How to Taste Phuket Food in Thailand

"Raya is a beloved favorite in a pale yellow 1909 Sino-Portuguese house, offering dishes like crabmeat curry in coconut milk, fried shrimp in tamarind sauce, roast duck curry, and steamed pork with pepper and garlic." - Sharon McDonnell

Phuket, Thailand, Dining Guide to the Food & Drink Scene - Eater

"Muu hawng: Fist-sized chunks of fatty pork belly braised in soy sauce, garlic, and a large amount of crushed black pepper make up one of Phuket Town’s most famous dishes and a prime example of Baba-style cooking. The version served at Raya Restaurant is a great introduction." - Austin Bush

Penang curry was so insane—definitely the best we ate in Thailand. The sauce was thick and the flavour was so dynamic!! The pad Thai was also amazing and tasted extremely fresh. The noodles and sauce, thankfully, was not as bitter as other restaurants.

Delicious food and even better service. Our friend was sick and they brought us with fever patch and some medicinal balm. Omg who does that if it isn’t fine dining! So kind of them… As for the food, each dish was delicious & reasonably priced. Lots of Thais in the shop too so it’s obvious that this is a good store.

Food is only above average and doesn’t quite justify the prices. Crab curry and spicy mango salad were pretty good. They also gave a complimentary sliced mango :) Their service is exemplary. I told my waitress I had food allergies, and when she brought something I ordered and noticed it had nuts, she immediately sent it back to be made without, just in case, without me asking her to!

There is a reason why they have not got any Michelin bib in recent times. Food is bland, service is bad and overall a full atmosphere. The squid I got was severely undercooked. Told the waitress and they took it to heat it up a little more just for me to find they were still undercooked. When I complained again they had bad attitude. I hope I don’t get food poisoning with this. On top of this they are expensive.

High quality food, professional staff, atmosphere was chill, there were lots of families just having their lunch here. Lots of traditional Thai meals. Mango salad was amazing, fried tiger prawns too.

Very nice and authentic Thai restaurant. Michelin star several years. Super fast service. Everyone is extremely attentive and polite. There was a queue to get in but it moved quick. Traditional colonial house converted to a restaurant in Old Town. Prices are generally competitive but depends what you order. Must try when in Phuket, don’t miss it.

It was a great experience. I ordered the Stir-Fried Tiger Prawn with Chili and Salt, Paneang Curry with Chicken, and steamed rice. The food was absolutely delicious, full of authentic Thai flavors. The place itself is cozy, with a unique charm that makes you feel at home. One thing to keep in mind is to point to the photos on the menu when ordering, just to make sure you get exactly what you want. The staff were friendly and attentive, and they even brought out a complimentary mango dish at the end, which was a nice surprise. This restaurant has earned MICHELIN stars several times, which is a testament to its quality. It's a perfect spot for families or friends so can order a few dishes to share and try more of their menu. Definitely worth visiting if you're in Phuket!
