the price point. Can't speak to the dishes that have meat in it, but wouldn't recommend this place to vegetarians or pescatarians.

Mike Z.

Yelp
Fantastic food. Friendly staff. Highly recommend. We had the wagyu beef rice, comes on a hot sizzling pot that you get to mix while it continues to cook. Then we had the garlic tonkotsu Ramen also very good. 10% off during their soft opening, what a great addition to Polk Street.

Yelp
5 stars for service 4 stars for opening a much needed restaurant on Polk St 4 stars for the karaage 4 stars for the broth 3 stars for the thick noodle texture 2 stars for ramen accoutrements 2 stars for restaurant decor/vibes 1 star for the spicy edamame and chasu pork Total = 3.1 stars It's great to have new variety on Polk St. and to see a new business so busy on a Friday night. It was quick and easy walking in to order pickup and then wait while we ran our errands nearby. The service was excellent, we were immediately greeted and had friendly, seamless interactions with staff. Overall, it's decent ramen, but it has nothing on Marufuku which still reigns as best ramen in SF. The pros: black garlic broth was pretty awesome and the thicker noodle option came out perfectly al dente (even if personal preference is for a thinner noodle). The karaage was also very well executed for take away - it was still crispy when we got home and the dipping sauce was yummy flavorful! The main issues: the poor amount of accoutrements for the ramen - only half a soft boiled egg...really?! It's an inexpensive egg!! Double mushroom (hard pass), no bamboo shoots, corn costs extra (corn is so cheap, it's not something that should be charged). The grilled chasu seemed the safer bet, given the bad reviews for the sous vide so far. Even still, the meat was tough in a lot of sections and it had a weird flavor. The best I can compare it to is...moth balls. I swear, the bottom flavor note after swallowing is rather unpleasant sour taste. And finally...the spicy edamame covered in copious amounts of sriracha and garlic was intense. Also unpleasant to have your fingers covered in chili goo. We thought it was going to be dry chili seasoning and regretted ordering instantly. Trust me, get the plain unless you lovveeee sriracha. The decor also doesn't give you confidence that the place is very clean. They picked a textured grey-on-white paint effect on the walls that makes the walls look filthy. Same thing with the floors, textured so you look down and it doesn't inspire clean vibes. Also the glass windows were streaked. Note that this doesn't mean they don't clean the place, I think they picked the wrong blend of colors and textures without realizing it. Also, beware that it's best to order pickup ahead of time. The place is packed with tables and there is nowhere to stand and wait or order, there's a table awkwardly right in front of the register. We probably won't be back, only because it's too easy to order our favorite ramen spot and never leave our house! But it's still a great option in the neighborhood if you want a no-frills spot for dinner and an excuse to get out of the house!

Yelp
I was so excited when they opened this neighborhood Ramen place on Polk. I've been there twice since it opened and really wanted to love it, but their broth is lacking a little something. It is good, but I can't say it's great. I have always ordered mild broth because I don't like spicy, but mild doesn't have to be tasteless. I've had much better flavored Ramen or udon soups, and especially at this price point , I probably wouldn't order it again. However, the noodles were very fresh tasting and good. The eggs were cooked to perfection. We also ordered the Unagi rice which was not what I expected, but it was still very good and flavorful! I was expecting it to be Unagi-don style, but it was more like Unagi fried rice. I will definitely come back to try their sizzling noodle plates. I would give this a strong 3 1/2 stars if I were able to, and maybe after my next visit, I can hopefully increase it to four stars.
