15 Places In Philly To Eat And Drink On South Street - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Destiny’s Child dropping a member. SEPTA accepting phone swipes over tokens. Sometimes, a shake up is welcome. Queen Village’s Redcrest Kitchen switching from experimental cuisine to comfort food is the latest evidence of this. It’s a sandwich-heavy menu with four fried chicken options and a juicy smash burger, but the half fried chicken is a must. The meat is buttermilk brined for 24 hours and then pressure fried, so it’s insanely crispy and perfectly seasoned. After a lifetime of eating fried chicken, biting into this drumstick made us fall in love with it all over again. It comes with two super-sized buttery biscuits and tender collard greens that you won’t want to share. Sit by the windows or at the long bar, and have a casual meal that proves remixes don’t always suck." - candis mclean, alison kessler

13 Restaurants in Philly for Crispy, Crunchy Fried Chicken | Eater Philly

"This beloved restaurant has had many changes, but one thing that’s been consistent is their tasty fried chicken. Their legendary half fried chicken (served with scrumptious buttermilk biscuits and spicy collard greens) is just the beginning of their love for the bird — try their awesome chicken tenders or one of their juicy chicken sandwiches (the “South-By-Southwest” sandwich that comes with pickled jalapeño and charred jalapeño mayo is a stand-out)." - Ernest Owens

Redcrest Kitchen - Review - South Street - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Sometimes experimentation can lead to greatness. After all, a cook who accidentally cut his potatoes too thin gave us chips. Unfortunately, experimentation also gave us the movie version of Cats. Dinner at Redcrest Kitchen has those same highs and lows. To avoid a disaster of unhinged-CGI proportions over dinner, stick to a simple roadmap of cocktails and hearty mains. photo credit: GAB BONGHI Inconsistency isn’t just a menu thing. Depending on when you visit, you may be met with tables of excited friends and couples who crave a lowkey night near South Street, or a boring space that has all the energy of the waiting room at your optometrist’s office. The spacious modern American spot has a long bar, floor-to-ceiling windows that are perfect for watching dogs walk their people, and cushioned booth seating down the middle. Whether you’re listening to music from Masterpiece Classic scenes or your server telling you how much they love Philly, it’s a casual space as laidback as a lazy Sunday. photo credit: GAB BONGHI The menu rotates often (about three new dishes every few weeks) and is packed with produce from local farmers. You can always expect plenty of vegetables, pasta, and shareable mains. When they keep it simple, the meal is excellent. But when the chefs go full mad scientist, one experimental dish can throw the entire meal off. This means that in one sitting you might get a plate so memorable that you’d take loved-up prom pictures with it. But occasionally the onslaught of toppings takes away from how exceptionally the meat or veggie is prepared—like in the case of the tuna crudo, which is topped with dark chocolate for some reason. For a guaranteed successful meal, pass around the short rib, a pasta or two (the uni tagliolini is a standout), and the winter squash toast. photo credit: GAB BONGHI Where Redcrest does find harmony is in the cocktail menu. The Teaches of Peaches is a blend of white peach, rum, chartreuse, and sparkling wine, and is one of the best things we’ve sipped all year. We haven't had one bad drink while dining here, making it one of our favorite new spots for a cocktail in the city. Come for a casual night with friends or a date where the cocktails and comforting mains outshine the Xfinity hold music that’s been playing—and the dish that seems to be made from the basket ingredients on Chopped. Food Rundown photo credit: GAB BONGHI Toast Like the pasta, the bread here is made in-house. And they have it down to a beautiful, fluffy science. Their toast is also something that’s a constant on the menu. The crisp slices are topped with everything from winter squash with a peppery ‘nduja spread to marinated mussels, and we’re considering having t-shirts made stating how much we love them. photo credit: GAB BONGHI Chilled Asparagus With Charred Leeks There’s an impressive amount of vegetables on the menu. If you want to eat light or satisfy a vegetarian in your life, there are plenty of options. There's a lot at play with the textures in this dish, but it’s not a must-try. photo credit: GAB BONGHI Chestnut Agnolotti Although they shuffle the options around quite a bit, a version of this pasta has been on the menu since they opened. The mix of tender lamb, winter squash in doughy pockets of pasta, crunchy hazelnuts, and sour cherry jus is like those Sharknado movies. You really want to like it, but there’s just way too much going on. photo credit: GAB BONGHI Wild Striped Bass Have you ever had a dish so good that you’d consider doing a competitive eating contest just to have as much of it as possible? This, like every fish main at Redcrest, is one of those dishes. Served with wheat berries, creamed brussels sprouts, and pickled plums, each bite is juicy, sweet, and has just the right amount of tart. photo credit: GAB BONGHI Smoked Short Rib If the menu was listed like the Coachella lineup poster, this dish would be in bold and at the top. Ideal for two, the meat is cooked perfectly, has the right amount of smokiness, and comes with sweet potato. Plus, the comté sauce is like a creamy wave of warm and fuzzy comfort that shoots through you with each forkful. Banana Butter Cake If anybody asks you the high and low of your week, your high would be eating this dessert and your low would be having to share it with whomever you bring here. It blends warm banana cake with red miso caramel, banana crémeux, and walnuts. photo credit: GAB BONGHI Fool’s Gold Cocktail There’s not a bad drink on the menu but our go-to is the Fool’s Gold (The Teaches of Peaches is a close second). It’s a mix of reposado tequila, maraschino, and dry sherry. It’s beautifully light, refreshing, and after one sip you’ll think the bartender deserves a statue." - Candis R. McLean

