Japanese Noodle Star Ramen Tatsunoya Quietly Opens in Silver Lake - Eater LA

"Ramen Tatsunoya has opened in Silver Lake this week. The casual Japanese option lands on Sunset Boulevard with limited hours for now, so expect some lunch (noon to 2 p.m. or so) and dinner service (6 p.m. to 8 p.m. or thereabouts) for now as the team continues to ramp up. A more fully realized opening is slated for March 8, and will coincide with a full menu reveal that includes not only a variety of ramen but appetizers like California rolls, chashu-stuffed peppers, and takoyaki." - Farley Elliott

Great place. Excellent parking. The broth is especially good here and the sprouts and green onions are fresh and crisp. The dried seaweed is fragrant and the chasu is well seasoned.

Google
Still amazing. We've been going to the Pasadena location for years, and only visited this one occasionally but it's always been great, and showed they'll continue to be great when we went today. The broth is always flavorful and rich, the noodles and chashu are cooked perfectly, and the flavor is just right. There's a reason they gave limited changes allowed to their menu, it's perfectly balanced. The staff is friendly and inviting, happy to explain the options and whatnot. The flavored egg, while a little expensive, is a perfect addition to any of their ramen options and totally worth it.

Google
Good ramen, edamame, and cheese sticks! I loved the salty, garlicky flavor of the edamame. We got a tuna sushi roll and it was average. This location does not have the special Tatsunoya roll. Plenty of parking and great service.

Google
Ramen was pretty good and flavorful. The service was also good. I would recommend paying more and getting the extra meat cuz they only put 2 pieces in the regular one. The waitress kept checking up on us and made sure we enjoyed our food. They play nice music too so there’s good vibes. Will return next time!

Google
Perfect location in Silverlake for a ramen spot. They have easy parking in the back and there was no issue getting a table. We both got ramen bowls and a starter of gyoza which was all delicious. Sitting in the front patio around sunset with good food was the perfect end to my day. I'm giving four stars because our service was a little non existent. Our waiter never came back after dropping off the food to give us drink refills. After our food the last interaction with him was when we received the check. Other than that, the spot is awesome and i'll be back for more ramen.

Google
I called in advance around 9:20 to see if we were allowed to dine since they closed at 10 PM. They hesitated a bit, but we said we were 1 min from another ramen place at the corner. Arrived at a park in the front; they also have spacious parking in the back. Staff are friendly, and the restaurant looks decent and has in & outdoor seating! I ordered Spicy Miso Extra Chasu, $20.3 comes with thick noodles and added a $2 egg, and my Japanese friend ordered a Koku Extra Chasu, $19.8, with thin noodles and added a $2 egg. The flavored eggs were ok. The price is higher than elsewhere in the Silverlake area, around $2-3 but offers more meats; however, the broth did not impress us when we tasted it. Also, a lot of thick fat was swimming around in the broth, and the meat was initially fat without being grilled/fried/ marinated, which made the whole feeling become fatty and feel like the fat touched my tongue every time I consumed the broth. We enjoyed the service, the views, and the weather, but to have the itch of waiting to return to dine from Beverly Hills might be a low chance.

Google
Absolutely delicious. They have a location in Pasadena which I go to a lot. I'm glad they opened this location closer to ktown. I prefer my ramen with thin noodles. The broth is very rich and savory here. And is very consistent each time I come. Honestly think that tatsunoya has the BEST ramen in LA. Service is excellent. Plenty of parking in the back.

Google
Best vegan Ramen I've ever had! My better half took me for my 40th birthday dinner. I was floored! Excellent service.

Yelp
Perfect for a cold day! The Spicy Ramen Is delicious, and flavor is always consistent. I like to order the soup without the pork back fat and switch out the thick noodles for thin noodles. The wings are delicious, juicy and so flavorful. We also got an order of the house made gyoza which was crispy and so good. This place does not disappoint!

