Where To Get Indian Takeout And Delivery In Chicago

"The people who own the Spice Room used to work at Rangoli, so the menu is almost identical though the food isn’t quite as spicy. But either of the Rangoli locations (in Wicker or Lincoln Park) is a good alternative if you’re either out of The Spice Room’s delivery range and/or it’s a Tuesday (when The Spice Room is closed)." - adrian kane

Rangoli - Review - Wicker Park - Chicago - The Infatuation

"The people who own the Spice Room used to work at Rangoli, so the menu is almost identical. This means a long list of dishes like pav bhaji, biryani, curries, and naan. And while the food isn’t quite as spicy as what you'd expect from an Indian spot, it's still tasty. So either of the Rangoli locations (in Wicker or Lincoln Park) is a decent alternative if it’s Tuesday when The Spice Room is closed." - Adrian Kane

Chicago’s best restaurants for delivery - Eater Chicago

"Rangoli arguably serves some of the best Indian food that’s not on Devon Avenue. This small Humboldt Park spot is often packed to the brim so if diners don’t feel like waiting for a table, delivery is always an option. Try the gobi Manchurian — fried cauliflower sauteed with garlic, ginger, and spring onions — or stick with classics such as samosas, butter chicken, and lamb biryani. Order delivery here. There is also a Lincoln Park location." - Jeffy Mai, Ashok Selvam

20 Outstanding BYOB Restaurants in Chicago - Eater Chicago

"Rangoli – one of the best Indian restaurants outside of Devon Avenue – ably executes the staples, such as samosas, butter chicken, and biryani. The Gobi Manchurian is also a popular Indo-Chinese dish featuring fried cauliflower tossed in a sweet and spicy sauce. Diners bring booze from outside to temper the spices." - Jeffy Mai, Nicole Schnitzler

Tired this place on a Friday night. We started off with Gobi Manchurian which was delicious. For main course we then had Kofta Makhani and Lamb Curry with tandoori roti and Naan. The food was tasty and was served hot. The service was great and the Indian server was very warm. The ambiance is just ok. I would say this place was a pleasant surprise with Indian flavours. I would recommend to try it!

Google
Food was absolutely delicious! Really enjoyed the lamb tikka masala, the meat was so tender and moist. Friendly staff and quiet setting. Great to pop in for a comforting meal.

sejal jain

Google
Bhaji was burnt, onions weren’t fresh, raita too sour. Only naan was good.

Balaji Ramanathan

Google
The place has a good ambience and the service was quick, efficient and friendly. The food itself was very tasty - well-prepared, correct combination of tastes and spiciness, etc. The Gobi Manchurian appetizer was mouthwatering in taste, crispiness etc. The quantities were a little too less, but nothing else to complain about as far as the food was concerned. Parking on the street was free and plentiful, one more advantage over the complete chaos of Devon street.

Google
The service was nice, but I’m sorry, this is a really bad choice for Indian food. We ordered gobi Manchurian, palak paneer, chicken tikka, garlic naan, onion kulcha, and basmati rice. First, neither rice or naan come with the curry, so you have to buy it all separately which adds another 10+ $ to the meal and is far more expensive than any Indian restaurant I’ve ever been to, and I’m Indian, so I’ve been to countless. Next, the portions are way too small considering the $18 curries. Maybe it’s an illusion because of the size of the bowl, but I was regretting coming here as soon as I saw the food come out. The gobi Manchurian was ok, but the curries were the worst I’ve ever had. I’m really sorry to be this blunt but it’s not fair to charge a premium and give horrible quality. They tasted like nothing. There was no flavor. I hope this restaurant can make some serious revisions to their recipes. The onion kulcha was not good and naan didn’t seem fresh. We did not even take leftovers and I hate to waste food.

Google
I ordered the lamb vindaloo....which was maybe my error. I've never seen a vindaloo dish with so much oil (or ghee). This made the sauce more like a soup. Taste wise it was okay. Definitely an Americanized vindaloo as it wasn't very hot. The lentils were good as was the naan bread. The lamb in the lamb samosas was rather dry and crumbly. The flavour was okay. Overall a bit of a meh experience.....especially for the price.