I was heading to another shop actually but then I saw one table enjoyed their chicken. So, I decided to try, why not?? And I’m not disappointed at all! I ordered Phila Wings, buffalo with blue cheese dipping. I enjoyed it very much. The staff were very attentive and friendly. I would definitely come back again!

My new favorite place! My son and I went and all the food was delish! Their service was quick and kind. The ambiance is pretty and chill, perfect on a warm weather day to sit outside or with the windows open. The waiter even said my son’s Shirley temple was on him which was very nice and appreciated. I can’t wait to go back! Oh and they have a great happy hour too!

Google
Everything I ordered was phenomenal. My food came out quickly. All the servers were welcoming and friendly. Too bad I don’t live in Philly, otherwise I’d be here all the time to try everything else they had on the menu!

We tried 2 different kinds of chicken sandwiches for lunch for our first visit. Both were perfectly seasoned and delicious. I appreciated that they offered a salad as an alternative to fries. The chicken was as tasty as we had heard. The restaurant has a relaxed, cozy vibe. The service was welcoming and attentive. They offer a different special every day, with family-friendly options. On a return visit with family, we had the blueberry pancakes. The pancakes are delicious but 1 order would feed 3 people or provide leftovers for a family breakfast.

This place is FANTASTIC!!!! One of our new favorite places to dine in Philly. All the dishes are bright, creative and delicious- the pictures tagged say it all. The chicken liver toast is a must, such a unique take on typical liver toast. Also, the proteins are cooked to perfection every time. The veggie based apps are always so bright and refreshing as well. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for this place as more people discover it!

Google
I absolutely love the food at Red Crest, especially their chicken—it’s incredible! I really want this place to be successful because it has so much potential. However, the last couple of times I’ve been there have left me a bit concerned. During my most recent visit, I unfortunately saw multiple mice running around the restaurant. In fact, there were three of them wandering around, which was just too much to ignore. I brought it to the attention of our server, but the response was less than reassuring. The server barely acknowledged the issue, offering only a quick “sorry” and then walking away without any indication that they were taking steps to address the situation or even get an exterminator involved. It was honestly disappointing because it’s hard to enjoy the meal when something like that is going on in the background. I hate having to leave this review because I genuinely love the food and the vibe of Red Crest, but I really hope they can address this situation and work towards making the environment as good as their food. I want to continue supporting this place, but for now, I’m not sure I’ll be back until I feel confident that these issues have been resolved.

