A Ballantyne favorite for generous nigiri, sashimi, and signature rolls. Recognized by Charlotte Magazine’s sushi roundups and appreciated by locals for attentive service and sake flights.

Every time I eat here it is phenomenal. The spicy edamame is the best I have ever had, the ginger dressing on the salad is perfect! I have had sushi and it is so fresh and flavorful. This time I had the Red Sea treasure and loved it! It’s a drive for me to go here, but so very worth it!

Google
This is not sushi, this is a joke. I ordered from this place for the first time, expecting the quality to match the price. What a disappointment! The rolls are falling apart, poorly assembled, with a strange taste. I’m extremely disappointed and will never order from here again!

Google
This place is a hidden gem. I have lived in the area for many years and have never been here until recently. They have more than just sushi as I got the teriyaki chicken and it was great! Very flavorful and fresh. My boyfriend got the sushi and also loved his. Deducted a star due to the prices are a bit high but that is everywhere these days. Will definitely be back to try more.

Everything we ordered was delicious. I love the specials menu with $12. Rolls. The nigiri 🍣 sushi with truffle was the best thing I’ve tasted.miso soup was very good too.

I come here often and if you look you will see many photos I have taken in the last two + years. I'm so sorry to say that lately, the food is hit or miss and not consistent. One visit it can be the most delicious meal and the next can be not good at all. I need to add the rolls are consistent and the seaweed salad too, but the rest is not. I believe there are different cooks and they cook differently. I did speak to our waitress and told her my thoughts on the food and expressed that my husband and I were going to pay but the one dish out of two was not what is was in prior visits. The chicken dish was mostly breading and very dry. The sauce was off. She seemed taken back and her demeanor changed. With the price of the food I felt compelled to comment. I will continue to order rolls and Seaweed Salad as they are very tasty here.

Google
Too notch service, mediocre food. Sushi was sliced too thick. Overall, the restaurant had a nice atmosphere. The staff was incredibly nice and very prompt. The bathrooms are very clean and they definitely had an ex pensive menu of items. The drink menu was also great with mini selections.

Absolutely loved it. Honestly, it was the best sushi I have ever had. Great service and top quality. I definitely recommend and will definitely return next time I'm in Charlotte!

Edited 2 yrs later B-: We ended up going back and have updated our rating. The service is exceptional. The only reason we come is for sushi, which is fresh and yummy. It's always presented in a very appealing manner. The lunch specials are great and allow you to try different rolls for a great price. The calamari is still not great. I recommend sticking to sushi for a great meal. D: 1star The place was quite on a Saturday night. Service was decent nothing above or below average. We ordered calamari which was frozen rings and served with a mayonnaise based sauce. The sushi was very well made but the serving size of the sesame chicken was average size and came with white or brown rice (no substitutes for noodles). The chicken was overly sweet with very little sesame seeds. We paid $53 for the app, sushi, entree, and 2 bottled sodas. I wish I could say more great things about Red Sake but there really isn't much. We tried it and will not go back.

Yelp
Red Sake surpassed my expectations. After ages of saying "one day," we finally visited one Saturday afternoon. From the moment we arrived, the service was outstanding. It was pretty quiet and dark inside. We ordered appetizers, a dinner plate, and several sushi rolls. My 13-year-old nephew recommended the Robinson roll, which I ordered with some hesitation. But now it's the main reason I'll be coming back. Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Highly recommended.

Yelp
The food is terrific, very fresh and well prepared and delicious The staff is very professional and caring Great service and always greet us with a smile. We go every week. The ambiance is friendly and cozy.

Yelp
Good mid tier sushi joint. We went on a Thursday night. Wasn't too busy. Crunchy and Ballantyne roll were great. Edamame and miso soup were good. The Nigiri flight had 3-4 good pieces of traditional Nigiri, yellowtail, salmon, etc. There were two pieces of sushi we hadn't heard of that we didn't like. Service was good. Overall I liked this place and will come back.

Yelp
This place is sort of hidden as I have lived in this area for a long time and have never been until now! There is more than just sushi as I got the teriyaki chicken and my boyfriend got 2 rolls of sushi. The chicken was great and came out very fresh. Prices are a bit high but that's everywhere these days. Loved the entrees and will be back.