Google
The amount of food was way too small for their prices. The Gobi Manchurian was $13 and they served their dish in a very tiny delivery container. The chicken tikka masala had 6 pieces of chicken and they charged $17.50 for it. It was also very heavy on the tomato flavor and not of the all spices that makes this dish delicious. Very disappointing. I will never order again.

Google
Seriously out of all the Indian restaurants places I’ve been to in IL, this is seriously the BEST on my list. Though chicken korma was the best out of all and Red Bean Dal makni must try yummy yummy samosas All these dishes are really special & I promise that you can trust me, I’m a foodie and this place is the SPOT

Yelp
solid food with very nice staff and a cute enough space conveniently right down the street from my apartment. Lakeview in general suffers from a lack of Indian food options, so it's great to see this open up and Cumin (Indian/Nepalese) coming later this year. we started with the pav bhaji and then had some garlic naan with the kashmiri pulav rice that was so very good, along with two of the typical chicken dishes and took some gulab jamun to go (my fav Indian dessert!). excited to go back and have some more non-standard options on the menu.

Yelp
Rangoli never disappoints. The Lamb Vindaloo has the perfect kick for spice lovers, while the samosas are crispy on the outside and soft like paratha inside--absolute perfection. The Aloo Palak is creamy and balances out the spice beautifully. Every bite is addictive!

Yelp
Solid and consistent food. We have only ordered delivery, but see there is a new Belmont location we might try in person. Chicken Saag - chicken is a bit dry. Wish they still had the Saag Paneer, but they took it off the menu. Chicken Chettinad - perfectly lightly spicy. Paneer Butter Masala - tried this, it's got good sauce but didn't prefer the texture of this paneer. We tried this in place of my much loved Saag Paneer, but that was recently removed from the menu. We always get the fried appetizers and the chicken biryani and a Chicken Tikka Masala for this kids.

Yelp
The staff are racist and the owner as well and if you are food courier and you are not indian , stay away. There were flies that were swatted in the kitchen while picking up food

Yelp
I got the Madras Lamb Korma delivery and it was delicious. It came with an order of rice. It was a great dish, pretty spicy but not too spicy. We also ordered the garlic naan which was tasty as well.

Yelp
We love going to Rangoli for an intimate meal. The restaurant is cozy and welcoming. It's BYOB and the service is quick to bring you a beer or wine glass when they see you ambling in with that black bag from the liquor store down the street. Love, love, love the lamb korma and lamb vindaloo. Honestly, I've never had anything here that I didn't like. The portions are filling, the biryani is bigger than your head, and do not sleep on the spicy pickles! All of the veg-only dishes are all stars as well. The raita is really flavorful which I often need when I take a breath from eating vindaloo non-stop. I really love it here, and the staff is super cool.

Yelp
A group of us came here for an early dinner, and we were seated at a table by the window - the restaurant itself is nicely decorated, but I was a little weary since there were no other diners besides our party. Most seem to get their orders to-go. The menu included both vegetarian and non-vegetarian appetizers and dishes, seafood items and lamb items, rice entrees, breads, desserts, and drinks. We ordered: +the Rangoli Platter - this came with 2 samosas, pakoras, tandoori chicken, and 2 seek kabobs; there were four of us, and we were able to split it up where everyone had a sample; the samosas were on the spicier end, and the tandoori chicken was actually pretty tasty in terms of the spices; I just wished that the whole thing came out sizzling hot, as it was served on an iron skillet +Chicken Tikka Masala - this was forgettable, as while it had a tomato-based flavor, it was still bland and lacked the spices +Lamb Vindaloo - this was a favorite among the group, as it was a nice thick curry style; it was definitely on the spicier end, but could have been more spicier +Chana Masala - not the best chana masala I've had; could have been more thicker and more flavorful Rangoli has another location on Clark. Service was kind and friendly, but there was also some requests that were lost in translation (asking for hot sauces, ice with our water, etc.). There is restricted street parking around the area, so mind the signs. I'm glad I was able to check this place out, but not sure I'd go out of my way to return. +kind and friendly staff +reservations accepted +limited restricted street parking in the area

Yelp
Just ordered takeout on a rainy day. The food was well packaged and still warm on arrival. Ordered lamb korma, chicken tikka masala, garlic naan, and basmati rice. The entrees were underwhelming more like a flavored soup -- very skimpy on the proteins and meat was chewy and dry. The garlic naan and rice were good - very much needed to soak up the soupy entrees.

