The Best Bars in Dallas

"This bar, opened last year by Portland natives Lauren and Ryan Victor (with chef Joshua Harmon doing the food), has quickly become a favorite. The funky cocktails change seasonally, and include everything from the import of the first Portland coffee, a flaming drink that is worth the drama of the bar side presentation, and whimsical options garnished with Apples to Apples game cards. The cacio e pepe martini is a must-try — the Parmesan-washed drink will surprise. The vibe in here is ‘90s dive bar, with decor from flashing pinball machines and thrifted paintings. Parking is free on the street but if you can’t find anything, there’s a paid lot around back." - Courtney E. Smith, Kevin Gray

Celebrate Valentine’s at Rayo in Dallas — Whether You’re in Love or Not - Eater Dallas

"Rayo is a cocktail bar owned by Ryan and Lauren Victor, with a menu curated by chef Joshua Harmon. It offers a unique bar menu that taps into childhood favorites, recreating fast food burgers like the McFib with a tofu slab. The interiors are painted black, resembling a '90s dive bar, and it's designed for large groups to mingle. Rayo is especially appealing for those seeking a fun, non-traditional Valentine's Day experience with a special tasting menu." - Courtney E. Smith

The 15 Hottest Restaurants in Dallas, January 2025

"Oh hey, were you in need of a bite after hanging out way past your bedtime? Head to this spot with a menu from chef Josh Harmon. The menu is built around a group of sliders that are meant to evoke the vibe of fast food burgers. Our favorite was the McFib — a take on the McRib that replaces the meat with tofu and somehow still lovingly captures the exact texture of that McDonald’s fave." - Courtney E. Smith

This is a fun and great addition to the neighborhood. Our bartender was super friendly; the decor was cool, food was delicious and cocktails were great. My only knock is that it was pretty empty for a long stretch of time but hopefully it will gain steam as word gets out.

We stopped here for drinks and food before a musical at fair park, and let’s just say this will be our dinner and drinks stop before shows from now on. The drinks were craftily made and delicious, and the sliders were so tasty (we tried the chicken katsu one and the lamb and feta one). Those fries tho. The smoked ketchup and garlic mayo had the two of us finishing the entire large serving of fries with no regrets. The bartender told us they were the best fries in town, and I can’t argue. This place is definitely worth a visit whether you’re near Fair Park or on the complete opposite side of town and know what’s good.

We had an awesome experience at Rayo Bar & Lounge! The cocktails were fantastic--especially the margarita and the Cacio e Pepe martini - a Parmesan fat-washed gin martini. Super creative and delicious. We also tried a few of their sliders and I can't stop thinking about them. The Filet o Fish, Baby Katsu, and McFib were all so unique and full of flavor--definitely not your typical bar food. You can tell a lot of care goes into what they're serving here. They've got a great mezcal selection too, and Lauren behind the bar was the sweetest. She let us sample a few different spirits and was super knowledgeable and friendly the whole time. If you're heading to Dos Equis Arena or the State Fairgrounds, definitely add Rayo to your list. We're already planning to come back with friends. Total hidden gem!

Got a quick little sip after the Pride festivities across the street at Fair park. Enjoyed a “Part Time Snack” with bartender Noah and a quick chat with Lauren and Ryan. 🤗

I love this neighborhood bar and I don’t even live in the neighborhood! My friends & I went here after an event in Fair Park and were not disappointed. The service was excellent, great music and the food was unexpectedly delicious. Highly recommend the Katsu, Royale or Filet O’ Fish. Overall cool , welcoming & lowkey vibes that make for the perfect 3rd space.

The food is amazing, something for everyone, vegans, vegetarians, pescatarian, and the meat eaters. It's perfect for a neighborhood bar and is also perfect for eating or drinking before or after performances or events that are in the Fair Park/Exposition Park neighborhood, especially if you are attending The Ochre House Theater. It's also a hop skip & a jump from Deep Ellum & central downtown. The food & beverage menus are very eclectic but not pretentious or over priced. The staff are wonderful and work very hard, especially the owners who are there in the trenches so to speak to make sure their guests are taken care of. I live in the neighborhood & all of us here have been so happy to have RAYO. It is our new sanctuary! We are looking forward to watching them grow. This place really is special, come out & experience it yourself.

