The Best Valentine’s Day Restaurants in NYC | Eater NY

"If elegance is a passion, this haute European-style outpost that’s a favorite of Monaco’s royal family is ideal. Toast with red crystal glasses against a background of hand-cut Italian marble accented walls and floors. The $150 prix-fixe includes foie gras, sea scallops carpaccio, and filet of beef, followed by pistachio cake, and chocolate with raspberries. Those looking to make the occasion extra special can indulge in sturgeon caviar and oysters." - Beth Landman

Rampoldi - Review - Upper West Side - New York - The Infatuation

"If you’d like a martini shaken, not stirred—at your table, by a server in a white monogrammed jacket—check out Rampoldi, just across from Lincoln Center. Complete with a dedicated tablecloth-ironer, this Monte Carlo import has shiny banquettes, reflective surfaces, and lurid red lighting that softens the wrinkles of philharmonic attendees who’ve wandered in. Yes, Rampoldi is campy, with graffitied Mona Lisas, a $59 lobster thermidor, and a goofy photo of the chef on the flask of olive oil that comes with your free bread. But the drinks are stiff, the European food is mostly better than expected for a menu so vast, and the service—which may involve escargot tongs and tableside tartare—makes the whole experience feel like being trapped at a White Lotus property for a few thrillingly surreal hours." - Sonal Shah

Rampoldi has been open for two years. I know it’s summer in NYC but not sure why this place is empty!! What a find. Menu has something for everyone and service is above and beyond. Everyone had a steak which was perfectly cooked with potatoes. I had a Caesar salad and the rigatoni vodka. Perfect touch of cream and salad amazingly fresh and crisp. Ambiance you can tell from the pics it’s incredibly well done in great taste. We will be back! Excellent evening with friends!

Had an amazing experience here tonight. The restaurant is beautiful and the food was great. We dined within the bar area and had a fantastic time. Rampoldi is definitely one of the fancier restaurants on the Upper West Side / Lincoln Square area. If you are looking for a special meal in that location, this is one of the top places to look at.

Amazing atmosphere! Our server Jose was the best! We came in not knowing what to eat and he recommended a 3 course meal to share between our party of 2, very filling and tasteful. Would come back again!

Rampoldi is a hidden gem near Lincoln Center that a lot of people don’t know about. We sat at the bar and enjoyed the bartender’s company, the overall atmosphere, and innovative cocktails. The space is visually stunning inside and seems perfect for birthdays and anniversaries.

I’ve been wanting to go to Rampoldi for quite some time now and I decided it was the perfect place to have dinner for my 30th birthday. It was the cherry on top to my absolute perfect solo day. Milena and Cristian were fantastic and checked in with me multiple times throughout dinner. When I was seated at my table to the hostess handed me the history book about the beginnings of Rampoldi and I can’t decided what was better: the food or learning about the history. Every was so delicious and I felt so welcomed. The absolute great and perfect ending for my birthday. Thank you for having me!

We went here to celebrate our anniversary (not a big milestone), and I was truly impressed by the decor. The restaurant has a beautiful and elegant interior with red and pink shades. We had : Salmon tartare – flavorful and beautifully presented. Crispy calamari with zucchini – tasty and cooked just right. Scallops – tender and generous portion (we got eight!). Filet de bœuf with mashed potatoes and creamy sauce – perfectly cooked. Chocolate cake with ice cream – absolutely delicious! The service started off friendly and attentive. However, as the evening progressed, our server became less attentive, focusing more on other tables despite the restaurant not being particularly busy. Our wine bottle was placed on a stand near our table, so we ended up pouring our own glasses. This wasn’t a major issue for us and perhaps even allowed us to enjoy our meal at a more relaxed pace. Overall, it was a good dining experience with tasty food and a lovely atmosphere.

