It was actually our ITP yelp extraordinaire, Christina V, who put me on to Ramen station right in the heart of the pandemic, and she was right on the money!
The first time I went, I was just from work in early April, wearing my scrubs. After calling in an order, staff were awesome enough to give me a 50% off deal for being a healthcare worker. Did they have to do it? Nope. Was it awesome and a class act? Definitely! And just an fyi, they were just being kind. There are no 50% off deals!
On the first visit I ordered:
Tonkotsu ramen ($11.50)
I came back at few weeks later and ordered:
Fried Brussel sprouts ($6)
Pork belly steamed bun ($4.50)
Karaage rice bowl ($11)
Starting with the food, the tonkotsu ramen was creamy, and came with a nice sized piece of pork belly, black garlic, sesame, bamboo shoots and an egg with creamy yolk! I liked the flavor of this ramen, although I thought it was a bit more salty than other ramen dishes I've tried. Noodles, pork and all ingredients were in one container, while the broth was in another. The size of the ramen was a bit small, but it was a to go dish and was still pretty filling.
During my second visit my experience was a great one. First off the fried Brussel sprouts were delicious! These are mixed in a sweet chili oil and are a nice serving size. The sprouts were less crispy and definitely soft, but I imagine that's all bc of the commute home and not dining in. Get the sprouts!!
The pork belly bun was soooo soft and popping with flavor. That pecan sugar was noticeable on the pork belly. It's a snack that didn't even make it out of the car or even through a couple of red lights!
The karaage rice bowl was the truth. Fried chicken was STILL crispy after the commute (how they do that?!?). The actual rice bowl itself is topped with black and regular sesame, as well as chopped scallions. Man this dish is filling, and if you think that wasn't enough, all rice bowls come with either a chicken bone or Shoyu broth, yes!
Located off of Memorial drive in Atlanta, right across from the historic Oakland cemetery, you can park in the Larkin free lot, which houses Ramen station and a few other shops. Parking isn't infinite, but on both visits I had no problem finding a spot. There is indoor and outdoor seating, and again, staff and customer service are great!
I've visited Ramen Station a couple of times now but definitely am not done with my visits. If you're in the area and want some good dishes from the group that has produced Suzy Siu's Baos, Noona and salaryman, pay these guys a visit!