Yelp
The Luke Lobster Roll is my favorite roll in Charlotte... yes, I said it. Lobster meat, spicy tuna, topped w/ avocado, eel sauce, crunchy sweet potato, tobiko. I had to get the Salmon Lover roll because I'm a salmon lover... It's the perfect simple but delicious roll. Salmon, avocado, topped w/more salmon, jalapeño and spicy mayo. I ordered the Mongolian Beef for my main. Tender stir-fried beef, onion, carrot, and scallions in the BEST spicy sweet brown sauce. There was no Beef vs Scallops here, they were both delicious. If you're looking for a dish lighter on the sauce, this is for you! I am requiring that every piece of cheesecake I have from now on is Tempura fried...

Yelp
We recently stopped in for lunch and what a wonderful experience! They have a wide variety on their menu and have a great lunch menu as well. We had the Seafood Treasure with fried rice which also comes with a delicious spring roll and a Poke Bowl! The poke bowl had just the right amount of kick in the sauce for me. It was fantastic. We definitely recommend trying it out! Can't wait to be back in town to go back!

Yelp
First time and we went for date night. The food and service were superb. The lychee martini was everything I hoped it would be . ;)

Biadiz V.

Yelp
Food is always good. Came in at 2:45 to order something to go. Website says open till 3. I had to search for someone in order to place my order. I got someone's attention. He came to the host stand and seamed very annoyed. I asked if they were still open, he rudely replied that they were closed. Only open for takeout he said. Better Customer Service is much needed in the establishment

Yelp
Delicious sushi. Had a wonderful time at this restaurant. Highly recommend it. We had a various sushi, the edamame and it was tasty. Service was good.

Shilpa P.

Yelp
This is the second time we had bad experience. Server was terrible. The spring rolls served were undercooked as in frozen inside. We had ordered sushi rolls. We discussed with them which one is good and ordered that one but they never served it saying we never ordered. It was too late to reorder. Few months ago we went the server was pretty bad that time as well. Don't remember the food quality. Overall food was pretty average. Sushi is one thing I liked and they didn't serve it. Ambiance is alright.

Yelp
Always cozy with excellent food and great service ginger dressing is homemade and yummy

Yelp
Red sake popped up as an option for Postmates delivery. I had never heard of it but was excited to try it after reading the incredible reviews. We ordered the Singapore noodles, crunchy roll, spicy yellowtail roll and a house salad. Everything was packaged with care and was absolutely phenomenal. I was shocked at how delicious the crunchy roll was bc it had shrimp tempura in it. I thought it might not travel as well for delivery. We did get the sauce on the side for the rolls which makes it perfect for dipping! The salad portion was huge and you can easily split it. The noodles were delicious and we had leftovers there as well. We will definitely be back! Yummy!

Yelp
I love sushi! I love all kinds of sushi. When we moved to the Carolinas I knew that finding a decent sushi place was an absolute must. Well, I think we have found our new regular. This place really delivers when it comes to fresher tasting sushi. I know, I lived in SoCal where sushi and fresh fish are abounding, but let me just say that the sushi I got here really delivers! I went here twice before I even reviewed it because I wanted to be sure, but it's official, this place has great sushi! I had the Phoenix Roll and a Spicy Tuna Roll. Red Sake is consistently busy, which is always a good sign, and the wait has never been more than 5 minutes even on a busy Friday night. I'll be back again for sure.

Jayme B.

Yelp
My friend and I came here for a late dinner on Thursday. We were greeted and seated promptly. Our waiter was very nice and he refilled our water without asking consistently. The reason for my 3 star rating is that a lot of the sushi options had shrimp tempura and/or cream cheese in them. Also, I specifically asked for no sesame seeds on my rolls (and watched the waiter write it down) and there were sesame seeds on my rolls. I don't know, the sushi wasn't bad here, it just wasn't my favorite. My friend also felt the same way.
google avatar

Peyton H.

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants! My kids love the chicken friend rice, my husband loves the chicken pad tai, and I love the crispy California roll! The appetizers are also great!

Yelp
Red Sale is our favorite place For sushi in South Charlotte. The quality is fresh. Our favorite dish is the crunchy tuna tacos.

Nancy D.

Yelp
THE SPICY GARLIC EDAMAME IS AMAZING. Seriously the best edamame we've had. The sushi roll is the Ballantyne roll - delicious. The pad Thai noodles were pretty good, the chefs chicken was pretty good too. It is kind of like an orange chicken taste.
google avatar

Stacey W.

Yelp
Service and food, over and above expectation. Adored my pink lady with only whole tuna (no spicy) and miso and edamame. Waiter was such a leader - flattering and friendly and lovely. Lychee martini rounds it out!! Try it!