Google
Fun, playful, savory. From the pickled vegetables to the beef Tatar everything was delectable. The pasta dishes were outstanding, unlike anything I’ve ever tried. Their sauces were deep with flavors, but not heavy. A true fine dining experience right off of South Street but without prices to make you cry. Not your traditional Italian joint; just wonderful creative inspired dishes with personality in every bite. Honestly some of the best dishes I have ever tried. The chefs here are true artists and balance delicate flavors with bold highlights without overpowering each other. Come with good company and enjoy great dishes in a cozy atmosphere. (Parking can be tricky - near south street but worth walking a few blocks.)

Google
Super creative food that is so delicious. We tried the tasting menu and it was an absolute feast. One of the best meals I’ve had. Excellent cocktails. Friendly and attentive service. I went with a larger group and the experience couldn’t have been better. Go immediately.

Yelp
I've been to RedCrest twice now, once shortly after they opened, and this week with a very different menu from what it used to be. The current menu is simple and very appealing with many things that looked great. I had the fried chicken platter - which I think is their signature dish - and it was GREAT! Crisp yummy crust encasing juicy delicious tasty chicken. Some of the best fried chicken I've had! Two delicious buttermilk biscuits. The greens were not quite the same level, could have been more greens less soupy (but a minor criticism relative to the positive). And two icy cold beers made this a perfect down-home style meal. What made it even better is that, unbeknownst to me until the check came, the fried chicken is half-price on Tuesdays - so what a bargain! The place is comfortable and lively but not too noisy (mid-week dinner), and service was attentive and responsive. I left before Quizzo started, but planning to come back for that one evening. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Great lunch spot! We stopped here around 1:00 for a later lunch last weekend and were pretty impressed. I wish I took a picture of the decor inside, as you can see in other's reviews it's really trendy and cute inside. There is also plenty of seating and space as opposed to how tight some other city places can get. The staff were very kind and attentive. We tried the chicken and waffles sandwich with the gravy on the side as well as the caesar salad with crispy chicken. The chicken and waffles sandwich was really good, especially dipping into the gravy. The fries were good too. The salad was very fresh and tasty. The only "complaint" would be the crispy chicken in the salad had quite a few fatty-like pieces I had to leave to the side. Everything besides this though was really yum! We agreed to definitely be back to see if this place can reach 5-star level!

Yelp
Finally got to try the blueberry pancakes from Redcrest Kitchen (they came highly recommended) - they are just as delicious as described. Just know you WILL be taking home leftovers - the plate comes with 5 HUGE pancakes. There's no way you can eat it all by yourself in one sitting - You'll have pancakes for 1 maybe 2 more meals. Will definitely return and try some of their other meals!

Yelp
First time trying this spot for a weekend brunch. Food was fine with decent portion sizes. Lots of seating both indoors and outdoors with a relaxed ambiance. All of the food was well seasoned and the chicken sandwich was a table favorite. Service was slightly underwhelming with feelings that we were being rushed.

Yelp
I loved redcrest when it was in East Passyunk so I was very excited to try out the kitchen! A friend and I went for brunch and it was great! My Bloody Mary was seriously delicious (spicy the way I like them!) and we split a bowl of chicken tenders. The chicken is just as good as I remembered. I ordered the blueberry pancakes which bc were so fluffy and also ginormous! The stack has 5 pancakes so I brought home leftovers, but you could also order this plate to share. The rest of the menu looked great CD and I'll definitely be coming back!

Yelp
I've always had a nice, casual but delicious meal here and I appreciated it as a solid neighborhood spot! Chicken is delicious and the sides with dinner dishes are tasty. Brunch is also very good and well done! Full service bar as well. Staff is friendly but the wait for food feels a little long but you can tell they're making things fresh and with care in the kitchen. I like Redcrest!