Yelp
I've been coming to this ramen shop for over a year now. I just moved to another area of town and have been DREAMING about their vegan ramen bc their soy broth is unbeatable! Vegan broth is usually clear and without flavor imo. It pains my heart to not give the full 5 stars but I don't love the new recipe of veggies -- I eat meat sometimes but when I order veggie stuff it's cause I want veggies! They used to have a whole serving of a variety of veggies and the new recipe has 3 cloud ear mushrooms, two pieces of cauliflower tempura, sprinkled with a handful of green onions. Which, the flavor was good but the tempura gets soggy in the broth. The menu change could be seasonal and props for seasonal veggies, it's just not what I was looking forward to. However, I love that soy broth and will still dream of it. It's perfect.

Yelp
This place has the best. edamame. ever. If you like spicy things, then you'll love their edamame and I know that's a random thing to focus on in a review, but it was so good. I don't know what they did but they did it. Anyways, their Ramen is also lovely, don't get me wrong. But this is the cutest lil spot ever. They offer both outside and inside seating, but it was too cold to utilize their outdoor seating (plus the neighborhood can get a bit sketchy after sunset). They were an hour or so away from closing but the service was still wonderful when we arrived. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Wow what a great little ramen shop. I've been eyeing it for awhile and today, in the mood for comfort food, swung by just as they opened at noon. It feels genuinely Japanese in there, with a cozy, slightly quirky vibe (I think light jazz was playing?) It's a small spot with a couple of booths and two-tops. I sat myself at the bar. Love that the menu is straightforward/simple - ramen choices focused on type of broth. I opted for 'light' which appeared to be their standard, Jun Tonkotsu. So. delicious. You know it's a damn good bowl of ramen when you find yourself eating EVERYTHING- all the toppings, the noodles, the broth. So much flavor and comfort in one bowl. Loved the chashu taste/texture and my egg add-on was perfectly cooked and a wonderful addition. I left full but not uncomfortably so. The staff also seemed quite sweet and courteous as you would expect from a solid, real ramen spot. No notes.

Yelp
Such a great spot ! They are quick and fast and the best have parking. Recommend the spicy ramen such amazing taste !

Yelp
Ramen Tataunoya has definitely become my favorite ramen spot in LA. From the ambience, to the friendly and attentive staff, to the delicious gyozas, and ramen, everything was delightful here. We stopped by Ramen Tataunoya on a Thursday night around 7:30 pm. It was a cold and rainy night in LA, which perfectly complemented the warm and juicy gyozas, and the ramens we ordered. The gyozas were lightly fried, and not greasy, and the filling was really flavorful and delicious. The portion size was also really good for two people to share. For the ramen, there were plenty of options to choose from, as well as options to tailor your ramen according to your taste and preference, which was great. I got the chicken extra chashu ramen with the rich broth, and thick noodles. It was just perfect for what I was craving that night, and really satisfied my craving. In my opinion this place is an underrated gem, and I can't wait to come back here again! Ps- They have a parking lot in the back, which is a plus!

Yelp
An awesome lunch experience and loving the atmosphere. Our server Ryan was great and very attentive and helpful! Great broth and love the extra chasu.
google avatar

Hannah E.

Yelp
Tatsunoya is decent. The best part of the ramen is the noodles - fantastic, thin yet with a great bite. The rich ramen is aptly named, but a little too salty for my tastes (and my tastes are already quite salty). The pork being 80% fat adds to the richness. This is a pro for me but I can understand it might not be for everyone. Adding an egg costs extra, which is unusual for ramen. Not sure why they put cheese in their curry - it just doesn't fit, flavorwise. They also have a strange seating system - on a cold, rainy weeknight they would not seat the two of us inside at a four top, instead putting us on the balcony in the wind. Their heaters helped, but it was just kind of unnecessary, especially since the fourtops remained unoccupied throughout our entire meal.

Yelp
had the pleasure of dining in and eating their ramen in the afternoon. it was about 2 pm and the restaurant was completely empty. the inside is very clean and tidy and the parking situation is just street parking. we got to sit wherever we wanted and we ordered the spicy miso and the jun tonkatsu ramen. it came out fresh in under ten minutes and was boiling hot. on the side of the table there was spicy sauce available which i love because i get to adjust the amount of spice i wanted. the server was very kind and constantly kept our drinks full which was awesome. i was interested in eating their home made gyoza but i'll save that for another day. it was a great time to have lunch and i do very much recommend this restaurant. there's a good amount of seating in the inside and i think they're able to serve you outside as well if you ask. you're able to add a ton of toppings to your liking!
google avatar

Rachel T.