Google
We have a wonderful dinner at Rampoldi. The duck confit is amazing. Jose treated us with very considerate service, introduced us a great selection of dessert, and helped us take great photos. The decorations inside the restaurant are also beautiful. Great place to enjoy our dinner before heading to Lincoln center for watching performances.

Google
Rampoldi delivers an absolutely exquisite dining experience. From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was stunning—elegant yet warm, with perfect lighting and refined décor that sets the tone for a luxurious meal. We started with their signature Pizza Margherita, which was light, perfectly blistered, and bursting with flavor. The Magret de Canard (duck breast) was cooked to perfection—succulent with a deep, rich sauce that balanced sweetness and depth beautifully. The Filet de Boeuf Rossini, served over a velvety sauce with foie gras, was pure decadence—tender, bold, and unforgettable. To finish, we had their Tiramisu Rampoldi, which not only looked stunning but tasted heavenly—light, creamy, and well balanced with just the right touch of espresso and cocoa. Jose, our server, was an absolute gem. His attention to detail and genuine hospitality made our night feel extra special. The entire front-of-house staff was on point—professional, welcoming, and seamless. Rampoldi is a true gem in NYC. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a top-tier dining experience with unforgettable food and outstanding service.

Yelp
The atmosphere is very relaxing and classy. the food and service are phenomenal and I never had to wait too long for anything. They were very attentive to what time I had to leave to make my performance

Yelp
Gosh where do I even begin? Food was great, service was great, and the atmosphere was out of this world! As soon as someone walks in the atmosphere is warm and cozy but sooo amazing! I sat at the bar for a drink and our bartender Shawn was incredible! He was so sweet and amazing always chatted with me and made sure I was okay and my service was okay. I've never met such an amazing bartender! will definitely come back!!

Yelp
David the server was excellent as well as the whole staff. The duck confit was excellent As was the arugula salad. It could have used more avocado. Dressing was good. Order light dressing. Crème brûlée was superb! Great place to come before a Lincoln center performance

Yelp
I don't even know where to start on this mess. They had **two waitresses for the whole restaurant** on a Saturday night. Poor staff all looked totally stressed out and running around like crazy. They WERE well-staffed enough to have someone there taking photos with her phone of carpaccio being made table side which I assume was for social media promotion. Our reservation was 5:30pm for an 8pm show. Took our drink orders, brought our drinks about 25 minutes later - by the time we got our food, it was 50+ minutes into our reservation. Took our glasses from our (empty) drinks never asked if we wanted another round. Pasta was dried out from sitting, scallops were lukewarm (from sitting?). Never asked how the food was, got one water refill. Manager came over at 6:45 when we'd been sitting with empty plates and empty water glasses to ask if everything went well. We told him no....he and the waitress both asked if the problem was that they didn't get us out in time for our show. "No....." we explained the myriad of problems. We explained we would have liked a glass of wine to accompany our dinner, he stared at us like deer in the headlights. They comped our one round of drinks. Won't be back. Ever.

Yelp
Had a lovely pre-opera meal at this swanky joint -- the dining room feels more like a bank-turned-club, all marble and red lights. But the feeling is chill and nice, the service was friendly and they knew we were on an opera deadline and had no issues getting everything out on time. I came in a small group so we split two appetizers, the veal and the foie gras. Both were tasty, though the foie gras was truly stand out. The chutney was really delicious, not a sentence I find myself saying often. We also split a tiramisu for dessert that was perfect. For an entree I just got the truffle pasta, which did rule I gotta say. Extremely filling, what with its interesting pasta shape, not that that's a complaint. Delicate and lovely. I opted for a Rampoldi cocktail as well, which was dessert-like and delicious. Overall a nice experience, though nothing truly blew my mind. It's not entirely my style, and certainly more money than I'd pay normally for an experience that didn't feel entirely unique, but for the occasion and location I'd definitely come back.