Yelp
This spot got a nice aesthetic to it as I'm glad they upgraded from the last spot on Passyunk. The good was pretty damn good. Came in here craving fried chicken so I got the OG buttermilk chicken sandwich and it was as good as it was in the old spot. Breading was flavorful and the chicken meat was juicy on the inside. Service was excellent. You know they accommodated kids when u can color on the kids menu and they dont come with just two crayons lol. They got plenty of local beers on tap. Will def come back and try the other things on the menu.

Yelp
Must try the shrimp scampi dumpling and the hot dog. So delicious! Never heard of a shrimp scampi dumpling and it did not disappoint.

Yelp
Pretty disappointed in my most recent visit. We walked in, there were no customers in the restaurant, and we stood at the entrance for quite a while before we were acknowledged by the bartender. Maybe they were having a bad night but we felt rushed and like we were inconveniencing them. The drinks were good. I really hope they figure things out because it's a beautiful space they've built.

Yelp
I was eager to try Redcrest, having been a longtime loyalist to their original fried chicken stand. We chose the brunch menu and ordered the chicken wings, pancakes, and house made sausage. All the food was delicious, plentiful, and worth ordering again. The ambiance and service were superb. Overall, Redcrest Kitchen provided a comprehensive dining experience. The bone-in fried chicken is available on the dinner menu, so I plan to return to try it!

Yelp
Redcrest Kitchen is the Cafe / Diner on 6th St. just a one block south of Philadelphia's famous South St.; In other words, it's right where all of the action is. On this rare rather warm Saturday (short sleeve shirt in Philadelphia in Mid-March-really?) we got a outdoor table for our brunch and basked in the sun. My wife shared a hotdog and Caesar salad with my sons girlfriend, my son also had a Caesar with an order of fries and I had their very good; 2 scrambled eggs A wedge of excellent hash browns Two breakfast sausages And some whole grain toast To say we were all "Happy Campers" with this first rate meal combined with accomplished service would be an understatement. Along with a not too expensive bill, made this trip to the Redcrest Kitchen an outstanding experience.

Yelp
After hearing many people rave about their pancakes, I decided to give them a go. I've always loved their fried chicken ever since they were still a small takeout joint on Passyunk! Their pancakes are really HUGE and difficult to not finish in one sitting. Definitely some legit buttermilk in this and here's the biggest plus: they give you real maple syrup. I am not a big pancake person in general, but this one hits the spot. My daughter and husband loved it too, since I saved half for them. I saw their interior and loved how spacious the restaurant is. Looks kid-friendly and perfect for families. Can't wait to try!

Yelp
Great happy hour. Didn't know there was a food happy hour. When I asked what the happy hour was he only mentioned the drinks but I wasn't there to drink that night. (School night for me) so when we started talking about food he was like oh. Well yes hear are the food discounts when I started my order. So that changed it up for me. And now I forgot what they are as there's no me in for it. Or it's not listed or I didn't a HH menu or they don't have one and it's a secret Ended up getting the smash burger (so good). Fried chicken sammy. 2 orders of wings different flavors. Also super good. The spicy hot vinegar wasn't that spicy after all. And then a ranch sprinkled one. Well I forget the flavors. But they were both great. Dipping sauces great. And the entire wing counts as 1 piece . Not just teeny little pieces. So it was actually more than needed to be ordered. He was right. And a side of fries. And then fries with the burger and I think we ordered two more sides that were discounted and ended up with way too much food. But all delish and leftovers for next day.

