Rascals Public House - Review - Bellevue - Seattle - The Infatuation

"This Bellevue restaurant and bar is a self-proclaimed “underground oasis” with a massive, shrubbery-filled dining room, a loose Sasquatch theme, and more than one turf-covered garden gnome dressed in human clothes. But nothing quite distracts from the boring food, including sad takes on basics like mac n cheese and fried chicken. This place could come in handy for groups that want to just spread out and have a few drinks—there are plenty of open tables, plus a little library lounge. But for enjoyable dishes, look elsewhere in the neighborhood. Food Rundown photo credit: Kayla Sager-Riley Six-Cheese Shells & Cheese Despite having six cheeses, this dish is watery, bland, and not even all that cheesy. It’s barely a step up from what you might find on kids' menus. photo credit: Kayla Sager-Riley Nashville Hot Honey This stringy chicken breast is covered by an unappealing, messy heap of coleslaw. It comes with very tasty seasoned fries, though—order those on their own. photo credit: Kayla Sager-Riley Rascals Fried Chicken Overcooked, undersalted, and dripping with oil. Plus, the pieces come served on a bed of raw spinach that immediately wilts. photo credit: Kayla Sager-Riley Caesar Salad This is a perfectly fine caesar salad with a lot of grated parmesan cheese that we could have used sprinkled on the six cheese shells." - Kayla Sager-Riley

Seattle’s Hottest New Bars, Winter 2025

"Bellevue’s gone through tons of changes in recent years, including the addition of some genuinely cool bars — Rascal’s Public House being the latest. And don’t let the spacious exterior fool you. Sitting just below street level, Rascal’s is comfy and unpretentious, with a chicken-centric pub food menu (Nashville hot fans unite!) and sizeable draft list. The place is casually Sasquatch-themed too, which never hurts. The whole atmosphere is so refreshingly chill, it may just be worth making the trek over from Seattle to kick back on the couches with a cocktail." - Brianna Gunter

Google
A pretty average bar and restaurant overall. I was hoping for a more diverse menu, but the options were quite limited and it was hard to find something appealing. I ended up ordering a salad, which was just okay. The watermelon cocktail was a bit too sweet for my taste. On the positive side, the decor is nice and creates a pleasant atmosphere. Service was decent, though it could have been more attentive. They seemed a bit disinterested.

My fiancé & I always have an incredible time when we’re here. The staff are friendly & personable with quick service. And the food is next level! Whether you come here for brunch or dinner, you’ll be more than happy. My personal favorites are Eggs in Purgatory or the Dutch Baby for brunch & the Chicken Parmesan for dinner. An absolute must try!

Google
Very unassuming spot. Steps lead down into the restaurant, there is an elevator if needed. Place is a vibe. Large screen TV for watching the game and a variety of comfortable seating. Ordered buffalo chicken dip and elote ribs from the happy hour menu. Pass on the elote - super small portion for $8. Buffalo chicken dip had a great flavor but they don’t give you enough celery or pita bread for dipping. Very small draft beer menu but a decent selection of cocktails.

We really enjoyed this hidden gem in Bellevue, the vibe is perfection, the food is incredible and the drinks are top notch. If you're in the area, or even if you're not, make a point of visiting Rascals Public House, you'll love it, I promise! We had brunch on a Saturday morning and the hash and eggs Benedict were delicious. We had a pineapple mimosa and a cranberry mimosa which were just right. She even brought us out a sample of the posole which we"ll definitely be back to order full size. 10/10 will definitely be back!

I can’t believe I waited so long to come here! The food was amazing, service exceptional, clean, and designed gorgeously. We were the first of a few couples that came in before 6pm on a Saturday (which shocked me because I love this place now, where is everyone else eating?) so lots of seating options. The food took as long as expected, and came out hot and perfectly presented. ❤️We got a margarita, a non-alcoholic drink, The Cut, the Rascally Bird, and 2 Cookies for $70 before tip. I feel the prices were great considering the quality of the food and service. 🧡THE FRIES ARE AMAZING!! Will definitely be returning for at the very least drinks and fries on a night out. 💛My partner and I walked from home so I can’t say anything for parking. 💛Looks to be accessible!! An elevator at the top of the tall staircase leading into the restaurant for folks who need it. Details from my photo captions: The Berry Margarita and non-alcoholic Jalapeño Watermelon cocktail. Margarita was good, the other drink did not get finished. Wasn’t my partners thing! The plates made the dishes look cool for sure, but make it hard to keep crumbs on the plate, I feel like I made a mess lol. $19 Rascally Bird, ordered without tomatoes and with the Rascally sauce on the side. A good amount of turkey meat and super thick slices of bacon! Had to take half the sandwich home. $2 for one Cookie. Can tell they’re baked fresh to order because they took a few minutes to come out and the inside was verrrrrry gooey. Loved them.

