Yelp
I was excited to try this restaurant based on all the stellar reviews, but from the minute we were seated, the experience was rather disappointing. I wanted to love this place - but could not.
The Good:
- We dined on a Sunday night (without reservations) and were seated immediately.
- The artichoke hearts with an almond paste filling were divine.
- Mozzerella dish - excellent.
- Everything is fresh and nicely presented.
- Apple crumble dish was made to order and arrived piping hot and tasty (though took 30 minutes to get to our table after ordering it)
- no children in the restaurant (this is important for those who dislike dining around children who are permitted to scream and cry in restaurants)
The Bad:
- Took about ten minutes to even get menus, and that was only after I asked for them
- The menu/concept was never explained to us even after we asked about the size of the dishes and ordered what we thought were starters and main courses and then asked if we ordered too much - It seems the concept is all small dishes, no starters or mains (I think? I am still unsure about this).
- There seem to be ground nuts in just about every dish, even the apple crumble. nothing against nuts, I like them, but it just got overwhelming,. Maybe we ordered the wrong things.
The Ugly:
- My concept of a baked egg is something totally different than what I received here. What arrived was a little baking dish filled to the brim with runny white cheese that filled the table with the stench of feet, topped with a barely cooked egg. I despise runny eggs in the first place, but I think this one even had whites that weren't fully cooked. I could be wrong, because the cheese was white and runny too. I tasted the cheese at least, and guess what? It tasted like feet. We actually had the server take the dish away because we were gagging on the smell. The table near us seemed to enjoy this little dish when they got it though, eating it with bread.
- The kitchen is very. very. slow. Be prepared to wait a long time for your small plates of food to come out one by one. When we left, I noted that, in a completely full restaurant, not one table had any plates with food on them. The entire restaurant was waiting for food at (we left at 11pm on Sunday night)
- I went home and ate a snack because I'd left the restaurant hungry.