Yelp
I had heard quite a few stories about Redcrest and it's history of fried chicken. There had been the first outpost, Redcrest Fried Chicken, which was closed when Redcrest Kitchen opened. It had a reputation of having excellent fried chicken. I'm a fried chicken fanatic and I waited until I saw the fried chicken on the menu. I was walking to Whole Foods to do a little shopping for dinner last week, when I walked by Redcrest. I looked at the menu, saw the fried chicken, and decided to cancel my shopping trip. I went in and ordered the Half Fried Chicken and biscuits. A plate with very large pieces of fried chicken arrived - a breast, thigh, drumstick and wing. As soon as I had the first bite, I realized this was an exceptionally good chicken. When you have that shatteringly crisp crust which is immediately combined with tender, juicy and flavorful chicken, you know it's the real thing. I savored every bite of that entire half chicken, enjoying the delightful differences between the cuts of chicken., The biscuits were average - they tasted fine, but were a little too dense and heavy. I'm looking for a lighter, flakier biscuit with my fried chicken. I asked for regular honey, as they only had a spiced honey. They went above and beyond and sent for a jar of honey, which was essential for my meal. It was a great chicken, I'm still absorbing the fact I live 10 minutes from some of the best fried chicken I've ever had. I'll be back!

Yelp
A very cute kid friendly restaurant in Queen Village. We had quick bite here and tried the chicken sandwich (one buttermilk and one vegetarian-based). Both were so delicious! My picky daughter had a chicken dish as well of chicken fingers and devoured. Will definitely return to try all the other items.

Yelp
Ordered take out tonight for the first time. Place closes at 10 PM. Placed a 9 PM order. Spouse ordered a burger without the special sauce (he does not like cream/mayo based sauces) -- $18. I got the Buttermilk fried chicken sandwich $15. When we got home and opened our food, burger had special sauce on it, chicken sandwich was soggy, no crisp to the chicken at all, also chicken sandwich had no garlic aioli on it as advertised. No one was in the place at 9:40 on a Saturday night. Not sure how they are staying afloat. I guess overcharging for poor quality food.

Yelp
My main dish isn't even here yet and it's already fantastic Interesting food and nice place

Yelp
Wow!! at the suggestion of the waiter ( I asked for recommendations) I ordered the Ahi Tuna club sandwich....it was as advertised...Amazing! a 10 out of 10... drinks and service were great! my friend got biscuits& gravy with eggs and salad...also excellent.!! will definitely go back and highly recommend

Yelp
Our favorite place to get lunch or dinner. The food is always incredible and the service is friendly and quick. My husband is always stopping by for a hot dog.

Yelp
First time here. Had brunch. Sausage gravy on biscuits with 2 fried eggs. It was good. I would have it again. Menu looked interesting will have to come back for more.

Yelp
We were excited to try Redcrest Kitchen after it's opening was delayed to a water main break. We were able to visit just a few days after they opened. The location is much larger than their original location. The menu differs from their other location, there are no fried chicken sandwiches. Rather you will find a small curated menu of 14 options spread out in 4 categories: vegetables, plates to share, meat & fish, and dessert. There was no chicken on the menu. There is also an extensive drink option menu. Many dietary restrictions can be accommodated. The server was very friendly and explained that everything was made to order and modifications could be made to almost any dish. Accidentally he told us the entire left side of the menu was vegetarian although there was a mussels dish listed. Small hiccup and understandable due to the 2 day old opening. One of the dishes was salty but still delicious (ricotta cavatelli). The main thing that stood out was the portions seemed small for the price. The pasta was $26 for a smallish portion. Overall a good experience. The staff is very friendly, and food came fast. Both the manager and wait staff checked up on us. Knocking one star due to prices seeming high for what you get portion wise. Things to know: - reservations available on Resy - there is a bar area with tvs to watch sports events - no Wi-Fi (as of now) - contactless pay option through toast - parking may be hard