Yelp
I was expecting an amazing meal based on the back story of this spot and the history of the original location in Monaco. Sadly, my experience was more mixed. The ambiance is beautiful and I loved the set up and colors. It was pretty desolate when we were there...perhaps because it was Monday night and they were missing the theater crowds. The food was just ok. The halibut was a little fishy, the scallops were uninspiring. The pumpkin soup was the best item I had. The brownie with ice cream was ordinary and I did not finish it. Service was just ok too...the waitress kept disappearing on us. Perhaps my expectations were too high or it was just an off night based on the other reviews.

Yelp
The service was absolutely on par at this eatery located close to Central Park and I loved the ambiance, restaurant vibes, and overall the way that they decorated the space. The restaurant was very accommodating with my requests for a birthday celebration and overall I had a pleasant experience. My party and I all ordered different meals and as a group felt the food was okay. I had the duck confit and it was not that great in the restaurant but thankfully I decided to try it as leftovers and it was much better. I did get to taste the lobster spaghetti while in the restaurant and that was decent. The best thing about the location is the service and ambiance. Also, I liked the breadbasket and pistachio gelato.

Yelp
Sophisticated and upscale with a sultry ambience, the atmosphere is only matched by the superb food and excellent service. David was our server and he took wonderful care of us- expertly guiding us through the menu. We enjoyed the half dozen oysters of the day which were beautifully presented. My husband ordered the duck confit and I ordered the salmon. His duck was the winner of the two entrees as the flavor was rich, dynamic and had an incredible sweetness that was perfectly balanced with the bold red wine sauce. Each bite brought a new burst of flavor and it was so enjoyable. The salmon was delicious as well and both were plated in such an aesthetically pleasing way: feast for the eyes! I was so pleased with the coconut sorbet- if you enjoy the flavor of coconut at all, you must order it. Rich and nutty and a perfect way to end the meal. We highly recommend this - it is next level.

Yelp
Bathe yourself in luxury you deserve it! I'm not sure why this landed on the UWS instead of the UES but it's snazzy to the max. The dinner prix fixe for $59is a steal but I did brunch. Ate: Omelette vegetarian Minestrone Chianti $16 What a treat! My dream is this enormous bottle of olive oil that arrives to the table with a bread basket and olives.!!! Divine and delicious. Fab! I can't wait to come for dinner!

Yelp
Rampoldi is top 3 French cuisine in NYC. Place is very weird in terms of lighting. Everything is red. I don't know why but you are here at night, be awared of the lighting. Food is undisputed great. We had lobster bisque, angus beef, burrata, risotto and also soufflé!!! Everything is on point. I felt like I haven't had such a good French dinner for a while. I felt like this is just as good as Le coucou. Service is also exceptional. Overall, if you see my post and happen in nyc, yes you gotta get here now.

Jeta B.

Yelp
Beautiful white table cloth restaurant with amazing service along side welcoming, knowledgeable & attentive staff. Came for dinner with my fiancé who enjoyed the experience as much as I did. Drinks, food & desserts were all great. Jose, our server was also a pleasure. Will def come back & will def be recommending to friends & family. P.S. The bar is also great & does full dinner service as well!

Yelp
This Monaco staple opening in New York has been a long time coming. At the very least, I for one have been waiting a long time. Poldi's as we call it lovingly in the family is the place for all important occasions. If a serious conversation needs to be had or a milestone celebrated and you want everything to be perfect, it's where one goes. Still in the early days of New York's understanding of the importance of this establishment, the meal was already flawless. Grissini and olives gave way to amazing burrata and pea soup dishes, followed by beef and duck. A festive traditional dessert finished off the meal followed by little pastries. The meal was impeccable - as expected - it was a birthday after all.

Yelp

Yelp
Amazing experience from start to finish. The ambiance was cozy, the staff was attentive, and the food was simply out of this world. Five stars without a doubt!

