Yelp
Uptown Minneapolis has a happening restaurant and bar scene. Walking along its Main Streets of Hennepin Avenue and Lake Street in the heart of Uptown, we passed an abundance of restaurants and bars. One of them we did not pass is the Red Cow. That is because we decided to take a break from urban hiking and have lunch in the Red Cow. Established in August of 2017, the owners Luke Shimp and Tracy Bachul (husband and wife) gave Uptown Minneapolis a modern tavern where guests can enjoy a variety of food and drinks that feature specialty burgers, vegan, craft beer, and approximately forty varieties of wine. They complimented their modern tavern with the name Red Cow. The "red" means wine and the "cow" means beef. Uptown is their third location.
The Red Cow reminds me more of a modern burger restaurant than a typical tavern. The way it is set up is that you walk into the center where the host station is. The large bar is in the room to the right where the dining room and 1,000 square foot outdoor patio is to the left. Regardless that the weather was beautiful in Minneapolis we sat inside where there was abundant sunlight.
I ordered the Ultimate Burger. At $11.75, I consider it is a solid deal. This is about the same price as the upper tier fast food chains. For a similar price point, The Red Cow cooked me a mouth watering Certified Angus Beef burger made from scratch that included Wisconsin Aged Cheddar Cheese, iceberg lettuce, tomato, onions, and Red Cow Sauce. It included hand-cut fries. I give the Ultimate Burger and hand-cut fries four stars. Although they specialize in craft beer and the, "red" in the name means wine, I was content with a Coke.
Throughout the meal our Waitress did a good job serving our table. She had a pleasant attitude. This isn't one of those restaurants where the food is great but the service is lacking.
Since Red Cow opened in August of 2017, it has contributed positively to the Uptown Minneapolis dining scene. They serve very good burgers in a pleasant atmosphere for a solid price. We made the right decision choosing the Red Cow on the long urban hike from downtown to Bda Maka Ska.