Yelp
If you're crestfallen about Redcrest Fried Chicken closing, get reddy for a whole new experience (or just come get the chicken for takeout or at the bar). I can't stop thinking about my dinner here the other night. Everything was so interesting and inventive, but also extremely delicious! The space is beautiful and big! Dimly lit, cool booth bird art, swanky bar. Service was excellent! I asked to pack up leftovers and she thought we both wanted a to go bag and she carefully cut a tiny beignet in half, placed sauce and liver mousse in tiny containers. The attention to detail was very thoughtful. Ok but the food! I love looking at a menu and not knowing what something will taste like and being surprised. Was really pleasantly surprised that the portions were so big! Definitely recommend sharing. - The chicken liver mousse toast is a reinvented PB&J and delightful- crunchy macadamia nuts, pickled sour cherries- awesome flavor and texture combination -The uni pasta was our favorite- so rich with clams and mushrooms, but a little bit of a spicy kick -Also enjoyed the squid ink pasta which was basically like large dumplings and had octopus and a really interesting ragout -Absolutely LOVED the duck 4 ways- the breast was cooked perfectly and sauce was incredible, the offal sausage reminded me of some of the Cambodian sausages you can get at FDR Park, this is a pretty adventurous bite so may not be for everyone, we ended up having the duck fat beignets with duck liver for dessert because we were too full for real dessert -I had the paloma cocktail which was delicious and they have a short wine and beer list Highly recommend going here if you love trying new food in creative ways in beautiful spaces. Don't bring a picky friend here they will probably struggle- or maybe just order them the chicken to go!

Yelp
Very good food, prices reasonable for the city, not great. Probably would have given 5 stars except I did not receive the discount price on a web-advertised daily special, AND when I wrote to them regarding this oversight, I was simply ignored. So, over all a good but not great experience, but I won't likely go back. My request was straightforward, politely expressed, and just, and I don't appreciate that sort of thing being just ignored.
google avatar

Yelp
First off, amazing chicken. Of course. But the wings are awesome. The popcorn chicken is awesome. The RANCH IS AMAZING. Trivia on Tuesdays is also so much fun. Wonderful staff.
google avatar

Jack M.

Yelp
Fried Chicken was fantastic! Popcorn chicken was juicy and a massive portion! Great atmosphere and service.

Nin H.

Yelp
After ordering here quite a number of times, I'm super disappointed to get one tiny little piece of fish broken in half for $16.00 (not counting fries). Food is tasty, but I feel completely robbed.
google avatar

Tom L.

Yelp
Best fried chicken in the city hands down. Comfortable dine in, and easy take out. I go through withdrawal if I don't get some for too long.
google avatar

Yvette J.

Yelp
Beautiful airy space with a simplistic yet chic design. Food meshes Jewish and AA heritage to create New American Cuisine. Standout dishes were the curry mussels, winter squash toast, and lamb belly. The lamb so super tender and boasted so many flavors! The mussels were sweet and savory and the toast was an interesting combination of flavors that melded together perfectly. The cocktail menu was a little short and uninspired but the bartenders were very talented and can make just about any off menu cocktail you request. Servers were a little shy but attentive and helpful. Overall I would give this place an 8.5/10. It's much too nice of a restaurant for South St but hopefully it'll inspire the area to class up a bit.

James G.

Yelp
Great brunch! I love that you can get eggs until like 4 plus their classic friend chicken too. If you haven't had their friend chicken yet drop what you are doing and go! It's a great little place that's laid back enough to do walk ins but still has delicious food. Good place!
google avatar

Brian J.

Yelp
Not what they use to be. When they were on passyunk ave in the small space the food felt like it had more love. Now that they're in this pricey bigger location. The food isn't as good as it once was. And they make a lot of goofy sh*t like duck fat live with blood sauce! What???! Of the F'k wants to eat that. You guys had a format, you did it good and it worked. This new place should have been an entire different restaurant and you guys should have kept the small spot with good fried chicken and biscuits. Well, it was good while it lasted, nothing lasts forever especially in this tragic city.
google avatar

Ed S.