Yelp
After moving to Charlotte a year and a half ago my husband and I went on the search for a good quality and consistent sushi restaurant. This is it!!!! I highly reviewed this restaurant when we tried it for the first time but we continue to go to Red Sake several times a month (at one point we were going once a week and had to tone it down!) We absolutely love the Mr. Crab roll, the Salmon Lover roll, the Kamikaze roll, the spicy edamame, and the crab Rangoons. The service is always quick and kind and we rarely have to wait for a table. It is the perfect mix of classy and casual. The atmosphere is welcoming with a modern Japanese flare. There is always plenty of parking. They offer indoor and outdoor seating with the option to sit at the sushi bar. When we get home from work and both say.... "Sushi!?" We come here lol.
google avatar

Ali W.

Yelp
This was an amazing experience. The location isn't what we expected but the food was better than we could've imagined. Even on a busy week night the service was fast and very friendly. Thanks jade :) This was the best sushi we've ever eaten. Highly recommend the salmon belly, blue fin tacos, lotus & truffle roll, chow fun & salmon skin roll. I don't know how this was under our sushi restaurant radar for a long time. We will be back!

Yelp
I just had one of the most pleasurable dining experiences and it happened here. To be fair we came on a Monday early and it was not busy, but Andy and Yisa were so accommodating, pleasant, friendly, and the food was very good. The Sushi, Edamame, and Pot Stickers were all very fresh and just so good. Then you top it off with the friendliness of Andy & Yisa, it just made it that much nicer. The wife and I have decided this is our new Sushi Spot. If I had to come up with opportunities for improvement, I would suggest change the soap in the restrooms I washed and the fragrance is so strong that I could smell it as I was eating the Edamame. The other Item is the Pot Stickers had water inside of them, not that I ever remember that when I have had them before, even with that that were very very good. They have a great ambiance and what a great little plaza to be located in with plenty of parking. They Do not have Reservations, so do not expect them or base your Review on that fact, be fair about what the review is supposed to be about, Good Food, Service and Friendly People. Check them out if you even have to drive for 20mins, to be honest what in Charlotte in not 20mins...lol

Yelp
This sushi meets the quality I enjoyed while visiting Japan. I had the Red Sake Póke Bowl... I think it was named something close to that. DELICIOUS! Fresh! My husband had the filet mignon bowl... it looked amazing! Fresh veggies in both dishes! Great server, as well! We called ahead for the booth that sits 5, could have added chairs or squeezed in to fit 8.

Yelp
This place is amazing! The food and service are superb. I highly recommend this restaurant. The gyoza , Tangerine Chicken and General Tso's are some of the best we have had since moving to Charlotte.

Yelp
Jaidrianna was lovely to chat with and provided friendly service. Asian bistro with sushi plus different dishes of SE Asia countries. Usually you don't expect sushi to be serious but not the case here. Uni from Hokkaido and California but the latter was not available. Madai, akami, chutoro, toro, hirame, shime aji, salmon toro truffle, bunch of good fish that you don't expect at an "Asian bistro". Wasn't overpriced for the delivery. Shari could be more seasoned but temperature was good. Had Bluefin flight twice , second time wanted the toro to be aburi style torched but they torched all of it lol. Never thought we finish sushi with beef chow fun, Japanese yes we would finish with ramen, Yako onigiri, but chow fun, Niiicceeee. Actually very good wok hay flavors. Be back again!

Steven S.

Yelp
First time at restaurant and definitely not coming back. Sat for 20 minutes and had to ask for service. Food was meh and we didn't get a dish after them saying it was coming multiple times. Don't bother.
google avatar

Tiffany H.

Yelp
This is a nice restaurant in a small shooing area. There is plenty of shared parking. The windows are black tint so you can't look inside. The sushi and egg drop soup was great. The lychee martini was strong and tasty and the sake martini was pretty good. The waitress was nice and checked on us often. The prices are a bit higher and the restrooms could use some regular care. Hope you enjoy.
google avatar

Mouf K.

Yelp
The best Asian food spot in the Ballantyne area. I order from here once a week and dine-in once or twice a month. Amazing fried rice and great sushi. The waitstaff is nice but they have an awkward bar. Can't really consider it a bar that you can sit at and order drinks. The sushi bar is comfortable and there are TVs all around. Would I go back there? . I love this place.
google avatar

Yelp
We came here on a Sunday. Their COVID protocols are great. They are doing temp checks and are socially distancing their booths. This place is amazing! We came on a Sunday around lunch and while it was busy we were sat right away. Great atmosphere and decor all around and bottle with a super friendly staff makes this a no brainer. The rolls were amazing. Great design and flavor and even for lunch it's satisfying. For an appetizer we started with a seaweed salad and edamame which were both good and came out super fast. The California roll does not come with cream cheese so don't forget to add this if you're fond of CC. We tried the Firecracker roll which had crab spicy Mayo and it's topped with flaming hot Cheetos!! Out of this world. We will definitely be back! Everything was really yummy. It's located in a small plaza with plenty of parking so don't miss out!
google avatar

Colette L.