Google
Good food and cocktails. I think one of the bartenders was training the night we went because we received incorrect drinks and there was confusion about the tabs. The other bartender was great and helped pick up the slack. Otherwise a good experience and overall laid back vibe. There are no TVs so don’t expect to watch any games here.

Yelp
A cocktail connoisseurs dream. The unique twists bring a new curiosity to the entire menu that's worth exploring. The top highlights are the garlic aoli on the fries, the quail egg on the royal and the caviar on the fish sando. The vibe is relaxed and definitely reads as your humble local neighborhood bar.

Yelp
While looking for a bite and a drink before heading to Fair Park for a show some friends had heard about and suggested RAYO and I am happy to report it slaps on every single level. Walk in and make your way to the bar to place your order (re: that is both drinks and food). They not only have a full bar but also a great selection of craft and local beers. I kicked things off with an IPA and we placed our food orders. This place has a kitchen that is rockin' and has several vegetarian options that are not your standard veggie food. I couldn't decide so I ordered too much: Tofu Ruben, The McFib, and a side of fries "for the table" but lets be real-I ate almost all of them. After a brief wait my order came out and everything was fresh and steaming hot. I enjoyed everything I had to eat but no lies, their McFib was the star of the show and next time I'm going to order two or three of those suckers (side note: sliders come out as a single item per order). Service was great! The bartenders were very knowledgeable and happy to offer up suggestions and you can tell by the quality that the kitchen takes pride in what it does. Bonus was how great the place was decorated, we went mid-Dec and the whole place was decked out in festive holiday garb. Parking is mostly street parking or paid lots, that is: no private parking lot that I am aware of and the location being directly across from Fair Park means that from here on out this will be our go-to spot to grab a drink and dinner before heading to see any of the shows at the Music Hall at Fair Park. Cheers and see ya again real soon.

Yelp
The patio in front of the bar is a great place to hang out this time of year! We had so much fun, great crowd that hangs out there too!

Yelp
Came in because I need to use the restroom and grab some fries, boy was I surprised! Started with the fries and as I read the slim menu I decided to grab a Caesar salad as well. The salad arrived and I was very delighted with the fresh finely shredded cheese and grilled lemons. As I tasted the salad, I was taken back by the flavor! There were hints of a seafood and pepper a perfect combination and balance. The fries were seasoned with fried seaweed, trust me it works! The service was excellent! The bartender was very friendly and polite. I was even able to meet the chef! The ambience was pleasantly pleasing and the music was not overwhelming. Overall 10!

Yelp
I've only had the food here, but next time I'll be back for drinks! Their sliders were incredible. Had the lamb and fish slider and they were phenomenal. Very casual dining spot with friendly staff. A friend had the Caesar and said it was super tasty (they use a miso Caesar dressing). Will definitely be back for other things!

Yelp
They just started serving lunch at Rayo's and I was excited as I live 2 blocks away... But then I was so disappointed in the quality of the food. These fish and chips were a joke. Dry, burnt, barely any fish and $13.00!! Omg the worst. Also how do you serve lunch w/o Iced Tea ‍

Yelp
I wish I had something to review. Walked in stood at the door and finally had to ask if we seated ourselves. Got a menu and waited at the bar and never was acknowledged. Too many restaurants in Dallas, and I will not try to go again. Went to Las Almas next door and got great service.

Yelp
Went here after a day at the fair to get a drink and a bite to eat with a coworker- didn't know I was walking into one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Ryan was friendly- thanks for the recommendation on getting the fries! Shout out to the chef for the meal. I got the baby katsu slider. Gotta come back to try more stuff.

Very friendly service and delicious food and cocktails. Will definitely be back and bringing friends. It's our office's lunch and Happy Hour spot.