Google
We had a great time here - the food was quick, they easily modified things for our needs (no dairy for one of our group, no gluten for another) Our server (aka owner) was wonderful, friendly and attentive. The menu is diverse and if you want brunch- this is the spot. Comfy, spacious and chill, just what we were looking for. A hidden Gem you need to visit.

Google
Service was below average, but the food was above average. We had burgers and they were delicious and the fries were great. Price is a little high, but worth it for a late night meal. We probably won’t go again but we don’t regret going either. Also the water cups are tiny so be prepared to get multiple refills.

Google
Service was great, food was lacking, atmosphere was cool. Everyone in the party ate their food but we were all disappointed. Salmon was beyond dry, philly was mostly hard bread, tacos were bland and not much meat. Those that ordered burgers said they were the better choice. I wouldn’t recommend due to food quality. I see why it was pretty dead on a Saturday night.

Yelp
I've been a regular at Rascals for over a year now and I can confidently say: this place is a must-visit. Whether you're here for the sports game of the night, the killer fried chicken, or just the all-around good vibes, Rascals delivers every time. From the moment you step inside, the atmosphere is instantly welcoming. It's downstairs and always refreshingly cool, with a vibrant, eclectic decor that makes you want to stay awhile--think plant-sculpted bears, seasonal plague doctor outfits (yes, really), whimsical maps, cozy bookshelves, and even a dinosaur perched above the bar. It's fun, funky, and totally dopamine-boosting. Shoutout to Carrie, the incredibly kind and delightfully quirky owner, for curating such a joyful space. Let's talk food and drinks -- because that's what will keep you coming back. The fried chicken? Easily some of the best in the area. Crispy, juicy, and full of flavor. Try the new Chicken Tender meal with two sides (pro tip: get the mashed potatoes and gravy). If you're into heat, the Nashville Hot Honey Sandwich is a spicy, satisfying twist on a classic. Thirsty? Their drink selection has something for everyone. I'm a big fan of the Tieton Hard Apple Cider, while my best friend swears by the house Rascals Lager. And if you visit for brunch, do not skip the Bloody Mary with Dr. Vodka -- Carrie infuses the vodka herself, and it's so flavorful and smooth. I've actually ordered shots of it on its own (and I'm usually not a shot person!). During brunch, they even play cartoons on the projector, adding a fun, cozy vibe that's hard to beat. Into sports or trivia? Rascals has you covered there too. Catch the latest Seattle game on their projector screen, or join in on Trivia Mondays -- with prizes for the top 3 teams and $4 canned beers, it's the perfect start to your week. And yes, the portion sizes are generous, so you'll likely leave with leftovers for a second round at home. Rascals Public House is the kind of place that turns first-time visitors into regulars. Between the friendly staff, delicious food, creative drinks, and vibrant energy, it's more than just a bar or restaurant--it's a feel-good hangout you'll want to return to again and again. Special shoutouts to Ginger, Brandon, Jung, Ernie, and obviously Carrie! Thanks for curating such a great space! Trust me: go check out Rascals. You're going to love it!

Yelp
The food was AMAZING! The staff were super friendly and engaging. Loved the atmosphere there, I highly recommend everyone stop by Bellevue to check this place out!

Yelp
I really hadn't considered visiting Rascal's as I'm more of a foodie than a drinker. However, decided on a whim to stop in on a Saturday morning to check out the brunch scene. We were warmly greeted at the door and invited in. While walking us to our table, the owner who was seating us offered us a $4 mimosa. How could we say no, so she presented us with a few non-standard options like watermelon (and I can't remember the other types, my bad!). It turns out that it's their new brunch special, so if you accept the mimosa on the way in, it's $4, where the regular price is $10 -- definitely good to keep in mind if you're visiting during weekend brunch! When it came down to the food, I ordered the fried bologna sandwich while my husband had the tom tom benedict (green and red tomatoes). Both were quite good -- I loved the twist on the ol' bologna sandwich, though I the tom tom bene was prob our fave. Anyhow, I was suprised at how much we liked the food from this tavern, and I'll definitely include it as an option from now on, when we're coming up with places to visit. Highly recommend this place. It's relatively new, it's quite sizable, and the owners are just lovely. I do hope that more people find out about this gem and visit!

