I visited the store in August, while travelling from Paris, France. What a jewel ! Found several treasures that I absolutely love to wear -- glamorous and vibrant ; elegantly spectacular. Great staff, joyfully dedicated. I loved the vibe (+ prices were fair and I could easily find items with the right size, which is not always easy in vintage-oriented stores). The store itself is an eye-candy. Definitely the ideal place if you want to take your wardrobe to the next level !

This is the best vintage store in LA and probably the planet. The best people, the best service, and all of the clothes are in a consistently awesome state. There’s also a section with designer clothes from the last decade or so- perfect for when you missed out on an iconic runway piece from the past few years. The home section is well curated- I’ve purchased a great chandelier and other decor that I’m super happy with. They go above and beyond to provide true service and no one has more new amazing things as often as Recess does. A small business gem in LA ❤️❤️

I cant believe that Ive been coming to this store for like 7 years and it FINALLY DAWNED ON ME TO WRITE A REVIEW??! This store is soooo elegant and FULL of splendor and amazing curated vintage and modern pieces. It reminds me of a high end box of chocolates where the box and wrapping and ribbon is so elegant that you feel guilty for eating the candy lol. This place is my guilty pleasure. The decadence comes from the decor and selection but the sweetness comes from the staff. Its a small staff but they work hard to help you find what you are looking for and what you didnt even know you needed in your wardrobe! lol. The owners Marie and Ian are very kind and down to earth and have treated me so well all these years. I am truly grateful to them for helping my little collection of awesome vintage grow. I treasure everything I have bought from there. If you havent been here then you're missing out!

They had some nice stuff My one star if for the racist cashier who asked for ID for a debit card when there is no sign near around by that's asks for ID. 2. Then she ask for our names in a condescending way as if she was going to trip us up when she had my card in her hand. Then when asked if something could be repaired she said the seamtresss was gone..... they didn't have many customers anyway so maybe her attitude should be readjusted. The gentleman that helped us was very kind and accommodating but that's not going to change my views on his racist coworker and I will not be back even though I saw a few other things I was going to buy but before I had this horrible experience.

So I went about a month ago and forgot to leave a review! I am from out-of-state (Texas specifically) and was in the LA area for a few weeks. I decided to do some Christmas shopping for my mom back home and went to a trusted friend (Google) to do some research on shops with vintage clothes for women. That's when I found Recess. I am so happy I did. I browsed their online store before going to the physical site. I was set on getting a necklace, but after seeing it in person I decided it wouldn't fit my mom's style. The person working there (I am bad with names, sorry!) went out of their way to suggest other accessory items and I finally settled on a pair of Rochas sunglasses. They have such a beautiful collection from upscale clothing, shoes, and purses to beautiful jewelry. Also the people working here are super friendly! My mom has definitely been enjoying being the only person in our small city rocking the sunglasses. Whenever I am in the LA area with my mom, she said she will definitely be coming by to check you guys out. So it looks like Recess has some newfound customers in Texas!

A jewel in Los Angeles where one can purchase one of a kind exquisite designs. The owner and her team have a dazzling taste to choose, not only designer labels but also superb pieces from designers around the world, which may not be as know in the United States, but whose work and craftsmanship is terrific. As for Consigments, I would always take my clothes to Recess LA, for their excellent service and professionalism. Enjoy your journey into a world of true craftsmanship and design.

It’s like a TIME MACHINE FOR FASHION AND ICONOGRAPHY I mean THE GREATEST EVER IN FASHION DESIGN, Past and Present, are in these walls. I mean I can’t even begin to describe how elated I was to stumble upon this BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF HISTORICAL Preservation! It’s a Must See for sure…. Be advised, you must be permitted in the store, so no RiftRaft.

I recently contacted Marie for a quote for a Saint Laurent purse. Her lack of enthusiasm as well as lack of basic professional skills have driven me into never returning or recommending this shop to anyone. Her social skills as well as her "knowledge" is concerning. I just hope she doesn't treat people that come into her shop, disrespectfully as she did me. BEWARE!

I am OBSESSED with this place! I got my birthday dress here and took my mom when she came to visit! She got these gorgeous decanters for her bar. The staff is so kind and the owners really care. So glad I found this gem!

Excellent store, very clean and beautiful layout. Great selection of vintage fashion and home items. Very good service and very helpful and friendly. Highly recommend! Theres street parking in front and a few free spots in the back so you do not have to valet park at 1st.

