"Roseann Rostoker and Lou Lombardo now run their homey Northeast style Italian restaurant Uptown on Magazine Street, where an outdoor courtyard seats 38. If favorites like meatballs and red gravy, arancini, gnocchi, and chicken parmigiana don’t keep you warm enough, a table next to a vertical heater should do the trick." - Clair Lorell

"Roseann and Lou Rostoker reopen their homey Northeast style Italian restaurant Red Gravy September 2 at their new location Uptown at 4206 Magazine street. Opening for dine-in and patio dining, Red Gravy also offers a family meal pack of that features a quart of Roseann’s swoon-worthy sauce, a pound of handmade spaghetti (to cook at home), and six of her Nonna-style meatballs for $45." - Beth D'Addono

"Owner and chef Roseann Roster has a serious commitment to serving local products at this charming, little Italian cafe just off Canal. Menu items that are gluten-free (or can be prepared gluten-free for an up charge) are marked with an asterix on the menu. Pasta made with almond and arrow root flours and yard eggs is available for $5 extra on bolognese, carbonara, and red gravy- covered pasta. Plus, Red Gravy has one of the best brunches in the city." - Clair Lorell, Stephanie Carter

Very attentive & chill. When you walk in it smells divine! Our server was very smart in suggesting the breakfast spaghetti for brunch & make sure to add the meatball y’all! Plus the other thing I really look for & was given was time & space to enjoy my meal. Thank y’all for making my Sunday! Red Gravy has earned a new client who will def travel his hour for their well made Italian dishes. #ItalianFoodFprTheSoul

When you think of New Orleans, great Italian food may not be at the top of your list, but after visiting Red Gravy, you’ll quickly learn there is so much more culinary creativity in this wonderful city! Without a doubt, crafting handmade pasta is an art, as is, bringing it all together in a menu, especially during these challenging times. Red Gravy is all aces here! The meatballs were massive and easily something that can be shared as an appetizer and the pasta carbonara was delightful. Service was delightful and engaging and I learnt a little more about John Coltrane. If you are in New Orleans, take a stroll up Magazine and take the time to enjoy this gem of a place.

Extremely delicious Italian food. You must visit this restaurant. The Bread & Gravy is unbelievable. Try the Bourbon Apple Milk Punch drink.

Best food experience we had in New Orleans. Service was impeccable and food was wonderful. Even my picky 9 yo enjoyed the spaghetti with red gravy, cheese board and bread. I will go back again when in town. Very quaint.

i came in for a solo dinner, visiting from out of town. i made the reservation a week in advance and all the staff were so pleasant in creating and facilitating my reservation! the host, megan, was friendly and made sure to greet all guests who came through the door with a smile. my server, kayley, was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. she recommended the squash ravioli special, which was divine. i enjoyed dessert and my cocktail post-meal with a live jazz triplet. my experience here was phenomenal, and i can’t wait to refer this place to others! thank you all for a great experience.

Amazed that this place was empty when we got here on a Saturday morning, while a nameless place with subpar food a few blocks away had a massive line. If you eat breakfast anywhere during your trip to New Orleans, make it Red Gravy. Lots of options to choose from and great coffee. The food is absolutely delicious, the service is excellent, and the message in the menu will make you want to tip extra. Loved my meal here. Wish I didn't waste my time at the other place.

We were looking for a unique breakfast and definitely found it at Red Gravy. I was first impressed by the chalkboard outside that said "Be nice, Hate is not welcome here" We were sat immediately and drink orders we filled promptly, a spicy bloody mary and a mocha coffee with added alcohol. We ordered the recommended breakfast spaghetti and meatball and a skillet cake. The spaghetti sauce was awesome and the meatball prepared perfectly. The skillet cake was something unique. It was like a warm coffee cake with added bacon and cheese. Very good indeed. We spent a few dollars and expected to do so with such a complete meal and drinks for brunch. We were full until dinnertime. Well worth it.

When I visited NOLA last year during Mardi Gras season, I discovered this place. Both me and my friend had gotten sick, but even though I couldn't taste much at that time, I could still tell the breakfast spaghetti at Red Gravy was awesome. I had to go back this year, and it was even better than it was before. Both times I was able to find street parking across from the restaurant easily. It is a short walk up to Canal Street. Love the exterior. The porch/balcony is painted red and the Red Gravy sign has a hand-painted look. There are lights strung and a banner on the upper balcony that looks like an American flag made up of positive words and affirmations. Inside, there was some knick-knack or brightly-coloured Mardi Gras decoration to be discovered everywhere you look. The coffee cups and sugar caddies are red, one of my two favourite colours. This place is just so cute and homey. The prices are a little higher than what you might pay for breakfast elsewhere, but to me, it was totally worth it. I saw that someone on Yelp said they don't offer vegan or gluten-free options, which simply isn't true. Maybe she just didn't ask? I will admit that the menu is very small print and may have been hard for her to read. I looked it up before I ever went on my trip; I have to do this with all my restaurants and plan in advance, being GF. Like I said, the menu may be a bit pricey, but I allow myself that luxury on vacation. AND the ingredients are top-notch. I added sausage to my breakfast spaghetti, and it was delicious! Perfect, rich flavour and the reason it costs more is because it doesn't have nasty fillers....like gluten. The spaghetti was also made with almond flour. I would pay more for that because it is such a healthy alternative, and almond flour is EXPENSIVE. I cook with it at home myself. I went to look on the site--it's down at the moment--but I seen to remember reading their eggs are free-range too. Hey, I don't ever mind paying for quality ingredients; it's so much healthier and tastes better. That GF pasta is perfect. You would never know it's not the 'real' thing. I say it tastes better than regular wheat pasta. Then, you have that rich, delicious red sauce over it, topped by a perfectly fried egg. When you cut into that yolk and it runs down over everything, it's pure breakfast bliss. Make sure you treat yourself to that sausage add on. It's some of the best Italian sausage I've ever eaten. And the portions are very generous. No matter how much I love this dish, I can never finish it all and bout kill myself trying lol. My server was very nice. She said the breakfast spaghetti was her favourite menu item too. I was alone in the place just after it opened on a Wednesday morning. Very quiet and peaceful. I was surprised there was a bit of a wait for the food, but it was worth it. I just got a little antsy because I was taking a paddlewheeler cruise that morning and it almost pushed to the point that I would be later than I wanted for boarding (I wanted to get there for the beginning of the 30-minute window before departure). I did make it but didn't like pushing it that much. I'd given myself an hour and a half. If you want to treat yourself to an outside-the-box, upscale breakfast, you must visit Red Gravy while in New Orleans. I will definitely be back next year.