Yelp
What a great oasis in the concrete jungle of Bellevue. You enter through an inconspicuous door on the side of the building near where Purple was located. This Sasquatch hideaway has an almost tropical feel. As you walk down the steps you leave the hustle and bustle of outside and enter a new world. They have a great bar, a good selection of beer and the food is truly unique. Somewhat of a Southern fusion. I was there for lunch and had a sort of chicken club with literally the best French fries ever. They were crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside and seasoned just right. My sandwich was delicious. I would really give this place a try. Great for happy hour too!

Yelp
Bellevue needed Rascals! It feels like a modern pub with elevated food. We stopped by in happy hour and the deals were fantastic. I loved the elote ribs and the chicken & fries, which came with 2 drumsticks and fries. The starter caesar was a nice size. Ask for the chicken with a side of buffalo sauce! I think this is one of the best happy hours in Bellevue, so definitely stop by and give them a try!

Yelp
Stopped by on a Monday to celebrate a promo at work. There were only 2 other couples in the spot when we walked in, so they told us to sit anywhere we'd like. They have a lounge area, high tops, regular tables, and a bar top. We chose a regular table. Cool decor in the space as well. I've walked by this place a lot and noted in the past they have a projector with screen, but on this day the screen was up. Probably because there were no games on. They do have TVs above the bar, which were showing old fail army clips lol The food and drinks were good. I settled on their cucumber elderflower, it's a gin and tonic with elderflower tonic. It was fine, not sure it's worth $20, but cest la vie. The fried bologna sandwich was good! Needs something vinegary imo to cut all the fat from the bologna and cheese. Maybe a pickle? But it was good and good as leftovers the next day! Loved their fries, they're crispy and flavorful. I'd stick to the ketchup next time, the ranch was a bit watery imo. Would definitely come back for happy hour, or to watch a game when they have the viewing parties! Happy to have them in the neighborhood. And excited to see their brunch offerings when they add that.

Yelp
I normally find a hangout spot every time I travel. I've been here quite a few times, tried a handful of things, and this is what you need to get when you come here. THE WINGS. I've brought people here for the wings specifically (and a bevy) and they have given the same response. Order the wings, ask for the little laminated card that has all the sauces, Get whatever one you like, get it tossed (its still crispy) or sauce on the side, and it will not disappoint. If it does, you probably only eat boneless wings. The drinks are pretty good. Relatively mid priced. The service is pretty good too, everyone's very nice. Kind of cool vibe - plenty of places to sit. Although, they do have like this "funniest home video" type stuff playing on the TVs quite a lot. If they had any kind of sports game on, I'd be spending more time there.

Yelp
New Bellevue spot! Just around the corner from the old Purple on NE 4th... we loved the vibe as we entered and descended down the stairs. Nice ambience with wood paneled walls and greenery, with a "living room" in the center. Nice TVs throughout for sports watching if desired. The cocktails were well crafted and food very solid. We enjoyed the Buffalo chicken dip (Yum) and Philly Cheesesteak, which was outstanding. Rascals is new and I hope they stick... it was VERY empty on Saturday night - they need to get the word out! PSA to owner who controls the music but wasn't on site - the oldies playlist was NOT the vibe... doesn't match the ambience or Bellevue scene. Here's hoping for better tunes when we return.

Yelp
We were super excited to see Rascals opening in the old Cast Iron Studios space. It had been vacant for so long and downtown Bellevue could use another casual restaurant with solid food. Unfortunately, we didn't have a great experience. The space is awesome and feels like an elevated pub. Service was great and we even got to speak with the owner, but the food really fell flat for us. The fried chicken was extremely dry and under seasoned. Like, it had no flavor whatsoever. The breading was quite thick and the chicken itself kind of tasted freezer burned. The sauce on the Mac and cheese had an odd texture, but an ok flavor. The fries were great (gotta love that double batter), but our burgers were pretty meh and bland. Our requested medium patties were definitely a bit over. Overall, we had high hopes, but the food really missed the mark. Hoping they just need to smooth things out and produce consistent food.