Yelp
Great ramen in silver lake! So nice to warm up here these days. If you come around 6-6:30 you avoid the rush. There's limited indoor seating (3 booths ish and the bar) and then a cozy outdoor patio that's warmed. When we left both were packed. Service was quick and smooth. If you're lucky you might be able to find street parking, side streets are your best bet.
google avatar

Yelp
honestly i don't like Ramen but we stumbled on this place and i had some of mine and saved the rest for the 2:30 am hunger attack. service was fast and on target. I realize it's a Ramen place but would love a little variety in the menu
google avatar

Yelp
Food is great, the service was excellent. I liked the little dumplings appetizer the best tho! My friend took her little dog, so we sat outside and the waitress even gave her water. Very clean.. but inside is definitely cuter than outside !

Robert N.

Yelp
Some of the best ramen I've had in LA. Parking was super easy and staff was very attentive
google avatar

Ariel S.

Yelp
My first time here. The ramen was absolutely delicious! The garlic oil is what takes this over the top! The veggies still had their texture. The usage of soy milk was supreme. The tofu was extra; doesn't come with the ramen originally. It is a very cozy space and I preferred to sit outside under the heating.
google avatar

Torie S.

Yelp
In an area with absolutely no parking comes an oasis with Ramen Tatsunoya. I ask you: what place in the vicinity has easy parking like this? It's *chef's kiss* so easy to park to eat here. I got the spicy miso and as our server said, it's the perfect amount of spicy! I really like spicy food and this isn't sweaty hot spicy--it just adds a nice lil kick for the very savory broth. The broth was super flavorful and the noodles were nice and springy! Yum!
google avatar

Olivia M.

Yelp
Hands down some of the best ramen I've ever had! The broth is perfection and the serving size is generous. Was very impressed by the sleek modern interior. I dropped by on a weekday and there was no wait! Service is prompt and friendly. Also they have shaved ice which is absolutely fantastic.

Yelp
10/10 If your thinking of coming plz do you will not be disappointed(: So so so so fkn good. The spicy ramen tasted like a warm hug and wasn't too spicy and was savory and delicious. We flew in from Austin and we're looking for a good ramen spot and this was top tier we will definitely be back(:

Austin Y.

Yelp
I really liked this place for the Tsukemen ramen and curry ramen, but they got rid of both! Please bring it back :(.

Yelp
Everything was excellent, great vibe and amazing ramen. Also had the gyoza and spicy edamame.

Yelp
Sat immediately on a Saturday night. Heaters on patio. Hit the spot!! So yummy. Quick service. Definitely recommend
google avatar

Shelly G.

Yelp
It's great that they have their own parking lot in the back. The broth is pretty good and the service was pretty fast also. The only complaint is they have a small indoor space. Outdoor seating can get pretty cold in January.
google avatar

Cassie N.

Yelp
Great place to dine in silverlake that isn't as crowded as other ramen places but still has quality food! I love that they also have a private parking lot as parking can be so crazy off sunset. If you order extra noodles they also give you a complimentary topping. Including Chashu! Great spot.
google avatar

Justin T.

Yelp
It's been cold lately so I decided I wanted something warm. Came to this Ramen place. They have a parking lot behind the restaurant, but otherwise it's street parking. It's on the smaller size so parties of 2 to 4 at most. They have happy hour from 12pm to 5pm. They have alcoholic drinks as well. Overall the ramen is pretty good. The broth is rich and the noodles are thin ad al dente. The chashu is fatty and delicious. Pricing seems fair for silverlake. I also got the takoyaki which was good as well. They are also having a promotion now if you write a review They will give you ten dollars gift card. So here we are.
google avatar

Linda W.

