Ray's - Review - West LA - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Tucked away in West LA is Ray’s, a bright red take-out window that serves hearty American fare, plus some Japanese and Mexican dishes thrown in the mix. This daytime spot sees a morning and lunchtime rush of people picking up burgers, breakfast burritos, and egg sandwiches stuffed with three types of cheese, but the specialty here is the chicken teriyaki. For under $15, you get a very large portion of chicken and grilled vegetables over rice drenched in a not-too-sweet teriyaki sauce (which we like). It’s good but probably not something worth telling your whole office about in a mass email––unless, that is, your coworkers need a quick, affordable lunch option." - Sylvio Martins

Stopped in to this to-go burger spot for my first time and really enjoyed it. They have a large menu and portions. Service was quick, everything that we ordered was cooked well and had some great flavor. Parking can be tricky in this part of town depending on the time, but I was able to find street parking one block away. Everything that we ordered came out really fast and pricing is fair. This is not a sit down and eat kind of place, it is designed for to go, which is what I chose to do for this first visit. I chose the Patty Melt and added avocado because it’s filled with cheese and large patties. It had some great seasoning on the meat and the bread was perfectly toasted. The french fries on the side weren’t my favorite but still enjoyable. I would recommend and visit again in the future to try different items.

Google
Absolutely delicious. Friendly service. They use beef tallow for their fries. 👍One of the best in West LA.

Google
Great service! Great food! So delicious and quick! The gentleman at the counter is courteous and kind. Cheese steak sandwich and tuna melt on point! Easy order, easy parking. Best place on this block 405 & Santa Monica Blvd. Great place for a late lunch.

Google
I like this place and I would go back. But if I did I would try something else, like the teriyaki. As others have stated in other reviews. The cheese steak sandwich could use some seasoning. I drove around the corner to the 7/11 to buy salt and pepper to put on the sandwich. But I will say that the ingredients in and on the sub were really good and tested fresh.

Google
Love the teriyaki (spicy, with grilled onions). The meat was really flavorful and I was enjoying it despite wondering where the spice was. Then I tried what likely are shredded yellow chili peppers (pictured in the upper left corner of the meat) - sinus clearing! Really great food and the perfect heat level with the peppers (if in the mood). Salad dressing not pictured but a great complement to the beef teriyaki. The grilled vegetables are a wonderful alternative to salad too. Looking forward to trying everything on the menu!

Google
It was definitely good. not an average spot . I spent about 20 for this meal

Google
Me and Ray go way back. He’s the only one that I’ll travel to if I’m craving a burger I’ll go to. I get the teriyaki burger with avocado and they just know how to make it. Ray knows me by my first name because I used to work across the street from him I need him to open multiple locations.

Google
Honestly the chicken teriyaki might be the best takeout lunch in LA. It's huge and reasonably priced. French fries are also amazing, super crispy hot and salty. Aguas frescas are fresh and delicious too.

Yelp
I ordered the Breakfast Burrito for pickup and they had it ready in no time! Tortilla is really good, can tell it's hand made. The peppers and avocado were great with the burrito as well! The person taking our order was very nice and there are seats outside where you can sit and enjoy your food :) Probably one of my favorite breakfast burritos near UCLA. 10/10 will be coming back again! fyi: They take card and cash but prefer cash. If your order is less than $20 there is a $0.50 surcharge for card.

Yelp

Yelp
Amazing food! Great service! I enjoy the small dinner feeling. I highly recommend coming for breakfast

Yelp
Came to Rays for lunch and decided to get their tater tots supreme. Let me start off by saying I heard nothing but great things about Rays. The tots though were ehh. Huge let down, especially since many people were raving about this place. I give the tots a 4/10. They were fried a little too long the mayo was overpowered by the amount of cheese n them. They were really nothing special. Now that doesn't mean I won't be back to try other menu items and update my review. Plenty of seating outside expect to wait around 5-10 minutes for your food.

Yelp
The burgers are very tasty and the patty melt. Their passion fruit (Maracuya) is very tasty too.