I visited Recess around a month back and realized I forgot to share my experience with everyone! Hailing from Texas, I was in Los Angeles for a couple of weeks and wanted to do some Christmas shopping for my mother. Turning to my trusty companion, Google, I came across Recess while looking for stores with vintage clothing for women. I was thrilled to discover this gem. Prior to visiting the store in person, I explored their online store. Although I initially had my eyes set on a necklace, upon seeing it in real life, I felt it wasn't quite my mother's style. The staff member at Recess, whose name escapes me (apologies!), kindly went above and beyond to recommend other accessory options, leading me to eventually purchase a stunning pair of Rochas sunglasses. Recess boasts a stunning array of upscale clothing, shoes, handbags, and exquisite jewelry. The team working there is incredibly warm and welcoming! My mother has been thoroughly enjoying being the talk of our small town as the exclusive owner of these fabulous sunglasses. She is already excited about visiting Recess herself whenever we are in LA. It seems like Recess has gained some loyal customers from Texas!

Beautifully curated selection of vintage and the service is impeccable. We walked in after finding them on yelp and discovered some real treasures we took home with us. The staff is super friendly and kind, this place is an absolute dream!!! Will be one of my must-stop spots in LA. Prices are very fair and are wide ranging, there is something for everyone at Recess.

I would bet money that the TV show 'Pose' uses Recess to source much of their 80's era gorgeousness. If they don't, that show is definitely missing out on a treasure trove. Troop Beverly Hills comes to mind when thinking of the Phyllis Nefler-esque style sequins and feathers that adorn Recess' interior. Beautiful wraps, stunning jackets, and elegant dresses, all from the age of wearing your wealth and success as brightly and tightly as possible. I loved so many pieces here, but consistently seem to find myself more of a fan of the 50's and 60's - tight waisted bell dresses, over slinky silk and scrunched single shoulder numbers. But if anyone could bring me back to the 80's, you can bet it would be Recess. The service and style were amazing and I loved the gentleman who ran security's suit and bow tie. All and all, it is an absolutely amazing store!

Love this place. Walked in seeking a vintage like gold clutch for an event that weekend -and the sales staff was so helpful. I am picky and assumed I wouldn't find the right item in the nick of time but voila - I did and couldn't be happier and at a very fair price point for a vintage item in spotless condition. (I also walked out with a bracelet and vintage sunglasses.) Thanks so much - I watch you guys on Insta - I'd come in all of the time if I didn't live out of state. Great products, great prices, and impeccable service.

This is by far one of the best consignment shops ever. The selection is beautiful, unique, colorful and well put together. I always find beautiful vintage and/or designer things every time I visit. I always feel welcome there. I have consigned pieces there and have never had any issues. Her prices are very good and fair. Marie and her husband have always been kind to me and very knowledgeable. I also love seeing Leon and Megan...well the whole staff is great. Definitely worth several visits there! The jewelry and belts are awesome too!!

Could not make up my mind as soon as I started wandering throughout the store! Pieces were immaculate and to die for!! I settled on a vintage ivory bangle and a Fendi bag. Loved the people and plan on returning when I'm back in LA Rose Mary Sciandra July 2017

Marie and her team are consummate professionals. I brought my things in for consignment on a Sunday for her to look at. She was so friendly and honest about my items. She was able to buy several dresses on the spot which made me feel good about establishing a relationship. Then I blinked and everything else was sold! I only wish I had found her business sooner and saved myself SO MUCH in pesky eBay fees. Thank you Marie! PS- I don't recall the gentleman who does security for you, but he is dapper and DOPE!

Recess LA is an awesome discovery. The store is chic and the staff really friendly. I met the owner and she was really down to earth. She told me that Recess LA is a mom and pop store which made me fall in love with them even more :) I think it's time we support small businesses as opposed to large corporations. If you live in the LA area, definitely stop by often as they get "new" items in. Another thing I love about Recess LA is the re use of beautiful clothing that are pieces of art. They are the antithesis of the Fast Fashion. I would give them 10 stars if I could.

The owner is a professional. She knows designer clothing from known pieces by Yves Saint Laurent to exquisite rare pieces from not known designers. In fact, the vintage pieces are artworks. They are lovingly picked out for what is genuinely interesting and beautiful not necessarily for what would "sell". Sure, that is part of it, but you can tell when you walk inside this little museum of delicious fabrics and accessories filled with character and colors that remind you why a particular combination looks so good. Anyways; I've attempted to consigned with them on my first attempt and realized quickly this place was no joke. Unlike other places that sort through your belongings that you think worthy of display and pay, Recess is more of a curatorial effort that keeps seasons, quality and style in mind. Don't get offended or take it personal. Instead learn from them - them being the people that call the shots on the clothing and other items for consigning. I did, my second attempt went great and I sold my first piece about a month ago with them. Extremely fair on the pricing and all the content in the contract makes sense. It's a joy to go through all the pieces displayed while they assess your stuff too!

I buy here and sell here. I have consigned from Renaissance in Santa Barbara to 3020 Designer Resale, Decades and other places in and around Los Angeles and this is the highest service and fastest turnaround place in town. The staff is great, the communication is beyond great. They pay twice a month too. I wish the store was three times the size as I have so many things to consign. I wish they had room for it all. Totally top end and hard to find exclusive haute couture pieces from today and yesteryear.