Yelp
3.5 stars! I think in recent years I've had some arguably amazing ramen experiences, hence my expectations/standards have increased as well... so it's not so much that Ramen Tatsunoya is not good, but more like it's not GREAT. I ordered the Jun Tonkotsu and subbed the thin noodles with thick noodles. The broth was creamy and not too greasy - so it was good but didn't blow me away. The noodles were chewy enough but also didn't have the wow factor. The chashu was the same - nice thick slices but flavor wise was just OK. Essentially, the entire bowl is a good bowl of ramen. But not great, not amazing. Recently I went to Afuri Ramen in the arts district in DTLA. If you're looking for that extra wow factor, I would recommend checking out Afuri Ramen.

Yelp
Whether you're having a good or bad day, you can't go wrong with ramen. After hanging out in the Echo Park Lake area, the boyfriend and I were getting hungry and contemplating on what to get for dinner. On this particular day, I had come down with a cold and was looking for something hot and soupy to soothe my throat. Thanks to Yelp, we came across Ramen Tatsunoya which is very close in the area. We were seated pretty immediately even though it was a Saturday evening. After placing our orders, we got a takoyaki appetizer, an original miso ramen and spicy miso ramen. Service was good, and I felt so much better after drinking the piping hot broth.
google avatar

DJ L.

Yelp
Excellent broth with the tonkatsu ramen. Good service. Free parking in the back. Spacious and lowkey ambiance, clean. I'd definitely come back
google avatar

Phillip T.

Yelp
Spicy edamame was great, wasn't too spicy and it was perfect seasoned. Takoyaki was really nice and creamy, love it #rushofflavor. Pork Gyozas were SOOO good, really crispy, really juicy. Appetizers were perf. The Jun ramen wasn't my favorite, but it wasnt bad at all. My party also got both the spicy tuna and california rolls which were solid choices, but there was a bit more rice on the roll than I anticipated. I didn't get his name but our server was so great, and all the food came out pretty quick!! Menu was a bit small BUT food was amazing 8/10, & service 10/10!!

Oolik P.

Yelp
This is the place that serves four main types of ramen: Vegan, spicy, light, Rich. We ordered the light and vegan. They were both great. Small place staff and service is great as well.
google avatar

Stephanie U.

Yelp
This place has dependably delicious ramen. I can't think of any other way to describe it. Whichever ramen you choose, you'll be in for a treat. I often order the curry tonkotsu ramen, and it is always delicious. (It has ground pork chashu, red bell pepper, cheese - all wonderful things!) The last time I visited, though, I chose the spicy miso ramen, substituting tofu for the pork chashu and adding cheese and a flavored egg. (There are various additions to choose from, but these are my favorites). The cloud ear mushroom was tender and held extra broth, and the bean sprouts added a nice bit of texture. Mmm. Plus, the staff are SO nice, prices are reasonable, AND there's a private parking lot. It's such a lovely place to get a solid bowl of ramen.
google avatar

Candace Angelica S.

Yelp
Oh the holy grail of ramen. We stumbled upon this place because our go-to was just too crowded. Ended up liking this place so much better. The soup had bits of pork fat in it, and that reallyyyy elevated the flavor. Like holy cow. We were seated immediately too which was nice. The servers are attentive and friendly and service was fast! The rolls weren't really my cup of tea but hey, it's a ramen restaurant not a sushi one. The only knock I have is parking. On a good day there's parking up front, especially if you come around 3-4pm.
google avatar

Michelle Y.

Yelp
I got here on a rainy day at around 6 ish and there was a line, but it went by pretty fast. There were many seatings with high and low seats. Waited like 20-30 min. I got the koku tonkatsu ramen which was not amazing but satisfying for a rainy day. The broth doesn't taste rich enough. The chasu i got was too fatty. The noodles were okay. I put the chili paste they had on the side and it tasted a lot better imo. The tatsunoya roll was good, had a nice beefy taste and the rice was good and soft, not rlly sure what makes it pink. Overall, i would recommend this place if you are in the area, but its not the best ramen. Also, it got hot in there, not sure if its cause the heater was on or if there's just a lot of people.
google avatar

Davis K.