Yelp
I ordered the pastrami, egg, and cheese melt. I requested for no cheese in my sandwich. The order was made fresh and super quick! I really enjoyed the sandwich. It is a shareable size as well! I'm not sure how this spot is usually with the crowd throughout the day since I stopped by when they first opened. There wasn't a line at the time. The shop/stall offers a to-go or dine in option. If you opt to dine-in, they have a couple seats right outside the stall.

Yelp
Came and grabbed 8 breakfast burritos and OOHHH MY GGOODDNESSS haven't had a bomb ass sausage breakfast burrito in a long time and I'm glad I stopped by this place the sausage veggies eggs and onions killed it

Yelp
I ordered through GrubHub and came here to pick it up. It's a small shack with a walk up ordering window and a few seats along their building. Staff were friendly and they were quick with my order. I ordered the supreme tuna sandwich. It was a really hefty sized sandwich filled with tuna, cheese, avocado, grilled onions, and tomatoes. It was delicious, although next time I will get it without the grilled onions. It added too much sweetness and took away from the tuna for me personally. But still great. I would come here again to get it, or try one of the many other items they have on their huge menu.

Yelp
It's pretty cool that I only live a few blocks away from this place. The first time I came here it took a good amount of time for my food to be ready but I guess that's how you know it's made to order. It's pretty much a stand you walk up to and then there's some outdoor seating. This recent time I went I called ahead to put an order in. By the time I got there it was ready so I'll probably do this moving forward. I got the cheesesteak which was really good and I'll probably keep trying different things on the menu.

Yelp
Awesome hole in the wall place. The food is outstanding!! The loaded fries are delicious.

Yelp
The food was so delicious! I wish we lived near there so we could go more often. We stopped on the way home from LAX. Totally recommend it.

Yelp
Ordered the chicken teriyaki for lunch which was very good. It came with rice and veggies and was covered in sauce. Portion was big enough that I was able to save half for dinner. I initially tried to order online but the order didn't go through so I went and ordered at the window around noon and it was about a 20 min wait due to the lunch rush. I would recommend this spot if you're in the mood for chicken teriyaki and only want to spend about $15.

Yoonho K.

Yelp
Amazing burgers and tater tots. I visited on a weekday lunch and saw a line for the takeout. The wait was not that long and it was definitely worth it! The portion was huge even for a person like me that eats a lot. The staff were really friendly, and I'd definitely try more from their menus. Side note: orders under $20 will be charged a 50-cent transaction fee, but their burgers are totally worth it!

Yelp
Was craving a burger after we landed at LAX and on our way home and this place hit the spot!!! It was a burger stand with a lot of yummy options, I got the double bacon cheeseburger with fries and the flavors were so good, we'll cooked and seasoned, with all the fixings. Very filling portions I probably should have gotten a single but it was so delicious, hearty bacon slices and good quality fries
google avatar

Dwane S.

Yelp
Ray's is amazing!!! Burgers, breakfast burritos! Ample and so perfectly prepared! I especially love their chorizo. Breakfast burrito. It's insane!
google avatar

Darlene Y.

Yelp
Chorizo burrito was filled full of black beans, cheese, potato, avocado, onions, and chorizo but it was lacking any seasoning. They really need to season the potato and this would be a really good burrito.Bacon burrito has pepper, onion, potato, bacon. And cheese. Once again no seasoning lacking flavor. The only salsa offered was a Chipotle, I wish they had other salsa options like a green sauce. I was not impressed with the breakfast burritos, I would maybe try this place again if I was at the court house and starving and try a burger.
google avatar

Mitchell R.

Yelp
Chipotle mayo on fries supreme is a must every time I always order 2!! Love that they are made with beef tallow
google avatar

Sergio R.

Yelp
My favorite breakfast burrito in LA! The staff is friendly and my order came out quickly. The spot has a retro vibe and it has an amazing atmosphere! Would recommend this place to anyone
google avatar

Nicole D.

Yelp
Food and service was absolutely amazing. We really got our money's worth; the portions are quite large compared to other restaurants which is a huge plus. We got the patty melt with fries and the breakfast burrito which was more than enough for 2 people. There's only outdoor seating considering this is a walk-up window. They only have street parking, and it seems like most patrons take for to-go. 100% a gem!