Yelp
I came in 12/21 for a dinner with my girlfriend for a spontaneous dinner since we were near Lincoln center, and I just have to say that the food, and the service was amazing! Normally when I ask for recommendations from a server they recommend the most expensive wine regardless of what I ordered. Marjourie (my server) not only recommended the "Dover sole" with reasonably priced wine, she went above and beyond with her service. This was the first time but not the last time I will be dining here!

Yelp
Decor- ritzy and glitzy Service - lots of uniformed servers. They were professional and conscientious.  Food - generous portions, plated beautifully This is the perfect place for a pre-theater prix fixe meal before seeing a show at Lincoln Center. The service was fast but not rushed. I was particularly pleased to see the Vitello Tonnato appetizer. It's one of my favorites, and they executed it very well. The pea soup (Soupe aux Pois) was rich and thick. The chicken was nicely seasoned and moist. Their pastry case in the back looks very interesting. We tried the Glace à la lavande de Provence. The yogurt tasted more like ice cream, and every bit on the plate was delicious, especially the truffle honey. Lemon meringue cake had the right balance of sweet and tart. FYI It looked like you could just stop in for a cocktail and pizza or snack at the bar. I might try that next time I'm in the area if I don't have a reservation.

Yelp
Being a fan of Monaco, I wanted to be a fan of Rampoldi in NYC. For me, it joins the rest of Lincoln Square in what someone on Reddit recently deemed to be "expensive mediocrity." The red lighting is terrible and everyone looks like a vampire. Secondly, the booth cushions are notably low quality for a new high-budget restaurant. Things started off questionably as my mocktail was just very sugary fruit punch. Most canned mocktails these days are superior. The tableside beef tartare sounds great but I found the execution to be way off for the price point. First of all, the cart with the mixing bowl is higher than the tables, so once all of the ingredients are poured in you can't look and see the actual mixing as you could for a caesar salad made next to your table. More unfortunately, and this is clear before anything is mixed, the beef is finely ground, with a texture that ends up being mushy nearly overpowered by the added fats / binding agents. Real beef tartare should have some fortitude and some density to each bite. This was very disappointing. The crab ravioli with clams were fine. The whole branzino prepared tableside was delicious and this was the closest thing to the fond food memories I had in Monaco. This is a viable one-and-done if you have unlimited money! But my experience here supports the hypothesis that when you dip below Michelin-starred dining, it turns out that NYC's food scene has a density of excellent restaurants that doesn't have much room for stuffy expats from tiny countries.

Yelp
Dined in Rampoldi before going to see the Opera in Lincoln Center. The ambience is so elegant, food excellent, fish was fresh and tasty, and the service was very attentive but never overbearing! Will definitely go back! Ps Make sure you taste the Grand Marnier Souffle, best I ever had!

Yelp
Rampolli is a beautiful dining experience. Venue is gorgeous! Staff are warm and welcoming. Food is presently beautifully. Some of our favs... Rampoldi's take on eggplant parm! Delicious. Also a great Caesar Salad. Desserts are special Everything here ensures a lovely dining experience

Yelp
This is a beautiful, old school French/Italian restaurant. The service was terrific, and the food was amazing! We had: - Salade d'Artichauts et Avocat - delicious with thinly sliced artichokes. - Lobster Thermidor - fantastic old school classic done perfectly. It wasn't too heavy and the sauce worked extremely well with the lobster. - Confit de Canard "Rampoldi" - perfectly prepared. - Black Truffle Potato Puree - wonderful with lots of truffles. - Soufflé au Grand Marnier - terrific and made to order. Even the bread was amazing. Overall a wonderful meal!

James S.

Yelp
They just cancelled my reservation made weeks ago so they accommodate a larger party. This was done three days before I was scheduled. They offered to move me to an inferior restaurant without compensation. If you are thinking of making a reservation , think twice . You never know if they will honor it .
google avatar

Yelp
A touch of elegance with pretty good food quality. Stepping into this restaurant being a back memories from the actual Monte Carlo restaurant this one is copied from.
google avatar

Frank A.