Yelp
Solid ramen spot! My friend and I came here for dinner at around 6:30pm. Surprisingly enough, there was only one other party eating when we got there. We were quickly seated. I ordered the Koku Tonkotsu ramen (rich broth) and she ordered the Jun Tonkotsu ramen (light broth). The Koku was full of flavor, with a tiny bit of spiciness from a little dab of chili paste they put on top. The noodles were a great texture and did a good job of "scooping" up the soup, if that makes sense at all. I tried the Jun broth, and for being a light broth, it also had a nice, deep flavor. Oh yeah, we got the gyoza too, and while they did taste fresh, one particular thing was that they tasted like there were literal raw, whole cloves of garlic in them, which I'm totally fine with to be honest, but it might not be for everyone. As we were getting our check, we looked around and the whole place was packed and there was even a small wait outside for tables. Would come back!

Jennifer G.

Yelp
This is easily the best ramen in LA! I've frequented both the Pasadena and silver lake locations and have never been disappointed. The spicy miso is my absolute favorite and I love the option to customize my own spice level by getting the spice on the side. The chashu is the best in town and I always order extra.
google avatar

Rachel R.

Yelp
Service and food is amazing! I always go here with my boyfriend and we have an amazing experience every time. The food never misses and we leave feeling extremely satisfied! This is our favorite ramen spot and we have tried many in this area will definitely come back soon!
google avatar

Veronica V.

Yelp
Incredible ramen! We tried the Koku Ramen. So rich, creamy, savory. Love the quick and delightful customer service. We love our server Bailey! She was so attentive, friendly, helpful! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! We are definitely coming back for more!! :)
google avatar

Chris A.

Yelp
My sister and I checked out Tatsunoya in Silverlake the other night, which was a perfect decision considering it was raining out! We were seated as soon as we walked in, and our server was quick to get our drinks. I decided to go with the Spicy Ramen with a side of Takoyaki to round out the meal. The ramen came out perfectly! The broth was a wonderfully rich and creamy, balanced well with the earthiness of the green onions and mushrooms. The chashu was a tender, with the noodles capturing all the flavors for the perfect bite. The takoyaki was piping hot, with the core being fluffy and the octopus slightly chewy, but delicious. Overall, our experience was great, and we will definitely coming back for more! Highly recommend for other ramen lovers! Love love love!!
google avatar

Lianna N.

Yelp
We ate around 4 pm where there wasn't a wait. The location had a wonderful patio welcoming for dogs with water dishes. There was also a heat lamp that was a nice touch. The house-made vegan gyoza was a highlight for me since most have pork. The texture was phenomenal that was both chewy and crispy on the outside. The filling had lots of garlic and ginger that was my favorite gyoza I've ever had.

tannaz s.

Yelp
I ordered takeout on Christmas night, and first off, props/gratitude for them being open. I got there and the place was packed - bustling, groups waiting for tables, as well as to pickup takeout. In the few minutes I was there, I saw the waitstaff deal with hungry, waiting people, and with parties they'd just seated, and they couldn't have been more patient, courteous, and smiley. It's appreciated always, but especially when these folks have to work on Christmas. On top of that, of course, my ramen was delicious. I even went a little rogue and got tofu chashu, and it didn't disappoint!
google avatar

Kin B.

Yelp
I've been to both the Pasadena and Silver Lake locations, and I love coming to both! Especially when the cold weather hits LA. The customer service is great and are always attentive to your needs. Oftentimes, I have trouble finishing bowls of ramen at other restaurants cause they're just way too big but Ramen Tatsunoya gives the perfect amount. I always get the Jun Tonkotsu whenever I want a light broth but you can never go wrong with the Koku Tonkotsu if you want a richer broth. Parking is also at the back of the restaurant so that's definitely a plus! I definitely frequent the Silver Lake area, so I will definitely be back here.
google avatar

Kelly B.

Yelp
I've been here a few times by now. My favourite is the spicy miso tonkatsu or rich tonkatsu. I personally prefer thick noodles so this hit the spot! Another tip is getting gyozas too! Street parking is available!
google avatar

Dan M.