Yelp
Cold January Sunday night, on our way back from FOB Sushi bar when we stumbled upon a below-street level pub playing Sunday Night Football on the big screen projector. We figured this was a newer establishment as we had not come across it before. Looking to get out of the cold, we were welcomed in to a warm, but quiet ambience. The steps down into the pub from the street were well decorated with lots of nice added touches. We were confused on the exact theme of the pub, but decided on it being a Latin/Caribbean inspired modern taphouse with a hint of sport. We appreciated how the interior was thoughtful and for a Sunday night the quiet theme felt appropriate. We wish we were not participating in Dry January, as the specialty cocktails sounded and looked delicious. Our server recommended the Peach & Gingerbeer mocktail which was fantastic. ($12) We opted for the Poutine appetizer and were surprised by how flavorful the seasoned fries were with the gravy. The melted Oaxacan cheese on the fries were a nice savory touch. ($15) For an upscale, modern public house on the corner of a busy main street, we thought we found a hidden gem. We'll definitely be back and recommend our friends and family to give Rascals a chance for special occasions. Taste: 5/5 (drinks & appetizer) Price: 4/5 (this is typical downtown Bellevue pricing) Wow Factor: 4.5/5 (speakeasy vibes, but in a large, high ceiling'd modern space)

Yelp
I tend to only sporadically review business. But I just got done with a late lunch at Rascal's Public House. It's a really cool venue with great staff and excellent food. Don't sleep on the wings. I got mine extra crispy with sauce on the side and it reminded me of really fantastic southern fried chicken. The tri-tip cheesesteak was also excellent, and the fries were perfect. One would think that fries would be easy, but I've had plenty that were just meh. Rascal's fries are amazing. Lastly, the beer was really good as well. I had the Rascal's Lager. Just hoppy enough to be tasty without being overwhelming. Anyway, Rascal's is a brand-new place and they're really starting off right, it seems to me. Great place!

Yelp
My team and I visited the place to grab dinner and drinks. The waitress was extremely rude when few us brought in boba from near by place. She asked those who had the drink to leave the premise so we had to finish the drink outside at 8pm. She said that it was the state law but when I pulled up the law on my phone and asked her she brushed it off. The service for the rest of the night was awful. I saw good reviews and wanted to host my team there. Wouldn't return again.

Yelp
The food was amazing . We got the artichoke flatbread and the rascal burger - both amazing and the burger was loaded with meat my husband loved it. Also had a chill atmosphere with sports. We will definitely be going back.

Yelp
Great addition to Bellevue! The owner is awesome & staff is just as great! Food is great! Drinks even better!!!! Planning on stopping by for a sat/sun brunch!

Stephen C.

Yelp
Great food! Great service! Great atmosphere! Highly recommended making a stop to Rascal Public House.

Beth J.

Yelp
This place was great. We went for Happy Hour and found everything we wanted for a reasonable price. The servings are all large enough to share, and were all delicious. We decided on southern fare, and were not disappointed. Best appetizer: Merry Mushrooms! Simply prepared, amazing flavor. Our server, Ginger, was great. We could've stayed all day, sampling the menu. Will def be back!

Yelp
The food here could gag a maggot. We sent all four entrees back after the horrible appetizers and drinks ... I just wasn't going to continue to financially invest and waste my money any longer. Super disappointed because we were trying to show an out of town guest a Bellevue culinary experience. This place has got to definitely lead with a better foot forward. It's just all around bad...
google avatar

Yelp
Friendly staff & fantastic food! You MUST try the pork chop or fried chicken and get a side of the brown gravy to dip it in. You'll thank me later. Finish off the meal with their in-house cheesecake or toasted coconut & pineapple ice cream. I can't wait to make this my regular watering hole

Annie A.

Yelp
Omg the best chicken wings in the NW!!! These were a cut above the rest. Too bad I didn't get a picture because I was too busy eating them. Love the location and the food is great. Must try if you are in Bellevue.
google avatar

Laura S.

Yelp
This place is a vibe! The staff is excellent. We enjoy the food and the dynamic menu, which continues to adapt to the customer base. The seating is comfortable, and the decor is fun and thoughtful. Not only do the decorations change with the season/holidays, but the more permanent decorations also get a makeover from time to time. Compared to the rest of the area, they're open late (including their kitchen), so if you're working late or looking for a late-night bite to eat, definitely check this place out!
google avatar

Liv H.