Yelp
After almost 80 years in Monte Carlo, Rampoldi has brought their unique Italian-French cuisine to New York. Chef Antonio Salvatore is the executive chef as he has been in Monte Carlo for several years. The food, cocktails and wine are all terrific, but its the Monte Carlo glitz that sets it apart. The service is excellent and the atmosphere is as rich as the prices on the menu.

Kathryn O.

Yelp
This place was gorgeous! Food & service awesome. Artichoke salad was delicious. Also try the duck confit. Was amazing! Will definitely come again!

Zane B.

Yelp
What a beautiful space! Excellent drinks from Kiki the bartender, and the calamari was exquisite. Very intimate private spaces that are certainly worth the price. Will be back again!

Yelp
A spectacular discovery for Sunday brunch in the Lincoln Center neighborhood. We remain bewildered as to why it is not more crowded, but it is relatively a new restaurant, so go here now before it gains popularity. The interior is elegant, and you can actually have a quiet engaged conversation with a good friend or family member, compared to the other three restaurants around the corner, which tend to be noisy. Service is also very cordial, and the details are noticeable. The bar is also a beautiful view.

Sofya S.

Yelp
A great place with a cozy atmosphere and delicious food! The dishes are tasty, beautifully presented, and the service is perfect . Definitely coming back!

Milena R.

Yelp
Rampoldi is actually one of my favorite Italian-French restaurants in NY. The service it's very special, they make you feel so special, the decoration is very elegant, specially for the red lights. People needs to know more about this place. We will back for sure... plates recommended: caviar beef tartar, Rossini and soufflé

Marc C.

Yelp
Ambiance like a royal palace. Service to match. Plus delicious gourmet food and an incredible wine list! thank you to Andrea for your hospitality and finding us the perfect wine for our meal. We'll definitely be back soon!

Yelp
Come here for a delicious and relaxing weekend brunch option. The service is 5 stars Michelin excellence and the ambiance is everything you'd expect from a fine dining restaurant.

Stephen H.

Yelp
Our best meal during week long trip to New York. Intimate setting for dinner. Best scallops ever, attentive service without being fawning, and timed everything well to get out in time for ballet. Special cocktails excellent as well, wish we had another night in town to visit this elegant restaurant again.

Amelie H.

Yelp
Food was amazing. Service was flawless some hunk made us a beautiful beef tartareEnrique the manager was lovely and very generous really had a great time! Thank you. The atmosphere was beautiful and red. Definitely coming back

Claire F.

Yelp
Lincoln Ristorante was going to be closed that night, and they recommended Rampoldi as a back up. The wait staff was young and maybe a little green, but they were fine. The food was delicious and we made it in time for the show without feeling rushed. I had the tagliatelle, which was delicious and ice cream or gelato for dessert. We had a nice wine the waitress recommended. The ambiance was nice too, upscale in feeling and not noisy. A+

Cliff G.

Yelp
Solid new restaurant very close to Lincoln Center. Food was all well-prepared although, given the rather high price point, i would have expected something more interesting. We already have highish-end mediterranean across the street at Boulud Sud, which (although it's been at its location for years) feels like it's working harder at being inventive. That said, I had the salmon and it was perfectly prepared (thank goodness for sous vide machines). The Lemon Chiffon cake for dessert was a large portion, although the cake lacked any real pop of lemon. The look of the place is what I imagine Monaco to look like -- for my frame of reference, it reminded me of restaurants I've been to in Vegas. Take that for what you will, but it's unusual for the Upper West Side. Service was attentive if maybe fussy, although I was surprised at the basic screwup for expecting us to use our butter knives as our appetizer knives. At this price point, they should know better.

Allie S.

Yelp
Excellent restaurant with extremely kind and helpful staff! Food is delicious and the olive oil is to die for. A real treat. The bar is beautiful too!
google avatar

Ping K.