Yelp
My friend told me about this place since it's near where she lives so we came here on Sunday. It's been a while since I ventured down to South Charlotte and I can't believe I've been missing out! It is located in the Village at Robinson Farm off of Rea Rd. They do have their own parking lot so it was easy to park and the restaurant itself is spacious inside. The staff wore masks and tables ensured social distance. They have a pretty extensive menu and offer $10 sushi special rolls everyday except for Fri, Sat, and holidays. I ended up trying these items: Gyoza - Tasty! Larger in size than other places where I've had them. Red Sake Roll - The salmon on top was so tender and soft.. Naruto Roll - It is wrapped with cucumber slices and was so refreshing. I can't wait to come back and try out their other sushi and menu items!
google avatar

JD R.

Yelp
Great local spot. As an out-of-towner, it was clear the sushi bar has a 'Cheers' vibe. They knew everyone that walked in the door. It is an extremely good value for high quality sushi. Definitely worth checking it out!

Charles C.

Yelp
My husband and I had an exceptional dining experience at Red Ginger. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted, setting a pleasant tone for our Sunday lunch. Our waiter recommended the Mongolian Beef, which turned out to be next-level Asian food--absolutely delicious. The service was impeccable, complementing the outstanding cuisine. It was our first visit, but we will definitely be back very soon!
google avatar

Nazhat S.

Yelp
Went here once in person and thought it was fine albeit pricy (and with a menu all over the place). Have ordered delivery a few times since and this last order will be last time. Not only are their prices ridiculous for the quality ($30 on average for their "specialty" rolls) but even the quality has gone downhill. -the veggie spring rolls were bland and the filling didn't hold together. 2 rolls for $7 is not worth it. - the red sake roll was inedible. The salmon on top tasted like it had gone bad. For $16, it was a total ripoff. - the shrimp tempura roll was the only thing that turned out okay but not worth $10. - the Tom yum had a lot of shrimp but was flavorless and again, not worth $7 for such a small serving. I cannot recommend this place in good faith. At this price point, I could've gone to Prime Fish and actually had a good meal.

Yelp
Noticed this rather large Asian Fusion restaurant several months ago, and I noticed stellar ratings...so I finally decided to check it out. Initially, I was put off by the Hostess, who wore the mask BELOW her chin (In fact, I noticed that she took the mask off altogether while seating another group of diners)... In fact, I almost thought about walking right back out. However, I noticed that their waiter was wearing a mask, so reluctantly chose to stay. Again, this restaurant is very spacious...set in a lofty building. Unfortunately, they didn't make the most of the space in that their decor was somewhat dull. In fact, I felt that they cut corners with cheap booths and tables, for starters. They really could have made this place look cool, but it's really just a casual joint...nothing more. Given the Covid situation, there was only 1 waiter working, and again, he was wearing a mask...and guess that was the most important thing. Service was a bit weird in that initially he wouldn't even bring me the menu, but wanted me to log online (running short on menu). Anyway, I struggled in finding my way around the online menu, so the waiter brought me the paper menu, and it made a huge difference (included lunch specials, for one)! Then, the water came in a bottle, not in a glass. Again, guess it was a safety thing, but somewhat took away from the dining experience. BTW, I even had to ask for utensils. I ordered Seaweed Salad, with 2 Specialty Rolls, "Red Sake" and "Kamikaze", both very reasonably priced at just $10 each on their lunch menu. Best part of this meal was the Seaweed Salad...it was so plentiful! The presentation of the 2 Specialty Rolls were pretty good (nice sushi plate), but frankly, the sushi didn't taste as good as I had hoped. Tasted somewhat stiff...possibly not as fresh as they could have been?? Shocking to say, but I actually didn't even finish eating all the sushi. Overall, I was disappointed. This place had super-high ratings, so I expected superb sushi or something exceptional. Honestly, everything was justly mediocre. Then, of course, the Hostess and her rude, risky behavior with her mask (minus a star for that alone!) Just not impressed whatsoever...and not sure if it's worth revisiting.