I was so pleased with my visit to Recess today. I'd never been there before, and wanted to see if they thought any of my vintage items were sellable. They were so nice, efficient, and professional. The store is gorgeous and chock-a-block with gorgeous things. I highly recommend.

Love this shop! Everything is curated with love. Owners are super respectful in choosing and also turning back pieces. I've sold and purchased items here - the payouts are easy and the email comms are great. Recess is perfect if you're into vintage designer or flashy/classy vintage. Recess is a TREASURE! Looking at their wonderful Yelp reviews... and their fabulous website for online shoppers (great photography and presentation)... I knew the store would be a special place! It is truly a gem.... Marie and team are wonderful to work with - whether you're shopping or consigning - and the store itself is a joy to peruse. The word "curated" is overused these days, but it's a perfect descriptor for the spot-on selection of clothing and accessories, all beautifully presented in the store. They have great vision when it comes to clothing and styling. I have collected many special clothing items over the years (Gaultier, Plein Sud, and Balmain, to name a few). I was looking to find the right place to consign them - to give others who appreciate vintage clothing an opportunity to enjoy them. Recess' enthusiasm for these vintage items was very encouraging, and I know they'll find them a good home. Pricing is fair and they have an impressive selection.

Absolutely love this place! There is nothing stuffy or pretentious about this place which makes it for a great neighborhood gem! The presentation has a nice flow to it which makes for a pleasant shopping experience. I have bought a few pieces from and I love browsing in the store on my free time. Marie is great!! very attentive and personable and knows her stuff! The ice cream cone hats are adorable and a fun accessory for any occasion!

Ok one of my new favorite stores in LA. My friend got a head piece for Halloween, and I was absolutely obsessed. She gave me the name of the store, and I ran over the following day. The owner Marie was there to great me as I flew in the door telling her I needed Ice Cream Cone headbands (which you all should go check out they are amazing!!). She had a few left as it was a few days before Halloween, and I tried them all on. Unfortunately none of them were my color, or wanted to stay on my head. I told her my dream colors, and she said she would try and have custom ones made. The next day, at around midday I got an email that my two headpieces had been custom made and already delivered! Talk about fast service!!!! Unbelievable!! Thanks Marie xx

Very friendly staff, and the location is very clean and organized. They have amazing items and free parking in the rear. (Just ring the bell). I did not buy anything however they have a nice selection of couture pieces!!

I had a few days in LA and wanted to check out some consignment stores. I found Recess by checking out Yelp and was not disappointed!! The store is lovely - and the clothes are beautiful. Lots of designer and vintage clothes - all in incredible shape. Everything is laid out really nicely. It was a lot of fun just to browse. I did end up buying a beautiful Gucci purse that I don't need but can't wait to use A LOT! I met the owner - Marie and her husband. They are both really nice and Marie clearly has great taste. If you love consignment and beautiful clothes, shoes and purses - you'll really enjoy a trip to Recess! I can't wait for my next trip to LA so I have an excuse to go back ! :)

Ladies are so sweet. Easy to do consignment with them. True professionals that know what they need and want don't waste time and they aren't insulting.

Marie is the most professional and friendly person you'll ever meet in a consignment store! She's got a great eye and prices things very fairly based on their condition. You feel welcome the second you walk in the door and you want everything in the store, forgetting that you went in to sell not shop! Absolutely where you should sell if you're looking for a consignment store.

I recently discovered Recess. What a coup! As the other reviews say, Marie is absolutely delightful. I consigned some items and was very impressed with the professional way she handled this, and the fact that she sold some of them immediately. They have a fantastic selection of clothes, shoes, bags and jewelry. One would expect mainly classic vintage items, but especially in the accessories and jewelry there are some terrific modern items too. Each item is very carefully selected by Marie and her husband. Some are by renowned designers Alaia, Armani, Versace, Valentino, etc. - others are just exquisite in their own right.

One of the best vintage/consignment stores in L.A! The vibe is super friendly, as was the woman cashing me out at the end. Prices are very good compared to other stores. I feel they are reasonable, and not trying to be overpriced. Each item in store is unique and different from each other. Definitely check Recess out when you have the chance. I will be back when I am back in town!

Marie and her business partner are lovely as their specially curated designer gear. There's a ton of things I have never come across in resale-and believe me I'm an avid resale junkie and have seen a lot. You will find anything from Thierry mugler, to Celine, to equipment silk blouses. Conveniently located near the buffalo exchange, so you can make your first stop here before getting ripped off by buffalo exchange as recess will give you the money and a new loving home to your gently loved designer fashions you deserve. Besides doing consignment, the shopping here is wayyyyyyyyyy more fun! Treasures upon treasures. It's good fashion karma so give back to the fashion universe! It pays to be green and shop recycled fashions while finding your unique treasure!