Yelp
I think folks might be scared off by how fancy it looks, but the food is solid and the service personable and friendly. Interior is lush and mirrored, with a VIP section hidden behind a secret motorized door. The brunch is incredible (and an incredible deal, considering), and of course the tableside filet de boeuf tartare is a can't-miss. I LOVED the crab ravioli with bottarga, but it's definitely not for everyone, super-umami.
google avatar

Carrie P.

Yelp
Eggplant Parmesan flan delicious but it's not the traditional eggplant Parmesan. It's lighter and healthier and totally delicious. My husband ordered the Steak au poivre with truffle potatoes which were perfection. I ordered the Sole meunière which was just ok. Fish was a bit overcooked but the crust on it was excellently done. Dessert was the Grand Marnier soufflé. It was light fluffy and tasty. Overall I would return. I gave it 4 stars because when we arrived the hostess told my husband they had a dress code and told him to take his fedora hat off yet later I saw people in jeans and polo shirts so what dress code is she talking about. And if they have one they should apply it equally though I think they're pretentious to have one.

Anne C.

Yelp
Amazing meal - excellent salad and meat ragu with stellar cocktails and upscale, festive ambiance. Very good service without being too attentive.

Luzdary F.

Yelp
I was there with my husband last week everything was delicious but the most delicious was H. zut Mousse cake omg , I can't wait for order again

Giovanni C.

Yelp
Food is typically excellent. Have eaten there 5 times in the last 4 months. The first 4 timesbgreat all around. Tonight, however, was different. We sat down as a 6 reservation, 4 place settings on the table. We asked our server 3 times for 2 more set ups, it took me asking a different person to get the setups. Food served cold. Lobster bisque came out cold. Pasta cold. We had to ask several times for water. We were drinking Pellegrino. No attention by our server. When we finally ordered dessert, it took 54 minutes to get it. I asked our server at the 34-minute mark about the dessert, and we had 2 small children with us. She told us a souffle takes 25 minutes, which I replied. I know that, but we ordered it 34 minutes ago. She went to check for it. 10 minutes later, she said it would be ready in 2 minutes. After about 2 more minutes, I asked to get the other items and to forget the souffle. A manager or supervisor came to apologize and said the souffle would be in the house. The other desserts came out but not the espresso. Once, I questioned that it came out in 1 minute, but no sugar was put on the table. The souffle finally came out, but we were so disturbed at this point that we asked for the check.

Douglas K.

Yelp
We walked into Rampoldi without a reservation, and were lucky enough to get a table for two. Under the circumstances, we did not complain about being seated right by the noisy bar and next to a service station, which meant that staff were standing literally right next to us most of the evening. The interior was beautiful, and staff were friendly. Everything we had was perfection, from the bread and breadsticks, olives, cocktails (truly excellent) to the appetizers and main dishes. The crab ravioli were particularly excellent in every way, worthy of any number of Michelin stars. The "Monarch" cocktail was remarkable; perfectly balanced, smooth and blended; truly a royal upgrade to the classic concept of a (commoner's) sidecar. The only problem arose when our main dishes failed to arrive after a very protracted wait. When we asked them to check on our food, it was discovered that they had "sent the order to the wrong kitchen." (Huh?) That would be the kitchen of the adjacent (at the rear) Atlantic Grill, which is owned by the same group. The order had to be placed anew, and so there was a further protracted delay until we finally received our dinner. This simply should not happen! Even more remarkable, they offered absolutely no accommodation or compensation other than a verbal apology. We still paid for the exceedingly delayed main courses in full, and did not receive even a complimentary coffee or a dessert on the house. Fantastic food, beautiful space (except beware the tables crammed in next to the service stations), and generally good service, but a few kinks to be ironed out. I would love to give them five stars based on the food and cocktails, but cannot for the above reasons. We will certainly go back, however, and recommend it to friends. This is a very notable addition to the Lincoln Center area.