Yelp
Malai kofta- not sweet at all, the koftas were not solid enough & broke apart at the slightest touch(3/5) Chicken bagara- this is more like an Indian twist to Thai curry. Very different flavor! (3.5/5)

Vivek P.

Yelp
Got chicken biryani. This is not biryani. This is just unflavored white rice packed around some chicken. I'd give it one star had it not been for the actual bursts of flavor as my fork gets closer to the center.

Dan B.

Yelp
Got it because had good reviews on ubereats. My butter chicken was super dry and the Naan was tacky in texture
google avatar

Yelp
Food and service are excellent. The only problem that annoyed me was the dozens of food delivery drivers coming in the front door, disturbing the dining vibe for all the customers. My suggestion to the owners is have all your delivery pickups in the rear, this will be a better experience for those who are dining up front Looking forward to coming back again soon!

Yelp
Decent place to have Indian food. Service was nice. We ordered paneer butter masala and garlic naan. Garlic naan was delicious with fresh garlic spread on the top. Cauliflower Manchurian was okayish.

Yelp
The food here is actually really good I've eaten here a few times. The only problem I have is the cost. I feel like the prices are too high which forces me to eat here on rare occasions when I want to pay an arm and a leg. Outside of that the food, the service, and the ambience are all great!

Yelp
Knocking off a star because the bathroom was absolutely DISGUSTING. I didn't even use it. I felt like I went inside a portaJohn, which I haven't been inside of one in a while. Giving me PTSDs as I am writing this review. Overall, I felt like the food was very good though. Wish I never went to the washroom because it made me think about the hygiene/cleanliness of the place after my meal. The chicken vindaloo was spicy (I even asked for mild- spice level). The dishes do not come with rice, which was a little disappointing because naturally with such saucy based dishes, you'd have to eat it with rice by default (or naan!). For the price of the dishes, you really do not get a lot of food. I had about 4 small pieces of chicken breasts max, and a few potatoes in my order of the chicken vindaloo.

Suzan P.

Yelp
Had a nice experience here during COVID times with a group of 4! They have a relatively small indoor space but do take reservations. They are also BYOB with no corkage fee! Food is great and decently priced for the area and menu has a lot of variety . We were so stuffed for about $20 per person. Glad to have options for Indian dining!
google avatar

Yelp
I highly recommend this restaurant! The Butter Chicken was phenomenal and the staff was extremely friendly. The decor is also awesome. The dish came with a large bowl of rice, and I couldn't resist eating it all at the restaurant. Overall, a must-visit for anyone looking for delicious food, great service, and a charming atmosphere.
google avatar

Gina S.

Yelp
I don't know what happened to you, Rangoli. Out of all my take out options this was consistently good for years. But then they removed the spice level options, which wasn't terrible, I'll admit I usually get mild. And then there was less and less chicken or meat included. And now the last two times two of the dishes were disgusting--watery lentils and weird Tikka masala with a strange sweet flavor and ingredients that have never been included before. The ricr and Naan are still good, if I need to say something positive. I think.. maybe give them one last chance? But I don't think so. I'd rather pay higher prices for what you used to offer than whatever it's turned into.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent food, great price and friendly service. I tried the Chicken Tikka Masala, a lamb dish and the naan. All were prepared perfectly. The seasonings were excellent. Our server was friendly and fast. Note that this place is BYOB. There is an excellent beer store a few doors to the north on the same side of the street. Pick up some beer and stop by Rangoli for an excellent Indian meal.

Yelp
Just loved this spot! Can't wait to go back! My husband and I had been craving Indian for a while and randomly found this place on North Avenue. The service was excellent- so friendly and accommodating. We also did not know it was BYOB with no cork few. So, after we ordered, the waitress directed us to the liquor store a block away. We had the Rangoli Platter for an appetizer. It was good and flavorful, but next time, I would just order the Gobi Manchurian because the cauliflower florets were to die for! For dinner, we split the Madras Lamb Korma and the Lamb Vindaloo. Both were excellent! The Lamb Vindaloo has an excellent spice that just kept building but you couldn't stop eating it! We also ordered a side of the Chilly and Garlic Naan that was soft, fresh and flavorful. There was so much food that our leftovers made for two more meals. And you can not beat the price! We will be back many times!