I seriously cannot say enough great things about this place or the owner! I have been consigning and shopping with Marie at Recess for almost 2 years and I am always blown away at how professional and wonderful Marie and her husband Ian are. I have consigned at lots of other places in Los Angeles and recess is by far the best experience I've ever had. I shop and consign here so often that I now consider Marie a great friend! She has excellent taste, yet caters to all different styles and I know any woman I send here can find something amazing and unique they can't live without! Every single time I get a compliment on something I'm wearing it's from Recess! I recently got married and wore dresses from Recess at both my bridal shower and my rehearsal dinner. Everything here is curated perfectly and the customer service is top notch! Her pricing is always spot on as well and she works really hard to sell your vintage or designer duds. Stumbled upon this store and already returned within 24 hours. Very friendly team there. Store does a really good job selecting their pieces and the prices are great. We tried a couple of other consignment stores but they had too much ego - Recess is our new go-to. We took in a few items, and came out with a pair of shoes.

Lovely place with a wonderful owner. I came here while on a short holiday from Washington, DC and very much fell in love with the decor, selection, and service. The owner has a good eye and taste. I'm very picky about my choices in clothes and accessories, and this place delivered.

I recently contacted Marie with an inquiry for a quote regarding my Saint Laurent purse. Although, she appeared professional and sound through email, that was not the case as i visited her shop on La Brea. Her attitude was beyond unprofessional and arrogant. As we went through an quote process, you could feel the condescending tone in which she speaks, judge you and size you up to whatever she was comfortable telling herself. As a shop owner, you understand your business and customers and if you're a down to earth, easy going, fun loving person, she will make you feel like she knows better. Her source of pricing: finding your item on other consignment platforms or google.com. I understand that we must compare prices to produce the best quote, but honestly, it seems like she has no clue what she is doing. You either know the product or you don't. Well, Marie, i will be sure to never send anyone even feet within your shop. Your attitude is poor and you don't listen when customers speak. My advice: Take a leadership class and learn to communicate as an effective human being.

This review is long overdue. I had such an amazing experience with Marie, Alex, and Kevin, upon consigning some vintage Saint Laurent Rive Gauche, pieces here. The service was beyond impeccable, as everyone was exceedingly patient with me. Joe their security person, is also the sweetest guy ever. Every piece sold quite expeditiously. I have to say that I initially inquired through another consignment boutique, as they tried to deduct an amount for dry cleaning, and eventually made me feel as if I was impatient, after having left my clothing there for two weeks, because I dared to ask the status on when the items would be out on the floor. They then proceeded to decline my merchandise as a result. Although I do respect and understand that they deal with thousands of pieces at a time and need to evaluate and check in and price all the items, accordingly. I still feel that they were a bit wishy-washy, as I really appreciated the ease I had in dealing with Marie at Recess. No waiting aimlessly...I also needed a cool 70's-80's ensemble for a friend's Studio 54 Birthday party, back in April. Kevin was so gracious and patient, as I undoubtedly drove him nuts after two visits there, in dire search of something to wear for this event. I understand how frustrating it is when you've worked a long day, especially in retail, when a customer cannot make up their mind. I finally found, or probably Kevin found me, this really amazing beaded/sequined black and gold dress...I got so many compliments! Thank you to everyone at Recess... They have the most beautiful collection of vintage pieces...jackets and chic gowns. A one stop shop, as there is everything you'll want here. Best of all is the regard and kindness you receive, and that is what professionalism in a business is all about...not snobbery...

I recently cleaned out my home and got rid of half of my belongings, many of which were designer clothes. I have had a bad experience before with another well known consignment store in LA where they actually gave my clothes away without any kind of notice. They used to mail it back to you, or at least notify you, but their customer service has just gone down hill. Luckily, I found Marie, who is absolutely amazing! She has a fantastic eye, carries beautiful designer pieces and is just a joy to consign with. I will never go anywhere else. If you're looking for an amazing selection of designer pieces Recess is the place to go!

I was looking for a cocktail dress for a wedding next month and wanted to buy re-sale. I had already been to most of the stores on La Brea, with no success, when I found Recess. Their selection is huge and reasonably priced! With help from Erika, the sweet and knowledgeable sales associate, I found a wonderful Gucci silk dress. Recess, I'll be back!

wow this place has the BEST selection of everything!!! plus they throw some pretty swanky parties here every once in a while too!! and they give u a pretty good price for the items u leave with them!! and the store itself is SO PRETTY inside!!!!

Soo... I went here a couple of times not planning to splurge, but after seeing the selection and items that were in the store, it is really hard to hold back my desires. The owners are the nicest people you can find in a consignment store and the store is so chic. Could not ask for better! Keep up the good work!