Yelp
My parents have been singing the praises of Ray's for years. I never made the trek over while living in LA, and honestly, as a pescatarian I wasn't that sad about missing out on a meaty walk-up diner on the other side of town. After my dad raved about the breakfasts on my last visit I finally relented. My mom broke character and ordered the breakfast burrito (2 scrambled eggs, shredded jack, and cheddar and mozzarella cheese, hash browns, onions, peppers, tomato, choice of bacon, sausage or ham wrapped in flour tortilla. Served with house spicy chipotle salsa) which was beastly. We were expecting from the description that there would shredded rather than large chunks of potato in it, which made it clunky to eat. I had been considering getting one as well (sans meat) but felt even happier with my breakfast quesadilla (shredded Jack, mozzarella and cheddar, spicy chipotle mayo, 2 eggs). It was also massive and very delicious. Both were accompanied by a hot and flavorful salsa and even hotter grilled pepper. My dad always gets the Tuna Melt Supreme which had to be the biggest sandwich I've ever seen. Easy and popular retro take-away joint with some counter seating. Service was friendly and quick. Accepts cards but bring cash to tip. They deserve it!

Yelp
Amazing food and customer service!! The teriyaki/chicken plate is a must try! Oh, I can't forget about the cheeseburger and the marayuca drink as well... so gooodddd!! I been to Rays's two times this week already cause the food is da bomb!!

Vee E.

Yelp
I got the spicy teriyaki plate, beef and chicken. Flavor was good, not the best but good. Could've used more teriyaki sauce but they charge 50 cents additional. Overall, I think the food is a little overpriced.
google avatar

Ray G.

Yelp
I had the chorizo & egg burrito. It was large, tasty and very filling. I would order it again.

Yelp
Ordered online for quick pick up through yelp during lunch. Convenient and tasty warm food

Yelp
This unassuming shack on the side of the road has one of the best chicken teriyaki bowls in Los Angeles. Served fresh with white meat chicken breast, this bowl is great when paired with their fresh lemonade. Get the meal spicy and your tastebuds will thank you. Don't judge a book by its cover. Don't judge this restaurant by its appearance.

Yelp
I recently discovered this hole on the wall!! The prices are good, and they have a great selection of food, I'll definitely will be back

Yelp

Yelp
Showed up at 11:40 when there was one other patron at the resturaunt. Cashier continued to take phone orders and told us just a minute - however our order was not taken even after 20 minutes. Did not end up eating - cannot judge the food.
google avatar

Yelp
I thought the food was pretty decent. The prices are reasonable, and the service was good.

Yelp
I passed by this place million times and I never saw it. then I decide to try it. I tried the tuna was phenomenal. I tried the pastrami burger was amazing. I tried teriyaki beef which is to die for. really this place is amazing. I met the owner Ray, He's really standing by the grill and making sure every sandwich made with love. you definitely need to try it out. This is true West LA gem.

Cara V.

Yelp
If you are in the area, this place is a must! We wanted to grab a quick bite to eat on our way home and I'm so glad we picked Ray's. The service was delightful and the food was sooooo good! The portions are plentiful, the tots were crispy and the hot banana peppers sauce went well on everything we ordered.
google avatar

Victoria Z.

Yelp
I work across the street so i go Ray's pretty often. Wow, where should i start... They have the best tuna melt in town, and I tried lots of different ones. My second fav is pastrami burger and their fries supreme with melted cheese and thousand island (this is the kind of stuff when you feel like pigging out lol). Teriyaki is also great! I can go on and on and on... Just go and try it yourself!!
google avatar

Keith E.

Yelp
Stumbled onto Ray's by accident and I'm glad I did. Great food and excellent service. I will be going back to sample more items.

Yelp
Rolled Un expectingly and ordered a delicious breakfast sandwich that filled the hunger and left me wanting more. Natural ingredients and put together for a nice presentation. A+.
google avatar

Susan U.

Yelp
They have the best breakfast burritos ( according to my daughter) and I love the breakfast sandwich. Quick and easy to order. Super nice people work here. It's kind of hidden so try to find it. You'll be happy you did!