Yelp
Amazing. Weren't sure what to expect but we heard great things and we weren't disappointed. Super friendly staff. We ordered quite a bit of food including a couple things from the bar menu. Matzoh ball soup with schmaltz butter toast, the chestnut agnolotti, beef tartar, the pastrami style short rib, rye spaetzle, Comte spuma fuggedaboutit . Even something like the chicory and apple salad, kinda ubiquitous on a winter menu, was perfect. Great room with a family friendly neighborhood vibe. You can't go wrong with anything. Oh yeah the lime curd and almond cake? Killer. We had the bar chicken sandwiches for breakfast the next day.

Mariann C.

Yelp
Why is this place not packed! Amazing drinks perfect chicken and yum to the tomato burrata app. Oh and the hotdogs! Just try it - trust me don't walk by it's a local gem not yet discover.

Yelp
Very good fried chicken. The greens were also delicious. Biscuits were ok but nothing special. We also had popcorn chicken and fries. Everything was solid and would come back again

Yelp
Cool environment and vibe. Loved the new age dinner look. They quickly got us in and seated. Our server did a great job keeping us well hydrated and the food came out pretty quick. These guys do chicken and chicken sandwiches right, they even have the simulate patty for vegan and plant based folks!

Yelp
We just enjoyed the nicest meal at Redcrest. They've gone through a series of recalibrations and I think they've hit a sweet spot: thoughtful, creative food at an affordable price point. It was still happy hour, so we ordered beautiful, sweet PEI oysters. Then a a white asparagus salad with lemon aioli and pistachio pesto. Although the pistachio's were barely present, the whole salad was far more than asparagus: festooned with watermelon radishes covered in pretty green ( I think pistachio) dust. Turnips and grapefruit. I nearly licked the plate. Happily, they were serving fried chicken! The portion was HUGE! A serious half chicken with the most delicious corn cake and collards that somehow were infused with the flavor of beans. Maybe the best collards I've had. I had the tagliolini with clams and mushrooms. Tender homemade pasta, kind of like linguini. Both delicate and decadent at the same time. The server- who was lovely helped me pair it with a perfect vertliner. We will absolutely be back.

Yelp
Great spot, great ambiance, great food, and great service. The cocktails are delicious and the food is great. My friend got the wings and I got the pasta. Both were great. We came in close to close and sat at the bar and the service was more than hospitable. Want to go back for their brunch! They also have lots of outdoor seating and you can sit outside with your dog!

Yelp
Redcrest serves a stellar southern fried chicken dinner, completed with collard greens and biscuits. My husband is a southern fella and he knows good fried chicken dinners and this one is rated as excellent. It is hard to find a good fried chicken in this city. We loved Jones and Bar Poulet for their chicken but they are both closed. We despaired of finding another great fried chicken. We have tried many places, only to be greatly disappointed, until we found Redcrest. It is located in the Queen Village area where Barrel House was previously located. The restaurant is nicely decorated and the service is excellent. The rest of the menu is probably also well above average, but after trying the fried chicken, I'm afraid we won't want anything else. It is worth more than the five stars allowed!

Yelp
Just had dinner at Redcrest. Good drink menu, with several good different beers and other wine/cocktail options. We had the Wagyu Tartare for an appetizer, which was delicious, which came with a few freshly baked very soft rolls. For entrees we had the Mortadella Cappelletti and the Red Snapper and Pork Cheek. The pasta was delicious, seasoned perfectly, with a nice balance of flavors, not overpowering the Mortadella. The Red Snapper and Pork Cheek was a surprisingly delicious combo of flavors. All in all, excellent food and the service was great!!! Will have to come back for their famous fried chicken.