Ryan S.

Yelp
Met the cook and am so glad I did. It was great food. I recommend Rangoli for that classic, amazing Indian taste.

Yelp
First tried Rangoli as take-out on Grubhub. It was fantastic! The food arrived still hot, and the portion sizes were generous (good for about two to three meals). Ordered them a few more times (again via Grubhub), but then sadly moved to an apartment outside of the delivery range. Fast forward a few months and I'm thinking about exploring the Indian cuisine options in Chicago a bit more in depth. Saw this spot and figured I'd give it a shot for real. Went in on a week night, and the restaurant was nearly full. Street parking only, but there was plenty of it on North Ave. We had to wait for 20 minutes for a table. Waiters were quick and friendly. My friend and I ended up ordering very standard Indian-American dishes: Veggie Samosas, Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Vindaloo, rice, plain naan. The samosas were fresh, piping hot. Went very well with the tamarind and cilantro chutney. The tikka masala was much more mellow and tame compared to the vindaloo (spicy!), but both had a good amount of flavor to them. Portions were large with plenty left over to take home. A few notes: none of the curries come with rice, you will have to order as an extra side. You can adjust the heat level of the curries - a medium is on the higher end of my comfort level and I enjoy spicy food. The restaurant has a BYOB policy - the table next to us had two bottles of red wine, which looked like it could pair fantastically with the curries. Overall, the experience has solidified Rangoli on my list of go-to's, especially for take-out/pick-up. Perhaps not the absolute best Indian food I've tasted, but Rangoli comes out solidly swinging.

Yelp
Excited for Indian food and having heard so much about this place I was highly disappointed. Started off with gobi Manchurian which was nice and crispy but lacked some spice. For mains, got paneer butter masala which came with a lure of oil floating at the top, asked for it to be remade and it came out exactly the same! The garlic naan was good and fresh. Service was fast.

stephanie g.

Yelp
Best Indian food I've ever had hands down, maybe some of the best food I've ever had period!!! Paneer butter masala + mango chicken were both amazing.
google avatar

Jason S.

Yelp
Really only ever had takeout from here (and delivery can take a minute), but so worth it! The chicken tikka masala is totally tomato-y (but nice!), and the butter chicken and gobi manchurian are lovely, but the lamb biryani is FIRE. As are the keema samosa & garlic naan. Don't sleep on this joint. Just plan for some lead time on delivery/takeout.
google avatar

Rie U.

Yelp
3.5 stars. I ordered using Uber Eats and the delivery was on time. The butter chicken was tasty and better than most other Indian restaurants in Chicago! Lamb curry was also solid and flavorful as well. This place does spicy right, btw. (If you don't tolerate spicy foods, the mild will be too spicy for you.) The breads disappointed tho. The roti just didn't taste right... I dunno how to describe it but it wasn't roti. The naan was okay but tasted kinda stale or a day old? TLDR: great butter chicken but the breads are underwhelming.
google avatar

Jason V.

Yelp
Do NOT ORDER ONLINE!! They said 5Mins longer and did not hit the expected time! They came back and said 10mins longer!! It was actually 30mins longer because she said they had to cook the rice!! They don't know how to take care about their customers!! It took over 50mins just to pick up! Find another Indian place! We ordered Vegetarian Bryani rice and they gave us MEAT!!! See pic! I am so pissed off!

Michael R.

Yelp
Best indian food I've ever had. Everytime I'm back in Chicago, I HAVE to stop in! Chettinad and Vindaloo are to die for. Malai Kofta is also a good second dish to cool your mouth down.
google avatar

Lucas W.

