The Best Camping in Georgia, From Stone Mountain to Savannah

"The biggest draw to Red Top Mountain State Park is Allatoona Lake, a reservoir that spans more than 12,000 acres with plenty of room for water sports, fishing, and swimming, surrounding the large wooded peninsula constituting the park. There, you’ll find 15 miles of trails, including a paved trail suitable for wheelchairs and strollers. Red Top Mountain, once an important mining area, was named for the soil’s rich color caused by high iron-ore content. The lodging options range from yurts to RV and trailer camps to two bedroom cottages."

A very good place to enjoy the weekend swimming, boating, fishing with some history of casting metals and temperature control. Hicking, Kids play area, dog walk, boating and kayaking was good. Fishing is allowed as per inspections on ground. $5 for parking car. The visitor center has restrooms.

Great stay! We camped for 5 days at Red Top Mountain and it was amazing. There are bathrooms throughout the entire campground and private showers. I would not recommend going on the hikes there though because you are guaranteed to get lost.

Love swimming and hiking here. $5 daily parking. They do have a military discount which is only $3.75 parking.

Awesome park. We went when the water levels were high.

Nice spot. I only visited a small part where there is a mini island and people can fish. It’s nice and cozy but did not appear to be well maintained. There were empty and broken bottles laying around. I saw quite a few fishermen but not a lot of fish being caught.

Beautiful park when you want to connect with nature. Very scenic, (you will have all sorts of terrain, paths walkable for most) I have seen deer run by me, there are lake views. It is a really peaceful place. On Saturdays about 10 am the parking area can get congested but I'm always leaving by then. Parking is $5 cash only, you will enjoy your visit

First time there and it was beautiful. Beautiful during the fall especially if you catch it when the leaves change colors. Trails are clear and easy to walk or run and even stroll the little one.

I loved it! You have a few different trails to choose from. All of the trails were very well mapped out. Their bathrooms were impeccably, the structure looked new. They have doggie water fountains right outside the restrooms. Very clean!