Yelp
My hubby and I sort of stumbled upon lunch at Red Sake in a hungry, desperate haze. The food was pretty good (although the takoyaki was a little burnt). The sushi was fresh and the classic General Tso's chicken + fried rice combo didn't miss. The low score is because of everything except the food. Our server was incredibly standoffish. They were slow. And they charged us +$3 to upgrade from white to fried rice and another $3 to change from crab to salmon in a roll?! The food was good but the overall dining experience completely missed.
google avatar

Linh M.

Yelp
the sushi here is always top quality/fresh and they have really good miso soup! not watered down at all.
google avatar

Brandon S.

Yelp
Some of the best sushi I've had in a while. My wife and I visited here on a Friday afternoon for lunch. We didn't have to wait and we were seated immediately. The place was very nice and clean inside. One of the servers brought us water quickly then our server came over a few minutes later to take our order. We chose 3 sushi rolls (Fire Cracker, Robinson and Sweet Potato) along with an order of Spicy Thai Basil with chicken. Everything came out very fast and was excellent. Great taste along with fresh quality ingredients. We did have to wait for our server early on but towards the end he was much better and very prompt. Would definitely recommend trying this place out for great sushi and great food!
google avatar

Mariana B.

Yelp
Husband and I order TO GO sushi here often, they always package it really well and sushi seems fresh. Typically your order is ready within 15/20 min. Price is a tad salty , but sushi usually tends to be expensive.
google avatar

Bruce S.

Yelp
Red Sake, Robinson Farms -- bad experience. Ordered sushi as we so often do from there. The food was terrible. Didn't taste fresh. Called the restaurant to explain the situation and was told we would get 20% off our next order. Why 20%, because we had some of the food. Really, is that their logic? From the first bite the food was not good but since we ate some of it 20% NEXT TIME was all they would do. Guess we won't get the 20% as we won't be going back. UPDATE: owner called us back and apologized for how her staff acted. We will give them another chance.
google avatar

She M.

Yelp
We were not disappointed with Red Sake. We decided to give this a try today. Their sushi were deliciously made reminding me of traditional sushi in Japan. The fishes were of good quality. We love the bluefin tartare served with delicately fried lotus as chips. We tried variety of rolls and they were all spot on. My favorite is the Amakusa sushi roll. Another family favorites are the Yamagata and Spicy yellowtail. If you are not keen on sushi, thru have great Mongolian beef and Singapore noodles. The ambiance is nice. Service was great. Ample parking daring sunday dinner time.
google avatar

Julie K.

Yelp
This review is not for sushi or roll menu. Lesson learned after ordering Chinese food to go here. I will order sushi or sashimi here next time lol Pineapple rice was bland and fried calamari was salty. The general Tso's chicken and beef chow fun were mediocre.

Jessica H.

Yelp
The pad Thai was so bad. No taste besides gritty noodles. Too expensive for lack of taste. On the bright side, the peanut avocado sushi was delicious!
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
Oh man was this place good. Everything was super fresh and clean. Our server was extremely attentive and helpful. We will be back here for future lunch dates. I highly recommend the pineapple fried rice!
google avatar

Leesa T.

Yelp
Sat at the sushi bar. So much to see. Very nice people and very clean. Ultra it's a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. I got multiple sushi rolls. They were very fresh and hands dow delicious. I wish I could eat there everyday.
google avatar

Lynn C.

Yelp
Very good options for sushi, and traditional Japanese dishes, like stir fry, are available too. Sushi was very fresh and pieces of nigiri were huge! The ahi tuna tacos were excellent. We will be back!
google avatar

Ken J.

Yelp
Been there a few times. We found there was only 1 roll we would order. Service was good. Menu is a bit limited.

Lienlien C.

Yelp
I ordered the veg. Pad Thai , It had noodle and eggs . that was it. Serves was not great.
google avatar

Hania A.

Yelp
You know a place is good when you go back twice in one week since you just can't get enough! Haha. That's what happened here. Can't believe we've been driving by this spot for a while now and are just trying it out. We love it! The fish is so fresh. The sushi roll selection is great. Try the one with Cheetos on top, you won't regret it and will want to sprinkle hot Cheetos all over everything afterwards ;). The hamachi jalapeño is my favorite, but you can't go wrong with any appetizer. We also tried their salt and pepper shrimp as well as chicken Pad Thai - both were excellent!
google avatar

Yelp
First time and never going back! It's clearly stated in the note NO SEASME SEEDS! Suffering from diverticulitis is no joke and I wasted $55 because you didn't read and I had to throw this entire dish out! I won't be back and I don't recommend because they don't read...It was health related and they didn't gaf! So PISSED!