Yelp
One of my top 5 favorite Indian restaurants in Chicago. Love their korma and pau bhajee. Also frequently order the mattar paneer and palak paneer. Both are good but not as good as the korma and bhajee. The Bhajee is deliciously spicy and splits well amongst a few people. The korma is rich and smooth. The mattar paneer isn't the best I've had as there aren't enough peas, an odd issue I suppose when the peas are a cheap ingredient. I made a mistake in an online order recently and they fixed it no questions asked. Great service! Highly recommend and can't wait to eat here in person again!
google avatar

Winnie N.

Yelp
This place is among my top Indian restaurants in Chicago area and approved by my Indian peeps. Also good quality ingredients! What we've tried: - Chicken 65 (4/5): so this is not exactly chicken 65. Doesn't taste like one. However, it's like a good Indian chicken popcorn. - Gobi Manchurian (5/5): so good! This went empty fast! I don't tend to order this dish but got it for my vegetarian people. Highly approved. - Chicken Korma (5/5): the best chicken Korma in town!! Bf is a regular Korma eater and always orders this dish at any Indian restaurant we go to. This is hands down the best we've found here. Super creamy, strong nut flavor, a little sweet that go well with the savory curry. If you order this spicy, it enhances the flavor and gives a kick. - Navratan Korma (3/5): basically veg Korma. Lots of veggies that drown out the sauce. Missing some salt. It tastes like a savory dessert almost. There's pineapple in it which is kinda interesting.. - Chicken Tikka Masala (4/5): this tastes good, a bit sour due to the tomato. I added a bit of salt which makes it much better. White chicken cubes are a tad dry. - Shrimp Kadai masala (4.5/5): The sauce of this curry is so tasty. Taste homemade too. Recommend this if you're bored of the typical cream curry sauce. - Lamb Biryani (4/5): this is very yummy rice dish but it doesn't quite have the flavor profile of biryanis. It's hard to explain. There are a lot of meats and spicy option is super spicy which bf loves. - Malai kofta (5/5): wow. This is so good. Creamy yummy goodness. If you're vegetarian, it's a must try. - Chilly garlic naan (4/5): big soft chewy naan. The seasoning is so so for me, not bad at all though. Rangoli is definitely top 3 in Chicago land for us so we will continue to come back.
google avatar

Christina S.

Yelp
I ordered recently via Grub Hub and was for the most part happy with my food. The Chicken Biryani had an adequate amount of quality chicken that was tender and paired with Yogurt Raita which balanced out the heat. However, some of the spices were not well cooked in and ended up on the crunchy side which I found unusual. The Samosas were gigantic and each one could have been a meal in itself!!!! Huge!!! The Naan was warm and perfectly prepared. The Samosa sauces were of a generous portion as well. I would order from here again and like to try other menu items in the future. Delivery was fast!!! Thank you!
google avatar

Alex C.

Yelp
This place has solid indian food, and it's BYOB. More importantly, I can walk there from my place :-) They're not kidding around with the spicyness if you get spicy, and the naan is truly delicious. BYOB. BYOB. BYOB.
google avatar

Ron C.

Yelp
This is where I order from when I have family visiting or when someone at home or visiting my home is craving real Indian food. They already know "hey Ron, let's do take out at Rangoli". Chicago has some amazing eats but the lamb biryani, chicken 65, garlic chilly naan here really sets the standard for Indian in my book. And the bhindi (okra) and baingan (eggplant) is well pretty bangin' (Ok, that's bad...foods good, just the joke). Kids love the garlic naan and tikka masala...but honestly you come here for the food that doesn't taste the same at any other Indian restaurant. It's spicy, so if you're sensitive, you should ask them to tone it down. I usually do take out, and while the service may not necessarily give you the warm fuzzies, there is a lot of work and pride in the product and it shows time and time again. My go to Indian restaurant. Check it out
google avatar

Ameer S.

Yelp
Average American-Indian food. Caters to a largely non-Indian palette, so this could actually be good for people looking for a less intense flavor profile. The Palak paneer, lamb masala, and gulab jamun were okay. Veggie Samosas, however, were super fresh and bomb. Friendly service and BYOB

ella v.