Yelp
Unspeakably delicious ramen. From Japan. Traditional and yummy. Service is extraordinary. Some of my favorite dishes are the gyozo with pork and the spicy ramen "extra shashu." Definitely worth a trip. Our favorite lunch spot in Silverlake.
google avatar

Jae L.

Yelp
Decent portion and friendly staff! Most ramen comes with some green onions, couple slices of cha shu and shredded mushrooms. They have add on options for $1-3! I really enjoyed the al dante noodles and freshness of takoyaki! Good neighborhood ramen place :) they have parking in the back and patio is nicely heated
google avatar

Japmeet S.

Yelp
Big portions with good ramen! I got the chicken instead of pork and added an egg and it was really good! We also tried their gyozas which were my favorite dish of the night! They were perfectly crispy on the outside which a really tasty pork filling on the inside! The spicy tuna roll was good as well! Cute outdoor seating!
google avatar

Allie L.

Yelp
The cold weather had us craving something warm and soupy and the ramen here definitely hit the spot. Honestly, it tasted a bit too salty for my taste but the soup was flavorful. The meat, tender. Noodz, perfectly chewy. Takoyaki were hot and tasty so be careful not to burn your mouth! Service was on point. Parking sucks but that's expected in this area. We were disappointed to not see the dipping noodles on the menu that is offered at the Pasadena location. But we were still satisfied with our meal and to have beaten the crowd we saw as we left. You know it's good when there's a wait!
google avatar

Kelley L.

Yelp
Ramen Tatsunoya in Pasadena is my absolute favourite ramen in the country, and I did not have the same expectations for the Silverlake location. I stopped by after spending the morning in the area. First, parking on Sunset can be super difficult; thankfully, they have a parking lot in the back! They also have an outdoor patio area that can seat 16 people, which is perfect for people who have dogs. I did not go inside the restaurant, so I cannot speak about the interior. The outside area was perfect as it is shaded and spacious for distanced dining. The server was really good and attentive. He even brought out water for our dog without our asking. The food came out within good time as well, and the server did not mind checking in on us and fulfilling our additional orders throughout our meal. I had the Jun tonkotsu ramen, which is a light tonkotsu broth. I prefer this one over the Koku ramen because I love thin noodles and enjoy a lighter broth. I was also able to get spice on the side, which gave my soup a kick. The takoyaki was also good. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with the experience and their ability to keep up with the standards of the Pasadena location. Though it is not exactly like the Pasadena location, this is a great start for plans to expand on their part. I am glad they are taking their time to expand and ensuring their food is comparable between locations unlike another famous ramen joint in the area that has franchised the crap out of themselves.
google avatar

Keani L.

Yelp
Food-- phenomenal! Best ramen I've had in Southern California, for sure. I love ramen and have tried 5 spots between Echo Park and Silverlake and this is easily the best! I ordered the rich koku tonkatsu. some ramens are good but just to fill your hunger, others are crafted like art-- as soon as i smelled it, i knew this bowl was art. Achieving a balanced, rich, yet not overpowering broth is a highly impressive feat that was easily boosted by the techniques of the chef, as evident in this ramen. To be sure, the broth and the chashu lean on the rich and tender side, so, if this is not your favorite flavor profile, order the light jun bowl. However, I am positive that any boy you get will be delightful. The noodles and quality are nearly unmatched outside of Japan. Regarding service and ambience, this was a positive experience, and I would recommend this place to anyone in search of a comfort meal. Would be great for a date too! Classy yet casual, this spot delivers a fantastic experience!

Yelp
Dropped by without any expectations and I was blown away! The servers were wonderful and super attentive and the chefs were very welcoming! I'm glad that I found a really good ramen spot and will definitely be coming back with friends. The ramen broth was super rich without being too heavy and the noodles had the perfect bite.

Yelp
Serving very fast with great ramen. My chose was Spicy ramen and I was more then satisfied! Very tasty, so it made me more happy. Also, stuff is very polite and nice!