Yelp
Food, service and ambiance were amazing! Super good fried chicken. I can't wait to come back here!

Travis G.

Yelp
This place will not be open long. The positive comments on this place are bots. Here is a real review. 7:00pm on a Friday. Place is empty. I asked the bartender/ waiter what he would recommend. He couldn't give me an answer. I ordered the jalepeno poppers and chicken bacon wrap. 40 minutes pass. He then tells me "sorry for the wait, that party of 6 over there has been keeping us busy"... only people in the building which could seat easily 300. Both of my orders were horrible. This place is a joke and I would not waste your time or money. In summary; This place will not be open long. *Hey owner, waiting for some snippy, arrogant response like you've shown to previous dissatisfied customers. Go ahead I'm all ears! *

Kim W.

Yelp
Fun new restaurant in Bellevue! Service was perfectly attentive and welcoming. Casual and comfortable location with diverse Happy Hour menu so you don't have to spend a fortune to have a great time. Enjoyed the Mac and cheese with fried chicken! Will be back when back in town!

Constance A.

Yelp
Nice new spot in downtown Bellevue with great vibes and lots of seating for groups. The food is very mid and if they reduced their menu and focused on quality of the food they would be a solid 5 for me. The service from staff was great and the music was awesome. Just wish the menu was worked in a way that they had perfected 10 items instead of having 30+ items. Simple is hard the perfect. A great spot I know that can improve.
google avatar

Eric S.

Yelp
I had the opportunity to stop by on a satuday night to checkthe place out (it being new to the Bellevue restaurant scene). Nice, relaxed and inviteing setting. The wait staff was helpful in guiding us through the menu. Drinks we unique and fun. The food was great - highly recommend the Stewart burger! I'll be back for sure!

Chris P.

Yelp
Food was good, not great. The cocktails weren't well crafted so I'm thinking the bartender was a novice. The service was pleasant, but also seemed like they didn't want to be there. The St. Patty's Day decor still up 2 weeks after the holiday makes it seem like the owners are lazy.
google avatar

Brandy M.

Yelp
Great location, parking underneath that they cover, (so don't prepay for it like I did lol). Interior is cool, funky, open, low top & high top tables, and a comfrey eating area. The service was great and speedy, we didn't have to wait on anything. The food however is just ok. Their poutine definitely needs some love, hardly any cheese, fries needed to be crispier and the gravy was salty. Overall a decent place, just need to amp up their food a little.
google avatar

Jake B.

Yelp
This place should be your next watering hole. Right when you walk, you're met with a great view of the entire restaurant and see all the potential for your night right in front of you. If you're stoping in for just a drink, the bar has what feels like endless choices of craft beers, industry staples, and delicious cocktails coming in all shapes and sizes. BUT. The thing that makes this place special is the food. Even just their fried chicken makes any trip worth it. The food they serve feels like it's coming from a mothers kitchen, simple yet elegant and will not leave you unsatisfied. It's a place that makes you want to get together with your favorite people and forget about the world outside for a little. If your ever in Bell Square it's just a short walk to 4th street and once you get through that door and down the stairs you don't have to worry about a thing.

Molly S.

Yelp
Great new addition to downtown Bellevue. We were super curious & ordered more than we could eat. Portions are large. We had salads, macaroni croquettes & burgers.... All delicious. Owner is lovely, super invested in making sure the experience is great. Bartenders are experienced & on it with service. We had Torey, so warm & friendly. I would feel comfortable going there on my own too. Vibe is fun, music & dimmed lighting, very comfortable for good business conversation or a first date!

Karen R.

Yelp
The ambience and setting of the restaurant is outstanding! We had an amazing dinner and the food portions are very generous. The service was excellent and we will definitely go back again !

King E.

Yelp
The space is interesting, it's got a vibe. Food is average ($15 for one corn cob, lol), drinks are okay (but arbitrary price-points for top shelf) , servers are nice. If it's still around in a year, will give it another shot.

Michael B.

Yelp
Rarely review but have been twice in the past week and had great experiences both times. Has been pretty slow both times so hoping the word gets out as we have enjoyed this spot - the fried chicken and buffalo chicken dip were the standouts in my visits so far!