Yelp
Loved the Shrimp Kadai Masala and the Veggie Samosas were also so great. Recommend getting a few pieces of naan to dip into the masala sauce. AMAZING FLAVOR ON EVERYTHING!! 10/10

Yelp
Dropped by here for some indian food. Pretty empty on a weekday evening, and the staff were very attentive in making sure everything was prompt. Interior is pretty bare bones but clean. The menu is extensive and hits most of the favorites. They will tailor the spice levels so definitely make sure to ask - can come very spicy or pretty mild. Definitely a few to try gobi manchurian - definitely a favorite, and a bit of a different profile at taste than regular northern Indian food. Very sweet and sour, and the texture of the fried cauliflower goes well with the sauce. Wasn't mushy at all. malai kofta - well done here. their curries come in different gravies, unlike some indian places that serve a lot of theirs in the same tomato based sauce. This one is deep and creamy, with a nutty favor. Definitely worth a try. daal - very creamy and well flavored. worth a try for sure. Prices are decent for the portions, although it is a bit on the pricier side. You pay for rice, as it doesn't come with the curries, but it comes as a huge heaping serving. Definitely a favorite in Chicago and worth a try.

Yelp
Broke my own rule and tried Rangoli again tonight, and I'm glad I did! Whatever issues they were having before have been rectified. Appropriate portions, tasty as ever, arrived hot and quick too. Hopefully this can go back to being our go-to Indian place in the neighborhood. Glad to have it back.
google avatar

Abhijit L.

Yelp
Samosa filling disguised as bhaji in pav bhaji, no flavour for malai chicken. Overall pretty lacklustre. Service was average. Would not try again.

Yelp
I am Indian so my bar is pretty high and this place delivered! The chicken tikka was so good and we had plenty of leftovers. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
As a young Jewish boy I grew up in rogers park. Devon was and is the mecca of Indian food and we had 4-5 favorite spots. That area is still amazing but I'm super happy to NOT have to travel waaaay up there for killer Indian food. High quality and very authentic foods with nice service. Portions were a little smaller than what I'm used to but I'll chalk that up to urban tax and the so called recession. This is a must try!

Yelp
Rangoli is my favorite Indian restaurant in town! First of all...the portions are good. My husband and I can share entres and still have leftovers for the next day. Their naan is the size of my forearm. Everything is flavorful and delicious. My faves are the chicken (or tofu) masala. The lamb vindaloo is spicy. My boo asked for extra spice one day. The staff tried to warn him. The entire meal he had a steady stream of sweat rolling off of his forehead.I definitely recommend the Gobi Manchurian - oh my goddess, it is so tasty! The samosas are yummy too! I've eaten several times at the restaurant and order take out at least once a month. I wish I had photos to share but I always finish my meals before I remember to take a pic. Eat here! You won't regret it!

Yelp
Maybe they were having an off night, but was not impressed with the almost $70 meal to feed two people. I ordered from Uber Eats, and the $4.50 fee is ridiculous. Pros: - I really loved the flavorful brown sauce that came with the appetizers. - Uber Eats delivery was received in a reasonable time. - The order was correct. Cons: - This was the worst Palak Panner I've had; it was flavorless and incredibly watered downed. Also, the cheese cubes were burned and rubbery. - Servings were small. The rice serving was especially stingy and loosely packed in the container. The rice that was included in two containers could have easily been placed in one container. One serving of naan is literally one piece of bread. - Green sauce that accompanies the apps was terribly salty. I'm ok with salty flavors, but this was like they entire shaker accidentally got spilled into the green sauce. - We ordered our dishes spicy and both were mild.

Yelp
In all honesty, the food is better than a three-star; my wife and I have spent time in India proper as well as many of the Indian restaurants in the Devon area here in Chicago. But it is not the food that gets me every time we order from Rangoli (which I support mainly because it's so close to my house)...it's the prices, and the value proposition for those prices. This past weekend was a prime example. We got a chicken tikka masala, a lamb curry and a cauliflower curry. We also added on some butter and garlic naan. All of the food tasted fine. But why are the curries always so shockingly light on the ingredients that they purport to feature? I'm used to seeing at least a few pieces of cauliflower in my cauliflower curry, but I'll be damned if I didn't see more than two in my entire bowl this time around. (Potatoes, though? Plenty. I hope to not see any potatoes next time to even this out!) And for the chicken and the lamb? "Scarce" was the word that one of my friends used. And the breads were only OK. Now, for all of this food plus rice, $30 feels good. $35 feels realistic. $52.92 is what we were charged, which suddenly makes "takeout" feel like "date night" REAL quick-like. Adding in the fact that delivery times here are legitimately terrible--I have waited 75 minutes before to get food from Rangoli delivered, and there wasn't even a major weather event to blame this on--and I think I've had my last meal at Rangoli. It's been a nice run but now I need to consider driving a bit farther away to get better food for a lower price. Once you have been to India, it's hard to justify paying more than a few dollars a bowl for anything, but the import price on lamb shouldn't be reflected at this wide a variance from reality.