Yelp
We were in the area looking for a different store and came upon this one. It wasn't busy at all and there was plenty of street parking. So we went for it. My experience was very pleasant and I probably wouldn't go out of my way to go here again. But if I'm near by again I'll stop by. I got the chicken teriyaki and subbed fried for white rice. The salad comes with ranch, I don't know if you can get a different dressing. But the ranch was doable, so I didn't mind it though I don't like ranch on salad. The fries were shoestring fries with no seasoning. A little seasoning salt would've been nice. The chicken was flavored well and juicy. However it was thigh and fatty. I added grilled onion which was a nice addition. The people working there were friendly. I wasn't necessarily wowed. But something about the chill vibe, easy ordering, and quick preparation bumped my experience up a star. Just make sure to feed your meter. I saw someone get a ticket while I was there.

Yelp
loved this burger. the service was great. burger was gorg. it had fresh tomato, raw onion, perfectly cooked patty, and a big fresh bun. I loved it! so glad to have stumbled upon rays.
google avatar

Yelp
My go to spot for Beef or Chicken Teriyaki. Combination plate includes white rice and a salad with dressing on the side. Highly recommend calling your order in ahead of time. Been coming here since before the new owner. Never disappoints.

Killer K.

Yelp
One of the best classic style burgers on the west side. Can't believe I didn't know about this spot. Cheeseburger 5/5 Pastrami 4/5 Will be back!
google avatar

Sheila B.

Yelp
I had the best burger and fries I've ever eaten! We were a little reluctant to eat here when we saw the simple walk up counter with a few outdoor bar stools, but we're SO glad we gave it a try. Both of our burgers were amazing, and the fries were perfectly cooked and yummy. The burgers are huge and one order of fries could have fed 4 people. We split them between the two of us and it looked like we still had a whole bag. Soooooo good!
google avatar

Ashley F.

Yelp
great food, friendly service staff, prices aren't bad either. bought breakfast or lunch almost daily.

Arnulfo A.

Yelp
To the business manager Unfortunately I could not ask for more since I was already in my 30min lunch when I received my food and drove to my work site.what is also unfortunate is that I have become accustomed to check my bag of food before leaving a food service.the ketchup situation is rather funny since I could take it or leave it and since my buddy got only one ketchup pack for his fries I gave him my ketchup pack.thanks hope you the best

Francesco F.

Yelp
This little unassuming shack is home to LA's best teriyaki chicken bowl. Ask for it spicy and prepare your tastebuds. The place is simple, the food is hearty, and you will feel satisfied.

Yelp
Ray's is a hidden treasure. I came one day and tried the Philly cheesesteak which was supurb and huge! I had half for lunch and half for dinner. I came back the very next day to try the beef teriyaki plate. I was greeted by Ray this time and he asked me if I wanted onions and to make it hot? Simon! Ray gave me two samples of agua fresca while I waited - lemon and passion fruit. They had little bits of green apple, chia, and pear (?) in them and OMG so refreshing and delicious. I took my teriyaki home and it was epic! Epic I tell u! Im super picky about the meat in certain meal and you can tell Ray uses top of the line cuts. . I'm coming back once a week for sure. Incredibly reasonable prices and service above and beyond. Rays is a West LA gem. Protect it at all costs!
google avatar

Spencer C.

Yelp
An excellent burger stand in the area. Ordered a simple cheeseburger, and it was was exactly that. A well cooked burger that was bigger than I expected for the price (like 8 or 9 bucks). The service was quick, and the covered dining area comes in clutch if you're looking to eat there. I'm excited to try some of their more interesting burgers in the future--got my eyes on the teriyaki burger, which sounds excellent. If you're looking for an inexpensive burger in the area, you can't go wrong with this one.

Michael A.

Yelp
Oh man, what a lovely experience it is to sink your teeth into a Double Western Bacon Cheeseburger from Ray's!

Yelp
Quick and kind service. Delicious food. Great location for a quick bite or to pickup. My whole office stopped by because I craved a cheesesteak and they did not disappoint. Great quality ingredients and nice bread. Will return and fully recommend.