Yelp
We had such a wonderful meal here last month so it is sad to hear that they are changing their menu/food service but I had to come and review anyways! The restaurant is huge and has lots of space. Would be great for a large group even. We started with the crab toast, carrots, and white asparagus. All three dishes were delicious and I loved how the vegetable dishes were just topped with tons of garnish and herbs. The foie gras was maybe one of my favorites. Very creamy and topped with a nice jam that balanced out the richness of the foie gras itself. Loved the little biscuits that came with the dish! And then for our mains we had the softshell crab, tagliatelle pasta (with uni I believe?) and another pasta. The tagliatelle was definitely my favorite main dish. We tried two of the desserts and I liked the blood orange curd over the other. Overall had a wonderful meal that felt new and fresh. Looking forward to seeing what is in store for them next!

Yelp
I enjoyed Redcrest Kitchen. We went at happy hour. Service was decent and was the food. I'd probably go again but I wasn't wowed by the place. It's a local place so I was glad to see it get busy later in the evening.

Yelp
Love their chicken sandwiches and burgers, however I'm not a fan of their chicken wings or maybe I'm just used to the traditional way of having them. These guys are enormous. Drinks are tasty, service is great. Bar has a nice vibe. Worth checking out!

Yelp
I've been waiting forever for this place to open and I'm so happy they finally did! Redcrest Kitchen is the perfect date night, family night, or group dinner location. The decor is modern and welcoming, the staff is super friendly, and the FOOD. Just try everything on the menu, you won't regret it. Highlights: draft cocktails , turnip cacio Pepe, winter squash toast , chicory and apple salad, porchetta, chestnut agnolotti. You can't go wrong with any of these dishes. Portions are medium sized, so easy to share! The entrees are large and filling. I was a huge Redcrest chicken fan, so I'm happy to see the owners/chef expand and really show their culinary talents. Please add your chicken to the menu!! I'll be back

Yelp
I went to brunch with a friend here last week and everything was delicious! I had the poached pear salad and he ordered the biscuits and gravy. We also had the chicken liver mousse which was amazing with the corn cake it's served with. Our server was lovely and attentive, and the service was quick. We also were visited by the manager or shift lead who was also very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. The vibrant upholstery of the booths, paint colors, and the open kitchen inside Redcrest were really a nice touch to the space! Definitely would recommend and visit again if I'm back in the area. :)

Yelp
Service & drinks were great. Unfortunately, the food was not. With such a small menu you'd think the dishes would be delicious. Nothing we ate was good. I've heard great things about their chicken! Unfortunately it's just for take out

Yelp
I was super impressed by the food here and I can't wait to come back. Each dish is carefully curated by Chef Evan. He has a "hyper seasonal" menu that sources local fresh ingredients and changes weekly. The food here is incredibly tasty, large portions, and plated perfectly. The "GNOCCHI PARISIENNE" wow, this pasta dish will rival any of the top Italian places in Philly. The cocktails are also seasonal and amazing, may I recommend the "Teaches of Peaches." Service was exceptional, I highly recommend you make reservations here ASAP.

Yelp
Do you ever find yourself forgetting to take pictures of your food because you're so excited to eat it? That's happened multiple times now at Redcrest Kitchen. Everything sampler from their unique, evolving menu has been delicious. The wagyu tartare, the blistered shishitos, and the short ribs are among the top standouts. The staff was very friendly, attentive, and accommodating. The atmosphere makes a nice spot for a date night. Very excited for them to have this location in addition to re-opening Redcrest Fried Chicken.

Yelp
One of the best meals I've had in my 4 years of living in Philly. I've been to every big name restaurant in the city and just about every hole in the wall. Get reservations here while they're easy to come by, not sure reservations will be this accessible for much longer. This place is gunna be the next big thing.

Yelp
Outstanding family option in Queen Village. My kids loved the fried chicken tenders with fries. All the food we had was excellent, crudo, fennel salad, a glorious chestnut agnolotti and the game hen with black garlic. Nice beer and wine selection. Tip: balance out your order in terms of richness. One portion of chicken & fries was enough for our kids 4&6.