Yelp
(More like 3.5 stars) According to Grubhub, Rangoli is one of the most popular take-out restaurants in the Bucktown area. This fact and my craving for biryani, naan, and other Indian food motivated my dinner trip to Rangoli with friends. Did Rangoli live up to my expectations? We ordered the Chicken 65, Gobi Manchurian, the Palak Paneer, and a side of basmati rice. Overall the dishes were OK but the spice profile was a little more bland than what I was hoping for. Still I expected this because any good restaurant (ie one that wants to stay in business) is going to adjust their food to their customer's preferred flavor profile. FYI restaurant is BYOB, which is a plus. Didn't bring alcohol? No problem because there's a liquor store only a few blocks away. The service and atmosphere was nice, it was easy to relax and have a conversation with friends. Personally the food is a bit duller than what I was hoping for, so I will continue looking for an Indian go-to in Bucktown.

Yelp
I have to admit that I am not a big fan of Indian cuisine, but we recently tried this restaurant. Overall experience was positive. The first surprise was an almost empty restaurant (Sunday evening), but we soon realized that this place was more take-out because so many delivery drivers stopped by and picked up the food. The second surprise was that you needed to order rice separately. Most Indian restaurants I tried were serving rice together with the main dish. The service was excellent and attentive. We ordered about six main dishes. Naan (regular and garlic) was perfect. Gobi Manchurian was phenomenal, even though it tasted more Chinese than Indian. The curry, korma, and vindaloo dishes were tasty, although some were very spicy. If that is important to you, please pay attention to the heat level in the menu and ask the server about desired heat level (we had a couple of level 2 dishes, so level 3 is even spicier). My tandoori chicken was a little dry, so maybe better to stick with curry, masala, vindaloo, or korma dishes. Mango Kulfi was spectacular. Prices are reasonable. Portion sizes aren`t small, but you would not have too much to take home after you are done with your meal. This is a good choice if you like Indian food, but be prepared for some hiccups.

Yelp
I came here with a party of 9 to celebrate a birthday, but just want to take some time to celebrate the Gobi Manchurian. Wow. This is way off track, but I've been searching for a suitable substitution for chicken wings since I've gone vegetarian. Well, unintentionally, the gobi manchurian is it! These fried cauliflower florets are fried to Perfection with a hearty crunch and soft inside. Then, the sauce is customizable in levels of hotness. Personally, I recommend the mild because they are a bit sweet, but the medium has a nice spice without being overpowering. I could go on about the rest of my entrees but I really needed to let the Gobi Manchurian shine. Bon appetite!

Yelp
Decent first experience at Rangoli. What surprised me most was the service was decent, which I'm sorry to say isn't the norm at most Indian establishments. There was a waiter standing by near the table almost the entire time. Very nice guy. Also, it was a Friday night, but the wait wasn't mad at all. We'll, we did get the last table at that moment, but even if we had come in a few mins later, I'd guess the wait would've been like 10 mins. Nowhere near what I read in some other reviews. Granted it was 9pm already, when we for there. Also, the place is a BYOB, which is always good to know ahead of time. Food-wise, it was good. For starters, we had onion pakoras, which I liked. At first the waitress didn't think they had ketchup, but then she was able to "find" some. Im like, you don't have ketchup?? For the mains, Paneer and Dal Makhani were good. Paneer was decent, though a bit too tomato-y. The Dal was somewhat unique and not as creamy as it is at some places, which was good. Spice levels were also more elevated than most places, which was great for us. We didn't ask for that, but maybe they just guessed right. The naan was probably the main thing which I thought wasn't great... Not crispy and also small portion.
